I left this place feeling like my hair got slayed by the Dominican gods!!!!!!!!!!!! By far THE BEST hair salon in Brandon. The other Dominican Salons up 60 don't compare whatsoever and will leave your hair frizzy the second you step out the door! But not Here!!! Unsure of how to spell the name of the lady who took care of me but her name was Yvonnie.Omg she gave my hair back life and so much volume she literally restored it back to health! All the stars in the world can't thank her enough for taking the time and effort she put into my tangled mess!!!!! The ladies here have a true gift. I sat and watched other ladies take their turn to sit in the chair I grew eager for my turn to have my hair slayeddddd the way theirs was! The other ladies were walking out like they were on their way to a fashion show hair blowing in the air and all!!!! I should of taken a before and after picture but it literally didn't dawn on me until after. I want to show you how I walked into the salon and how I usually wear my hair on a daily basis so you can compare how my textured hair was compared to after she blow dried it. I've been to several Dominican hair salons. This was the first experience I had where I feIt I was taken advantage of. Unfortunately, my hair stylist was on vacation and my relaxer was long over due. When I went in no one spoke English, but the ladies quickly tried to help me and had someone help them on the phone. They were very nice. In a matter of minutes another individual comes into the salon who does speak English and Spanish. She was able to help me with my questions, so I thought (owner's sister). The owner unfortunately was not at the salon. I asked the price of a relaxer and to trim my ends. She stated $120/$125. I said ok. She ask if I wanted color. I said no. She goes on to explain about a rinse. I ask how much? She says $45 dollars. I say to her again no, no color. After getting my hair relaxed (which was on way too long for my texture) I notice the stylist starts brushing something on my hair. I ask is this color to the owner's sister. She like no clear coat make it shine. I tell her again I said no color. So at this point, I'm wondering what is going on. Of course when I get to the register I'm charged $150. Remember my budget was $120/125. I ask did you charge me for color she said yes. I said but I told you 4 times no color. Then she explain rinse and color is different. And how it was a misunderstanding, plus I had a lot of gray! I told her well I was trying to let it grow out. She had no respect for what I wanted with that comment. I'm positive she understood exactly what I meant when I said I didn't want color, but proceeded to do what she wanted to and charged me for it. Anyone who does hair understands rinse is a dye or coloring of the hair. The difference is the rinse is not permanent. I also know she would never have put a permanent color on after relaxer unless she was totally incompetent. I am very upset because I trust people way more than I should. I have been with my stylist Anna for several years and she would never do anything like this. Plus, her shop is always nice and clean, she cleans her hair tools and sink after each customer, she also is very considerate of her customers needs. I was referred to this salon by a colleague, as I am new to the area. I called to inquire about pricing since the website does not provide much detail. I asked how much a blowout and flatiron would cost (a silk press), and the woman who answered the phone said she'd have to first see my hair. I responded by saying I understood but that I just wanted to know a general starting price for this service before driving 30 minutes. (In my mind, I thought I wouldn't drive this far if the prices are not within what I'm willing to pay. ) I believe my question was reasonable bc any fair/transparent business person would know the absolute min they'd charge for a service. Other salons will state their starting price with a *subject to change notice. The woman replied "honey, do you not listen?!" I have seen rudeness and unprofessionalism- but her response and tone with me was INSANE. Her response to someone who politely asked a reasonable question is only indicative of how she engages with her customers. And with starting prices not listed on the website or even communicated via phone, you can only anticipate fluff pricing. Take your money elsewhere. I don't typically like writing negative reviews but I'm devastated my hair lost all its length from this haircut. I went in to get some long layers. I have very fine long hair with curtain bangs that I'm trying to grow out as well. I told her I wanted an inch off(I understand you lose length when you get layers but she took off about 5 inches from the front pieces)and proceeded to trim my bangs even though I told her I didn't want my bangs to be cut. It looks terrible and I'm gonna have to go elsewhere to fix. I'm not sure why there's so many five star reviews.I would think twice before coming here :( read more

