When you are her patient, it is not the best time in your life. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and she was recommended to me by my surgeon Dr. Bonefas. I told my BFF who I was seeing. Low and behold, my BFF had taught Dr. Joyner's children. Small world. After meeting her, I could totally see myself hanging out with this woman. Her personality is delightful and she has a great sense of humor. I know you would not think that at a time like this your doctor would be cracking jokes. She wasn't, it was me. My humor kept me going. When it reached a point that I could no longer take the pain to go to work, Dr. Joyner wrote a note so I could work from home. No one needed to hear me moaning and groaning. I really was hoping that I could make it the entire time and be in the office. Yeah not so much. In addition to her being so knowledgeable and kind, her staff is amazing. From the receptionist, her nurse Suzanne, the techs (sorry guys I can only recall one name) Dale and the two gals. Everyone was great. Going to radiation therapy is no walk in the park whatsoever. And Dale was on the money when he said it will get worse before it gets better. Good golly! I called and spoke to Dr. Joyner and she is going to write another note. She made sure I had meds to help with the pain and gave me further instructions on what to slather myself with. It is a journey. If you are looking for an oncologist/radiologist, I cannot imagine anyone in the Houston area any finer than Dr. Joyner. She is a doll and knows her stuff! 1,000 Halley puppies wag their tails and look for the techs and yell "Who's Deanna?" (FYI - I said a line from The Walking Dead each day before I was zapped to signal that I was ready. I tried to keep my sense of humor going even under adverse conditions.)

My…read morefather was a patient of Dr. Campos for two years, he had a successful first line of treatment but once his cancer relapsed (common in MM) everything changed. Dad relapsed around October 2024, the clinic took 3 Months to release his "monthly" lab results, anyone with cancer knowledge knows Time is Gold, we had to chase the clinic on a weekly basis to obtain any type of answer, and during the monthly in person consultations the communication was very vague, almost defensive, extremely unprofessional. Dr Campos had No Plan for a 2nd line of treatment and was clueless about the complications of letting the cancer advance, he had to refer dad to a different Oncologist to start a 2nd line of treatment... by time time, 5 months later after the relapse occurred, it was already too late, he had develop major complication called Hyperammonemia encephalic. I'm writing this so that it doesn't happen to anyone else with a loved one with MM. I'd suggest Dr Lulla at the Methodist or Dr Orlowski at MD Anderson.

My wife did not feel good about this doctor so we found one that she felt comfortable with. After 1 visit we find out that she is not as bad as we had been led to believe. After bloodwork we find out that Chemo would not have even helped my wife's cancer. So instead of going with Dr. Hude's opinion, we saved my wife the damage of Chemo, had breast conserving surgery and is only going to need 4-6 weeks of radiation treatment. Please be careful and trust your feelings when they are telling you that something. This one guy could have made the rest of my wife's life much worst by predisposing her treatment, however we have a much more effective Oncologist and a much brighter future thanks to his open mind his ability to treat the cancer according to its properties. Not gonna say that money was a factor in any decision but the difference between them is astounding.

This entire time in my life is one big flash and I cannot decipher one day from the other. It all blends. Thankfully I have a wonderful husband (BTW we were not married a year when I received this diagnosis) and a magnificent medical team by my side. Dr. Ellis is so down to earth. He tells you everything. I'm telling you it is a total blur. I am still going wow--breast cancer, huh? How about that! After he tells you the down low, he draws pictures and goes over it again. Each time I saw him, he did this. The man knows, all doctors in this field know, that you are scared out of your mind because you are dealing with the fact you were told you have the C word. I have no family history because I am adopted. It was unlikely that I needed chemo, but all of that was based on "opinion." I cannot recall the name of the test, but it was at a genetic level and it was not the one that everyone kept saying oh yeah the blah blah blah. It took forever to get the results back. Name confusion since I was recently married and one place had me under my maiden name yada yada. The results came back--no chemo. He went the extra mile to make sure that I did not need this before sending me to the next step--radiation. That's when I went on my way to see Dr. Joyner. If you need an oncologist because of breast cancer, this is your man. I could totally hang out with him too. Great personality. I kept my sense of humor throughout the entire ordeal. I had been…read morediagnosed with stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with no lymph node involvement in August of 2007. I had 4 rounds of Adriamycin/Cytoxan chemo, followed by 33 whole breast radiations. My local oncologist decided to scan me following my treatments and found that my cancer had spread to my liver DURING treatment. That's when I went to Dr. Ellis. He literally saved my life (I was not expected to live past April of 2009). He worked hand in hand with my local oncologist so that I could receive my treatments (directed by Dr. Ellis) locally, rather than have to drive the almost 3 hours to Siteman. His bedside manner is impeccablem he truly cares about his patients, and he is brilliant. He was recruited to Baylor in Texas in September of 2014, and that is where I will travel to when/if my cancer spreads (I'm in remission). I can not say enough wonderful things about this man. Being diagnosed with breast cancer is extremely stressful and traumatic. Dr. Miltenburg was able to clearly explain her approach so that I could understand, and feel confident about her recommended procedure. Her vast experience goes a long way as well. Given my age and other health conditions, I was very reluctant and nervous about doing a double mastectomy. Now that I am on the road to recovery, that was the best decision ever. It takes me to the middle of some god forsaken road and says, 'destination arrived', then I have to go out and put the destination again, shows another 2 min drive and it is still not where I need to be ... not sure why it does that. Care wise, quality wise, like I mentioned, its like coming home to my safe space so yeah I have no complaints, nor bad experiences. ( Touchwood !) Love the little and big gardens scattered all over which is so relaxing and helps divert your concerns and pains for a while. Cafeterias are conveniently located throughout the building and cater to different tastes, though finding the right food u wabt is up to u .. lol... there is no direction map. The information desk is very helpful and empathetic will guide you appropriately. Good place to get treated. It is a renowned hospital.

