It is the best school ever! I love it! It is the best!!!!!!!!!! They have the best teachers

Not to be dramatic, but this school has changed our lives! We have had the best experience at MACS! My daughter started kindergarten in the fall, and she has truly transformed during her time at the school so far. She comes home every day and tells me what she is learning in class and what her favorite activities are (she loves the indoor playground with the rock climbing wall the best). Ms. Thomas and Ms. Sanchez are WONDERFUL homeroom teachers! The Expedition teachers (Social Studies, PE, Coding, Science) are also all so wonderful! I love that the school focuses on emotional intelligence as well as traditional studies, plus a heavy dose of STEM-focused learning. Watching my daughter interact with the other scholars in her class is remarkable. I have NEVER seen 5-6yo kids work together in such a seamless, cohesive way, and it really speaks to how the schools teaches them to be a supportive team. I think there are MANY MANY MANY benefits of this sort of education that focuses on 21st century skills AND emotional growth is the future, and I don't think you'll find anywhere that gets it right quite like MACS! There have been a FEW (very few) occasions where the school has had to cancel aftercare suddenly or change plans in some way, but they are extremely good at communicating these changes. Please remember that this is a new, grassroots school that is community based and community supported. Smaller/newer schools are navigating different challenges than established public schools, so give them some grace as they work through these challenges. These unexpected changes are simply just VERY OCCASIONAL "growing pains" since it is such a new organization, but we have not experienced anything drastic or anything that has made us question the school's ability to give our child the best educational experience. If anything, I feel like they communicate changes so well and create a sense that we are all a big team and work together for all of the children. I love that they encourage families to be involved. I love being a part of a meaningful organization in my community. I love meeting the other parents and scholars. It truly feels like we are one team with the same goal. read more

I had such high hopes for this school as a parent of a gifted Kindergartener. I withdrew my child after 1st semester due to lack of structure, stability & communication. My child was placed in the inclusion class that had several behavioral issues, and two lead teachers quit within the 1st four months. It started with 26 student, and had 23 half way thru the year. 23 students is a lot when several have behavioral concerns. Within the first couple of weeks of school, I received a call saying my child had been hurt, after a student angrily pushed the table over, and injured other students. Thankfully, they were mistaken and my child was not injured, but my heart hurt for those who were. Not the call you want to receive! The behavioral issues continued. My child would tell me daily who got in trouble and how upset it would make him feel because they couldn't learn. I can honestly say, my child did not learn much that he did not know before beginning at this school. After several meetings with the admin, I requested my child be moved. First Kolt Bloxson, the founder, told me it shouldn't be an issue and we had an in-depth convo about the other teacher SHE recommended would be a better fit for my child, 2 weeks later-- she changed her mind. Honestly, we wasted half of a school year hoping things would drastically improve, and they did not. They admitted that the class was at a "slower pace" due to the instability with staff, and that felt extremely frustrating as a parent of a Kindergartner who is well advanced. Even at their Curriculum night, Kolt stated, they are still figuring things out. While I understand "winging" it may work for some, it does not work for me. I'm not okay with my child being a guinea pig for a school that has only been established for approximately 16 months. I have so much love and respect for Wilkerson, who was my child's teacher, but I believe she can only do so much. Beyond disappointed with the founder, Kolt Bloxson and her unwillingness to acknowledge the incompetence within the inclusion class. Several of the parents plan to withdraw after the school year is complete. Due to this experience, I will likely never opt for a charter school again. Please beware. If you need structure and stability-- this is not it! I am so grateful to be in a new school with only 15 students, two teachers with 50 years of combined experience and my child comes home daily telling me what he learned without disruptions and students getting in trouble constantly! read more

Our daughter is currently in Kindergarten here and now that we're nearing the end of the school year, I can honestly say that choosing MACS was the best decision for our family! Curriculum is typically top of mind for most parents as it was for us. Although the EL curriculum drew us in, we are staying because of so much more! Our kindergartener is thriving and growing in all areas of academics as well as emotional maturity and critical thinking. The modern approach to learning with power hour and coding, are just a few perks you won't find anywhere else. Miles Ahead Charter School is a phenomenal Early Education Charter School at a fabulous community center in Powder Springs, GA. The Principal and Founder, Ms. Kolt Bloxsen, and her staff are exceptionally talented, seasoned, and experienced educators who are not only respectful, gracious, and caring, but extremely professional, forward-thinking, and supportive as they teach positivity, student work ethic, and kindness among their students. Miles Ahead Charter School is extremely unique being situated on a beautiful 30-acre campus in West Cobb with extraordinary indoor and outdoor playgrounds, a puppet theater, theatrical stages, a rock climbing wall, and other very unique features that support families, such as before and after school care, future preschool plans and existing summer youth and sports 'out of school camps' that are available throughout the year. Miles Ahead Academy is highly recommended by the community, its leaders, and everyone who has spent time at the school or who has had the opportunity to work with Kolt and her team. Unfortunately, my experience with Miles Ahead Charter School has been deeply disappointing. The school appears unorganized, and inconsistent communication. Moreover, there's a troubling pattern of favoritism demonstrated by the principal, which undermines fairness and equality within the school community. I couldn't shake the feeling of being unfairly judged based on my zip code. It's discouraging when a school's decisions seem to be influenced by factors beyond a student's control. The prevalence of such biases only serves to widen existing disparities in education. My daughter was constantly being pick on by a kid there who would even put his hands on her and Ms.Kolt solution for that was to switch my daughter class instead of switching the kid that was causing the problem. As a parent, witnessing these practices has been disheartening it's clear that significant changes are needed for the school to fulfill its educational mission effectively . For any parent seeking a school that values all student equally, I urge you to look elsewhere . read more
