Milagro is accurately named-- a miracle! I was on a small business sprawl in Hampden and stumbled across this store over the Thanksgiving holiday. This store contains so many charming items, from earrings to apparel to stationery, etc! My mom and I popped into this store and I couldn't get enough. The staff members were really welcoming and helpful. Milagro promotes contactless payment (e.g. ApplePay). Everyone in the store was appropriately masked up as well, which allows the browsing experience to be that much more enjoyable. I ended up getting two adorable, perfectly-sized mugs. What a beautiful little shop! I've never been to Milagro before, but in a desperate hunt for holiday gifts, I found myself stopping into practically every shop on the Avenue, including Milagro. I'm so glad that I did! Milagro is an eclectic shop that has something for everyone and every price point. They sell clothing, stationary, incense, jewelry, home goods and more. The overall vibe is earthy and free spirited. There are a lot of sustainable/fair trade products made with recycled and/or natural materials, which can mean a higher price point, but I thought the prices were reasonable considering the value and materials involved. I ended up purchasing some holiday decorations and cards during my visit, but plan to come back to look through the clothing and houseware selection again. What really stood out to me during my visit though was the service. The duo working today were an absolute joy! So friendly and welcoming despite the rain and gloomy day, they were laughing and engaging with customers like it was the best day ever. I love seeing people that seem genuinely happy in their jobs. It was clear that they believe in the vision of the store, and they created such a warm and joyful energy that they now definitely have a returning customer in me! Cutest little store on the main stretch of 36th. I only found it by accident waiting for my husband to meet me for dinner. As soon as I walked in, I was getting all the Frida vibes. Very Mexican, southwestern-y decor. Put all that aside, and you can ooh and ahh over the VERY nice sterling silver jewelry Tanya (sp?), the owner, carries in not one but two cases. One on each side of the store. And then random jewelry in different parts of the store too. A small but nice selection of clothing and candles. Really cute stuff. Traveling through Baltimore on our 21 day road trip: Team Jammie World Tour 2009, I stopped in Hampden to visit Milagro ESPECIALLY, because I'm honored to know the owner, one Ms. Kimry Perrone. I had heard a lot about the store, but not really known what to expect...and I can tell you honestly: Everything that is sold here is what I want! Bento kits from Japan, artwork from local artists, handmade jewelry, recycled object housewares (bought a waste basket made from old olive oil cans), Dia de los Muertos--everything...Kimry goes to great lengths to stock the store with interesting, colorful, and useful things that she sources from all over the globe. Most things I found in the store, I had never seen anywhere before. One item was so nice, I had to buy it twice--cute papel picado cut with words like 'love' and images of doves. It made a thoughtful, light, and cheap gift for two different engaged couples I visited later in my travels. Since I live in Austin, I wish I could buy stuff from Milagro all the time, especially for the holidays! With 'gifting' in mind, let me address the other reviewer's tiny criticism of the store--costliness. First and foremost, I'll observe that I thought that items were fairly priced for the effort it takes to get them there. In fact, I was surprised at the array of items that were under $10. There's really something for every price point. Also, let's keep in mind that this is an independent store--a small business owned by a woman. In fact, I would have bought a whole lot more if I had had ANY more room in my car that was stuffed to the gills for our 3 week road trip! Now on to the ol' lady ranting part of this review: Everyone who knows me has heard me say that everything should either cost $1, $25, or $100. And that includes mortgage payments, and engagement rings! However, my 'old man-like' stinginess MUST step aside when it comes to locally owned establishments.My father always used to say about the little grocery store where I grew up, 'you have to buy from stores you like, if you want them to be there when you need them.' So, with that in mind, I encourage my broke or stingy brethren to learn that we have get it out of our heads that wonderful things should also be cheap. Though it can be thrilling to find low cost design at big box stores or tag sales, let's budget for those purchases we must make to keep our small, community stores alive. I borrowed a strategy from a friend of mine to work towards this gift budget goal: don't buy a gift for everyone at Christmas or Hannukah, but instead find something REALLY nice for them on their birthdays. Of course there are other budget conscious gifting strategies, but the point I'm trying to make is: we vote with our money. The world will become as we fund it. Apparently this store has been around for 10 years. I lived in Hampden then moved to California and had never stopped in but I did the other day when getting my nails done at QQ next door. The shop has many Hispanic influenced items and lots of organic cotton and movable yoga wear dresses and such. I wasn't really going to buy anything but spotted a precious bib and socks for my friend's newborn. The size wasn't right and that was all they had in stock so I opted for a bib rather than a onesie and a 3 pack of socks. The items are made in a windmill powered factory apparently. I would go back for thoughtful, gift specific items in the future. read more

Milagro is a wonderful store with many beautiful goods! It is a unique experience in Baltimore, and a fantastic addition to the avenue in Hampden. I have gotten so many gifts there, as well as presents for myself. There are several awesome jewelry lines, including many made by the owner. The clothing is adorable, especially the Synergy line, which includes dresses made with organic cotton and sweet appliqués, like birds and acorns. The clothing is comfortable, as well as cute and flattering! The home decor goods are really interesting, and from companies that are green and not exploitative. There are presents for all price ranges, so you can come away with lots of cute stuff for not a lot of money. The staff are all helpful and knowledgeable, but not in an annoying in your face way. I got Christmas presents for almost everyone on my list there last year, and I will definitely be back for holiday shopping this year. read more

