He demanded to see legal paperwork for my service animal, despite that specifically not being required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. When I showed him a card (pictured here) which explicitly outlines the laws regarding services he continued to be aggressive, shouting at me. Person who took my order did very bad job. I kept having to repeat multiple times before she got ( at least I hope) my order and delivery info correct. ADDENDUM I sent cookies to my Co workers . I was in another area of the hospital with my husband and instead of the cookies going to my hospital floor as requested they were dropped off at the hospital entry with NO NOTATION about where they should go. Just ordered six cupcakes for a friend who had gone through a bad breakup. They came to my door half an hour late, smashed all together. I called to complain and the person on the phone was very apologetic and offered to send more out by her personal driver rather than the delivery company they use. I told her I would call her back after talking to my friends. She called me half an hour later and was even more apologetic. She said she had been on the phone with the owner and was worried that we had tried to call back and she had missed us. We decided to come in rather than wait for another delivery. She not only gave us six more cupcakes but threw in two for free and a kiddy cupcake with a "Thomas the Tank Engine" ring for my daughter - she was thrilled! The customer service at this bakery is unparalleled and they have certainly not lost me as a customer. I finally had a chance to swing by on a Thursday to try the long desired Elvis and Tiramisu cupcakes. The Elvis was mindblowing... it was like a fresh, flavorful banana had relations with some sugary peanut butter and made a fat baby. Best dessert choice at SS thus far. Worth the trip. I was a bit let down by the Tiramisu cupcake. It was "just good", but was my least favorite of the five types I've had. It lacks some flavor... I think more coffee or mocha would help. On that down note, I do want to add that although others seems to be experiencing kind and delightful service, I received rather poor service on both visits. I believe this is where SS needs to focus their attention, because their treats are already wonderful. They never thank me or tell me to have a nice day, and no one smiles. They tried to hurry me out on both occassions, but they didn't appear to be busy. Perhaps the staff realizes that their desserts are so scrumptious that Lansingers will keep pouring in regardless of how their service is. Sugar Shack's cookies gives insomnia a run for its money. Specifically, their peanut butter and maple pecan cookies are amazing in my opinion. They were warm, soft, moist, and contained the right texture. Today was my first visit, and I see myself visiting this place at least once a month. Sugarshack has been open since August 2009. I finally strolled into this delightfully small place tonight on my way home. There are cookies, brownies and some frozen treats for sale. But the main event is the extra large gourmet cupcake. There is even a baking rotation for the extra large gourmet cupcakes. I went in on a Monday and the designated specials included: carrot cake, Hostess, Mocha and there was even a special St. Patrick's Day themed cupcake. (Flavors available by day are posted on their website.) I ended up with taking home a sampler of three cupcakes: Mocha, Strawberry and the Sugarshack's take on the classic Hostess. All of them were amazing. The cupcakes were so moist and to top it all off was their perfect icing. The Mocha and Hostess cupcakes were both chocolate cake and both exceptional. But my favorite of the three had to be the Strawberry with angel food cake and the pink icing. Sugarshack also offers delivery within a 5 mile radius from the bakery's location for a $2.00 fee (Google maps tells me that I am 4.4 miles away from Sugarshack - so I'm good there!). It's worth a drive to check out this bakery next to the Marathon gas station serving up some amazing gourmet cupcakes. read more

Not as good as my homemade cupcakes, and by homemade I mean from scratch, like sifting the flour, baking soda, and salt, and whipping the butter and confectioner's sugar for real buttercream frosting. Forget the pre-made cake mixes and canned frosting from the grocery store! So, back to these cupcakes... my brother, who lives on the west coast, sent us a box of six regular cupcakes for my son's birthday. The bakery called ahead of time to ask when we would be home, and they delivered when they said they would. We got three kinds: --yellow cake with chocolate frosting --chocolate cake with chocolate frosting --chocolate cake with white frosting The cupcakes themselves were fairly good. The cake part wasn't overly sweet, and the yellow cake was moist. The chocolate frosting was very good, but he didn't like the white frosting--they may have added some sort of flavoring that he didn't like. I couldn't tell--it tasted fine to me. Worst customer service ever, but of course the attitude didn't start until after I paid. I went in to purchase some congratulatory cupcakes and asked if they had any others then on the display, because a coworker of mine had gone before and came back with some very cool looking ones. The man then started screaming at me that he didn't know what I was talking about. After a few minutes of that, I finally was told that they rotate the cupcakes so there are different ones at different times, by then I was already upset because I drove out of the way to come here because I had heard good things, wrong. They live up to their