I called to make yearly appointment for my mammogram. I have a history of Ca of Breast with Metastases/chemotherapy/ radiation. I was told that first appointment for Mammogram with Ultrasound was March 26/2026. Since it was several years ago, last recommendation by Dr Brodsky was just Mammogram. It really saddens me to have to write this review, but don't take anything that the billing or pre-registration department says you will be liable for before your procedures. I was told that since my doctor ordered it as a screening that I wouldn't be charged for my mammogram or ultrasound and then got a $828.63 bill for the ultrasound. I have fought it, but to no avail I will be stuck paying this and will let everyone know not to come here, because you can't trust anything that they say. Horrible, and I'm at the point that I don't even want to have ultrasounds done anymore and take my chances will just having 3D mammograms. Don't come to this medical office. read more

If you are considering any procedure at this hospital be sure to explore alternatives carefully. You have to hope that absolutely nothing goes wrong, because if there are any complications at all, you will get no meaningful help and you will be charged exorbidently as well. Last summer, I went in for a very simple ear procedure. Unfortunately it immediately got badly infected afterwards, certainly due to inadequate care at the facility as I was very careful. In the end I had to go back to see another surgeon to get it fixed. I went in a total of 3 additional visits after the initial surgery. Not only did I have to pay out of my own pocket, the billing department wouldn't make any needed adjustments. They claimed everything was normal recovery, even though I had pictures to show them the infections. The new surgeon documented the infection, complete with pictures as well. The whole bill collecting process was in-human. I felt I was badly treated at each step. They didn't listen or care about the patient at all. They are just after all the money they can collect from me, in spite of a very bad surgery and resulting coplications. Additionally I endured significant avoidable pain and sufferring. Throughout my life I would normally recommend most medical institions that I have visited for careful comprehensive care, this hospital is a real outlier and I want warn people about the risks. I arrived early for my appointment for a mammogram and for a bone density test both made by phone in their scheduling department. I spoke with the scheduler three times so there was no confusion about the time. When I arrived there was no record whatever of either appointment. No one seemed to have any idea why. When I returned home there was a message stating that I was late for my appointment for the mammogram and that they were canceling it. That call was made while I was at the women's center talking to their staff and to the scheduling department. They obviously do not care if a patient might have breast cancer and completely ignored the orders from my primary physician for the bone density test. Sent for an EKG and waited an HOUR. The woman at the front desk started to argue with me how hearts are not important so I left.

Review for my wife's experience trying to get a scan since she isn't on Yelp. Basically the check-in was disorganized, and she had to leave after 45 minutes without being able to get her scan done. She was there 17 minutes early for her appointment. Lots of other people came in, got their scans, and left. The front couldn't figure it out, and couldn't get my wife in. Upon trying to reschedule, they said she had to wait an hour and try calling back again. The pieces just aren't fitting together and so the experience is bad. In spite of this, experiences talking with the doctors have been good. read more

A mixed bag. I met some good and compassionate doctors and technicians at the Sutter Health women's center. I also met some rough and detached doctors and technicians. One mammogram technician grab my breast roughly and I yelped in pain. I told a doctor to please give me extra Lidocaine during a biopsy procedure because I had pain in the previous biopsy procedure. She gave me the minimal amount of Lidocaine. When I yelled in pain when she inserted the marker in the breast, she said it's the cancer that is causing the pain and did nothing. She was nonchalant about my pain. I yelled in pain for a minute then she said all right I will give you more Lidocaine. I felt that my feeling of pain was ignored. T. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about the womens center. I went in for a routine mammogram and they ended up seeing something so went in for a biopsy and ended up having surgery for cancer. They set up a day to meet for 2 1/2 hours to meet with everyone from your first doctor, surgeon, and then also if you are going to need radiation or other you also meet them. My husband and I came out of that meeting feeling so positive about everything and didn't have any concerns at all. Went into the surgery center the day after Xmas and had my surgery and was taken care of so well and everyone so friendly, explained everything from start to finish. Just had a follow up appointment and they explained everything they did and found. Thank god they got it all and now onto my next meeting with the radiation specialist. I would recommend them to everyone!!! I felt comfortable from start to end, well not completely done but feeling good about everything. read more

