Millennium Gate Museum was a complete waste of time and money on our most recent trip to Atlanta. Coming from Tennessee, I felt this would be a unique and similar experience to the Parthenon Replica in Nashville complete with curated exhibits, art galleries, statues, and a park. However, the entire experience was lacking and felt like a dated, run down tourist trap. Upon arrival the actual monument is beautiful. The park is pretty and has nice views of the city. We paid for admission to the museum which is $12 for General Admission and $10 for Students. Even with the student discount, this felt like an overreach for what we got out of the experience. There was only one worker and there were no other patrons in the museum this day AT ALL. It was very quiet and awkward. The indoor galleries consisted primarily of a long hallway with antique furniture with pictures of random people from Atlanta. The gallery was primarily pictures (that I could see online for free) with descriptions and did not contain many actual artifacts or items to look at. The few cases had weird assortments of items such as plates, buttons, and kitchen utensils. It felt like I was looking through the remains of a yard sale, with many items not even having descriptions. Overall the exhibit did not feel very curated, but rather felt like an odd assortment of someone's old junk put on display. We were unable to see the rooftop conservatory that was advertised online with pretty views of the parks. I feel this should be excluded from the website and marketing for General Admission if it is not accessible and staffed properly. The outdoor spaces are pretty; however, these could be visited for free outside of museum admission and did not require payment. Overall the entire museum took approximately 20 minutes to walk through, and left us feeling scammed. It was awkward walking past the one worker after we quickly walked through what little the museum had to offer. I would not recommend this to anyone and will skip this on our next trip to Atlanta. read more

This was the highlight of my trip since it was an unexpected delight. I was on a stroll around the hotel and saw this beautiful European style arch with a huge French flag. It piqued and I decided to take a closer look and it turned out to be a history museum! I wandered in and it was deserted so was unsure of how it was going to be. It turned out to be a beautiful but small museum with a lot of interesting artifacts from Georgia/US history, WWII and also has fragments from the Bodmer Papyrus (worth Googling) There were also a lot of moving letters on display about a board member who had recently passed, Asa Candler VI (descendant of the Coco-Cola founder). Based on the letters, he was a truly wonderful man who had an amazing life and touched a lot of people positively. Condolences to the family. read more

Wow, so much hate for the Millennium Gate. While I will say that it kind of looks out of place in Atlantic Station because of it's classical architecture, it's still neat to look at nonetheless, while walking or driving down 17th St. It nicely complements the small park/pond it adjoins and is a great spot for taking photographs. In addition, the arch actually houses 12,000 square feet of exhibition space, open weekdays, showcasing Georgia and Atlanta history. read more

My boyfriend and I went to this museum to kill time before our evening plans and we loved it so much! The worker at the front desk gave us a very in-depth tour of the art work and current exhibition and was very knowledgeable about the history of every piece. I'm an art history major and so I loved getting to hear about the background and details of each piece! The outside of the museum is also very beautiful it's a great place to take photos! read more

This is a relatively new arch, I believe it opened in 2008. It is based off the arch of Titus in Rome, which comes full circle since we were blessed to see it a few weeks ago. It is located right outside of Atlantic station. It's a shame, since it doesn't seem to be a huge tourist attraction. It was nice since I was able to take pictures with no one in the background. read more

The Millennium Gate is random but gorgeous. Even if it is a replica of the Arc de Triomphe, don't forget that New York City also has a similar replica in the form of the Washington Square Arch. Notwithstanding the haters who have expressed their disgust for this beautiful national landmark, the presence of Millennium Gate probably enhances the property values of the condominia directly facing or overlooking the Gate. As you can see in my attached aerial view of this monument, Millennium Gate complements Atlantic Station gracefully and provides a unique point of interest. read more

Beautiful gate and museum. It has a courtyard around it where you can come and relax and a little pond with a walking bridge! On wed Atlantic station does free yoga classes here from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Parking is hard to find, but you can park in Atlantic station and walk over 4min walk. read more

I'm sure whoever thought of this had good intentions when they decided to replicate a world famous landmark. We should all probably be grateful that they decided against a mini version of Big Ben. Yes, it's hokey. That aside, it's actually really pretty. I highly recommend checking out the view from the park below. Driving by at the street level isn't as great as what you discover upon closer inspection. For example, if you've only driven past you probably didn't realize it was built for an entire level to be partially underground to be flush with its surroundings. read more

Few people know that the Millennium Gate is actually a MUSEUM. There's little advertising done about it, but I used to work for a pr firm that was looking to help them gain more exposure. The inside boasts an impressive interactive map of Georgia as well as replicated rooms from Georgia's history. The top is a balcony that awesome for cocktail events. So before you go downing the place as a waste of money and not worthy of visiting check your doggone facts. Seriously. read more

