Proper nourishment (and remedy) for a night of song and drinks in Killarney! Open later than most food spots.

Food/Cost: (3.5) My traveling companion came here for a late snack at 10:30pm after our prior, early dinner. We got one order of the Fish n Chips (7.40 euros) to share. After ordering, we watched as the staff pulled out the fish from the freezer to deep fry; the fries came directly out of the plastic bag and was dropped into the deep fryer as well. The result was some good fries, and decent fish. Interestingly, the fish and chips here tasted exactly like the Fish n Chips I got for a much higher price at Mac's, which is a classier looking restaurant nearby -- perhaps they use the same frozen brand... If you are looking for some cheap[er] fried foods or other unhealthy eats, this is your place! Ambiance: (2) Mike's Take Away is a tiny joint, with a tiny counter that runs along its right wall with about 4 stools for seating. The interior is a bit on the dingy/dirty side and there is no semblance of decor. Location: (5) Location right off of and leading to the main street in Killarney, Mike's is located in the midst of shops, hotels, pubs, and more pubs. An easy walk from anything. Service: (3) The staff were courteous enough to wait patiently while my friend and I hesitated over our order choices and began cooking our order right after we ordered it (it helped that we were the only ones ordering at that time). Overall: (3) I imagine this place does very well with all the pubs around -- revelers will be craving some savory bites after a hard night of drinking. Fantastic hole in the wall. It was the best fish and chips we had in all of Ireland. Who would have known? The fish was huge, flavorful, and crispy. The chips were also fried perfectly with a nice crunch. The lady working there was very friendly and made good conversation. I really wish we had a place like this close to home! Terrible chipper. €4 for a large chip, I was told it would be enough for 2 people. It wasn't even enough for 1 person. Ignorant blonde woman in her late 40's working behind aswell.
