What an amazing experience! I did the 2-hour horseback trail ride. I was impressed by how genuinely passionate and caring the guides were. It is a family-owned business, so the guides are related. The pace was relaxed and comfortable. You are on the horse the whole time, but they give plenty of breaks for both the riders and the horses. Throughout the ride, the guides will share fun insights about the horses themselves, the local wildlife and plants, the ranch itself and of course the Grand Tetons. They welcome all skill levels - even total beginners like me. The guides take the time to teach you how to direct and handle your horse, and the horses are very well-behaved. They also keep the group small, which makes the experience feel much more personal. You'll see stunning views of the Hoback area, the Snake River Canyon, and the Teton Range. You'll ride to see a spectacular view of Bidger Teton National Park. The guide is so nice that he will take pictures of you on your horse with the scenic background. The horses are well taken care of and the people we meet were very nice. We read the reviews before booking here and I can say that the family owned operation is well run. Yes the lady is not very computer savvy just be a little patient. But who's in a hurry when you are out in the beautiful country side. Mill Iron Ranch was an unforgettable experience. We were a group of four women with zero horseback riding experience, and we did this to try something new and celebrate a birthday. I'm so glad we chose Mill Iron. The trail was breathtaking, reaching a couple thousand feet in elevation with stunning views of the Grand Tetons. It's very beginner friendly, and even the kids, both 9 & 11 years old, in the other our group had no trouble keeping up. We did the group ride instead of a private one, but it still felt personal and small with just one other family, we were a total of 8. Cole, our guide, was fantastic. He kept a safe, easy pace, took breaks for us and the horses, and even took group photos once we reached the top. A quick heads up for those considering the 2-hour trail ride: you don't get off the horse the entire time, so expect a little soreness or stiffness by the end. But honestly, it's so worth it. The staff is kind, professional, and clearly care deeply for the horses. We learned that each horse only does one ride a day to avoid being overworked. This is a MUST DO type of experience! My friend and I signed up for the 2 hour ride with dinner. I felt incredibly safe and the trails were nicely defined. The horses are very mellow and friendly. Mine (Peanut Butter) kept trying to eat everything in sight. The views are gorgeous and at the top, your guide stops to take pictures of you and your party. The views are breathtaking. And the dinner is phenomenal!! You get to choose how you like your steak cooked and it's prepared for you with a baked potato and other sides. I was very impressed by how many staff members were coming around to converse with guests, bring drinks, and make sure we're enjoying our meals. We paid for 2 hour trail ride with lunch, 2 months ahead, and today was our trail ride, 9/16/2024. We were informed at 0800 that there would be no lunch, only the 2 hour trail ride. We were NEVER reimbursed our money paid for the lunch. No one told us 2 months ago when reserving our trail ride that in September "no one ever has the lunch". I read all of the reviews on TripAdvisor and the few on Yelp and decided to give this business a try for our horseback ride out west. Talked to Kim, she books the rides and runs things as far as I can tell. She's not rude as some of the reviews say, just a VERY busy lady that does not have time for the fluff-straight to the point. Signs everywhere state no one over 235 pounds. Understandably so, these horses are taking a person 2000 feet up a mountainside and 2000 feet down a mountainside. You would not believe how hard these animals work. We got there early, as we didn't know how construction would be, got checked in and paid, and then hung out and enjoyed the views. We took a two hour ride with an older gentleman as our guide. It. Was. Amazing!! We took our family of five, kids are 8, 9, and 14. They loved it as much or even more than my husband and I did. The views were out of this world. We made occasional stops along the way for pictures, to give the horses a rest, and to double check that saddles are still tight. The trails are narrow, rocky in spots, and are on edges at times. Not once did we lose faith in the ability of our guide or the horses ability to make the trip. The horses make one trip a day, so they are not overworked. We would highly recommend this business for your horseback riding experience. You will not regret it, but you may have trouble walking normal after you hop off your horse. read more

