Care was good, put they took a partial payment stating that they couldn't do the coloscopy if I didn't prepay, which was weird, because my insurance paid for the whole thing. It has now been two months and I can't get our partial payment back, even though they continue to say it is on it's way. Don't prepay make them do there job and contact your insurance to prequalify. read more

Billing department is a major scam. They billed Medicare, and Medicare responded to the insurance claim. Then our supplement plan kicked in to pay the 20% not covered by Medicare. So the entire bill was already taken care of by insurance. 3 months later, we get a bill for $1245 for Anesthesia. I had to dig through medical bills to double check that our insurance plans have covered the charge. read more

I recently had a procedure at Mid Peninsula Endoscopy Center and the level of customer service was amazing. I was greeted by the Front Desk with empathy. Ana is wonderful. Her smile and professional demeanor is welcoming. She understood how I was feeling in order to prepare for my procedure; she provided me the necessary paperwork to fill out and took me in right away. The staff inside was informative as well. All of them personable and professional. I felt safe and taken care of. This type of attention is rare to find now-a-days but I am Thankful to Dr. Anne Thai for having such a wonderful team. The actual colonoscopy and procedure was fine as were the care given on the day. However, here's where the rating comes from, and the headaches that have ensued. We have very good insurance. We confirmed that this facility and provider are in-network. However, a month after the procedure, we start getting bills from Envison Physician Services/Medical Anesthesia Consultants, because the Anesthesiologist is an independent 3rd party hired by this facility to provide these services. Sutter/Mid-peninsula Endoscopy takes the position that they are not responsible for the actions or business practices of this "consultant" they hired. So basically this boils down to: Our insurance pays the bills of everyone, including Envison, as in-Network, and informs us that it is not allowed for any of these providers they have paid to bill us anything further. We have further spoken to Envison five times since then, since they keep billing us, and they (their customer service agent) tells us to ignore the bill if Insurance says it is taken care of. They have now turned us over to a Debt Collector, that we of course are now having to dispute. FYI, we usually use PAMF/Sutter, and it wasn't clear upfront that this Sutter facility is not part of PAMF and bills using different providers. For the record, no issues with the other colonoscopy (different family member) procedure or billing at the PAMF facilty in San Carlos, and whose billing office is very good at connecting with insurance and resolving any issues. read more

My review is long overdue as my procedure was the first week of December 2018. From start to finish I had an A+ experience. After my appointment was concerned Mid Peninsula Endoscopy Center (MPEC) actually called my pharmacy to order the SUPPREP. The day before the procedure they called and did a brief intake. Since I am unfamiliar with the prior location my review is on the new location which I found very nice. What surprised me was once I was checked in I was brought into what looked like a hospital area. Even more impressive is that I had my own area. Throughout the procedure I was treated with dignity and respect. From the nursing staff to the anesthesiologist, to Dr. Thai, for such an uncomfortable procedure, they made it easier. Nor did I ever feel rushed and that I was just a number. To top things off Dr. Thai herself called me with the results a week later. A big thank you to MPEC. read more

If reviews had headlines, this would read, " A Pleasant Place for Unpleasant Business." Was referred here for my second age-based routine colonoscopy. My GI doc, Ernie Ribera, is among a coterie of interventional gastroenterologists who perform upper endoscopies, colonoscopies, and whatever else they do, here. It's a sleek, spacious place with the structure, features and feel of an outpatient surgery center. (My first colonoscopy a decade ago was done in a much more cramped, old-fashioned office.) The clinical staff seems to understand that most patients (myself included) show up exhausted from a day of fasting and unpleasant "prep," and anxious about a notoriously unpleasant procedure. Things move fast--in my case, checked in, prepped and rolled into the procedure room in 40 minutes--but the nurses are communicative, friendly and supportive. (One patiently laughed at all of my really corny nervous-jokes.) Everything seems tightly organized, smoothly run and legitimately patient-centered. I was heading home 3 hours after I arrived. One material quibble, which cost them a 5th star: unlike surgery centers, visitors are not permitted inside the pre/post procedure area. That means all post-procedure findings and instructions from the doctor and staff are shared with forgetful patients still loopy from IV sedation. (Trust me, even "light sedation" makes you forgetful for several hours.) The center seems amply roomy for one visitor per patient, and the pre-procedure process seems no different than outpatient surgery, where at least one visitor always is admitted. Don't get it. JUNE 2020 UPDATE: just had a follow up procedure that was delayed due to temporary #COVID19 shutdown. I'm elevating my rating from 4 to 5 stars; the center is doing a great job addressing distancing, hygiene and protection of patients and the team. In particular, they are stretching out scheduled procedures so as to provide more time to sterilize all patient areas. (The receptionist must've wiped down the area where we interacted five times in the 15 minutes I was waiting to be admitted.) Beyond that, I am continually impressed by the professionalism of the place. From reception to pre-procedure to the ... event ... to recovery and discharge, this is a group of graceful, patient, caring GI experts. One thing I forgot to mention in prior reviews is that sedation is managed by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Top-drawer care. If you need specialized GI endoscopic care and your insurance allows, this is an outstanding option. read more