Putting aside the questionable need for an Arc-de-Triomphette in Midtown Atlanta, the park surrounding the Millennium Gate, complete with lake and fountain, is quite nice. I've found that a walk around the park and lake and bridge and the gate itself is a pleasant way of continuing a date where both parties are somewhat hesitant to close the evening. Given the layout of the park (as well as the typical Atlantan-avoidance of anything that doesn't involve a car), you can find yourselves alone in a moment where face-to-face conversation turns into something slightly more intimate. So I had no idea such a stunning little park existed right between Atlantic Station and IKEA. Seriously. Last weekend, I was down there doing a photo shoot with a photographer and she introduced me to this place. It's a great park with a lake, a wrought iron bridge, numerous trees and benches, and at one end, the Millennium Gate. It's a giant gate with an American Flag tucked under its archway, a little museum down below and a sunken courtyard with Roman-style columns surrounding it. Beautiful. Very surprising find in such an unexpected place to. I wasn't able to go into the museum as it's closed on Sundays, but it looked intriguing of the little I could see. It's located directly under the gate and you can enter it via the courtyard. Anyway, very picturesque and the pictures I took there turned out wonderfully. Very nice space and if I lived closer I could imagine going there for a picnic or a stroll for sure. read more

Regular admission is $10, and had I had to pay the full price I might have thought it was over-priced. I got to take advantage of Museum Week rates though, and found this small museum interesting. Probably not worth a trek across town, but if you are wandering around Atlantic Station and are into Atlanta history, might be nice checking out. The large arch placed near State and 17th is cool, but out of place. To get to the museum itself, you have to walk around through the structure, down some stairs into a little courtyard (I would imagine they could host some nice events there). The ticketing lobby is very modest, especially considering the structure that houses it. The entry corridor gives an overview of Atlantic Station history, how the Atlantic Steel Mill used to be there, and eventually was bought out by a developer, etc. After the corridor, you flow through three small galleries, each focusing on an era in Atlanta / Georgia history. There are also 4 displays in each room that give an overview of famous Atlanta families. The placement of the displays however is a little cramped, and sometimes makes it awkward to look at the displays along the perimeter. Overall the exhibit is text heavy and artifact light. Image quality isn't great and some stuff looks literally printed off the internet. The museum also has a few small rooms off to the side set up to be historical replicas. Could be nice for a visitor thats trying to get an overview of Atlanta history in under an hour. read more

As THE landmark of Atlanta comparable to the Space Needle or the St. Luis Gateway Arch this little guy is a bit of a joke. That being said, I recently attended an event at the Millennium Gate and was really happy with the venue. The Arch is really pretty when it is lit up at night and the stone structure makes for some great photo opportunities. The event I attended had a tent set up on the back lawn giving guests access to the inside of the museum as well. The inside was quiet pretty but I enjoyed being outside in the court yard the most. Especially as the sun went down the venue became prettier and prettier. The venue wouldn't be good for larger events but for small to medium ones it is lovely. There is tons of parking available a short walk away at Atlantic Station. The first two hours of parking are free there. The event I attended also had valet parking available. Would I claim the Millennium Gate as an ATL must visit location? Absolutely not. Would I suggest attending or hosting an event here? With out a doubt yes. read more

The Gate is Beautiful and a welcome addition to the city.When Eiffel Built his tower in Paris,It was deemed garish,ugly and people called him a fool.We need not talk about what people think of today do we?Most people who dislike this monument because its new and its in a new place.At first I though it odd that they would place it in Atlantic Station due to it having a fairly modern look.Overall however,when driving on 17th street coming from Northside Dr going North-east and seeing the city skyline,meandering through the street with the lake and pedestrian bridge ,before finally the Gate appears with its colonade below it.Its like WOW.Its really beautiful to see. Is it it unoriginal?YES!!But duh,that's why its called CLASSICAL ART people!Atlanta is not as new of a city as people think it is by American standards.Yes you must look somewhat hard for it,but there are classical influences scattered around the city (mostly outside of Buckhead). This gives a growing modern city that seems poised to be one of America's largest and influential cities as it is already to become even greater in the future.Atlanta definitely needed this. read more

Great exhibit on the art and history of Winston Churchill. The staff is friendly and helpful. This is a fascinating close up look at the former prime minister of the UK's art with some added info on his history. He was a talented self-taught artist and a successful leader. I'm no history buff, but this exhibit does what many do, and that is peak curiosity to do some additional research. Come see this great exhibit while it's still there, and you can save 50% on admission when you check in on Yelp! We bought our tickets using a Scoutmob deal. This is a unique place in Atlanta, and I loved the picture-perfect neoclassical architecture outside and the small exhibition spaces inside. I'm not sure what the organization owning/managing this place does. The temporary Olympics exhibition was smaller than I expect but packed with information and artifacts. I've always thought Atlanta should have a stand-alone museum documenting their Atlanta Olympics experience, and since the Atlanta History Museum's Atlanta Olympic exhibit is closed while they renovate their museum, the temporary exhibit at Millennium Gate provides a nice glimpse into the Atlanta games. If you're lucky enough to access the top of the arch, you'll be treated to great views of the neighborhood and skylines of downtown and midtown. The grounds are as much fun to photograph as the arch, providing limitless choices to shoot the symmetry of the arch, the small colonnade and adjacent man-made lake. read more

