Having never been to an urgent care facility I had no idea what to expect. In my wildest dreams I did not experience such a caring, professional and kind staff, from the front desk to Dr. Gore to the nursing staff. I had been experiencing very high blood pressure. My wife twisted her foot and in intense pain with bruising, went to San Mateo's Sutter urgent care location. The doctor said it was unlikely that she had a broken bone so she was sent off with NO X-ray, no boot, and no serious pain medications. More than a week later, I convinced her to see my podiatrist who immediately diagnosed a likely broken bone, fitted her with a boot, and sent her across the street, ironically to the same Mills location, for an X-ray, that confirmed the broken bone diagnosis. Not an issue of insurance, as we have excellent coverage. Who knows if her fracture displacement was caused by walking around on a broken bone for more than a week. Poor care. Would not recommend nor will we go there again. read more

I was seeing by a physician who was excellent. Only waited about 10 minutes and everyone there was kind and attentive.

While there was no wait on a Wednesday afternoon, Dr J Wolgast was not very sympathetic to my UTI symptoms and kept insisting it was common after menopause to have these symptoms. Unfortunately I have had many UTI infections so I know how they feel. She sent me home and told me to take Tylenol, even though the home test showed positive UTI. Two days later the culture came back positive, so I was right! Luckily I managed to see my urologist in the meantime, and had started antibiotics or I would have ended up in ER. I think urgent care is always a good option when you need to be seen quickly and don't have something so serious that it justifies paying emergency room prices. I came to the clinic in San Mateo on a Saturday morning right when they opened. There were already a couple of people ahead of me, but they were able to check me in right away and within 15 minutes, I was called in. The staff moved me through my visit efficiently. The clinic itself was well maintained and very clean and modern. I was experiencing stomach pain and the doctor I saw prescribed me some OTC antacids to try for the next few days. I wish there had been the option to do more diagnostic testing that could have helped to pinpoint the result a bit better as my pain only got worse the next couple of days, which resulted in me having to go into the ER anyway. read more

The diagnostic was accurate (flu) and the medications prescribed were effective. The doctor (Dr. Tom) was compassionate and was on point to ensure the medications did not interact with other meds I have been taking. I felt better later the same day with the temporary steroid dose to relieve my severe sore throat. The next day I was back to my normal self already when I thought I had to suffer for a few more days. Many thanks to the doctor and the medical team for their care. read more

This urgent care advertises that walk ins are welcome but when you get there, they turn you away. I came a little over an hour before they closed on Sunday. Other urgent cares that I've been to don't turn away patients until it's actually closing time. They had a nurse come to the waiting room just to tell me that the wait time would go beyond the closing time, so they wouldn't be able to take me. I was frustrated and called them useless as I walked away, for that I do apologize. However, I would have been more understanding if the tall male nurse who I won't identify by name showed an ounce of compassion and customer service when explaining the situation. No apology, no advice for home self care, no "I hope you feel better," no nothing. Also, If there is a time cut off for walk ins, they should state that on their website for transparency. read more

I had a horrible experience at this urgent care. Check-in was easy and no wait at opening on a Sunday morning. Doctor was fine. The nurse who came in to irrigate my plugged ear was rough and condescending - when I informed him that the irrigation had caused an acute bout of vertigo and that the room was literally spinning, he had zero bedside manner and essentially was gaslighting me. He sat me straight up and left me alone (hello, fall risk) while extremely dizzy. When the room finally stopped spinning, I noticed a bloodied piece of gauze on the floor from a previous patient. So not only is the staff rude, the clinic is also dirty. Avoid. Zero stars. read more

.... They continually improve on their service.It seems. I have twins that are nine years old with adhd ( so assume what can be implied, just from that sentence). I have chronic Sinus problems. (Again, refer to the above parentheses!) Not only are they patient, they care so much about your way and version of living.They take the time to figure out the real problems has based on your personal family dynamics, living style, everything.. I have never had a problem with billing. Everything is explicitly told to you.I kno and they have taken the time to print out everything and relay it to your primary care Dr for follow up. Thank you. Avoid Sutter like your health depends on it. There is a lottery system for appointments. You have to call at 8am and try to get one before they run out. Nothing is ever available online. If you miss your chance you go without medical care, they tell you to try again tomorrow or complain to patient relations. I've talked to patient relations, they don't care. read more

The male medical receptionist, nurses, X-Ray techs and doctor were friendly and professional. I'm still amazed at how smooth everything was--from the check in process to triage. I requested a copy of the X-ray and received it as I was walking out the door. I forgot to get a doctor's excuse note and was able to speak to the same male front desk within a minute. Called again in the afternoon and got through again. When he transferred me to the nurse, she was quick to make changes to the note and I was able to pick it up on the same day. I had a frustrating experience at this urgent care facility. Despite an empty waiting room, the wait was unnecessarily long. The staffing needs to be improved to better accommodate patients. They do not take appointments over the phone for some reason, so if online spots are not available, you are out of luck. Walk-ins are completely out of luck. I suggest improving staffing and long wait times. Providing appointments over the phone in addition to online would greatly benefit patients and improve the overall experience. read more

