Definitely a let down. Menu looked decent so decided to give it a try. Things didn't start well and sadly didn't get better as the night went on. Took way too long from when we got seated until we got menus, we were in a section that clearly wasn't in the staffs line of sight. After finally placing out drink orders we waited again for over 15m before we got them. And these weren't cocktails that needed mixing. Placed our orders and thankfully they came in a reasonable time. Had the seared cod, decent just could have been a slightly bigger portion. Daughter had the butter chicken, not a whole lot of chicken and lacking spice. Because of where we were the intervals between seeing a server were too long and made for below average service. Not what I would expect from Ti-Na-Mara. Would I go back? Probably not. read more

It's rarely a good sign when the host staff and the wait staff are openly arguing. And it sure wasn't this time. Took a full 10 minutes to get even our coffee order in (we ordered food at the same time as a precaution). I got the pancakes, with strawberries, and two eggs ordered over easy. The pancakes and eggs arrived. With no syrup. Or butter. Or strawberries. The eggs were sunny side up and the yolks were over hard. Which means that the egg whites were like shoe leather. Syrup, butter, and strawberries arrived nearly 5 minutes later (not all at once, I was able to stare at the syrup before getting the other two). The pancakes were overcooked and dry. About the only good thing I can say is that they didn't charge me for the strawberries after I had to ask for them twice. This is resort hotel dining? Hotel and spa are awesome but go somewhere, ANYWHERE besides here to eat. read more

Adding 16 hours later....... On top of all the below one us ended up with what looks like food poisoning from the beef dip in the middle of the night, totally added salt to the injury. All in all, spa and resort is great, the regular staff are great, but stay AWAY from cedars restaurant at all costs!!!! Management does not seem to care and obviously there are some quality/safety issues with food handling. The resort is great, spa is good. All the staff for the most part are good and helpful. I stay often, but I have an issue with management. My issue; we had reservations for 5:00 pm for dinner. We arrived 15 min early and the hostess seated us right away. The server was good and took our order pretty quickly. We noticed the restaurant was pretty much empty (it was still a bit early for dinner). We were served our drinks and then our food pretty quickly. Food was ok, nothing great, but ok. We decided to skip desert and come back later in the evening after our spa visit to order it. We paid our bill and were viewing some of the paintings they sell in the restaurant by a local artist, considering purchasing a couple of them. Then a woman i believe by the name Leslie (i have to assume a manager or head server) came to our table within a few minutes of paying our bill and asked us to move to the lounge as our table was reserved by other guests. It was 5:35 (35 minutes after our reservation time) she told us we were welcome to sit in the lounge. The restaurant was mostly empty. We were taken off guard and were planning to leave within 5-10 min anyways, so we got up and left. I decided as this was not the way customer service should be and so i decided to make a formal complaint at front desk. Gentleman was apologetic and very understanding, he left a message for a manager to contact us. Later that night we got back to our room only to see an email message from a manager justifying what this sub manager had done. This place needs an overhaul of managers! Never in my life have i seen such poor dealings with a customer complaint. This is completely unacceptable and i expect more from this place. I am somewhat local and spend much time here but will reconsider for next time! If that specific table was reserved for other guests they should have sat us at any of the other 50 tables in the place. The biggest issue is management has no understanding on what or how customer service works! Update 5 days later: Whats sad about this is we come here all the time. On the day we checked out, they credited us the last day since we were leaving early and checking out at 11:00 am. They made promises that they were going to investigate and get back to us. Its been 5 days and I've heard nothing. Im not expecting any sorts of compensation as i told the manager on the day we left. I do want an apology from the kitchen mgr that started this whole fiasco. A very disappointing birthday brunch on Easter morning when we were expecting so much more at $60 a person for their 'tapas' style menu. At what we thought was a classy place, the greeter at this expensive restaurant wore bunny ears - very unprofessional looking. You should know that as you order a few small plates, as soon as you get them you should order again as the wait was over half an hour for the next batch, which we weren't told. We were told to "flag down" our server to get more coffee. Everything looked and tasted like it had been under a heat lamp for a long time. Everything about the eggs Benedict was overcooked, the meats were dried out, the pasta was like rubber, the buttermilk chicken was very dry, the shrimp had soaked up the tomato juice it was sitting in and was soggy, and their deep fryer for the bacon and chicken obviously needed to have the oil changed. I was told when booking the reservation as a birthday, that they would help us celebrate - they did absolutely nothing. We were there for hours and we weren't the only unhappy people there. There was another larger table about 6 tables away that we could hear complaining. There was a French fry next to me on the window sill which was obviously left from the night before. Three different servers dropped various cutlery items onto the floor near our table. We left and said nothing about our experience, but a week later now I decided to write about it. We have stayed there, done the dip and dine, been there for dinner and breakfast and expected so much more. I don't think we'll ever go back after this as something has drastically changed. read more

my husband and I stayed at Tigh Na Mara for our honeymoon and had heard great things about Cedars. Of course due to COVID health regulations, we could only order takeout but the food was still INCREDIBLE. The first night we ordered their Land and Sea platter which comes with salmon, buttermilk fried chicken, slow cooked beef, potato gnocchi, carrots, brioche buns, and mashed potatoes. Every single item was a dream and cooked to perfection- I'm drooling just thinking about it again. The gnocchi's were like a cloud and the beef was so incredibly tender and served with a delicious gravy. It was approx $45/person but worth every penny and we even had leftovers. The next day for lunch we ordered pizza- they have 2 for 1 which is an awesome deal. We had the ham and pineapple and roast beef pizza. The game and pineapple was good with the ham being smoked, and the beef dip pizza was something different... but still really good and served with a gravy like sauce. We would 100% return and recommend Cedars to anyone in the Parksville area and may return next year for our anniversary to hopefully try dining in. read more

