Pooh, Marie (Pooh's sister), Pooh's father and I came here for supper, last night…read more The ambiance was busy and noisy. Maybe it was just that night but I wouldn't go back for a romantic dinner. We started with drinks. Pooh's dad (Andre) and I had Bloody Caesars, Pooh had a beer and Marie a house cocktail. The cocktail was too floral. Our Caesars were great. For appetizers Marie and Pooh had mussels, Andre, a Caesar salad and I had the French Onion soup. Andre's salad was a good size; Pooh and Marie enjoyed their mussels and my soup was very tasty Before the appetizers arrived a panier of warm bread and buns with a delicious olive oil and parmesan cheese sauce was brought to the table We ordered the Table D'hôte. Marie, Pooh and Andre had the fillet mignon and I had the bavette (flank steak). The cook on the steaks varied. Pooh and I ordered medium-rare; Marie ordered medium and Andre ordered medium-well. Pooh's steak was medium and my steak was medium-rare at the thinner end and very rare (almost blue) at the thicker end. Pooh, Marie and Andre had a baked potato without any butter and I had french fries. We shared two bottles of Italian red wine which was an excellent choice for the steaks. For dessert we had the brownie with ice cream. The brownie was dry - we needed the ice cream to help get it down. Pooh, Andre and I had a Brazilian coffee to wash everything down. Marie was driving. The service was excellent. Our server Édouard was very attentive; always checking on us. He was pleasant and had a friendly smile. Our glasses of water were always filled without us asking. The bathroom was unisex.

Although the menu was dated as was its execution and that the restaurant lacked finesse - I resisted the urge to go into the kitchen to show them how to do a tomato sauce and baked beans for a hearty and delicious breakfast - no one can claim that the quality of service is anything less than excellent, as is the rest of the hotel service. To prevent me from having to climb a slope with my cane, the hotel manager gave us a more spacious cabin and more beautiful even without altering the agreement. In addition , the 80s retro decor was unimportant when we consider the impeccable cleanliness - no dust or stain anywhere - without forgetting the windowed wall in the cottage which had a gorgeous view of the lake and lying sun while sitting by the fire hearth . It should be mentioned the canary calm and quiet at this resort, we were so relaxed we thought we were getting ill. For the value versus expense, even with the kitchen being a bit outdated, the customer is the winner. I would recommend the place without hesitation.

Spectacular spot!…read more Very cozy inside, dimly lit with little lights at each table. Stone walls, oil paintings and antique decor. All the plates are different and unique from each other. We ordered the Paloma mocktail which was extra tasty. Starters were the brioche bread that was baked with a crispy top and the herb butter paired very nice. We also got the asparagus and scallops. I was thinking it would be the whole scallop, but it was cut into little pieces and put on top of the asparagus. For the entrees we got the filet and another steak I can't remember the name?? The filet was cooked to absolute perfection, crispy on the inside and so tender and soft on the inside. We got one of each of the sauces as well as the sides. The butter sauce was my favorite. The asparagus came with such an earthy sauce it was a flavor bomb in your mouth. Service is great, only thing is the server forgot about my Diet Coke for 15 minutes but no worries on that. Very cozy date night spot! Loved everything about it.

I'm not exactly sure how Barroco landed on my radar; I was taking Montreal recommendations from…read moremultiple outlets, and when I was organizing them it caught my eye as a potential place to grab dinner. Pics and reviews looked great, so we made plans to dine here during our penultimate night in the city. Barroco is located in Old Montreal, right on Rue Saint-Paul. The exterior has really charming curb appeal, and upon entry we were greeted by the same. This isn't a large restaurant, arranged with tables and a few booths throughout the space and a bar on the back wall that serves as a focal point. The vibes were on - the restaurant was tastefully decorated with a mix of old-fashioned fixtures, stone walls, and earth tones. The restaurant was quite lively - the vibes were on. Their drink menu is quite creative; we actually started our evening at the bar while we were waiting for our table and the bartender made some great suggestions - both cocktails I had were really good. The food menu is mostly French inspired; it wasn't extensive but they had a good variety of creative dishes. We decided on two starters - the brioche and the octopus salad. The brioche was fine, it came as one roll with a side of seasoned butter. It was a little on the dry side, and the butter wasn't very flavorful. The octopus salad was much better; the octopus was sliced and arranged on top of a ratatouille which provided a good complement of flavors and textures. For my main I got the OG braised beef. The beef was almost pot-roast style, seasoned with maple and aged balsamic sauce and paired with truffled celery root purée. This was delicious - the beef was super tender, and the sauce provided great flavor. The puree was an awesome side - the entire trip was super comforting and familiar while also being new and interesting. We decided to get two desserts - the madeleines and the olive oil cake. The former were baked fresh and came with a side of chocolate pudding and salted caramel, while the latter came with whipped cream and coached pears. Both were good, but I preferred the madeleines; the warm sponge paired with the chocolate and caramel was a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everyone from the host to the bartender to our waiter made us feel welcome; they definitely elevated the experience. Overall, I had a great time at Barroco; the food, vibes, and service were all on point. I would definitely consider returning the next time I'm in Montreal.

Pooh ordered the filet mignon and I ordered the ribs and chicken. The filet was cooked just the way Pooh likes it - medium rare. The fries and veggies were also fabulous. My ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and personally the star was the chicken. I opted for the chicken tenders and the batter was amazing: light and crispy not greasy at all. My fries were also great and the dijonnaise was very tasty All in all a great time!!

Since it was Lobster season, we decided to each have one of thier lobster lunch specials. I had the Lonster sandwich and my client had the Lobster ravioli with Lobster bisck sauce We also had an appetizer of calamari. The entree arrived and the calamari was soggy, yet hot. So it felt like the oil was not hot enough. But the calamari itself was tasty and tender. So it seems like it was just badly executed. Then our main meals arrived. The lobster in my sandwich was shredded and had a pinkish colour. It had a slightly pasty texture. It also did not look like the image that showed large chunks of lobster. My client tasted his ravioli and said it tasted off. When checking the filling it was pink also. I'm just guessing, but it almost looks like they cut the filling with salmon. That would explain the colour and fishy / salmone taste both our dishes have. We mentionned it to our server, but she is convinced that it is pure lobster. My client worked in restaurant kitchens for years, and I have a pretty good palette. We were not going to argue with the server, but we do not feel like we got what we paid for. To bad, I used to like Baton Rouge.