Carmen provides excellent customer service for my first time visit on today!!!! I allowed her to know upon scheduling my hair appointment that I was natural with coarse hair. She informed me that I would be scheduled accordingly, I felt welcomed from the time I sat in the chair!! This is by fair the best I've felt after paying for the services I received with such coarse hair. I received a wash, deep conditioner, blow out, and split ends trimmed. They did a great job on my hair and I'll definitely be back! Update: I went back for a haircut and was highly disappointed. I was moved around in chairs and the owner eventually did it. I love coming to this salon. It's clean, professional and makes me feel comfortable. Too many times have I never truly felt like I was relaxing and welcomed at a Dominican salon. It usually feels rushed and impersonal. Milka is always there to greet me with a hug and conversation. She makes recommendations and explains her processes. Her sister has also done my hair and she is just as good. Milka's is great for both appointments and walk ins. I've never had to wait longer than 20 mins without an appointment. So far, I've gotten deep conditioning, hot oil treatments, a trim, eyebrow wax and wash and roller sets. Each time, my hair has been shiny and lightweight and lasted for weeks. Today, I'm having two extension tracks taken out and sewn back down to my hair. Milka is very confident working with extensions and even has hair for sale. This is usually a problem for me at other salons. They usually only specialize in only one or the other. It's so reassuring to know that they do it all here and my hair is never facing potential damage because of lack of knowledge and experience. I'm from Queens, NY and so is Milka and her family. They have two locations still open in New York. That's another thing I like. Sustainability. All in all, Milka's Hair Salon is a great place to get your hair done. Scheduled a shampoo, deep conditioning, long layer cut with a blow out and was out within the hour on a Friday morning ;) I love the way the washing stations are leveled high so that your neck isn't pushed way back too. They had a good vibe coming in one of the girls took me before I made an appointment 30 min before coming in that I had to wait- understandable- got in and I did waited 30 min then I told I had an appointment somewhere and need it to go before 1pm they were pretty good aferre that trying to get out the door in such short notice. I just went in for a consult and possibly schedule an appointment for a later date. The owner immediately sat me at the chair and got to work on my hair color. She gladly showed me her organic products after noticing the lack of strong chemical odors or stinging on my scalp. Very gentle on my hair and skin. For my type 3B curly hair (which is worn daily in a tight bun) and 40% gray, it was a dramatic change. I needed something to help me transition and she certainly did a great job. This my second time going to Jovani. I thought she was doing a great job on my hair every time I left my hair looked great and it even grew from the second time. The first time I went I noticed the back of my head was itchy but didn't say anything. Second time I came, she even mentioned the heat damage on the back of my head. Put some grease on it and said it wasn't there anymore. After leaving the salon the back of my neck felt on fire. As days went on it was clear as day I had heat damage. Small bumps, itchy on the back of my head, and excessive dry skin. I finally have my boyfriend take a picture of the back of my neck this morning so I can see what it looks like.... And I'm mortified. She literally burnt my neck. IVE NEVER had an experience like this. I almost want to go back up there and have someone do a treatment but just going to call it quits. 0/10!!! I just had a baby a couple weeks ago and simply wanted to feel fresh and enjoy a little time of self care for a couple hours and they ruined that completely messed me up. It wasn't enjoyable at all much less the result I was given sucked. If you do still go here for some reason you should really Confirm who is cutting your hair. I made an appointment with the owner, Milka, for the first time and ended up getting a haircut by her sister. The impersonator!! I was never told she was not Milka, not even by any of Milka family that was working at the time. I know i am not the first this happened to too, I know 3 other women who had had the same problem. Also, I asked for a haircut and for it to be dried. I was overcharged. They claimed I wanted a blow out, when I simply just wanted it dried. Moving on, Not only is my hair is uneven, my layers are uneven too. ALSO I just asked for a trim and it is literally 7 inches shorter!! As someone who has been growing out their hair for years, i am pissed! The sister claimed