name. Literally. I like their sweet treats. They are well decorated and tasty but they verge on the border of too sweet. Teeth cringing sweet. The texture of the cup cake on my most recent visit was very dense and it seems the frosting was more flavorful than the cupcake. Not to my liking for cup cakes. I prefer a lighter texture and fluffy cupcake with reasonably sweet frosting that has just as much flavor as the cupcake. They are good but a little too much for my teeth and tastebuds. Please help me. There's this sweet old lady who runs this little cupcake shop. They also have homemade cookies and ice cream and rotating flavors of cupcakes and edible cookie dough- and they deliver! It's just too good to be true. I think she's trying to destroy me with her sugary treats. And every time I go in, the staff are so cheerful. It's like they love their job, and they're happy to see me. I can only conclude that all these tremendous piles of icing are somehow poisoning me- and why do they put so much icing on the cupcakes anyway? Sometimes I have to save the icing and eat it as a second dessert the next day. It's too much, and they ask you to pay way too little for the quality you get. Clearly, these people are evil. So please, don't go to the Sugar Shack. The infectious cheer of the place will keep you coming back. And every time you go in, there's a dozen treats you've never seen before. This confusion gives way to the sleepiness you feel as you try to cram one last bite into your face, and somewhere deep down, you'll know that's when they have you. Disappointing. Do they put sand in the frosting? I've never had such grainy frosting. Way, way too sweet and lacking in flavor. The peanut butter frosting had peanut butter in it? Really? I couldn't tell. The strawberry cupcake tasted very artificial. As for the service, I have even less good to say about it. The employee was clearly annoyed that I was there interupting his personal phone call. Once he finished the call, it seemed like he couldn't wait for me to complete my order and get out of the place. This place was really a disappointment for me. I've been hearing all the people in Lansing rave about it, so I was expecting something that just couldn't be beat. Maybe I went in with too high of expectations. I first tried the cookie pizza, which didn't really taste that great. The texture of the dough was weird, and the icing was over the top. The next time, I tried the cupcakes. For one, they are huge...which I guess is part of the appeal for the place. I took a couple of bites out of mine and wanted to be done with it. It was supposed to be peppermint, but it didn't taste like anything but straight sugar. I swear I was jittery after just a quarter of the cupcake. I haven't bought anything since those two attempts. *****OWNER VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL****** I only been in this bakery 3 times, the first time my daughter and I went in on a Saturday, and there was a very nice young girl, and the next time I went in there was a guy working there, upon entering in this bakery he didn't greet me, he snapped very rudely, so being professional I assumed he wasn't having a good morning, because the bakery just had opened, so I looked passed his behavior, and left on my way, the next time i called in to place a order, and there was this guy again being rude and unprofessional over the phone once again, so I drove in to pick it up my order, and there was a nice elderly lady in the front, and I began to address some things with her, and she said wait let me get the owner, and I looked up and there was the guy that have been so very rude to me, frowning and being very ugly, but it bothers me not, because I have never did anything to this guy, so i can be at peace, it really made me sad to know there are horrible people who can just judge a person, before getting to know them, but after reading the reviews out here, I see that I am not the only one that have suffer at the behavior of this egotistical rude guy, go visit there, but don't allow him to mess up your day, here's a message to the owner if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, and please fix your cup cake recipes, very, very, dry, and I think it's a darn shame when your employees can be more professional and nice than you, will never go in there to buy anything again. read more

HUGE fan of this place!!! Pros: -suuuch friendly service!!! -they have strawberry pie!!!! Sugar indeed. The cupcakes by themselves are quite good, and they put a ton of frosting on them to boot! And I mean a lot of frosting (I always have to remove some, lest I die of a sugar high). They have several standard flavors, several daily specials. I have been impressed by several of their cupcakes, in particular, the red velvet. Most red velvet is dry, but Sugar Shack does an awesome job with all of their cupcakes. So what's better than a cupcake that is moist, delicious, and covered in way too much frosting? Getting one whenever you want it! Sugar Shack has late night hours most of the week, and what's even more ridiculously awesome is that they deliver for a nominal fee! (And their quick too!). I got a Strawberry cupcake and was disappointed for the quality of product at the price point I paid. The "buttercream" frosting that was on top was grainy and left a slight waxy feeling in my mouth. This, to me, means there's a lack of technique when cooking the sugar for the buttercream and that shorting was used instead of butter. Everyone is entitled to use ingredients they feel is best for the type of products they want to serve but I won't be going back for a $3.50 "gourmet" cupcake. read more