I have been going to Milagro for years, and it just keeps getting better and better. I used to go in to buy all my hostess and holiday gifts, and since they started carrying more clothing I find myself waiting each season to find out what amazing dresses and skirts they'll have for me to wear. My favorite part, though, is always the jewelry. My favorite pieces in my closet and the ones that earn me the most compliments are the ones I got from Milagro, particulary a piece hand made by the owner. You can buy handmade art jewelry here. I'm obsessed with jewelry, so I know what this place offers is very unique and special. On my recent trip I bought two Christian inspired earrings--one made by a local artist, the other by a California artist, and a gift for my friend--Buddha earrings from India. I spent around $65. They have some pricier pieces starting at $100 that are made by a local artist. They also sell clothing--t shirts and dresses. FYI: I went on a Sunday, and parking was free. read more

You can't miss Milagro. It's brightly painted exterior and store name makes you think you've stumbled upon a little piece of Mexico or the Southwest. It reminds me of a store I visited while in Arizona. It's really great to have unique items from around the globe right in Baltimore. What will you find inside? The core of the store is Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) figurines, milagros (little symbols for blessings) and Mexican inspired clothing and jewelry. The store changes the other products like dresses/apparel, bags/wallets and accessories. Recently, they started to carry this interesting line of accessories with a "penguin on a chicken" logo. Kristen H is right on about Milagro. My wife loves this place but once had an "Oprah moment" here when she entered at closing time (she did not know this) and was firmly but politely told to leave. But, despite this, she came back and recognized that her lack of time-sense was the culprit. Milagro rocks. It's a great part of the Hampden Renaissance and contains many hidden treasures. Screw the Inner Harbor, Yelpers! Come instead to the Avenue, to Fell's Point, or to Mount Vernon, where things look and feel more like the West Coast. You get what you pay for here! This is a great place to buy a gift for eclectic tastes. The owner is friendly and very helpful. I was here about two or three summers ago, The owner had a gorgeous sundress on I asked her where she got it, she said she sold them and she had one left. Lucky for me It happened to be just my size! This place is a gem for finding great gifts for my girlfriends. Recently, I bought a pair of earrings for my mom and a necklace for my friend in NYC. When you go into boutiques, the prices tend to be high. The necklace I bought was $17, but it was a great statement piece! Long gold chain to just below the breast bone with a triangle wrapped in gold wire. I almost didn't send it to her! My mom's earrings were $12 - two tiny flowers in an off white color. The last pair! I always find something cute under $20 to spend on family or a friend. I mail my gifts since everyone is up in Philly and NYC. I love this boutique for it's Latin American feel and creative handmade jewelry designs, trinkets, candles, scarves, etc. It's a little pricey, but great for the occasional gift for yourself or someone else, and also just a fun place to browse when walking along the Avenue. I frantically went from shop to shop last Christmas searching for last-minute gifts and ended up buying them all at Milagro. I have hit 2 home runs here previously. I bought gifts for 2 different occasions that were greatly appreciated by the recipients. Soooo, when I went in today, I had my hand in my pocket ready to buy something as a Mother's Day gift. Alas, unlike other visits, I was not met with a friendly greeting. To be fair, there were a few other people there when I got there. However, when I went to ask a pricing question (after the others left), I wasn't greeted pleasantly. Not that big a deal I guess, but the contrast with my previous 2 visits was stark. Her attitude (in my perception) bordered on contempt. Though frustrated, I was rationalizing to myself that I should still patronize this local business, especially based on my 2 previous positive experiences. What put my wallet back in my pocket and my gift choice back on the shelf was the next interchange. I asked if they offered gift wrapping. The response I got was "you'll have to ask the owner." I'm thinking to myself, "okaaay, how do I do that?" If I were still executive coaching, I would urge the owner of this store to insist on a more customer-centric response. For example, "Gee, I'm new and do not know the answer to that question. But let me contact the owner for you as soon as I can and determine if we can help you with that. If we don't offer that service, I'll see if she knows somewhere close by that sells wrapping paper." Since I'm retired, I'll waive my normal $350/hr. (minimum 1 hour) fee for this tidbit. I doubt I'll be going back in. Unfortunate way to lose a customer. But there are too many other alternatives vs. going somewhere where you don't feel welcome. read more

I had to restrain myself in here! I stopped in to search for a birthday present for a dear friend, and I'm so glad I did! Now, the clothing in here wasn't really my style, but they have a lot of cool jewelry, soaps & lotions, art, and a LOT of Mexican folk art which I LOVE. The salesgirl greeted me as soon as I came in and was really helpful. Everytime I'm in the neighborhood I stop by Milagros, but very rarely do I buy anything - I think it's a little overpriced for the merchandise. It has a lot of imported Mexican items which are really cool, plenty of Day of the Dead stuff, and some local art as well.