This place is very accommodating there are two floors here the 4th floor is dedicated to ultrasounds (except breast ultrasounds which are performed on the 5th floor) for men women and pediatrics- they have the most updated ultrasound machines the Ultrasound Techs are very friendly and professional the front desk staff are very professional and friendly I was greeted once I walked in always a plus - the radiologist was very professional and explained my results to me so that I understood them The 5th floor is dedicated to the breast from mammograms to breast biopsies and breast ultrasounds everyone I interacted with was more than professional and friendly. I was greeted once I walked to the front desk you are checked in and then taken back to the changing area and wait for your technician to come and get you to have your mammogram performed if you are there for your annual mammogram you are in and out fairly quickly if you are experiencing issues with your breast you will be here longer than normal since the Radiologist will read your images while you are there before letting you go just in case an ultrasound needs to be performed The radiologist here are the top radiologist in the area along with the best technology and staff here you are in great hands read more

incredibly rude office staff. can't imagine ever trusting this place with my healthcare.

i had an appointment scheduled for 3:30 on 4/21/23 at Breast Center at 100 S.San Mateo. When my turn to register came in, front desk receptionist told me that i'm at the wrong location and my appointment is at 101 S. San Mateo. I run to 101. Front Desk at 101 S.San Mateo looked into her system and told me that my appointment was at 100 S.San Mateo, but it's canceled. She told me to go back and figure out why it was canceled. I returned to the Breast Center at 100, but receptionist told me that there isn't anything in her system. I asked to speak to supervisor, but she told me that there is nobody above her at the Breast Center and i have to leave because she must help patients. When i mentioned that i'm a patient too, she threatened to call security. I stepped aside and called scheduling department. They confirmed that i was at the correct place and at correct time, but my appointment was canceled. They don't know who did it. I went back to the front desk and asked receptionist for her name. She refused to give it to me and picked up a phone to call security. I'm shaken... Her rude behavior is absolutely not acceptable in any setting, but especially not at the Breast Center. I've been to this location many times in the past but never was treated with such anger and disrespect. Actually i never experienced this kind of treatment anywhere. read more

Excellent place! This is a great place to have your mammogram done. The facilities are state of the art and the staff are wonderful and very sensitive. I initially had my mammogram at a satellite location in San Bruno. Tests were inconclusive and required re-testing as well as an ultrasound. And just to note, the ultrasound is not the same as an ultrasound biopsy which they discuss thoroughly on their website. I called and they explained that the ultrasound is just used to get better images. Yet the unknown is still scary. The San Mateo location has a parking lot. You can valet for free or park yourself. Make sure to get your validation sticker from the doctor's office before leaving. The Women's Center is on the 5th floor, I believe. The physician and nurses are very caring and sensitive. I first had my mammogram and then was sent back to waiting area until I was called in for the ultrasound. Both were painless. I know a lot of women think a mammogram hurts. It did not hurt here. There was pressure but nothing painful. You get your results during the same visit and that is fabulous! I had been waiting for a while because the doctor was held up and the ultrasound technician kept coming back to check on me to let me know that the hold up was not because of my results. As you can imagine, your mind starts to wonder why it's taking so long. She explained that the doctor was held up by another patient and had not even seen my mammogram and ultrasound images yet. Whew! When the doctor got there, she was so kind and gracious. She explained everything and since it was all okay, she told me she'd see me next year. Overall, a great facility with wonderful people. Great staff...but you're going to pay through your bloody nose for any procedure even with your nice insurance plan, no matter how short the procedure. There's a reason why this place looks so nice - it's plush due to significant infusions of your hard-earned cash. I was floored by my bills - and there were three separate ones with no explanations about what the charges stemmed from. Nobody at the office forewarned me about how extreme the charges were going to be. If you are considering using their services, I highly recommend you get an estimate beforehand, else you'll be taken to the cleaners. read more