Absolutely incredible experience from beginning to end. Preop and procedure nurse Sheena was fantastic and efficient. Anesthesiologist Dr. Moe and Gastroenterologist Dr. Verghese were superb. Went there for an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. I was having GI issues and food intolerances. I had the best experience. They were so nice and caring. The anesthesiologist texted me the night before to tell me that she would be there to make me as comfortable as possible. She was there when I woke up as well. All the health professionals were so kind, caring and patient. I was very anxious because this was not a routine colonoscopy for me but they answered all my questions. My doctor's picked this place as it's in her office building, is quite the endoscopy mill and setup to handle her gi patients. I got a few informational calls about what to expect, the cost, etc., all greatly appreciated. When I got there promptly on time, I felt rushed thru the paperwork, a bit dismissed by the lady in charge, and don't even think about being given time to read the "sign your life away" documentation they have you sign before you get setup for the doctor. Even my bf was drilled about what time he would be there to pick me up, the exact color of his car and phone number. Whew, got that thru. Then I was asked to disrobe and get onto the pre- and post-treatment bed. No sooner was a changed than 3-4 people descended onto me with tons of questions about my treatment, health and the like. One guy was snapping gum, clearly had had too much caffeine and was shooting questions at my while another was sticking sensors all over me, pulling my hair and the process and another was trying to put in an IV. I don't know about you, but when you are getting "prepped" like that you, don't want to answer important health questions. Maybe the place should look into taking info, then sticking, probing and manipulating you. I had this test in the hospital about a year ago, and nothing like this happened to me. It was as sedate as possible, as it should be, when you are scared going into a facility for an important medical test. I will be asking my doctor and informing her that this place wasn't great for me. Especially since their "order" for the testing was wrong and they kept acting like it was my fault instead of looking at the doctor's test orders (like I suggested repeatedly). read more

I cannot say enough superlatives about the staff and medical personnel and Doctors at the Endoscopy Center which is affiliated with Sutter Health. The facility is fabulous but what really impresses is the efficiency and kindness of the wonderful staff. From the moment one makes and appointment, the communication and support prior to any procedure is professional and thoughtful and thorough. I had a routine colonoscopy and any anxiety I had, melted away from my first contact with the wonderful assistants at reception in the lovely and meticulous waiting room, to the nurse who took me to my bed to prepare. Even the music was great while I waited. Everyone asked how I was and offered warm blankets. The nurses were wonderful and the IV insertion didn't hurt at all. I didn't even get a bruise afterward like I have in other medical settings. The anesthesiologist was WONDERFUL! Dr. Lee performed the procedure and explained everything afterward. They helped me dress and get ready for my ride home (more cozy warm blankets in the meantime). If it hadn't been a medical procedure , I would have felt like it was a spa day! Watch out, they charge my credit card over $1500.00. In April, I check in at the front desk. Provided them with Insurance card, they advise me that I didn't meet my 1400.00 deductible. I advise them met it back in January, when I had heart test over 1600.00. I ask them to call the insurance company to verified and they refused. Also advise if I didn't pay up front they won't let me take the test. End of May, called billing ask why they didn't file a claim with insurance company, bill department advise still needed sine information from the office, and I should get a refund on my credit card in about Two weeks. Check Blue Cross website, no claim file and credit back on my card. Made another called two weeks later to billing, they advise stilling waiting to get more information so they can file the claim. My wife had the same procedure done two weeks after me, never ask for money up front. I'm going to the local TV stations consumer and ask them to investigate. read more

