I've spent nearly $1,000 at Millstone Nursery, but after what happened today, I will never return--and I strongly warn others to stay away. About three weeks ago, I purchased a tree-form David Austin rose from this nursery for nearly $100. The day I brought it home, I noticed early signs of black spot disease on several leaves. I immediately planted it in a high-quality grow bag, pruned the diseased foliage, and treated it with copper fungicide. I've cared for it meticulously ever since. Despite all efforts, the rose continued to deteriorate--no new growth, no viable buds, and even some grafted stems fell off, clearly indicating structural and physiological issues with the plant. This was not caused by neglect. It was a sick plant from the start. Today I brought it back to the nursery--not to demand, but to request help or even a replacement. What I received was hostility. The owner told me that "bringing back plants like this could kill everything in our nursery," and insisted I take it away immediately. She literally told me "don't bring it inside, take it away, you're going to contaminate us." We were treated as if we were carrying biological weapons, not seeking a fair resolution. When I pointed out that the plant had shown signs of disease almost immediately, I was told "all our plants are guaranteed disease-free," and that any issue must be "your fault, because you planted it." I was also told that unless they had planted the rose for me, they offered no guarantee or support whatsoever. This is not how responsible nurseries treat loyal customers. Even big box stores like Lowe's and Home Depot offer a 1-year plant guarantee--Millstone, by contrast, hides behind a "Final Sale" policy while pushing diseased plants at premium prices, then refuses to take accountability when problems arise. I love gardening. I treat my plants with care, knowledge, and deep respect. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect honesty and basic decency. What I got instead was arrogance, evasion, and disrespect. Avoid this place. They sell expensive plants with no accountability, and if anything goes wrong, they'll blame you. If you value your money, your time, and your dignity--go elsewhere. read more

In October 2024 I came to Millstone searching for Leyland Cypress for my yard. They had 6 left in stock, and were getting ready for new inventory, so they gave me a discount. They came out the next day and planted them. Charged me $1,200 just for the planting. That is not what we agreed upon and they lowered it a few hundred. Still roughly $2,000 total. The Nursery Manager was extremely rude and confrontational when I suggested she put things in writing instead of installing bushes and then giving me an invoice that was way out of line from what we discussed. Of the 6 bushes, turns out only 4 were Leyland Cypress, the other two appear to be some kind of Cedar. It is April 2025 now and the two Cedars appear to be dying. In my opinion this place is highly overpriced but in that neighborhood they probably get away with it. And now I have two dying bushes to be removed and need to replace them to match. This place has the most amazing plants. And it's so cute. And the owner is the best. I had questions about a hydrangea I bought and she called the Monrovia rep to see if we could get the questions answered. Everyone that works their is super helpful and knowledgeable...and you don't have to hunt them down. It's seriously one of my favorite places in Memphis. read more

BUYER BEWARE! Very disappointed with this nursery we spent over 1800.00 on two pots with plants and a box plant. They came out to our house and planted the plants and with. 45 days the plants that were 299.00 each were dying. We went back and were told by the owner and one of the other employees to put sugar water on them and if that doesn't work let wait till spring and see if they will rebound and if not bring them back and we will replace them. I was not real comfortable with that but she assured us. So now they are still completely dead and we went over to get new ones and she said there was nothing she could do. And I told her we brought them back before the warranty was over and she LIED and said they did not have warranties and I told her that's not true you gave us a warranty and she said we only warranty if we plant them and I reminded her that they did plant them. Then she tried to blame it in the freeze and said they died because they froze. Once again I told her they were dead before winter even came and we brought them back early September. Then she said it was a drought last summer and if we didn't have sprinklers they will die and then asked if we had sprinklers, and I told her yes we did! Then she said the only thing she would do is give us a discount if we bought new ones and that all she is doing! This is horrific service and a way to tread customers who have spent over 5000.00 worth of plants and were planning on buying more. Never thought this owner and business would lie and be so dishonest. I know this I will never go there again. read more

I am so thankful for the things they are doing during this covid situation. I am pregnant and haven't gone out for anything, but I really wanted to get some lawn stuff done. They are willing to do deliveries or you can set up an appt before or after hours to shop by yourself and pay over the phone to avoid all social interaction. The offerings at Millstone are like no other! The owner, Tricia Hunt, engages each customer and leads a staff of informed plant people. I have a great time every time I go to Millstone and end up spending more than I should because of how well stocked the very well-ordered store and grounds are with rarer and larger bulbs and potted plants. I'm a big fan of hostas and amaryllis, and Millstone's selection is unparalleled. read more

