My five stars is relative to the service, convenience, and shopping experience Food Lion provides compared to other retailers in this area. When I visit my family in Rural Williamsburg County, Food Lion is my go-to. It has 95% of what we need without having to travel to Georgetown or Conway to a big-box store. This is the only grocery store that Hemingway has, so the other options are convenience stores or dollar stores. Food Lion has a deli, bakery, and meat area, with a large parking lot out front. I grew up nearby and remember getting my high school graduation cake from that bakery. It was a good cake, and I'm pretty sure they did most every graduation cake in town. The employees are generally nice and if asked, will help you take food out to your car (important when the population is older). The fruits and vegetables are pretty good and I saw more healthy options than I anticipated. While not healthy, this store always has great deals on 12-packs of soda, and ice cream is on sale every week- my mom loves the Ben and Jerry's. Get an MVP card so you can take advantage of all the sales. Food Lion is the "king" of this food desert, hands down.

There are a few general merchandise items that you can find on sale but again the quality of many items are quite cheap. When I tried to buy some heated deli items instead, I found out there were none available, even though it was still early in the afternoon. She did provide me with the deli items. When I got home, I realized they gave me a pound of turkey instead of chicken, and it cost over $11. I'm not a fan of turkey, so I was very disappointed. I know that talking to the management won't help, as this store is the only one in town and seems to disregard customer concerns. I've also noticed expired items on sale and brought them to Customer Service, but they don't seem to take it seriously. I think the corporate office needs to investigate the situation at the Manning Walmart more closely.

Competitively priced for the area and no service speedbumps experienced yet here. The Deets: This Publix is the one of the newest grocery stores in the Ocean Isle Beach area, and the one nearest to the island at this time. It's a very nice and clean store, as most Publix locations usually are, and spacious with plenty to offer. The layout is conducive to finding things you need in a fairly reasonable amount of time and not confusing to me. They offer the usual stations such as bakery, deli, etc. but they do not offer a seafood market (not that it is necessary as there are some around OIB). Their wine section is pretty extensive for a grocery store (see pic). I found the grocery prices to be comparatively more reasonable here for the most part, definitely something to be noted. I have not witnessed or experienced any service hiccups along any trips here. This Publix is a welcomed addition the OIB vicinity, and glad it offers some competition for the grocery business in the area.
