Tucked away off the main…read morestreet, it's an interesting mix of independent retailers including women's and children's clothes, a nail bar, cafes, an excellent kitchenware/gift shop, and a good second hand clothing shop. The two shops that face the street are Bagatelle, which has an interesting range of bags (including Olga Berg that I'm a huge fan of), with some quite quirky jewellery scattered among them. The other street-facing shop is Chances which is a long-established kiwi surf and street wear company - just the place to duck into if you've forgotten to bring your togs for a day at the beach. It's…read morean interesting, rectangularish strip of shops (mostly chain stores), cafes, takeaways, a bar, a medical centre and another Event movie theatre. Can't say I've spent a lot of time here, but when I have done, it's actually been pretty good. Ample parking and you can see all the shops there are, so can't get lost really. There's also a nice park at the back of it. I remember grabbing some food from the Hollywood Bakery and venturing out with my friends on a cloudy day to picnic there. Unfortunately, the ultra violet rays were not that friendly, causing me to get a tad burnt and crispy. Woops.

Shore City is hands-down the best shopping centre on the North Shore, which I've been frequenting…read moresince about the age of 11 when just loitering around the shops and buying sparkly pens was a fun day out. Shore City is compact but seems to have a shop for nearly everything you might need; there's a sportswear shop, a stationery shop, a big Farmers, a healthfood shop, a pharmacy and loads of popular clothing and footwear shops. Oh and there's a Les Mills gym so not forgetting health and fitness. Unlike some other malls you have to drive miles to get to, I always find a park within the first minute of arriving and there are never queues of people in the stores either, possibly not so great for business but makes for a good shopping experience though!

Waitakere Mega Centre has KMart, Briscoes, Rebel Sport and a range of outlets and retailers that…read morehave suited my needs on many occasion. There is access to an ASB ATM on site. Brilliant. The installation of a few more payment machines at KMart, could be reviewed. I would stop off there more often, if I could pay and leave, as quickly as I arrived. I guess…read morethe only thing that would lure you here are some of the stores such as Kathmandu, Trade Aid and the Cheesecake Shop. I guess if you wanted something from these, you can drive in and out as parking is usually available. The only spot to have a coffee is BBs cafe and the last time I went there, it smelt badly of raw onion. I probably would have got a coffee there as I have got it here before and it's ok but the smell in the shop drove me out of there. The Long John Silver shop does a good fish and chips at a reasonable price and there's a Subway if you want a sandwich. The whole vibe of the place is depressing in a West Auckland sort of way - overweight people with sour faces puffing on cigarettes. It's the sort of place you pick up your cake from the Cheesecake shop and drive straight out of there again.

However, I can not get over the snobby attitude of the unhelpful staff in this store and can't bring myself to make a purchase. Would much rather nip across to the Posonsby store where I found the staff to be helpful and smiling or to other stores such as Made or Black Box just to avoid dealing with stand-offish characters.

I've bought a few Deadly Ponies handbags from this place but mostly because I can't be bothered to find out who else stocks them. In general I find the pieces here to be a mixed bag.. either cool designs from up and coming labels or overpriced basics. Which is a shame because I remember a few years ago thinking that Superette used to stock the coolest stuff, or maybe it was just labels releasing cooler clothes. Now whenever I think of Superette I just think of it as the place where EGGS girls come to buy their party dresses. This place stocks 'unique' stuff for the masses of bunheaded girls who want to spice up their Glassons outfits.

The latest range of Arcade shirts are also made in NZ too as well as Sunday Misfits so there are options for the sustainable shoppers out there. They have also recently started selling second hand Polo gems that you wouldn't be able to find after hours of internet trawling. Other brands are quality labels from a variety of places sure to tempt your wallet. If you head to Mercs for the sushi make sure you take a stroll down Cross St to see what these gentlemen have on offer

Don't worry though - they look more threatening than they really are. Once you make it inside you'll see this is essentially, a clubhouse. A clubhouse that sells skateboards and street wear to be specific. The place doesn't so much cater to the fairer sex, but if you're anything like me and love men's clothes, you'll be fine. Arcade stocks (amongst others) the likes of ONLY NY, Vic and NZ's upwardly mobile Moreporks brand. Get amongst.

The selection of shops and location - on / off motorway is ideal for anyone needing a shopping mall fix . Plenty of outlets at the food court and seats . Avoid at holiday time !

The store features a beautifully curated collection of clothing and accessories, homewares from Foxes Den and Blend Café. I haven't bought any clothing from here (...yet) but I did buy some beautiful Turkish towels that I gifted to my Dad's partner for Christmas. She loved them so much she's already been back in store to buy more. The café is also a treat. The coffee is strong and rich - best black in my opinion - and the owner, Drew is a delight. They also sell Tokyo Bikes at the café (the only stockists in NZ) and some really cool leather bike accessories! If only I was confident enough to ride a bike around Auckland! If you haven't been to The Shelter it is well-worth checking out and even though it's high end all of the staff are lovely - no snobbery here!