I was well treated by the staff, who were kind and intellegent. I recently had an MRI done because of a lump in my breast. After they had reviewed it the doctor called me with the results. Unfortunately the results were not completely normal. So I went back for a mammogram and ultrasound. I was pretty scared of the mammogram, but it wasn't so bad. They have one of the new machines that just came out in the last couple years. It doesn't compress as much and isn't made of cold metal. Those results were also not completely normal so they did a biopsy. The doctor was super sweet and made me feel comfortable. The facility is very clean and nice. And the rooms are well designed for procedures. The ultrasound room has a curtain so that you are hidden from view when the doctor comes in and out. The lighting was also quite nice, and they even dimmed it so that it wouldn't shine in my eyes during the procedure. They called me back about the biopsy promptly and left a message letting me know there was no cancer and asked me to call back for details and a follow up plan. They were on the whole, very nice and very knowledgeable about what they were doing and the facility was very pleasant. I've also had an MRI done at California Pacific in San Francisco. It was a horrendous experience so I was relieved to be treated well and to have the radiology tech know what he was doing. read more

I moved out of the Bay Area and started getting my mammograms done again. I now can compare. Extremely happy that I don't have to go back here. I always had a bad experience that is after their obsessive and annoying calls to schedule. read more

REVIEW ON PREGNANCY CLASSES - Caring for your newborn - straightforward 4 hour class taught by a Labor and Delivery RN. Talks about labor and goes into "caring for your newborn" material as well as such as Mongolian spots, Milia, stork head, etc. We skipped this part of the class (last part) since we went to the "Caring for your Newborn" session prior. No "lamaze" taught in either of these classes. Bring snacks and drinks for yourself. Parking is Free on Sunday in the LOT. Taught by L&D RNs; informative, though I would of preferred to meet other couples and socialize with them and their experiences so far. UCSF classes separated the man and woman apart for 15 minutes to share challenges/experiences unique to them and then we shared it in class. I thought that was neat; rather than just have the teacher talk ALL the time. Best experience ever! Got a call back after my mammogram was done to come back and get more films done. To make a long story short I ended up with an ultrasound and biopsy. I was scared to death! Dr. Dorra Sellami, I believe is a Radiologist explained my ultrasound and biopsy. She was absolutely delightful! Very knowledgeable and calming! Couldn't have had a better doctor! End result was a successful operation for breast cancer. When I have to make an appt. for follow-up appts. I always try to schedule my appt. when Dr. Sellami is working. I had questions about a procedure that I was scheduled for next week in regards to how my medical insurance would apply and Lucy is the reason why I can sleep better tonight. She took the time to find out what my concerns were and what my situation was. She took it upon herself to call my insurance company, research my insurance coverage and really explained how these billing things play out and are handled. I truly appreciate someone who puts themselves in your shoes and aren't the typical person who doesn't really care because it's not their money. Mixed review: I absolutely HATE this place for mammography and stopped going here years ago. They overcharged for everything. Today, however, I was forced to go here instead of Mills-Peninsula Health Services Lab in the Hospital in Burlingame as I prefer. They said I had to go here for ultrasound lab work, okay. I hope I don't have billing problems again. I got the same technician I had at Burlingame and she is stellar! Professional, courteous, communicative and helpful. Since this is the 3rd or 4th round of lab work tests I've had to have in the last 2 months, it's very nice to get someone nice when you have to go back and again. I will go back for the ultrasound dept here at the Women's Center, HOWEVER, it does not negate that parking is bad, walking access to the Women's Center is almost nonexistent -- you have to walk all around the hospital to access the building at center front, and then back thru the same area you walked around to get to the correct elevator to get to the Women's Center on the 4th Floor. However, I just figured out you can walk thru the Cancer Center and get right to that elevator. Don't know how they feel about it, but if I have to go back again, that's where I'm going. Also, the hospital/lab area has been under renovation construction for awhile and the parking lots stairs, etc., were littered with trash and didn't look like it has been cleaned in a very long while. read more

