Unfortunately had a very bad time. The class I attended was not set up for guests to learn, try…read moretechniques on their own, and enjoy the food they cooked. Instead, the kitchen was quiet and had a nervous energy, with none of the guests knowing where they were supposed to step in to help. Guests can expect to stand at their own station for five-plus hours in what is essentially a stress position and wait until one onion or chicken breast is passed between the 12 or so attendees to chop. Not only is this extremely dull, it resulted in our soup being over-seasoned and opened everyone in the class up to the mistake of an individual. One of Chef Denene's friends was in attendance and for some reason she largely only interacted with them, talking to them at a volume where no one else could hear and tasking them with the few opportunities available to actually cook, apart from my group there were many individuals in the class who came alone and were not engaged with or made to feel included by the Chef, who had the same attitude as a teacher who doesn't care your group project and is stressed out by being unprepared. If guests had difficulty cooking they were not given help, instead the chef would step in and do it herself. The bulk of the feedback we received was from Chef Denene reminding us which sink to wash our hands in, where to toss aprons, to wash dishes, and other trivial things that made our group feel more like free labor than students. This lasted from 10-1pm, upon which we enjoyed our soup and rellenos. The later was tasty but the soup was inedible by two in our group who thought it was too spicy as a result of the seasonings being measured by random class patrons who were receiving instruction secondhand. Our group left after this, not confident that the next four hours would be more interactive or than the end product would be tasty enough to make staying worth it. Rather than a class, this is more like a chef's tasting that you watch be made. If you do not know how to chop an onion you may learn something, but all in all the majority of recipes were not taught in anyway where you could feel confident in re-creating them at home, which was my hope. One would be better served spending their money either going to a nice restaurant or taking a class through an educational institution where the instructor has an interest in being a facilitator. I'd like to think that this was an off-day and would be interested in taking a different class if the Chef would explain her reasoning for the class structure. TL:DR: Not a cooking class in the way that you're thinking, vibes are off and at times rude.

I recently attended my second class at Le Chat Gourmet. In no way, shape, or form could I find…read moresomething to complain about. Unlike some cooking classes that only allow for you to watch how the food is made, classes at Le Chat allow you the opportunity to be fully immersed in the cooking experience with the other classmates. Chef Denene does a spectacular job of teaching the class and demonstrating techniques that make cooking easier and more enjoyable. She can tell when people may be struggling with a certain task and she knows how to teach them how to perform that task more efficiently. From tasks as simple as how to properly dice green onions, to learning how to make a five star creme brûlée, Chef Denene is a true professional, minus the arrogant flare that can be seen in the "superstar chefs". With classes such as the recent San Francisco Chop House, complete with an appetizer of white cheddar crab dip with toasted artisan bread and a main course of bacon wrapped filets with sour cream chive mashed potatoes and fresh popovers with parmesan butter, it's difficult to not want to come back every week! And when dessert consists of freshly made orange-glazed doughnut holes served with a mocha latte toffee crunch sauce, it's easy to reconsider your career and want to go to culinary school. Needless to say, the two hour drive to get there is well worth it. The facebook page has great information and pictures as well. Chef Denene, thank you thank you thank you for another amazing experience and I look forward to returning soon.

I ordered a German Chocolate signature cake and it was beyond delicious! The cake itself was moist and flavorful and the icing was perfect. It wasn't too sweet and was noticeably made from fresh ingredients. I never refuse a piece of cake, so from experience I can say that this German Chocolate cake was the most authentic you'll find in the greater Lansing area. The staff is very professional, helpful, and pleasant. They delivered the cake to my front door at no extra charge and took precautions such as a "no contact delivery." Their prices are reasonable, and moreover, less expensive than their competitors.

