OK, so Miller's is a mixed bag. Some stuff is priced reasonably, fairly, or I guess competitively. While other stuff is just not a good deal. You can really notice this in their knife section, where you have the typical junk knives (i.e., BUDK stuff that is marked up in price) that appeal to the novice (think huge bowie knives, zombie knives, etc...) along side real working knives (Buck, Gerber, Swiss Army, etc...). If you need help selecting a knife, you're basically SOL, it's not that kind of store. I honestly only go into Miller's if I know what I'm looking for & want to check their price point on a particular item before buying online. I mean it's not that hard to find the stuff they carry if you know where to look. I definitely got burned, or ripped off, in terms of their pricing early on. Before I figured out their business model (buy cheap, sell high, & no return policy). I only buy things I know I really need/want & that I know is quality gear. Recently I mainly purchase little things for paracord projects or DIY belts for fishing or hunting. Don't expect great customer service, they'll assume your a thief if your just browsing (i.e. touching all kinds of stuff), and their return policy basically doesn't exist. You can't return stuff, don't think they'll make an exception, they wont. read more

All in all, as noted in some reviews below, good shop for camping/hiking needs, but also if you are after some simple utilitarian clothes/boots. Also, some really nice cast iron cookware. read more

I love this place. It's been around for years (over 50 years)... I can remember coming here with my dad when I was a kid to get camping gear. Located on 6th Ave and 7th St., t's a bit out of the way for us suburbanites, although they have a new store on Craycroft which I haven't been to yet. They have all kinds of cool crap here... from military surplus to buck knives to cast iron stew pots. Check out all of the flags hanging from the ceiling. There are always interesting characters milling about too... a great place to check out wierdos. I always think of that scene in "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas where he wanders into a surplus store. "This was used, man! Think about it!" Pretty decent prices overall, way better than Summit Hut. The last time I was there I needed a CamelBak bag, and they had exactly what I wanted. read more

My husband bought me a pretty purple t shirt here but I already had the exact shirt so I went in to exchange it. They had no others in my size of another color so I decided I'd like to return instead. With receipt in hand I was told they could only exchange the shirt unless I provided the original card the item was purchased on. I calmly asked for a manager because nowhere in their store or on the receipt did it state this in the return policy and I had already looked for an exchange. The manager never came out and the cashier returned to tell me getting a cash refund on a card purchase was "illegal". As I was leaving calmly and my back at the cashier she yelled after me mockingly "have a nice day" Happy to buy online when youre treated this way locally. read more

This is fine for novelty. I'd say collectors should not waste their time and soldiers should order through AAFEES. Especially army. Special note: the OCP they sell is NOT army reg. Pen pockets and shoulder pockets are incorrect and this is not serviceable. The manager will tell you it is based on a terrible picture they printed from a army slide show. I bought my first pair from Ft Hood and I asked if he would/could order the real one only to be insulted with "I don't know which army you are talking about." That would be the U.S. army mr. If you want camping gear (cookware, packs, tools, sleeping stuff), camping or military-grade clothing and shoes, or weird army-green odds and ends, then go to Millers. It's cheap, it's cool and it's interesting. I'm always interested in their weird pins and patches (I recently bought a pin-up girl pin which was painted on the side of an old plane of some sort). They've also got odds and ends. You have no idea. Buy some rope, some weird vintage green canvas thing, pepper spray and a pirate flag all from one store. What's better?! If you want to get a true idea of Millers, look carefully. I find new things every time. And don't even consider stealing from them. I get the idea they might kill you. read more