Everything about the Mills-Peninsula Women's Center is top notch. From the front desk, to the sweet volunteer escorts, to the mammography and ultrasound technicians, the doctors themselves--even the decor, the nice full-length robes they provide, and the background music--this place is designed to make you feel comfortable, calm, and cared for. I live in Oakland and have no compunction about making the special trip to San Mateo for my annual exams. It's well worth it. I really appreciate the communication skills of the Center's medical staff. I'm someone who likes a lot information. I want to know what's going on at each step of the process--how long it's going to take, what they're looking for, how the equipment works, what's the latest research. I want to feel as if I'm participating--mind AND body--in the experience. The staff are more than willing to acommodate. I would like to echo Nancy G.'s comments about Dr. Harriet Barofsky. You couldn't ask for a doctor with a warmer, more patient, more genuinely caring bedside manner. Five years ago, my sister, at age 32, was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was Dr. Barofsky who called her to deliver the bad news. She stayed on the phone with her to make sure she had someone standing right there next to her to support her after she hung up. She didn't want her to be alone after getting the diagnosis. That's the kind of doctor she is. (And five years later, my sister has a clean bill of health. Hurray!) read more

There is no better place to have a mammogram, period. From the easy parking to the beautiful decor, everything is great. Each year, I arrive, check in and am taken back to change clothes within 3 minutes. The robes are very nice as well. I am often seen within 2-3 minutes. Kathleen has done my mammogram for many years, so we enjoy catching up. However, she is efficient and very professional. I am very large breasted, but have never had to go back for a repeat, as they are careful to get it right the first time. I am often back in my car 20 minutes later. Can't imagine going anywhere else for screening mammograms. read more

I think it's so hard to find a doctor you really feel comfortable with, especially for those sometimes dreadful gyn appointments. I have been a patient with the Mills-Peninsula group for about 5 years and I have had an overall great experience with the nurses, doctors and receptionists. I have the best doctor in the world- Dr. Lisa Dyer. At the Mills-Peninsula Women's Center I have always been able to get in an appointment during a time that has been convenient for me. The receptionists have always been polite to me. The waiting area has usually been quiet and clean, which is more relaxing than other waiting areas. They have always gladly accommodated my special requests, such as "Woman Tech Only," and just recently I requested that I not have a student-in-training as part of my appointment. If these are things you care about during your appointment, make sure you mention it when you make your appointment, and at the appt. check-in. The last time I was there I had an appointment with Sara who was great. She was friendly and helpful, and kind and quick (in comparison to another tech who I had been with on another visit). There was one time when they were really busy/over-booked there and I was getting annoyed because I was on a break from work and I had to go back. I told them that I had students waiting for their teacher and I didn't have a lot of time to spare. They apologized and got me right in and were very attentive to the clock so that I could make it back to work in time. Finally, there is a parking garage which is easy to park in and you get a 3-hour validation sticker when you arrive for you appointment. read more

This place rocks! I was dreading mammograms or anything to do with breasts due to bad experiences at another center - the staff at Women's Center make it seem like a breeze. Having to spend as less time as possible for the procedures definitely helps the stress levels.(I spent only 15-20 mins inside the mammogram room - no unnecessary additional images, ultrasounds, biopsies!) The only catch was I had to wait several months to schedule my routine mammogram - that's what my insurance would cover. If it's urgent, they get you in the same week. read more

