I tried so many places to get my suitcase wheel repaired but no one would touch it. I finally called Mike's Shoe Repair in New Haven. The gentleman there said he would take a look at it but was not promising anything. I took it in and he said leave it with me for a few days and I will see if I can find something. I went back this week. He had fixed it for a very reasonable cost. I was delighted and amazed. They are definitely old school and their business reminds me of shoe repairers I grew up going to. Came here for a tap shoe repair for a friend. The owner is a character for sure. I will say the f bombs that were dropped may have been amusing at first, but after a few sentences, it got old. The work was good. Language, not so much. Paid cash, reasonable repair cost and good time frame. Just, maybe, leave the kids at home - just in case. read more

Mike is an interesting character. At first it is entertaining but quickly gets old. He drops F bombs gratuitously and doesn't wear a mask. Not professional at all. The store smells strongly of smoke and seems very disorganized. My wife dropped off three pairs of shoes- one men's high top dress shoes, and two pairs of women's boots. He wouldn't say how much it would cost despite asking multiple times. He ended up charging $35 to repair the soles of three shoes and polishing, which seemed reasonable. I only realized once getting home that one of the boots wasn't even touched! Would not recommend this place at all. The entire experience felt pretty uncomfortable and the work wasn't worth the headache. read more

Very poor quality work very unprofessional makes it his business to cuss around customers had my Chanel luggage and my Louis Vuitton bag for 2 years never did the work I finally pick my items up today and he was still asking me what color I wanted to die the straps I told him don't worry about it and he still being flippant and said "I don't worry about anything" a total failure and very unprofessional the only reason why he stays in business is because he owns the building but I'm sure that OSHA would have closed him down if he was reported because the entire place is disgusting and nasty you're going to leave smelling like cigarette smoke trust me read more

Dropped into this spot since I'm in dire need of a local cobbler. Wow. First impressions were awesome... from a character standpoint. As the average joe walking in off the street, you might be a bit at a loss for words. But good customers are anything but average! This guy knows his sh!t. Brought in my Alden cordovan wingtips - quite an expensive pair of shoes. He immediately rattled off the history, anatomy, and construct of the shoe. And he was spot on in each regard. I just got them back with upgraded slightly lugged soles, which were an an improvement on the factory soles. Fully restored, and ready to be my go to formal shoes again! He fixed a leather strap for me, well not for me, but for my boyfriend eventually. He told me to return in a week. I did and he said "he'll get to it." I returned two more times with in the month with no luck. Finally, I asked my partner to pick it up. The first time Mike was busy but the second time it was fixed while HE waited. I drive by this place all the time and had a friend rave about it so when I wore a hole through my boots I thought I'd give them a shot. I appreciate him telling me he couldn't replace the sole to look and function like it should because the color was rare. BUT, even if he could have, I wouldn't have left my shoes with him. The place was FULL of cigarette smoke. He was actually actively smoking with a lit cigarette resting in an ash tray and all windows closed. I'm sure he's done that every day he's been in business so you can imagine just how overwhelming the smoke smell is. I was only standing inside for a couple minutes and had to drive back home to change clothes and wash my hair it was so bad. read more

My mom had a pair of shoes destroyed by him. She paid $25, and only took a few steps before the shoe broke. I'm glad she didn't get hurt. My coworker also had a pair of her favorite shoe ruined there. She said it looked like he glued on some concrete, had it cut by a 5-yr-old, and there was visible glue everywhere. I only needed the rubber sole to be re-attached to the steel toe, but Mike also polished them, buffed any scratched areas out, and cleaned up the pleather trim.