Miller's Surplus is a wonderful place to shop. My family enjoys camping and hunting. We have found some great gear there. We are Carhartt fans. Miller's has great jackets and jeans. We also like their Wrangler selection. My children like their Keen shoes. They wear them year round. We use our Dutch Oven to make all of our meals now when camping. WORST BUSINESS IN TUCSON HANDS DOWN!! This would be a zero star review if I could leave one. I've been a loyal customer of the last 10 years & have purchased all my best boots from them, but after today will never return to their discriminatory, racist practicies & highly flawed policies!! I purchased a pair of boots & wore them AROUND THE HOUSE as INSTRUCTED. When I went to exchange them for the next size up was told you have to speak to the boss about this because the soles look worn. (I can provide proof of this not being the case) I've worked in retail over the last 20 years & have never seen a business so hellbent on turning away repeat business over a poor judgement call. (If anyone in corporate reads this which I doubt you do given the establishment please contact me) Even their other store was willing to return them in the condition noted but they didn't have the shoe or size I wanted. In addition, EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE IS unhelpful, suspicious of me & down right condescending with every exchange, yet when my highly attractive white girlfriend goes in they bow down. No doubt in my mind... Miller's is one of the coolest store's in Tucson! You can literally spend an hour in there just walking around browsing... and if you make another pass you'll see something new. Great place for outdoor gear.... camping, hunting, or survival needs. Fair prices too. read more

I guess until I can get what I need from either one of the stores, I'll give them 2 stars for not being helpful enough. I've been trying to get a couple pairs of Tru-Spec tactical pants since early December and they never have them in my size and color. I wasted my time going in one day with my voucher from work thinking they'd have plenty. Zero in my size. I asked them if I could have them ordered, they said no whatever they send us is it. I wait until last week, call them and still nothing. They said try calling back after the order has come in. I do that, the guy says they haven't put them out, call back. I call back two days later, ...guess what? Nothing. I ask the guy if I can have them ordered for me? Yes it will cost $9 shipping. Thanks bud. Really helpful. I contact Craycroft location, same thing. Jesse at least tried to give me an option but yet...they won't get another order in til Feb. Our department switched to these guys because we were having issues with being overcharged for uniforms yet now, having issues with keeping product replenished. The rest of the store looks amazing. A ton of cool shit yet I am there for one thing in particular and I can't get the results I need. read more

Can't count the times I've entered this for something I needed and left a happy customer. From handcuffs to wool blankets, nalgenes to desert camouflage. They also have a good selection of throwing knives. I recommend you get your survival kit and supplement it with a bullet knife at checkout. read more

I'm writing this because I'm a firm believer in good customer service and treat people with respect. Especially when they are spending hard earned money. My son had been looking for a good knife and asked to stop by Millers yesterday. He loved the selection and wanted to go back today. We went in the store and the first thing I hear is a woman yelling at staff for throwing something out that she specifically asked them not to touch...not in a back room, in front of all the customers. This just added to the very confusing cluster mess this place is set up to be. I looked around and a few minutes later, my son came to me and wanted to leave. Outside he tells me that an elderly employee wouldn't even answer his questions about the knife. My son is 28, but looks like he is 18, and I have noticed people will treat him like a teenager. This employee wouldn't even bother to check about the life time warranty my son was asking about. Again, I feel everyone deserves respect. My son wouldn't go talk to the manager so I did. I also asked the employee if he was the one that talked to my son. Right away he became rude and defensive. The manager did speak to me and she was apologetic to a point I felt she was just telling me what she thought I wanted to hear. She gives me a 10% card and sort of scooted me out of the store. Of course my son will never step back in that place. to use her 10% offering. And he found the same exact knife for $35 less on line. I have really noticed that people in Tucson retail shops could care less if you are a serious buyer or not. If you want to find a good deal on surplus items, check on line before you make the trip downtown and get treated like crap by some old man that hates his job. read more

I THINK NOT. I sent an email inquiry to the generic email address on the Miller' s Surplus website asking if they carried a few different types of boots and a couple hoods. I have yet to hear anything back from them. I emailed them about a year ago and then emailed them again 2 months after that and have never heard anything... Never been 1 to write reviews and understand all experiences at businesses won't be perfect but had to write this to give fellow consumers the heads up .been to store before, unfortunately last time I went in before 6pm closing time doors were closed and employee counting drawer before listed closing time .drove across town thinking they would be open on a Thursday til 6pm as the hours on the building and website state!I understand employees want to get out early but if that's the case say so on your website so people won't drive across town thinking your open til 6pm.simply state we may close before 6pm so our employees can leave early .sincerely former millers surplus customer. read more