We took the 2 hour dinner ride, which climbs 2000 feet to amazing views. 2000 feet up seems pretty easy on a horse, but the following 2000 feet decline was challenging. Think twice about two hours if you are not accustomed to horseback. The horses are sure footed and follow the path/trail and each other well. Our guide Sam was wonderful- hopping on and off his horse to help us as needed. Back at the ranch after the ride we were treated to the "cowboy dinner". Count on an entire T bone - at least an inch thick, cooked to order, a baked potato and corn on the cob! Luckily they will provide you a box to take home the leftovers. Chancy and Kim are the pair running this operation. They are warm and solicitous. Chancy is a fourth generation rancher who personally checks on your satisfaction. All the ranch hands went out of their way to talk to all the guests and make us feel welcome. We highly recommend this operation for your horse riding adventure. read more

Evan did a terrific job not only being our tour guide (he was really funny), but he made sure that we were all taken care of every step of the way. Our ride was 2 hours (just letting you know that you will be on a horse for 2 hours! :-)), and we walked all the way up to the top of mountain and then we walked all the way down. If you read the bad comments, I experienced the same RUDE, curt, and out right nasty woman on the phone. Needs to learn how to deal with the public- My husband is 6' 4 and 145 lb-- not fat , just a big guy. I was told " I won't do that to my horses" I'm not into animal cruelty either, but MANY of the workers were as big or bigger than my husband and they were on horses??!! So want to give a better review. The family that owns and operates the ranch ate amazing! Super friendly and make you feel right at home. Steak dinner was good. Steak was cooked great. Corn was so so and baked potato was fine. Dessert was a giant store bought cookie. The sleigh ride was the disappointment. It is a quick tour around the ranch. Small ranch too. Only 100 acres so the sleigh ride was over pretty quick. Our understanding was that we would see about 1500 elk and possibly see some other animals. We saw about 10 elk. We went on a morning ride in mid-September and were really pleased. There were 9 of us and we had no experience riding horses. The team explained everything that we needed to know and what we might expect as they got us on our horses. Once on the trail, our trail boss Corey was very informative and told us all about the landscape, plants and animals. He truly was a cowboy and made us all feel comfortable. I have been to Mill Iron Ranch twice, first time was with my wife and daughter for the 2 hour ride & dinner. Like the majority of the reviewers here my family loved the trip. The dining hall with all the mounts was a big part of my return to hunting. I just recently finished a successful bull elk hunt at the ranch. The experience was fantastic Kim provided meals three times a day. The horseback riding was a couple of notches above the trail ride - lots of game trails, cross country riding, up and down steep hillsides. Add in the times we tied off the horses and hiked here or there in search of elk and it was quite a physical event. The scenery was amazing throughout the day. The hunt was a team effort which started with Coby asking me what my hunt goals were. Each hunt day Coby, Barry & Dano were right there. Chancy rode with us one day, another day he rode solo up a ridge across the valley from us. Kim would glass the hillsides from her bedroom window during the day as well. Quite a team. It took two and a half days to find an elk that ended up exceeding my goals. During this time all my meals were at the ranch and I felt like a friend of the family, not just another client. The meals were hearty meals that fueled me up each day. Bottom line, the ranch is a great place to go for anything from a two hour trail ride to a multi day hunt adventure. Would I go back? This ride was amazing! We saw other groups in the area riding through fields--lame! At Mill Iron Ranch, they take you up into the Teton wilderness, and you see beautiful wildflowers and incredible sights. The horses were all beautiful, and they clearly care about keeping riders and horses both safe. It's not an easy ride, but it was so fun. Two hours was perfect for us; much longer, and I'm not sure I would've been able to walk the next day! The only suggestion we'd offer would be to stagger arrival times for the rides because check-in was a little chaotic with one person answering phones, getting waivers signed, and weighing riders (yes, you get weighed in before you ride!). read more
