This is a very nice library, with a real community center vibe. It's packed after school with mostly well behaved but unsupervised students. The collection is managed by the San Mateo County Public Library system. Many recently published books. Not an extensive collection. Also books are not labeled with either the Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress catalogue system. Books are shelved by general groups. It almost feels more like a bookstore than a library! I feel like a dinosaur. The Burlingame Public Library is more like a traditional Carnegie library. Graceful old building (that was totally rebuilt after Loma Prieta earthquake) with oak furniture and leather upholstery. It also has older books in its collection. read more

The Millbrae Library is easy to fine with so much street parking. I've visited this location several times to grab some books for my kids. I love their children's area. Each shelf is labeled clearly with a theme like "animals," "holidays," "easy readers," "emotions," "stories," etc. There's even many books in different languages like Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, etc. There are tables and chairs perfect for children to sit and look at books. There's also a small area where the little ones can play. They have scheduled activities and events planned each month. Librarians are more than happy to assist if needed. This library is spacious, very well maintained and exceeds offerings at many other libraries (easy parking, lovely accessible architectural designed building, beautiful grounds, centrally located within short walking distance of many city services and retail establishments). On its own, it's a decent library with a spacious children's section. There's a lot of books in different languages which is awesome and such a great resource. I borrow the books in English and Spanish for my little one. You can even borrow bicycles, karaoke machines, and laptops. One time I saw mouse poop in the kids area, which was shocking but I've since heard that the Bay Area in general has a mouse problem, so it might not be something this particular library is doing wrong. They gift books and other random things throughout the year. There's a 3D printing machine, and a kids craft table. Compared to other newer library's like the one in SSF this once is not as impressive in scale and offering, but it's holding up! They continue to improve themselves, which I admire. read more

Been coming to the library pretty often lately to do some alone training for my dog. Usually can always find a table, but the nearby high school lets out around 2-3pm and it gets packed. Some of the tables have outlets and other don't, so plan accordingly. Parking lot seems big but is somehow always pretty full. But residential parking right outside the library is easy to find. Also shoutout to the library for having wifi hotspots available to rent! They've been a lifesaver whenever PGE decides to shut down our power.. read more

This is a very great library. If you are a native in the area or just a Caltrain commuter looking for a quiet place to relax, this is the place to go. I have came here a few times from 2013-2019 and it was a great experience. This is also the library for someone who is willing to learn new things. I have attended a 3D printing seminar with my mother and it was one of the most interesting things I ever seen. Like other San Mateo county libraries, they also have some teen seminars where teens can learn about current events or get a refresher on trends that are happening. There is a nice community room here that seems to be very popular with locals. Almost every time I come it seems to be occupied. Other than the prospects of the facilities when it's NOT rush hour this library is a good place to study. They have a great source of media and books too. Drawback: Due to being near a big mass transit station and a high school it can be very noisy here. I came here during the school rush hour and it felt like I was still working rather than getting peace and quiet but I am blaming no one. I am blaming no one because the location is a bit prone to ruckus. If you see librarians talking loud or making ruckus please excuse them, they are trying to calm down the high schoolers or any unsuspected foreign tourist who never set food in an US library. read more

While this place isn't horrible, there are definitely areas it needs improvement. I feel if there was actual individual study desks be better and if the staff actually took action on specific individuals that are being too much of a noise disturbance or not using the libaray for its purposes should be asked to leave. The few occasions I came here were so hard to stay focused on what I needed to get done. I was there earlier and did not feel safe due to an older lady who was talking to herself. I brought this concern to the male staff that was sort of helping me and he said to me very rudely was, " don't worry about that lady, just make my copies" this isn't acceptable. read more

Very clean and comfortable library with work spaces spread out so you don't feel cramped. The front desk staff is very noisy. Two of the librarians talked non-stop while I was here. I guess I am old fashioned, a library should be a quiet oasis. Adequate electrical outlets. Wi-Fi is open and not secured. My biggest complaint at most libraries. It cost more money for a secured network and it should be the standard. Most people still wearing masks, so I wore one out of respect for the other patrons. read more

I was astonished that the Library was gratiouse enough to print my 110 documents I needed to mail. After the commotion that it caused when I was being followed by a team of social media mobsters. I left my donation and left the premises. Overall they have the right idea but to have a customer say such things loud enough for a PUBLIC library. Totally unacceptable. read more