Massively overcharged me (over 800%) for a simple scan despite having my full & correct insurance details. Insisted that I pay in full on the spot. Still haven't been issued a refund despite them admitting to overcharging me. Worst part is that I had to delay the scan by a month so I could afford to pay the fee they quoted me. All for no reason. Good thing they didn't find anything time-sensitive. Sort your billing out before you scare someone into someone into missing an important diagnosis before it is too late. read more

I have been here on 2 separate occassions. First one was for a breast ultrasound which was scary!! The technician (who was pregnant at the time) was very sweet and made me feel comfortable. After the US, Dr. Borofsky came in to talk with me and she was awesome!! She even did a repeat US and said everything was normal. Second time was for a baby ultrasound. I was very early in my pregnancy and had a scare. The technician (Heidi?) was very comforting and respectful of my privacy. Luckily everything is going well with my baby! Both times the receptionists were very friendly, place is kept nice and clean and I felt very comfort being there. I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Welcome to the 40 club means it's time to go get a mammogram. I wasn't looking forward to it but it needed to be done. The Women's Center is really nice and the furniture is comfortable. The receptionist let me know that there was a slight delay and will that work for me.... then got me magazines to read. She was incredibly sweet. She took me to a room where I put on a robe and then had a seat to wait for the tech. A few minutes later the tech came to get me and she was an absolute sweetie. Since I have had an augmentation, the procedure is a little different for me but she was gentle and respectful. I haven't seen the bill yet, and have been grossly overcharged by Mills Peninsula before so a little nervous about that but overall my first mammogram wasn't bad. read more

I delivered my baby in this hospital in May of this year. Dr. Alla Skalnyi delivered my baby and she was fantastic. By my bed all the time, made me feel comfortable and because of her approach I felt fully comfortable and calm. The nurses at Birth Center are wonderful. So calm, understanding and accommodating. I know I was not the most pleasant patient they ever had, but they never made me feel it. I thank you all for everything you've done for me and my baby. Hope to see you soon... :-) read more

Not happy. I am had breast biopsy done at this facility in 2012. The cost was $3200. I came back and had one just last month. The cost.... $8750!!! So the price tripled in 7 years??? The codes were the same, they just charged 3 times the price. I know the bay area is expensive, but even housing has not tripled in 7 years. Biopsies are simple procedures,without anesthesia, done in a normal doctors office in under an hour. Should it really cost almost $9K? I think Sutter Health and Mills it not doing what it should to keep costs down. They also never advised me as to the cost or asked me if I had the means to pay for it. Beware! read more

I had my initial breast cancer biopsy here and have been coming for followup a couple years. I called today to schedule a six month followup appt after calling before with multiple recordings, and was told they have a five week wait for a routine non-urgent appt., and with limited time availability after that. So, they do not really need your business as they are full. This might explain why receptionists in the breast imaging and biopsy center are typically busy chatting with each other about personal, often inappropriate topics when I have come. Waits are long when there, and some patients loudly chat with friends and family on cell phones in multiple conflicting languages in the overly warm communal waiting area after women change, instead of being quiet to allow others to relax, while overhead music played pounding pop that further irritates. Dr. Barowsky has kind of a sing-song elementary school teacher baby-talk style of speech, regardless of patient educational level, I guess because women like it that way and doing the same thing for everyone, i.e., dumbing it down, keeps it simple and efficient for her. Techs vary, last time one was coughing and had a runny nose and looked ill and tired, should not have been there working. I have continued coming here, an inconvenient location, only for continuity of imaging review, in the same place, by the same doctor, as that can help pick up subtle changes. I expect further deterioration in the experience as more costs are cut by government funding agencies, and by private insurance, as is the case almost everywhere unless you are someone important, even if you are willing to pay. read more

Everything went well. The lady who did my ultra sound was really nice. She gave me extra towels to wipe off the gel. I was surprised that the gel was really warm other places have cold gel. Process was really quick. I would recommend getting a ultra sound here. read more