And he also collected Nazi memorabilia. But now that I live in Tucson I need to pay Millers Surplus a visit. It just may become my favorite place to shop. First time at Miller's, went to the 6th Ave, location and I wont be returning to that location in the future, The checkout staff was extremely rude considering how much money I spent on my purchase. They were more occupied with eating halloween candy than giving me a proper greeting or even asking if I wanted a receipt. Also, my son and fiancee and I were followed around the store by numerous staff members, in an almost "suspect" way. It made me very uncomfortable. I understand they may have theft problems, but that is a given in retail. There is a point where you need to give a customer some space, and unless you see them pulling tags off merchandise or carrying around a large purse, let the customer shop. If they need help, let them ask. Creepy, and arrogant staff makes for bad business. read more

We made a purchase, and may have given the store a 4 or 5 rating, but the girl checking us out was miserable. I don't know why stores hire people who are obviously unhappy for customer-facing jobs. This place isn't just for military items, so don't be intimidated by the entire room of uniforms, flak jackets, etc. this is a great place to get hiking/camping supplies. very well priced (sometimes significantly below what you'd find at REI or other travel/sport stores). I went in looking for some good boots for hiking. The sales staff was helpful in explaining what would work for what I was needing. The only problem is that they didn't have my sizes. As a woman wearing a size 9, the men's sizes mostly started at an 8 (and i needed a 7). they did offer to order my size to the store so I could come back to try them later which I thought was nice. But (lazy as I am), I looked up the shoe on amazon, and ordered for next day delivery so I could just try them on at home. I know, I know, I'm the worst! buying thru amazon instead of supporting local stores. but I didn't want to drive all the way back down just to try on a pair of shoes. They also have a large selection of bandanas which are $2! so I picked up a bunch for stocking stuffers for my motorcycle riding family. great colors that you don't see everywhere. Love the woman who usually is working the front counter. Super friendly, fun to talk to, and knows where everything is located in the store. a fun place to wander through - you never know what you'll find! read more

Left the Miller's Surplus on 6th avenue feeling confused and unwelcome. Went in to buy a warm jacket and was approached by multiple employees throughout my search. Very soon after I arrived I noticed that I was being watched from the end of every aisle I went down, and was even reminded by one man who worked there where the cameras were located, blatantly admitting that I was being watched. I came in dressed conservatively, spoke respectfully and hung up everything I tried on. I whole heartedly went to the store intending to make a purchase, and left wanting to take my business elsewhere... perhaps Amazon. I love Miller's goods. I've spent plenty of money there over the years. But today I had quite a bad experience with the downtown store. I had a bag held for me and on my way had some car troubles. Turns out I couldn't turn my car off or it wouldn't restart. I was just a few blocks away so I called Millers, told them my situation and asked if I could pay by credit card so I could run in quickly and just grab it. With a car full of camera equipment and a slipping transmission downtown I obviously could not leave my car for more than a second. But they said no. They couldn't do a credit card over the phone. Two people told me there was nothing they could do to help me. I asked if somebody could just walk out the front door and get my card to process. The answer was No again. As I sat just outside their windows they refused to try and work something out to help me? Really? What kind if service is that??? Keep your damned bag Miller's. The only reason I've given them 2 stars is because their stuff is so great. read more

My Dad first brought me here when I was a kid and I was in Heaven. I still get that feeling to this day when I get the opportunity to shop here. It has been my expierience that they are a very customer friendly store and a short walk through the store will usually result in each employee offering assistance if needed in locating a item or information. I recently had a dealing with Rick and was very impressed with his customer service to the point that I decided to write my first review of a store ever. Over the years I have utilizeed Millers to buy my camping gear, my military items as I was a 20 year Navy Seabee reservist and as a law enforcement officer buying many of my duty items. I always look forward to my trips to Millers and I now love to see the gleam in my 3 boys eyes when I bring them and see the excitment as they explore through the military and camping sections realizing all the gear and clothing they now imagine acquiring. read more