Very pleasant experience. Everyone was nice and efficient which is a very important when you're in need of Urgent Care. I went on a Sunday and so fortunately there were parking slots available right outside. Also, it wasn't busy so I was given an appointment within 2 hours. Most important thing is that EVERYBODY- from the person that checks you in, to the nurse that gets your vitals to the final doctor - were all so accommodating. I came here due to calf pain after recent travel and worried it could be a blood clot. My PCP could not see me for over a week. While I did have to wait about 20 minutes or so for the doctor, Dr. Bajwa was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. Dr. Bajwa was very friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and took all the time in the world to answer my questions and discuss treatment options with me. I can honestly not Dr. Bajwa enough. As a scientist, I had a lot of very specific and detailed questions, and she was more than willing to answer all of them. Even after I left, she took the time to look into results and treatment options and ensure I was satisfied with everything, even calling and answering emails. Called them to ask for help to re-schedule a blood work cuz they called me 30 min before the closest lab closed, the front desk lady kept telling me, "I won't be able to help with that." Despite an empty waiting room, providing insurance information, and reporting symptoms of headache, fever, and chills caused by a tick embedded in my back, I waited over an hour at Sutter Urgent Care only to be told by the receptionist to make an appointment to come back the next day. With those symptoms worsening, which made me a danger to other drivers and myself, I then had to look for another urgent care center. In the time I was at Sutter Urgent Care, also without being seen by a medical practitioner, three out of four walk-in patients were told by the Sutter Urgent Care receptionists to go to Mills ER on Trousdale, miles away. If Urgent Care is supposed to assist in diverting patients away from ER, this facility is doing the exact opposite. Go to Dignity Urgent Care on Gellert in Daly City or go directly to the ER if necessary. read more

On June 12, 2024 I made an appointment and visited their Urgent Care department for a simple case of dysentery. (I'd just returned from a Rotary humanitarian trip to Guatemala). At the front desk the receptionist told me that the visit would be $257, payable now. At my regular doctor's office, they charge me $150 when I pay up front, but I thought this reasonable for Urgent Care. The 15 minute office visit was just fine, and I didn't have to wait long to see the doctor as I'd made an appointment in advance. However, billing was a whole different experience! Boy, was I surprised when a few weeks later, I received a bill for $717 (for my 15 minute visit with their staff and a few parasite tests). The lab bill from Quest Labs was a separate bill for $195.50, which I paid Quest Labs immediately Total visit: $912.50! This was price gouging, pure and simple. I have Medicare Part A but not Part B for office visits. I obtained the CPT codes which Sutter had billed me, and when I called Medicare, they said that the maximum they would have allowed for the office visit portion of the visit was $231. I'd already paid $257 at the Urgent Care desk when I checked in. After multiple emails and calls over a 2 month period, Sutter did reduce the office visit portion to the $257 which I'd already paid and which the receptionist said would be the fee for my office visit at the time I was there. Now for the past 2 months I've called and emailed Sutter's billing department multiple times, and I'm totally frustrated about the lab portion of the visit. They still say I owe $270 for lab, even though I long ago paid the lab bill I received from Quest Labs for $195.50. Many times I've asked them, what service did they provide for that $270??? I've received no answers whatsoever. When I asked Medicare what they would have allowed for the CPT codes for lab they said the codes "are not listed in our database". Throughout all this time and effort on my part and "reviews" which Sutter keeps saying may take 30-60 days, I receive past due notices continually and just received a notice that they're sending me to a collections agency if I don't pay. I wish I could give them "Zero stars" for a review! read more

These guys are amazing! I'm a critical Care RN and there was no way I was going to the ED for a twisted ankle. So I waited until Monday (didn't know they were open on the weekend! ) called them and they gave me a time slot just an hour or so from the call. Drive down and the I take was super quick, seeing the doctor was fast! She was very capable and got right to the problem, ordered an. Ray to verify--this was all SO MUCH faster than an ER trip (where, unless you are in serious life threatening state you wait for hours and hours!) why would anyone go anywhere else? A++ read more