My first review on Yelp ... wish it was a better rating. Heard great things about Millstone so went there to find help with the containers around my pool. The selection is fabulous and most everyone was super nice except someone named Jean or Jenny, she treated me as if I had no taste and if I wasn't going to spend at least few hundred dollars she didn't want to bother with me. The fact is, I can spend a lot more than a couple of hundred but probably don't look like I could (after kids and work out, I was a mess) ... so its back to my landscape guy. I should send him in there to spend a few thousand and really freak her out! Go to Millstone, it really is a nice place ... just steer clear of her, everyone else was polite and helpful. read more

Will never shop here again! I walked in, asked for a specific plant that was listed on Millstone Markets instagram, and showed them the specific post. They told me "we don't have anymore" ok, that's fine. I turned around and saw a table full of that plant. Picked one up, checked out. It was $50. - I paid it. Next stop Home Depot for dirt. Millstone Market is the best place in Memphis for gardening needs/advice - hands down! The family who owns the business is super knowledgeable, kind and helpful. They patiently walked me through planting four large planters myself - special ordering herbs, working with my timeline and showing me the ropes of potting for the Memphis weather. They have an awesome selection of plants, trees, pots and garden decorations, etc. The prices are mostly on par with the big box retailers like Lowes, etc. Plus the grounds are gorgeous! Just opened, but outstanding - especially liked their "Self Sustaining on 1/3 acre" display. Beautiful plants and trees - they work closely with the Botanic garden. The brother & sister owners are very dedicated to everything gardening and very knowledgeable. They organize weekly speakers in spring and fall for free presentations. read more

Let it be known Millstone won't warranty their plants/shrubs. We bought 6 Schip Laurels in which we were assured how hearty of a plant they were. Ok great! Well we bought 3 and then went back a few days later and bought 3 more. The second 3 have all now died, they are planted in various places around the yard at present time and still died. A fourth is already on the way out also. They have slowly been dying from the inside out since we bought them. Andrew tried to give advice which was helpful and appreciated at the time, but nothing worked. Raising them, less water, more water, etc. they were all planted exactly as we were told. $115 each plus all the dirt and everything else they recommended. Well, we are now down to 2 that have survived and this after being lead to believe they were warrantied along with emails saying "we'll help you out if they die", it has now turned into we only warranty if you pay us to plant them, this statement was never mentioned at the sale. If it was, I'd have just went to Lowe's, they'll at least stand by their sale. You try and help out the small business, and then realize what's the benefit? I was informed though later in the year if the ones we've bought are dead, they were having 50% off at the time I called. Because you know, $60 a piece is exactly where I want to spend more of my money on shrubs that'll probably die just like the last ones I bought from you. read more

Paid $1300 for 3 hollies and installation. They neglected to disclose that there was only a 3 month guarantee although their installers didn't dig the holes deep enough which caused them to die. Contacted within 3 months to say they were not dug deep enough and they were starting to die. Took their advice that didn't work. They wouldn't return calls. After a couple more months went by, went in person to let them know the hollies' condition and that's when they advised of the 3 month guarantee and wouldn't do anything about it when it was their installers fault. Told them we were wanting to hire them for complete yard maintenance if they would just make things right and they didn't care. Also bought 3 hydrangeas that took years to even bloom and when they did they were the wrong color. They said they were white when they are purple and pink. They also didn't care when we addressed it. Horrible customer service and won't ever give them our business again. read more

My first visit to this new nursery was on Sunday afternoon. I was really impressed with all of their fountains, large concrete urns and decorative items, as well as a great display of flowers. I was looking for a pot for an orchid that someone just gave me and a very nice lady inside told me how to plant it and take care of it since I know nothing about orchids. It is worth going no matter what gardening need you have. I intend to take advantage of some of their classes also! read more

The day could not have been prettier (hot outside, but beautiful) and I decided to visit various nurseries around town. At Millstone, the selection is okay, and prices, as compared to other nurseries in the tri-state area, are overly inflated. I found myself in the awkward position of being passed from one employee to another. Can you imagine my chagrin? It appears that customer service at Millstone is Orwellian based, as it seems some customers are "more equal" than others. I fear I fall into the "less equal" category, cause girl, I'm an XXL and drive a late model pickup truck. Cigarette smoke (one of my pet peeves) at a nursery or any place of business for that matter is offensive. Please ask the old "girl" with braided hair to put down her cigarettes and have a piece of Wrigley's Double Mint gum. My overall rating for Millstone is one star. The prices, as stated above, are inflated, and customer service earned a "needs improvement" stamp. read more