Ok. This once was my favorite library. Why? 1. It's in my neighborhood. 2. Lots of tables. 3. Librarians are helpful. 4. I used to volunteer here. 5. It was QUIET. WHAT THE HELL HAPPEN? After lunch at Panera this afternoon, I come here for a study session. In fact, i am right in the library right now! Talk about live yelping.. :) The library was quiet and and peaceful UNTIL school was out nearby, and lots of kids of middle school and High school come in and ruin my peace bubble. SO LOUD!! Seriously, I wish I could tell them to shut the fuck up and leave. The library is pretty packed with kids just talking, parents speaking loudly to others. It really kills the atmosphere that a library should have, and I wished I was in the foster city one..But like i said, it is closeby! I wish this library would do something about the middle school students here...but besides that point, I use to really enjoy coming here and getting my work done because it was quiet, peaceful, and did I mention that the tables are huge! I would rate this library better since I grew up coming here, but seriously what the hell happened to this library. It use to be quiet when I use to come here during middle school and now it's like a playhouse! There are middle school students on the computers and just taking up table space during nothing but sitting with their high-tech phones and iTouch. Really? If you aren't going to get work done and just sit on a table hogging it up for you and your friends to socialize, go somewhere else! There are people in need of those tables to study!! If you are coming to this library I recommend coming before three and after six on the weekdays! Between three and six you will hit the traffic rush of middle school kids trying to "get work done". Besides all that... the library is pretty nice. It was remodeled a couple years back, but everything still looks new! The purpose of a self-service kiosk is to help alleviate long queues during checkout but it should NOT replace LIVE customer service. First impressions of the Millbrae library is that it has obviously been recently modernized -- it's clean, spacious and has easy, abundant parking -- but I'll never come back here again after the lack of service I received. While waiting in line to check out, an employee asks me what they can help me with. When I told him that I'm just waiting to check out, he directs me over to the self-service kiosks. Fine, I figured he's just trying to save me time. (Although I was the next person in line and I knew it wasn't going to be that much of a wait.) Whatever. Turns out, I couldn't use the auto checkout machine b/c I didn't remember my pin. So back in line I went. I watched the guy behind the desk tell a mother with a stroller and an armful of books to go use the self-service kiosk and thought to myself WTF! That mother is having a hard enough time pushing a stroller with one hand and balancing books with another!! Once I got to the desk, I was already annoyed and told the employee that I don't remember my pin. He then says it's the last 4 digits of my phone number but then I tell him that we've changed our number a few times and I don't remember which one it would've been. He checks my ID and updates my current phone number in the system. Then he gives me back my library card and DIRECTS ME TO THE SELF CHECKOUT!!! Are you freaking kidding me??! I'm already here!! Why can't you just check me out?! So then he tells me that they prefer patrons to use the automated machines. Royally PO'd by now, I ask for the reason why and he replies with the lame excuse that due to budget cuts, they have other tasks they're busy with... OH SO SORRY TO HAVE INTERRUPTED YOUR TIME WITH THE DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM! What could you be possibly so busy with??! It can't be shelving books b/c as many reviewers have already noted, the book selection here is practically nonexistent!! They have so many computers here that this place might as well be a computer lab. So what else are you so busy with that you can't take a few seconds to checkout a few library materials?? I guess that stack of DVDs over there ain't gonna put stickers on themselves!! I told him that I don't have this problem with any other branch that I go to. SSF always promptly checks patrons out, despite the fact that they have self-service kiosks available. Since he didn't have a response, I just took my stuff and stomped off to use the self-service kiosk. And the mother with the stroller? She was still there struggling with the automated machine and ended up having to flag the guy over anyway to help her. Wow. For the Peninsula, this rivals the Sunnyvale library, my current favorite. The staff were super friendly, and helped me get a library card on the spot. The benefits of membership are a bit overwhelming, so give yourself a while to digest it all. The after-school crowd gets a bit noisy, so bring your headphones. read more

The staff has always been helpful on all my visits. Self-serve automated checkout scanners in case the checkout line is held up with a complicated transaction. Lots of tables and seating, including some good hiding space in the back for peace and quiet. Lots and lots of computers. Nice clean decor. Lots of natural light. Lots of parking. Free wifi with good speed. Good online catalog accessible from the internet at home so you can order your books from any library within the San Mateo library district and just drop by this branch to pick it up. Pay your late fees and renew online too. Yes there are kids here...what do you expect? I love the fact that there are kids here. It's the community feel a suburban library is suppose to have, duh! Go to the SF Main library next to crack alley if you don't want to see kids in a library. Libraries...a place most adults have forgotten as they head to the local Barnes for reading and coffee. I liked this library. It's quiet enough. Has a small parking lot outside, if not street parking is plenty too. Lots of study rooms or group rooms. There are plenty of tables with lamps and chairs to sit. Outlets for tables as well (they are under the table). One thing I disliked was there was almost no signal for me in this library (Tmobile T-T). Other than that, great place to study! read more