This is their new location, the old one no longer in San Mateo, and these new digs are far better: modern, sleek, spacious, private curtained mini 'rooms,' quieter. The exterior belies the interior: after I was hooked with the IV, they wheeled me through a set of doors, mysterious in itself cuz I had no idea there was more to this than the front-end office. But there I was staring into a long cream walled corridor, more doors upon doors--it's a mini hospital (btw, there's a direct entrance to the parking lot, where they put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me out to the car--standard policy. Went in for a colonoscopy, and was blown away by everybody--friendly, warm, and solicitous. Days beforehand, someone from their facility called, having made the necessary inquiries with my insurance, and let me know exactly how much I'd be paying out of pocket. Super impressed with their proactive efficiency, and such a refreshing change from me having to do all the legwork; they handled all the bureaucratic stuff. I did not have to wait at all, they called me in exactly at my appt time, one nurse put in my IV, very expert with my sorry excuse of tiny a vein, another nurse noted all my vitals and still yet another nurse reviewed my list of meds. They worked in tandem, riffing off each other in symphony with good humor, no matter it was barely 7:am! They were incredibly attentive and not phoning it in, e.g. asking if I wanted an extra blanket, etc. And they definitely were on the ball reiterating for me that I wanted no fentanyl, only versed and benadryl. And then my amazing witch doctor comes in, Anne Thai, "witch" in the sense that she's a true wizard and makes something like this as painless and breezy as possible. After the procedure, I hung out on the bed, which they also make comfortable to do, not rushing, until Dr. Thai comes in to chat about the results. The prep is awful as everyone says, or maybe more awful, but the procedure itself is a piece of cake. Everyone was very nice and professional, and my nurse Connie made me feel comfortable the second I met her. During the procedure you don't feel a thing, or feel any anxiety, even if you wake up enough to see the screen/procedure in process. I tend to get nauseated after anesthesia and this was no exception so I wish there had been ginger ale available- orange juice is the worst thing for nausea. Otherwise I highly recommend this center. A couple tips for prep which they did not mention but I read online: use a straw to get the drink past your tastebuds, and suck on a lemon wedge before each long sip. read more

After hitting the fabulous 50 birthday mark, it was time for my first endoscopy testing. I chose Mid-Peninsula endoscopy center due to their wonderful reputation. I was able to get in within a month (plenty of time to think about what I was eating!) and after a thorough and friendly pre-appointment with the very knowledgable Dr. Ribera, I was able to schedule a Saturday appointment for a colonoscopy that started at the very reasonable hour of 9:30 am. The staff took me right in and explained the procedure. It was very comfortable in the center and every detail including warm blankets, was provided. One important note! They use the safe anesthesia and state of the art equipment. The friendly, knowledgable staff was caring and helpful upon conclusion of the procedure. I would highly recommend the center and Dr. Ribera. He and the professional, caring staff made the experience easy and comfortable. read more

I went here as part of a program called Colonoscopy Assist. I found the experience delightful. Well, maybe because drinking prep the previous 15 hours had made anything looked good. No rush, but efficiently done. Had my paperwork ready when I walked in. After a short wait I was ushered into the facility and changed and prepped for the upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy. The nurse in charge of me was very nice, and in no time I was having my EKG and BP checked and IV insertion. No complications during procedure - I did wake up briefly near the end but that was the cool part as I had a live view of what they were doing. Promptly got put out. Should have kept my mouth shut. Anyway, post procedure was just as nice. They waited for me to wake up and then I got dressed, given a snack and some juice, and wheelchaired out to my ride. Dr. Onuma and the staff had a printout for me of all the major points of interest and I'll be getting biopsy reports soon. VERY professional. Loved them. If I am still in the area I will be back in 3 years. Suggestion. Stay at a local hotel for the prep. I stayed at the Stone Villa Inn. Given Bay Area traffic jams, it's the safest thing to do if you live out of town like I do. read more