I have never left any yelp review.. Until now. I have a history of cancer and need to get routine ultrasounds for check up. I am a student living away from home, so had to find a new place to get the utrasound done. Under the impression that this was a health center, which they refer themselves to, and not a hospital, I figured this was a safe bet. I was billed $800 instead of the usual $100-200. When I came in to talk about it, they said it was my fault I never asked how much it would be and that I should have gone across the street to get my ultrasound done. No one warned me it would cost EIGHT TIMES as much to get a normal ultrasound done here when I scheduled the appointment. All they could offer me is interest free payment. I would give them zero stars if I could.. Obviously all they care about is getting their money here and not about the patients well being. read more

I've been going here for many years, and have breast mammograms, ultrasounds, and MRI's, as well as a stereotactic guided biopsy. For the latter, I had a Russian doctor, whose name I've forgotten, and despite the grueling procedure, she was excellent and super professional. For the ultrasound, I've seen Harriet Borofsky, who is phenomenal--answers all my questions, is prepared, with a swift, smooth and seamless approach . . . despite being nervous about the outcome/results of the tests, I'm in and out with a minimum of fuss. All of the technicians are superb, experienced and sensitive. In all my years of going there, I've had only one bad experience, and I wish I knew his name. He read my mammogram, and when talking to me, was so profoundly insensitive and socially oafish: he told me that I needed to get more testing, and when I got anxious, he basically chided me for my reaction! What an ass :-( But I lucked out and never saw him again . . . btw, I did give feedback about him--because of his lack of social skills and insensitivity, he was not well-suited to work there; this had nothing to do with his gender, because the best obgyn doc I ever had was male. Generally, this center for women is phenomenal, and I love their set up! read more

My doctor (part of Mills-Peninsula) referred me to the Women's Center for a routine mammogram. Because their system is computerized and they received the doctor's referral this way, the Women's Center called ME to make the appointment. At that time, I was asked what my insurance was; I gave them my insurance info on the phone, reading right off the card. My insurance information is also in the Mills-Peninsula system, so the scheduler was basically confirming the information I gave her on the phone against what she was reading on her screen. Flash forward 4 weeks to my appointment. I give the receptionist my insurance card and ID. She says, "oh, we don't take this insurance, so we cannot see you". I was FLOORED. I said, you people initiated this appointment on my doctor's orders. I gave your scheduler my insurance information. You've had it for a MONTH. I said, Even if I'm out of network, I'm still covered for PART of the cost of a routine mammogram, since it's preventive care. How much is a mammogram? I'm happy to pay my share. She said, "We have no way of finding out how much a mammogram is." Then she said, "Out-of-network is the same as having no insurance". I told her, "Uh, NO IT'S NOT. I have a PPO, which means I can see anyone I want, in or out of network." She ended the conversation by saying "I suggest you call around and find a place that takes your insurance." Now, I think we all know that you can get a mammogram without insurance. Oh, and I HAVE insurance. What these people are not getting is that *I* decide where and from whom I get my healthcare, not my insurance company. Our family currently sees 3 other doctors who are "out of network" -- none have ever refused to see us because we are out of network. They simply bill us accordingly. Why have an out-of-network option if you are not permitted to use it? I don't give a *&*% about the pretty waiting room, the fountain, or the cheery fake smiles at the Women's Center. Any place that would send an INSURED woman away because she's out-of-network (but willing to pay the difference) is unethical. I have never in my entire life been sent away from a hospital or clinic and denied healthcare for ANY reason. I was appalled, embarrassed, and humiliated. I work in cancer research, by the way. I will be going out of my way to NOT recommend this place to my friends and colleagues. Sadly, though, I have no idea where I'm going to get a mammogram. read more

What has happened to the nice Harriet Borofsky, she was mean and telling me that one glass of wine is good for your heart but 2 glasses is bad for your breasts. Telling me it was my lucky day not being diagnosed with cancer, others had been. She needs to find that compassionate, doctor she used to be. read more