Very good library. Better than most. Staff is friendly, helpful, and they know what they're doing. Books: a little of everything, but not a lot of anything. Music: good CD collection. DVDs: medium size collection. Foreign languages: Japanese and Chinese books and movies. Children: Excellent kids' area and book collection. Storytimes 3x/week. Meeting rooms: 3 large (used for events) and 2 small (good for high school group projects.) Computers: Free access. Plenty of computers most of the time. But game playing kids fill the seats after school. WiFi: free and semi-good (except when too many kids are gaming.) 3-D printer!!! It's free! I signed up and made a cool thingie. Events: check the event list, there are many classes and clubs meeting at Millbrae Library. I went to a beer brewing intro, with tasting! Bathrooms: clean and large. Parking: fills up fast, but there's space around somewhere. Noise: moderate. Loud when the library fills with kids. Head to the back if you need quiet space. read more

Everything about the Millbrae library is great except people who come here who are absolutely noisy and inconsiderate. I was here on a Saturday around 12pm-4pm trying to study for my CPA exam and this Chinese couple wouldn't stop talking loudly in Mandarin. This isn't Eggettes. This is a library, pipe down. This isn't a library honestly, it's a daycare center and Internet cafe. Avoid during summer and after school times if you suffer from migraine headaches. read more

Great resources of books and dvds, but I really hate the women's bathroom. They are always disgusting.

Fairly new, clean and organized. There's tables with lamps for spreading out your things for work. Plenty of comfy chairs along the edge for curling up with a good book. The big windows allow a lot of sunlight to illuminate the place. There are many computers with Internet connection that library card holders can use. Self-service checkout is convenient and fast. A few years ago upon my first visit, I asked a female staff member for help and when I checked out the book, she was rude because I was unfamiliar with the policies for having a library card as an adult (the last time I used the card, I was a minor). Came here yesterday at 3pm -- no empty tables, no free chairs. My friends and I had to sit in the Children's Room at a short table accompanied by short chairs. A bit uncomfortable for me, but even more uncomfortable for my friend who's over 6 ft. tall. I was falling asleep while working, I don't know if it had to do with the atmosphere or lighting. I didn't get much work done. I couldn't focus. Personally, I don't like libraries, the atmosphere bores me. Afterwards, I worked more efficiently while sitting at the Starbucks in Millbrae Square, so try there if you're like me. It worked for me, but maybe it's just me. read more

Great selection of books and magazines, particularly my favorite, Ebony. Free wifi and computer usage come in handy during the middle of the day. One of my favorite libraries in the peninsula. I love that they have an outdoor area, within their wifi range. I love studying outside. And it's usually empty outside so it's oh-so quiet . They have a REALLY extensive book collection. This library is pretty big. They have a plethora of comfy seats and outlets. Easily accessible via Samtrans route ERC. read more

This San Mateo County owned Library is smaller, but quieter and much cleaner than the San Francisco Public Libraries. The way a library is suppose to be. Patrons and librarians are much friendlier and willing to accommodate any assistants when needed. Matt needed the assistance, because he don't know anything about the city of San Mateo. The hours from Monday-Thursday 10am-8pm, are really useful for people who wants to chill and read or study. read more

The location of this library is great. There's parking in the front and back, so you're always guaranteed a parking spot. The selection of different books is also great. So why the 3 stars and not 5? The staff. They see people waiting in line for help glance at you and continue to have their conversation. YOUR AT WORK SO DO SOME WORK. No one cares about that CHICK that moved away. Granted that was only 2 of their staff until an older lady showed up and helped me out. As long as you can navigate through the library and use the computer to find your book. As long as you know where to go, this place is for you. However, if your unlucky like me, & need to get that ONE book that says where it's supposed to be, and isn't because it ended up in the going back pile, then your sh*t outta luck. read more

Overall friendly staff & good facility. The kids play games in the computer room, outside in the common area, and generally are very loud. One thing that bothered me is when the elderly staff prepares for closing at 8 pm on weekends. They seem to want you to leave sharp at 7:55, and tells you to shut off the computer and walk to the door right away. Personally, I was told twice by the elderly staff at 7:55 pm to walk to the door, which I feel a bit disrespected. Their tone of voice sounds like giving orders to a child, while I'm an adult.