This place is really not even worth paying $.01. It is a Very small mismatched exhibit that doesn't seem to focus on any one thing. Just a bunch of random stuff. I would suggest concentrating on the history of the steel mill. Because there was only one worker there, we were denied access to the top. That was the whole reason why we went. Boo for this space. I wouldn't even call it a museum. Most of this information you can find by reading online. :( read more

Whose idea was it to call it the Millennium Gate? It's 2008. Why was it built? Is this Sim City? You can just biuld a landmark wherever you want for no reason at all. Usually monuments are built to commemorate something. Another reason to build something of little or no use would be to show off wealth or build something architecturally unique or grand. The Millennium Gate is unoriginal, small, and unimpressive. That said, it looks nice and it will be mildly cool in a hundred years or so, even if it is a little out of place. read more

Normally I don't bother with actually leaving Yelp reviews (or any of the other review sites like Urbanspoon, foursquare, etc), but I had to this time. I should have heeded the bad reviews for this place and saved my time and money. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The Gate Museum has absolutely horrible management. We tried to go this past weekend, when, according to their website, they were open 12-6 (it has since been changed to show closed on Sat and Sun). There was no one there, it was completely locked. No one answered their phone or returned our messages. I posted a question as to why they weren't open to their facebook page, it was deleted. They do not value their customers enough to even bother posting anything about being closed anywhere- a sign on their door, their facebook page, twitter feed, actual website, etc. By the time I left, their were 6 other groups wondering what was going on. Don't waste your money or your time, there are PLENTY of better places in Atlanta that are actually open when they say they are or that reply to customers . read more

Worth a visit if you are in the area, but it did not hold my interest. That's possibly my fault, but the exhibits didn't seem to be connected in any particular order. The documentary about Pin Point, GA was very good but it is placed in a hallway with seating for two people, and seemed to be an afterthought. There is no parking at the museum so we had to park in the underground parking of Atlantic Station and walk some distance to the museum. There was one person at the front desk who was helpful, but there were no brochures or maps of the museum so we wandered aimlessly around and left after 20 minutes. read more

I see a lot of people bicker about the Millennium Gate with no real substance or legitimacy behind their feedback. Let me think about the towns that surround me. Buckhead is littered with cookie cutter black-glass buildings. Midtown is just a bunch of overpriced old houses that for some reason bring joy and happiness to the artsy fartsy community. I wouldn't get caught over by Centennial Park area when the sun goes down, so what's a town to do? I can see how the Atlantic Station project went south in a hurry, but no one could have predicted that it would have attracted the riff raff that it did. Regardless of what people say the Millennium Gate is a welcome addition that brings something different to the city. Complaining about the name, why it was built or where its located doesn't change anything. It's here and you should be happy it's not just another McDonalds drive thru slapped on your corner. If you want to make a big deal over why something was built or why it was built where it was built..Go complain about Stonehenge. Stop wining about the Millennium Gate. I lived in Atlantic Station for a short while and honestly it was a real treat to have in my back yard. When I had friends in from out of town they were immediately impressed with it and it built a sense of prestige that Atlantic Station failed to deliver. This is the best piece of architecture this city has to offer. Live with it...learn to love it or stay off 17th street. read more

Actually a 1.5 star not quite a 2.0. Pretty disappointing for $24 (two reg admissions @ $12 each). Not really much of a museum. Nothing of historical importance-a bunch of re-creations and exhibits of Atlanta citizens and happenings that whoever runs the place deems important. The PERIOD rooms are a complete joke-75% scale reproduction of an overrated revivalist and uninspired architect`s (Schutze) interpretation of a revival period-so the genius and creativity is quite diluted. The building itself could have been interesting in another location-makes no sense where it is. Been there-done that. Won`t make that mistake again. read more

I LOVE the Millennium Gate - it's a peaceful place to sit and chill out or eat lunch. The Museum was captivating - steeped in history of the State of Georgia. Did you know that of the original 13 colonies, Georgia had the first European settlement? I'm a history geek and found it utterly fascinating! In spring, this place is a peaceful little spot to retreat from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta. As a transplanted New Yorker, it reminds me of NY - lunching at Rosa Mexicana, shopping in Atlantic Station and then stopping by the Millennium Gate. You must go to the top of the museum and see the awesome views of Atlanta. read more