Unfortunately I had to make a visit here to the Urgent Care twice within the last couple of months each time I was treated with respect and kindness from everyone I encountered I was treated like a patient should be treated and am very happy with the care I received each time I especially would like to give a thumbs up to Monica AKA the gentle giant as she called herself. She was very gentle with a painful injury I had on my leg and she wrapped me up so gentle that I did. Wow, love love love this place. My first here, on a weekend morning when I couldn't wait till Monday to make an appt. With the Dr., and that would've been hard to get into, likely would've had to was it for days. We walked in here, but before we did, we called and a live person actually answered, was super courteous and helpful, told us there was a short wait time, and we hooved it there. Sure enough, we had the option to either make an appt. With them for two hours later, or wait and hope we got it sooner. We opted for the latter and waited. Sooner than two hours later, we were ushered in and checked in by a nurse, who did the vitals and other essential medical history stuff. Later, we were called in and I saw Dr. Jeanine Rigal Gore, MD. She was an absolute rockstar! I cannot heap enough superlatives for her care and thoroughness. Not only did she prescribe something that worked, but upon learning that we had a very busy upcoming week of wedding preparation/festivities happening, she changed the rx., to something she thought would work faster, and gave me the option that if my insurance didn't cover it, I could call the phone number and request to default to the original rx., Turns out, the more powerful rx., set me back all of $10. I was incredibly impressed with this Urgent Care, not only is it convenient, but the care I got from Dr. Rigal Gore was top notch--she was efficient, on the ball and not at all phoning it in,, didn't make light of my plight and didn't minimize it (despite I'm convinced she sees an external ear infection everyday :-) Parking is plentiful, both in the basement and in the above lot, with some departments offering validated discount rates, and the entrance is off California Drive, centrally located. She took it seriously and to boot, has a very pleasing and pleasant friendly demeanor. Thank-you, Dr. Gore! read more

Sutter Urgent Care was my savior, after being turned away by 2 other Urgent Care providers nearby. I chose which ones to visit first based on having better reviews on Google and was a bit reluctant to come here, as their review ratings were not that great compared to other places. I was so pleasantly surprised to know that I should have came here first. The front desk staff was very helpful in providing me directions on how to check myself in (they have COVID precautions and take your information over the phone - I was asked to give them a call from the parking lot, which I happily did), and let me in to the waiting area. I was helped by two nurses and a doctor, all of whom were very helpful, knowledgeable, professional, and very friendly. When medical care providers have got not-so-good reviews their staffs tend to be unfriendly and unhelpful, but I was again pleasantly surprised (and felt relieved) that all of their staffs I met here were very, very friendly and extremely helpful. I was able to get everything I needed, and some very helpful tips for the care of my wound. Thank you all for being open late in the evening, and for providing me with superb care. read more

My Primary Care Provider suggested I make a same day appointment at Sutter Urgent Care in San Mateo for evaluation of my wrist injury from a fall. The urgent care center is located in the former Mills Hospital ER and has free parking. Dr. Ben Weia and the nursing and Xray staff provided excellent streamlined care. I was seen on a Friday afternoon, diagnosed with a fracture, fitted with a temporary splint, and have an appointment three days later with a orthopedic hand specialist MD. read more

This place is an absolute disgrace to the name "health care provider." My insurance is out-of-state, so I'd have to pay for x-rays to diagnose the injury I suffered. Understandable. But I try to ask how much the examination and/or x-rays would be, and the receptionist claims to be unable to provide the answer. So I call billing, and that department says it can provide me with the information, but only if I can provide the billing code, which again the urgent care receptionist claims to be unable to provide. So essentially this place wants me to provide a blank check to get a couple of x-rays. Sutter Urgent Care: "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" health care. read more

I'm not sure how some people are having negative experiences here and I can only speak for myself, but my trip to urgent care was quick, easy, and the staff was exceptional. I was worried about the new Covid regulations and if that would make my wait time longer, but the only extra requirements was a nurse taking my temperature at the entrance of the hospital and giving myself and other new patients a fresh mask. I made an appointment a couple hours before I visited here, but I'm not sure if that was even necessary since there was no one in the urgent care waiting room on a Thursday morning. There is free valet parking, which was very convenient since I had to drive myself. Overall, I was in an out of urgent care in less than 1 hour. The doctor who saw me immediately prescribed antihistamines for my allergic reaction, and I got to pick up my medication soon after I left sutter health. Obviously going to urgent care is no ones ideal day, but I am very impressed about how I was taken care of here and I would highly recommend. read more

Sutter has the worst system possible for urgent care. They do not provide walk in service. You have to go to their site 12 hours in advance. There are no appointments available so it is a waste of time. If you get a hold of someone they are no help. This is not urgent care. read more

I booked an appointment and when I got there the entrance was blocked off and they had a sign asking you to call a number to talk to a staff member to be escorted in. That seems reasonable for covid precautions but when nobody answers the phone and there are bunch of other people in the parking lot trying to get through as well, this leads to a very poor customer experience, especially since other places let you just walk in as well. I brought my son in for an urgent care matter today on a Sunday afternoon visit. Everyone from the front desk staff through the medical personnel were very professional and attentive. We were told that the wait would be about 45 minutes but he was called in after only a 15 minute wait. I would have given 5 stars for this visit as well as similar visits from my wife and I but I have one complaint. The front desk is very near the waiting area. Sound carries easily to everyone in the room. It is very awkward to discuss personal or embarrassing information at the check in desk. It would be nice if the hospital would install sound proof partitions or have the patients state the reason for the visit directly to the triage nurse. read more
