I was looking for an item and was unable to find it. I asked a salesperson to help me. She pointed to where the items were. I explained that I looked and couldn't find it. She replied "Then we don't have it". Made no effort to help look for it. I explained it was a BR 40 floodlight and not all the packages were labeled. We bought Yorktowne cabinets from Millhurst Mills being told these are higher grade cabinets and paid 2x the amount we could have for lower cost brands and these are the worst cabinets, There is no quality control at Yorktowne's manufacturing facility as numerous cabinets original sent were damaged and missing glass door. As our contractor was installing he noticed numerous bowed doors and shelves and cabinets that were not squared. Repeated replacement pieces were send damaged or the wrong color and took anywhere from 4- 8 weeks for a standard cabinet. Millhurst who measured the cabinets make several mistakes too, one being a large cabinet could not fit into the required location and had to be cut in 1/2 to fit. We left several messages with the owner who never returned our call. My recommendation buy from somewhere else. read more

They are always helpful here. From the paint department, to the back molding area, To the front clerk. Everyone always seems pleasant and helpful. There is plenty of parking in the parking lot and they also have a lot of home things you can need. They also have a great tile and door area. I am happy that this is so close to my home. read more

See, here's the thing. We've been conditioned to believe that only the giant big box conglomerates can give us what we need. Since most mom and pop stores have disappeared, that's true, to a point. But sometimes you need specialized attention that you can't get at the big boxes. My first house was built around 1915. Some of the trim had been damaged at some point and I ready wanted to replace it with original wood. Of course no one carries such old pieces. On a whim I stopped in here and after some searching way in the back, they actually had it, or something reasonably close to it. Impressive. Unfortunately the store itself was a dump. No merchandise, poorly organized, overpriced. So I rarely went here. Recently I wanted to fertilize my lawn. I researched the big box fert programs and they were quite expensive. I found a program ACE uses which is identical to the big box program but considerably less expensive. Walking in I immediately found a well lit, fully revamped store. The shelves were well stocked and their prices weren't bad. Not great. But they had the fert in stock. I even had a great conversation with the cashier. I love that kind of personalized approach. Yeah, it's out of the way. Yeah, they may not have what you are looking for. But this place is a jewel. And with the revamped, refreshed store, you may be surprised to find a new place to shop. Oddball material, competitive pricing, and old school customer service. It's certainly worth the trip. read more

Tried to place a small lumber order with this company. Called on Tuesday before New Years and left a message since no one answered. Called again on Thursday since no one called and left another message which was answered later that day. When attempting to place order I was advised that the distributor was currently closed for the holiday and I would be called back on the 3rd to place order. 3rd came and no call so I called back and spoke to someone who snidely attempted to ascertain who I spoke with. When it was determined who, was advised they were out sick that day and my call would be returned the next day. The fact that one person was out, to me, I felt someone else could or should have helped me but they passed the buck. That same day I went to another lumber company and placed my order. Two days later the person who was out sick called and I advised him I had placed my order elsewhere. He seemed upset but seemed to understand why since no one else helped me and the time it took to get a return call. I understand people get sick but that should stop a business from operating. Also, anyone can return a call to find out what you need and if they can't help you, refer your call to them. Not sure if this happened due to poor business practices or laziness. I have shop here before but it isn't close to my home. Not sure if I'll go back. read more

I was searching for porcelain floor tile. I needed over 850 sq ft and it needed to be the perfect tile as it covered 5 rooms/areas in my home. The owner, Karen, and one of the sales people, Krystina, guided me through the terrific selection at the store. They suggested this gorgeous 24 X 48 tile. Terrible Customer Service I purchased a gallon of Benjamin Moore blue paint #788 on the color chart. When I opened the can a few days later, it was the wrong color yellow #288. Honest mistake you would think. I brought the paint back and the same paint man that mixed it asked where the color card with the number was to prove I asked for blue. I stated that I left it at home. He stated he needed it to prove that I asked for the correct color. So, I went home, in the rain, and retrieved it. I presented it, then he stated that he would not give me credit. I asked for a manager and was sent to Ken who stated that he does not give credit for returned paint. It is incredible that a business would be so disrespectful. It was clear to them that they made the mistake I have shopped at this store many times. The ladies at the register are always friendly and very helpful. The men in the store should take a lesson from them. read more

