I took my kids for a walk along the river and they loved it. It was a unique experience that you don't get at the other parks. The water was clear and they loved the variety of rocks. We were able to skip some half way across the river. The volunteer inside the barn was really helpful in helping guide us where to walk. My kids also loved the playground. We have hiked these trails for many years. I like that I can do a quick 30 minute walk, or I can do the entire trail that takes a little over an hour. You can make it a picnic day, tent the shelters for a celebration. We also attend the car shows in the summer, that is always a lot of fun. There is a river that you can dip your toes in in the hot summer months. They have public restrooms that are pretty clean. There are two sides or sections of the park so you will never feel board. If you keep your eyes and ears open you can hear and see nature at its best. Ohio has many beautiful and hidden treasures and this is certainly one of them. So forget about the cell phone, put on your sneakers or hiking shoes and get ready to take it all in. read more

Looking for someplace different to have a picnic or take a walk? How about a place to go sledding or cross-country skiing? If you are just looking for a great place to spend some time outdoors during any season then take a drive out to Vermilion (home of the Wooly Bear Festival) and head over to Mill Hollow. Mill Hollow is a beautiful park. They have many thing to do and see. Here are some of my favorites: Hike through the woods-5 miles of trails Skip rocks along the river Feed the ducks and geese at the duck pond Have a picnic-273 picnic tables and four reservable shelters Grill up some food on a charcoal grill Hold a family reunion Go Sledding in the winter Try some Cross Country Skiing Tour the Bacon House museum Take some great photos (nature and portrait) Amphitheater for summer movies and concerts Attend the Herb fair, Winter Days Festival or Classic Car Show I highly recommend taking a drive out to Mill Hollow. It's a great place to put in a kayak. It has a special parking area for drop off with an easy pathway to the water. Last time we were here, the water level was really high. This time hardly any water. Not a good day for kayaking, so I'd suggest looking into the water level before gearing up to go. read more

My 4-star rating is only because my single visit here was in the middle of February and I'd love to experience this place in the summer/fall before I give that coveted 5the star. However... Even in the dead of winter you can tell the beauty and tranquility this place holds. We decided to drop by before our Chez Francois Valentine's Day/ birthday date later. We didn't get to walk around much because there was around 8-10 inches of snow on the ground. BUT--we stopped into the shelter to chat with someone about the area. There are lots of bald eagle sightings around the park and the guy who helped us was happy to talk to us about it. We asked him about the park and he told us about how many of the best features are enjoyed in the summer. He also told us about how they host programs in the center--like the Valentine's Day jazz night they were holding later in the evening. Very cute! Can't wait to stop back to enjoy this gorgeous park in the summer. But based on the kindness and service we enjoyed in the dead of winter, I can see why it's gotten so many other 5-star reviews. read more

A very clean and relaxing park to spend some time in. I really enjoy walking the trail, walking by the river, hanging around the pond, watching some of the wildlife around the park, and/or having picnic lunches there. A very scenic park with a lot to look at and plenty of places to walk around and get some fresh air and exercise. Lots of space and it's kept pretty clean all year round. Site of many an herbally enhanced Edison High School Senior Skip Day, Mill Hollow is a beautiful county park spanning the Vermilion river in a deep gorge in rural Lorain County. The river is wide and shallow here, making for great wading, but there are also pools deep enough for real swimming and fishing. Keep your eyes peeled for the bald eagle family who live here. Bring your picnic cooler and some charcoal, start a big cookout, set up a volleyball net and a croquet field, crack open the beers, and spend a lazy Old Country summer day, relaxing with friends. Finish your day by zipping over to Miller's for luscious homemade ice cream, and then as darkness falls, drive down spooky Gore Orphanage Road, looking for the site of the massive orphanage fire. The Lorain County Metro Parks do a wonderful job with the parks up keep. The park is clean and enjoyable for adults and kids. When the river isn't high you can wade out to the middle or across, fish, or let your dog's make a splash. There are several pavilions to use unless they are reserved prior to your arrival.