First off, I went to MD Anderson with a recent cancer diagnosis. They were supposed to be my…read moreprimary doctors that would work hand in hand with my local cancer center. However they assigned me a team of oncologists who were NOT licensed for treatment of a patient from the state of Arkansas. They all thought that AR was Arizona and not Arkansas. I had already performed all the tests at my local oncologist like an MRI, PET scans, urinalysis, bone marrow biopsy, etc.... But they told me that it was their policy that I "had to" go through all of the same procedures in case they found anything wrong. I was 5 weeks into learning that I had blood cancer and had never been in a hospital before this experience. So they practically forced me to do everything again at a cost of over $3,000 after the insurance process. They then scheduled my follow up appointments with the doctor so we could determine my schedule for treatment. This was all scheduled in their app and was to be the first of many phone/video calls with my primary oncologist. The day came for my appointment and the doctor was 3 hours late to call me. My son had a basketball game that evening so we decided to drive there and hopefully the doctor would call me while we were on the road. He did call and asked me what I was doing so I told him I was driving to Tulsa OK for my son's game. He said that was way too far away from Arizona for a high school basketball game. I said it was just a 1.5 hours late trip from my house. He then said, no, you live in Arizona, you know ... AR. I said that I could be wrong but my 3rd grade geography teacher told me AR was Arkansas. He said hold on.... Took 30 seconds to move around some paper on his desk, placed me on hold for another minute. Then he said that he didn't have a license to practice in Arkansas and he would have to cut the call short. I told him that my address never changed from the driver's license I gave them during the registration process and has always shown Arkansas. He laughed it off and said that he's not from America and he didn't take the same American geography class, but I should find another doctor as my primary oncologist because he would no longer be able to or willing to treat me. He then said that I should go to UAMS because they handle my cancer diagnosis. Fast-forward 3 months.... I disputed the bills with MD Anderson to no avail and they said it's not their problem to verify any information where a patient is coming from or who treats them. It's the patient's responsibility to know that from the beginning. It's ridiculous that their staff would expect a patient that is newly diagnosed with cancer to know that they would have to pull the licenses of every doctor that they are about to meet and work with to make sure that their license to be treating a patient from the state that they reside in. I also asked them where was the documentation that stated I needed to do this because they had plenty of documentation in the registration process that verified a whole lot of other items but nothing on being assigned a doctor that was licensed to treat the patient. Bottom line.... If you have a choice, please go to ANY other hospital and/or cancer center than this joke of a place. I'm my experience they only care about the money and immediately kicked me to the curb when they found out that I was not a steady paycheck for them and their industry. Just so you know, I never heard from the doctor again never got a card from them that said sorry we can't serve you or your needs. Just a bunch of bills that now I have to pay twice for because I had to do tests at the UAMS Center because they wouldn't even work with me to get all of my records in a timely manner. Yet they want to bill me for all of these tests that they didn't even use to help me fight my cancer. Again, all they're interested in is money and not the patient. I am now being treated at UAMS Little Rock and have had the most amazing experience that a person could have consider considering it's dealing with cancer treatment . The staff, the nurses the security the doctors are all amazing and I would never choose a different hospital. Please please please stay clear of MD Anderson, and go anywhere else.

After trying to reach my doctors in Austin immediately after the diagnosis, I couldn't get a hold of my referred to thoracic Surgeon, who, as it turns out, it was in the middle of switching practices. They did finally get a hold of me a couple weeks later, but by that time I had been to MD Anderson and was feeling very confident that was the right move as even my oncologist said Austin medical system has not kept up with the growth! I was very discouraged, but then enter MD Anderson and next thing I know they have appointments set up for me all day long on Friday to meet my new Thoracic Surgeon and oncologist and I felt so much better and relieved. they had set up several tests that day as well so that my traveling back-and-forth between Houston and Austin is minimal. I just had my first chemo session and I'm back home in Austin and I'm very grateful to MD Anderson as I've had nothing but a marvelous experience so far ! They take care of you. They set everything up and you can stay at their on site hotel, The Rotary House, which they make affordable if you're from out of town. I am very pleased and can't say enough good things about MD Anderson!