This company has tried to smear customers on their facebook page, deletes all reviews that are negative and even blocks accounts on facebook to prevent any kindve negative review. They have crossed a line with the community and are getting farther from getting any sort of respect back. This company in my opinion doesnt deserve business of hard working citizens, not after how i have seen how they conduct said business. ***End of updated section*** Avoid this place in regards to events and poor customer service. Between the staff being extremely unhelpful to an owner that is brazen and rude enough to try and over charge on a kids 5th birthday this isnt a place to do any event with kids of any age. Was advertised on facebook for a great place to do a kid birthday but thats far from truth. The staff was unpleasant - not as in they were extremely rude in the yelling manor but more of the crowd that never smiles and doesnt appreciate life. Doesnt introduce themselves, never gets involved and has a feeling of not wanting to be there. As a crowd that has small children every parent pitched in to clean up and help setup. The space was extremely small and even when told how many people were going to be there nothing was mentioned about how they dont have the seating to accommodate all (total of 8 children and 5 adults) - 6 seats for that crowd, I would think at least get enough for the kids - or better yet - explain to your customer prior that they would have to bring their own seats would be wise in my opinion. This was booked 30+ days in advance. We didnt complain about this when we arrived or left, its something i thought i would add just in case someone likes to deal with these kindve situations even after reading a detailed review. Lets move onto desert. Taste wise, ill give credit where credit is due - not bad, TBH had better for the price but thats not the point. The main point is that when making a unicorn cake whipped bakery missed the mark, even having a very well inspiration photo that isnt over the top. Well, I cant tell if they were purposely slapping us in the face or if it was i giant artistic mistake. After speaking to the manager/owner - im feeling it was both. To explain the major issue - they cant do a unicorn's horn at all... or ears... If you cant do it - please state that before hand instead of trying and making it look like something you would buy from an 'adult super market', if ya know what i mean. Moving onto price. The business was paid a $75 deposit, then prior to the event paid $187 for a cake and cupcakes ($135 for the cake, $42 for 24 cupcakes) after the event we paid the remaining balance for time/space of their floor ($75) and shakes made for everyone ($31 total, $10 for the b-day kid and $3 for the remaining 7 kids) bringing our end checkout $108 and change after taxes - where the issue comes in with price is the owner tried to have her lovely staff charge us ~$170 instead of $108. We had all the receipts to show what was needed to be paid/been paid and was explained to them what was going on but that is when things went real south. After having to listen to the owner huff and puff their stuff on the phone we thought that was the end of it. Unfortunately the owner then took it upon themselves to smear us on facebook. Saying we left things a mess and didn't pay our bill. When rebutted on their comments with class (no yelling, no name calling or being spiteful) comments would be deleted and accounts banned from their page only leaving the handful of praise comments that have no clue of the situation - and now cant be educated on the situation. When someone treats customers of their own community like this it screams volumes at the horrible person they have, and are, continuing to become. To go into detail about the mess - we had 2 out of 50 balloons pop, 1 was a small filled confetti balloon and the other wasn't filled. We picked up what we could and a small amount of confetti was left (all on the floor, none on products/counter tops) . Not done though, again credit where credit is due - we left a balloon group (about, 10 balloons). Now, this was an accident because we were so taken aback on how the staff treated us it was just forgotten - i guess you can say we wanted to get out of that horrible experience and never go back but in our haste forgot a handful of blown up balloons. To be smeared over that is completely unacceptable.

At Tanger, we stumbled upon this little gem! Super dehydrated and hungry we were hoping they had something for us to drink. Not only did they have drinks, but they had vegan cookies! Being allergic to dairy, I jumped with excitement! It's very difficult to enjoy anything being allergic to everything, so when I do find something to eat, it's either really exciting or a huge let down. This place was definitely the former! The owners were very informative and friendly. I believe it's a husband and wife who run the truck, and the wife is also allergic to dairy! We had the Mixed Berry Date cookies(amazing). My fiancé, who isn't allergic to a single thing and thinks all dairy free foods are gross... ate 3! Leaving me with 1. I was going to kill him afterwards , but that just goes to show how good they were! I bet the vegan brownie was great too, I couldn't have the bananas inside of them. We also came a couple minutes before they were closing up shop, but they still let us purchase our snacks. I believe they mentioned that throughout the summer, Tanger is their permanent location, but they do events and occasionally travel. Definitely worth checking out, vegan or not!

I see so many towns that just let the old buildings deteriorate but Marshall has the feel of a thriving old time like the 50s and 60s when there were stores open in all the buildings. When I entered Samar's, the first thing that I noticed was the smell. The scent of root beer was strong. It might be from all the candy they had with plenty of choices. However, I was not looking for candy today, but a good ole fashion milkshake! Samar's proudly serves Hershey's ice cream and they had approximately 20 flavors. I went with one of my personal favorites, the Midnight Caramel which has dark chocolate, caramel, and vanilla mixed together. I also grabbed a bottle of water and with my milkshake, I spent under $5. It's very hard to beat that price for a milkshake and something extra. The owners, who I assumed, were the ones who made my milkshake for me, seems to be a husband and wife that were both very kind and personable. I hope their business thrives for years to come.
