My personal experiences over 2 Independence Day celebrations and several casual visits have left me impressed and hence a well deserved 5 star rating. At the core Aquila Park is a family haven. The spacious and well maintained grounds have plenty of room for kids to play, run and explore. Whether its a picnic on the grass, a game of frisbee or just watching little ones chase butterflies the park is the perfect backdrop to create family memories. The atmosphere is always welcoming and conducive to shared experiences hence a go to spot for parents looking for quality time with their kids. My 2 experiences of Independence Day celebrations at Aquila Park were nothing short of spectacular. The park comes alive during these events and transforms into a hub of community spirit. The organizers know how to put on a show with well executed fireworks that light up the night sky and create a sense of wonder for all ages. Beyond the fireworks the general ambiance was electric with a sense of celebration in the air. The park infrastructure seemed to handle the large crowds with ease and the overall organization was safe and enjoyable. These events alone would put Aquila Park high up but its appeal goes beyond these special occasions. What sets Aquila Park apart is its versatility and appeal throughout the year. While summer is buzzing with activity the park also has a charm in the other seasons. The large hill in the park is exciting. I plan on returning with a sled in the colder months to slide down the slopes. The fact that it caters to both warm weather fun and winter adventures makes Aquila Park a year round destination. Aquila Park is more than just a green space; it's a versatile and fun community asset. Its ability to host big events like Independence Day celebrations and be an ideal spot for everyday family activities is amazing. The big hill is the cherry on the top, so it's a place that's fun and active all year round. If you're looking for a family friendly park that has something for everyone and for all occasions Aquila Park is the perfect choice and well deserved 5 stars. There is a large fire pit in a meeting area near the headquarters. Hit the trails and take a gander at the map provided to prepare for how long of a hike you want. All the trails loop around and come back but you may end up out longer than anticipated as the only problem there are few trail markers along the way, not like the state park system. The park system is connected and you could cross into another territory. Look for the various ponds and lakes nestled in valleys and thickly wooded areas. Trails are always in good shape and there are steep hills. There is no charge to enter the park and plenty of parking.

The Richardson Nature Center is a part of the greater Hyland Lake Park Reserve, situated at the…read morenorth end. It includes a large indoor community space building, an outdoor nature playspace for kids, as well as a mile or so double-loop around three lakes. The southern loop goes through wooded area, whereas the northern loop will take you through the prairie. Both are gorgeous in their own right/ways. Along the loops you will find benches to take a breather, as well as occasional docks to admire aquatic life. These trails also connect with longer trails that continue further into Hyland, if you're looking for a longer adventure. Inside the nature center building are interactive exhibits for youngsters, activity rooms, pamphlets on monthly events that utilize said rooms, and even a small gift shop with toys/books for kids and snacks. I bought a cute little plush fox to accompany on my hike and support the park. Additional facilities include restrooms, water fountain/water bottle refill station, trash/recycling, and picnic tables if you care to relax and have lunch (which I also did). The hours of operation for the nature center are 9am-5pm Mon through Sat and noon to five on Sun. The restrooms are open the same hours the park is, which is 5am-10pm. The natural play area seemed quite popular while I was visiting on a Thursday late morning; lots of families had brought their small children to run, jump, and climb around. Even so, you likely won't ever have to worry about finding a place to park, as the lot (which is free) boasts approximately 120 spots. I really enjoyed my time here. The place is well cared for and a resource for the community to connect with nature.

Nice to find this one with a little wading pool on this hot sunny day. The wading pol is about 1.3 deep. Just the right depth for our little one. Two playgrounds. One for tots and one for the older kids. Of course our tot always wants to wander over to the bigger equipment. There are cute little smaller ones for the tots. A ship, a teeter thingy, sand crain etc. There are bathrooms. One stall and not those wretched port a johns, so this is a plus.

They had vendors, free food, live performances and such going on. Parking was all street. I parked 2 blocks down into the surrounding neighborhood. There is a lake - Powderhorn lake. The water didn't look the best as far as swimming or anything but generally nice for the views. There is a playground & wading pool. Also some other amenities.