I asked her to cut off more but that is 100% a lie. The woman was too busy on FaceTime just chit chatting for almost my whole haircut to even acknowledge me, much less ask anything about my hair! Also worst of all my face was burnt with her blow dryer, to the point of scabbing up. Hopefully it will not scar... I would not recommend this place at all!! Was recommend by a friend to come here and I'm glad I did. I made an appt 2 weeks in advance (technically 1 week but I had to reschedule pushing it out) for a wash/set/trim. I did tell them that I have long thick curly hair which I know makes a difference in pricing and scheduling. The lady on the phone said was/set start at $30. When I arrived I was taken back right away to have my hair washed. My first impression was that the place was very clean and smelled nice. Being it was my first time there I was given a deep conditioning for free (usually$10 didn't catch the product they used). Milka's sister (Nola I think) did my rollers/blow dry and trim. To me she was a bit rough with the brush HOWEVER, I have been told on more than one occasion that I am tender headed so take that as you will. As people came in they seemed to know almost everyone and when I left they asked if it was OK to put my name in their registrar so when I called back they would know it was me. I said it was fine and thought that was kind cool. I paid $55 I left a $5 tip mostly cuz I only had $60 in cash. I've been charged more in other places so I was impressed. Be cautioned you can make appointments but they take walk ins and you could experience slow day to reallllyyy long wait. I moved to Florida from Jersey City, NJ 15 yrs ago. I wasn't able to find a stylist that understands my hair texture or was willing to deal with my tight curls without relaxing it. I've been meaning to give this salon a try, but was scared I'd have another disappointing experience. Eventually I got the courage to go last week and was pleasantly surprised. As soon as I walked in Rosemary greeted me with a welcoming smile and was very friendly, consultative and professional (unlike most of the salons in the area). As a customer service Manager, I tend to have VERY high expectations and they definitely exceed them. Even their rationale behind why they chose to be open on certain days was customer focused and that alone was impressive. The added bonus was the salon being clean with a contemporary decor. Most importantly they did an AWESOME job on my hair. Its the best hair cut I've had in awhile. Read this and be warned... I made an appointment with Milka. I showed up and Milka was not there. The receptionist (Milka's daughter) said that Milka's sister would cut my hair and said she is really good stylist. I should of been called and told that Milka was not there to cut my hair! So since I was there and needed my hair cut I let the sister cut my hair. BIG MISTAKE! My hair is so messed up, uneven, chunks on one side and a mess on the other. At check out I was charged $50, I asked why did a hair cut and blow dry (never asked for styling or blow out) cost that much. So only since I questioned the over charge was the price corrected! Prior to my cut I sent 2 other people there for hair cuts with Milka. Neither was told that Milka was not there and was lead to beleive that the person cutting their hair was Milka. Both ended up with messed up hair too. That is WRONG to deceive customers like that. I wonder if that sister even has a license to cut hair. read more

I visited Milka's salon last Thursday, where I was greeted with professionalism and pleasantly surprised about the flexibility to accommodate my schedule. Milka did an awesome haircut, styled my hair and for a difference, clearly understood what I was looking for. She quickly realized how the last cut was uneven in several areas and trimmed these accordingly. I am certainly going back and I am hopeful I have found the stylist I was looking for. Started off as a good experience....but not so much lately. I cant get an appointment confirmed with my stylist Rosemary. When I call they dont give me a set date and time. They tell me she is going to call me back to coordinate a time and Im still waiting on the call. That happened twice. Its almost as if they dont want her to get clients...weird. Once I showed up to my "scheduled appointment" with MY stylist and she wasnt there. They made up a story and didn't have the courtesy to call me and give me the option to reschedule. I got stuck with someone else names Rose (beware) that was being coached the whole time and I left with a guy cut and a bald spot compliments from the new lady...who btw wasnt friendly. Didnt crack a smile. Im starting to think my stylist (Rosie) doesnt work there anymore and they're just giving me the run around or some family conflict has her aunt acting a fool because I called today to see if I can find out at what time I can come in and the lady hung up on me.