This place definitely serves a need, however it leaves a lot to be desired. This place is in shambles, product everywhere, no dimensions, prices etc. Not only that but there are banana peels, orange peels, old half full cups of coffee all over. The young kid who offered to help us wasn't terribly knowledgeable and was smoking a cigarette in the warehouse while my wife and 2 small children followed. After finally finding something we liked, we had to wait forever for pricing as there are 2 gentlemen in the whole place allowed to talk price. They do have a lot of variety and seemed fairly priced but if I had to describe the place in 2 words...they'd be "shit" and "show." read more

I moved to New Jersey from Central California last fall. When I was in Ca., I could always count on Ace Hardware to have the right item when the big box stores failed (which was often, out there). When I came to Manalapan, I spent my first few Saturday mornings, driving around to get my bearings. I wandered in to this Ace Hardware one Saturday while I was getting lost... This is what you'd call a happy accident. This Ace Hardware has some of the most attentive, proficient and friendly people on it's staff that, as much as I was impressed with the Rosedaly Highway store in Kern County Ca, I am even more impressed with these guys! Jonathan Smith handled our lumber order and made the purchase as smooth as silk. The counter lady (I neglected to get her name) was on the ball, displayed a great sense of humor and mentioned that she had lived in Ca for a while, too. Lastly, Brian the delivery guy. Was also professional, friendly and a seriously hard worker. I'm sold. We're going to Ace first from now on and not wasting time with the big boxes. I spent over forty years in retail and wholesale industrial supplies. If I wasn't retired, I'd be trying to steal this crew for sure. read more

The bill I have does not list any supplies, but just "numbers." Cannot tell if any of the items are legitimate charges? Update: I contacted them and Karen was so help and wonderful. They went out of their way to assist me in answering my questions as best they could about the bill and got back to me quickly. I love using local small businesses whenever I can. These guys have been around a long time. They have always been pretty helpful when I have inquired about things. While they may not have the amount of merchandise in the big box stores, they do carry a lot of items that the big boys don't. You are also more likely to get accurate advice here as well. I went in this morning to purchase painter's booties and the lady in the front register said she didn't think they carried them. She told me to ask in the paint department. I walked to the back of the store and asked the young man who was working paint department and he too said he wasn't sure they carried the booties and to ask the cashier up front. ARE YOU SERIOUS? How can no employee in the store not know whether or not they carry a particular item?!?!?! Luckily, there was a gentleman purchasing paint (not an employee) who said they did in fact carry the item and guided me to them. Furthermore, a few weeks ago, my husband and his cousin went to purchase a few items and when they went to pay at the register, my husband jokingly told the cashier "You need my John Hancock" and she remarked "No, your cocker spaniel" in a racist tone. The place is run down and there was a time when you could actually smell the odor of Marijuana near the lumber department. Truly sad as we love to support small businesses (being a small business owner), but this place needs a complete overhaul and new employees!!!! read more

How I ended up at this place, was a god send. On my way back from the store that I bought my closet supplies, their metal cutting tools were at a job site. So I figured I'd get saw from a hardware store, but I ended up here cause I was taking a detour home cause I was short on fuel. I went in and asked if they could help me pick a saw, and I told them what it was for, they offered to cut the two pieces for no charge. The gentleman refused to take my money as well. I've been looking for replacement sliders for my kitchen drawers since the end of November, but couldn't find them in the bid hardware stores or on line. Someone from one of the big store suggested that I try Millhurt Mills. They didn't have the replacement sliders either, but they figured out a way to repair the existing hardware with parts that they had in the store. It took about an hour and a half and two people helped me(actually they did the repair for me). They were Sam and Hunter. These two guys went out of their way to help me and wouldn't quit until they figured out a way to repair the hardware that was defective. You don't get that kind of service at the big hardware stores. I highly recommend Millhurst Mills to anybody who needs hardware or help trying to figure out how to deal with a DIY project. read more
