We had my mother's 96th Birthday lunch here. The food was excellent with a wide variety of choices even for the vegetarians in the group. everyone was very happy with their meals. They happily accommodated our group of 12 with a reservation for lunch in a separated room and all the food came out at the same time which is often tricky with a larger group. As for the staff, our servers were terrific, efficient and friendly. Prior to the day Robert replied to emailed questions very quickly and made the whole event very stress free. We came here for the Reuben and were not disappointed! Thankfully we decided to split the sandwich (with fries) and added the Little Gem salad. Wow! What a great combination and great flavours! Plenty enough for lunch for two people. The meat on the Reuben was so juicy and flavourful and the Little Gem salad was amazing. We throughly enjoyed our meal. Such a cute place that I never knew existed!! The service and food was great! My husband had the steak sandwich with fries and I had the Reuben sandwich with fries. If there was a downside I'd say the menu didn't mention lettuce and tomatoe in the steak sandwich and the reuben didn't mention lettuce in the sandwich. We would've opted out of those while ordering. All very delicious though!! We will definitely be back to try other items. read more

Cute! Drove right past this place as we didn't realize it was in an actual house. Had a really nice lunch here this afternoon. It had such cozy atmosphere being in an original old home. Definitely this is Nanaimo's sweet spot. The city is lucky to have a little restaurant with such great ambience, great cocktails and wine and fine food. I have visited twice, and the second time it was just a wonderful watering hole between a wedding reception, to fill the gap while photos were being taken and the reception would begin. This place was a stop we decided to make whilst driving through Nanaimo on an impromptu trip, and were we glad we did. Situated in a literal house on Milton Street, space to sit was limited. We joined them for lunch and even though we didn't have a reservation, they made it a point to accommodate our party of five anyway, and they were very pleasant all the way. The food was superb, the spaghetti and meatballs were a hit. Just the right amount of spice. The lady that waited on us was also very attentive to our kids and she was very gracious throughout our dining experience. After numerous trips here, it hasn't let me down. Milton Street Public House is really a fantastic find in Nanaimo! The food I've tried so far has all been excelllent. Standouts for me have been the Pork Crackling appie, the Milton Burger, the cannelloni, the totally addictive parmesan fries, and any of the salads. And the house-made falafel is off the chart! The falafel wrap with lettuce and a spicy tahini-based dressing is great, as is the veggie burger, which is perhaps the best I've had. Prices are average for an upscale pub, but when one considers the quality of the food they are producing, it's actually a good deal. What separates Milton Street from the huge majority of other pubs and restaurants is the obvious pride they take in what they put in front of the customer - this is honest food done right! A decent beer selection that includes a rotating tap, the ubiquitous Fat Tug IPA, Phillips Blue Buck and Phoenix Gold, plus one or two others that I can't recall. They also have a good selection of local craft beer bombers, plus a nice little selection of wines and cocktails. And on the last Wednesday of the month, they have a special cask ale from Nanaimo's Longwood Brewery. Service is friendly, but it can be very slow, and this alone stops a full five star rating. Waits of fifteen to twenty minutes have happened too frequently of late, and this is something the owners need to sort out. Recommended, but be prepared for slow service. read more

i went to the Milton house pub last night for the first time. The pub has received a glowing review in Eat Nanaimo. I was expecting the normal type of pub. That was not the case. It was a million miles away from a typical pub. First it is a charming old house. They asked if we had a reservation and we of course didnt have to make a reservation at a normal pub. Fortunately they had a table for us. The other guests looked professional. They probably sell more wine than beer. We ordered caronara and roast chicked diners. They both were excellent. The sevice was impeccable. It was a lovely evening. I think the restaurant is misnamed. I think it should just be called Milton House. I am disabled and would appreciate a handrail on two lower steps. read more

What a find. It mimics an English style pub and does it well. We stopped for lunch, chose a window table, ordered a shandy each and settled for a Ruben sandwich with side salad. The sandwich was sensational. The salad was exceptional and the whole thing came in at a bargain price. Apart from being a charming little pub, it has an endearing style and character that makes it quite unique. The service was also very good and that was amazing given that it was all provided by a young bloke with a ready smile and helpful attitude who alternately greeted newcomers, served behind the bar, cleaned the tables, seated patrons, took their orders, brought out the food, served drinks to the tables, acted as cashier and kept busy tending to everyone's needs. Rarely do I offer 5 stars, but this place deserves them all. Finally a word to the boss, your solo daytime staff member is a gem. Give him a raise. read more

This place is an old house with a outside seating and a couple of rooms inside. I really liked the atmosphere. The staff seem overworked but once you are seated they take good care of you. I had the carbonara. The pasta was cooked correctly as in al dente and not mush. It was very good. I would definitely go back and take people with me. I had the brownie with ice-cream and chocolate mouse for desert. Also excellent. The only negative was something I saw when leaving. Their parking lot only has room for 10 or so cars. A staff member drove in and parked and walked into the kitchen. Parking in a lot that small should be for customers. read more

For appetizers we had the Korean wings and calamari, which were both amazing! I had the Reuben and my only complaint was that I need a bigger mouth to take bigger bites. Delicious food and cozy atmosphere. Friendly service as well. You've heard of many of the dishes they serve but they add a little something different to them. For example, I had the caprese sandwich and it had pesto made with cashews instead of pine nuts. This sandwich had such great flavor as did my husband's fish and chips made with red snapper. What a lovely gem this place is! After blustering up from Victoria, we happened in and felt lucky to have done so. To start, I had a dog day afternoon cocktail (absinthe, rye, and ginger beer with lemon) and my wife the house rosé. For the food, we went all over the place. To start, the watermelon and cucumber salad with a bit of chevre was perfect for a hot summer's day. Next up was the calamari served on a bed of Sriracha aioli and pickled onions which disappeared quickly. Next was an interjection of Millstone Pinot noir from down the road followed by the mains: mushroom flatbread and venison hot dog. At the end of the day, is North Americans really just want a hot dog and pizza. Unfortunately we were too gorged to try the tobacco crème brûlée, so I guess we'll just have to come back the next time Nanaimo calls us from across the Malahat. read more

We decided to check this place out based on the good reviews so far and we were very pleased!!! The pork rinds were so crunchy and amazing and light and fluffy with a very pleasant mustard sauce that even a mustard hater would love. The burger was absolutely delicious and it was cooked and presented beautifully with a great fresh side salad. We split the burger and rinds as were weren't overly hungry and they even plated it separately for us without asking. The place has a great atmosphere and we sat at the bar which is nice and cozy. We will definitely be back soon! It now goes on our favourite list for Nanaimo. read more

We went early because we had our 6 year old with us and it was still busy. The menu isn't huge but the three of us were able to order things we knew we would like. The pasta that my daughter and I ordered was perfect! And I will be honest, the burger my husband had was amazing. The service was great and I loved how fantastic they were with my daughter even though she was the only child in there. Even the people around us were great with us having her there (and lots of people aren't!!). I will be back as much as possible. read more

You can tell that the chef puts a lot of love in the food. Best cream of mushroom soup. The dinner feature is always delicious.
