I…read morehave been unemployed for a number of months now and have been subsisting off Medicaid -- Dr, Sumner's office miraculously (I don't think that adjective is an exaggeration) accepts that!! I made an appointment; and the day of my appointment, was able to shift my arrival time earlier 30 minutes -- that was nice that they could make that happen!! I used to think I received pretty superlative eye care at Lenscrafters; despite their being a chain, I received about 5-6 eye exams there. Apparently I didn't know what "superb" eye care was, because I received no less than 10 separate exams there; possibly an eye dozen if you include the examinations by the doctor himself. Dr. Sumner has the demeanor and carries himself like a respected, kindly old grandfather; he is very polished and meticulous and leaves no potential detail unturned. Despite my fretting about what exams Medicaid would cover, he found a way to bill everything to Medicaid. His staff was professional and courteous. My 1 regret was that I could not get the high index Rx he wrote up for me covered at the optical store in his office; that would have set me back the better part of a thousand dollars, I'm pretty sure. I had to flee to a chain store to get it filled out and am still waiting for the finished products. If Dr. Sumner senses that you are a higher-risk candidate (for example, diabetic with a risk of diabetic retinopathy; or have other corneal issues, genetic issues or dry eyes), he will go the extra yards to make sure you get the best possible eye care -- and in my mind, that makes him a rarity: 100% concerned with health, financial remuneration comes secondarily. When I get "real" medical insurance again, I hope I can select him to be my optometrist -- we should all be that lucky.

I told him to not to reschedule my appointment. He said bye, with a very rude smirk and laughed as I walked out. I work in healthcare. I manage eight different offices. I would never ever train my staff to treat any patient or customer this way.

I decided to make the decision to get eye surgery last year and sought out recommendations and yelp for the best care. A friend highly recommended Dr. Lewis so I decided to make the appointment with him. Dr. Lewis is pretty straight forward and thorough which I really appreciate. I could see where people might misconstrue this to be rude and that can be someone else's opinion but honestly, I think he just likes to be honest and avoid wasting people's time. It's never great to feel like another number when you're seeking out care but Dr. Lewis and his team never made me feel that way. The techs and staff here are really friendly and welcoming. They helped to ease any fears or anxiety I had without being invalidating or passing judgment. One of the techs told me he himself got PRK from Dr. Lewis because he is so good at his job. And looking back on my whole experience, he's right! During the initial consultation appointment Dr. Lewis made sure to check all my measurements twice and assess for any other abnormalities. He was consistent and steadfast throughout this process and explained to me his concerns with lasik versus PRK given my specific eyes. I opted for the PRK after consulting with him and doing my own research. He and his team were on top of all the pre-surgery, surgery and post-op appointments. He also was just consistent each and every appointment, confident but always listening to my concerns. He fairly warned me the recovery process is not easy, which was accurate. Though I was unsure and feeling uneasy with my eye's recovery process after the first post-op appointment, he continued to assure me and offer further follow up appointments later after a few months. I'm actually sitting in the office at my post-op three month follow up appointment as I write this review. The appointment wasn't necessary but I had some concerns come up and he was happy to schedule me. I just told him my concern and he knew exactly what's at fault and gave a recommendation to address the problem. Even in this interaction when other doctors may have scoffed at having another follow up despite a successful surgery, he showed he cares. He's been practicing for a long time now and it shows, not only with his knowledge but how he provides patient care. I'm so grateful for the recommendation my friend gave and wanted to share with others who may also be seeking out such options for surgery. I've really enjoyed coming to this office and am so grateful to Dr. Lewis and his team for providing me with 20/20 vision after wearing glasses and contacts the past 20 years. I'm certainly not making another appointment (when you're already over a month out) for someone else. Why would I do that? Well, I won't, so I guess I'll move on. Dr. Thompson took time to meet with me and review my records. She made some adjustments. I came back and they were finally correct. It took 3 attempts and almost 3 months to get my glasses. I'm finding someplace new and my dad won't be back either.

The office manager, who proudly claims she has "run this place for 26 years," is the biggest problem. If that's true, then she deserves full credit for dragging this business straight into the ground. Her behavior has been dishonest, manipulative, and shockingly unprofessional. There is a constant revolving door of physicians -- most lasting barely a year -- which has led to inconsistent and careless care. That's exactly how my daughter, who has 20/20 vision, ended up with a completely incorrect prescription of +2.75. I paid over $700 out of pocket for glasses and contacts, and all I received was a $100 contact credit. The rest? Gone. When I brought the issue back to them, the excuses were all over the place. A voicemail from the business on May 16 clearly stated the glasses were dropped off that day and they'd like to discuss a credit to the account. Later, on 12/22/2025, the manager tried to claim they had been sitting on her desk for years. The story changed every time I asked a question. Then came the most unbelievable part: the manager tried to convince me that I had given consent to donate my own property. She looked me straight in the eye and lied to my face. She refused to reimburse or credit my account, even after admitting the prescription was wrong. Instead, she took the glasses back under the pretense of "donations," then conveniently claimed they don't provide donation slips -- even for brand-new glasses I paid for. The reality is likely they sold them. When I expressed how unacceptable this was, she told me she didn't care about losing customers. That tells you everything you need to know about how this place is run. And let's talk about pricing: you can buy the exact same products at Costco for a fraction of the cost -- literally 1/15 of what Eyecare Consultants charges -- and still use your VSP benefits. The markup here is outrageous, and the service doesn't justify a single dollar of it. After 13 years of loyalty, I'm done. Between the dishonesty, the inflated prices, the refusal to take responsibility, and the constant turnover of physicians, this place has become a perfect example of how a business collapses under bad leadership.