At first I was reluctant to eat here because of the other reviews, but I'm glad we gave it a shot. With any entree you order, for an up charge of $15 you can add a starter and dessert to your meal. We were a party of 3 so we shared all 3 of the starters on the menu and 3 desserts. To start we had spinach dip, stuffed mushroom caps, and Caesar salad. I would recommend that everyone order the spinach dip as their starter. The spinach dip was super creamy and served with perfectly toasted pita chips. Our entrees consisted of the Creole Halibut, Bacon wrapped meatloaf, and the striploin steak. The serving of halibut was a little small for its price, and my bacon wrapped meatloaf was a little dry and lacked a bit of flavour in parts of it. Kind of like it wasn't mixed enough? The steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The desserts were so so so good! The cheesecake was creamy and dense like a cheesecake should be. The lemon pavlova was huge, as was the peanut butter pie. Our server Hannah was excellent, and attentive. She's probably 90% of the reason I gave them 5 stars. In all, I would eat here again if I was staying at Tigh Na Mara again, but I think I would skip the meatloaf. read more

Be prepared for a long wait (45-60 mins) and way too much edge crust to topping ratio. Parts of the pizzas didn't have toppings starting until 2"-2.5" from the edge! Major order mix ups - almost walked out with two different pizzas from what I ordered. Crusts themselves were decent even though they were way too prominent. Toppings varied by the pizza. Liked the French dip one with roast beef - quite unique! Overall 3 stars. Would only purchase again with the Monday deal. read more

Ordered the Steak and added prawns for my dinner at Cedars. Prawns were the highlight for sure! Would have given a solid four stars but the steak was overlooked. Not so overcooked that it was worth wasting it. So much food waste at restaurants and I try not to contribute to that. Other components on the dish were good. The location is excellent. This place is beautiful inside - its someplace I can see having a night party or wedding reception in. The service was great. Only giving four stars just because the menu wasn't very extensive. We ordered the seafood fondu. It is baby seafood (scallops, shrimp and crab) in a yummy white cheese sauce served with flat bread for scooping and a couple carrots and celery. It was really good. Our mains were the chicken, peppercorn poutine and the shaved roast beef sandwhich. The poutine was very peppery and yummy. Large portion! My sandwhich was great - it has shaved roast beef, onion and cheese inside and it came with homemade potato chips and your choice of a side - I got the house salad. I think I would go back - hopefully their menu will change and maybe they will add a few more things! read more

Good service, mediocre food at a high price, for what you get. We had the mushroom caps and lamb sliders for appetizers. The mushrooms were ok, but really nothing special. The lamb slides were dry and tasteless. The entrees were the rib gnocchi and the pepper steak, both were good, but the pepper sauce was a little weak. For desert, the bread pudding, mostly bread but ok flavor. Overall, a little disappointing for a restaurant of this price. read more

Do not waste you money on the overpriced food here. Whoever is in the kitchen obviously does not know what they are doing or just doesn't care. We came here for my birthday dinner a couple nights ago and it was a huge disappointment. My mom and I both ordered the scallops. We each received 5 tiny scallops for $34 a plate, and over cooked. I am talking grossly overcooked....tough and disgusting. My son ordered the steak and "prawns." The so-called prawns at Cedars are actually tiny bay shrimp. Stayed at the tighnamara so figured we'd try cedars. I wish I checked the yelp reviews first! The recent mediocre reviews are well deserved. The server and/or kitchen seemed swamped but the section I was in was half empty. Maybe they were short staffed. In any case, I've had friendlier service from fast food restaurants. If you are looking for a mediocre, over-priced night then cedars fits the bill. If you do decide to try it, the skillet bread is good. Hopefully they remember to serve it hot, instead of late and cold like my experience. read more

Stayed at the resort for one night and order to go. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The burger was amazing and so were the fresh vegetables. My only complaint is the white meat on the 1/2 chicken was dry. Would definitely eat here again next time we are in town. read more

The only reason there are two stars is the bartender and the drink was good. The one thing we ordered was trash. The skillet bread, packaged buns places in a skillet with a shred of cheese and olive oil, not even butter like it was written in the menue. Absolute garbage. read more

I wrote most of this info below in response to a request Cedars sent asking me to assess my 2017 Christmas dinner dining experience.... Is there a place to put minus stars for food... and your pre-service, service (booking)...??? Long story, but deeply unimpressive.... We were told, and expected it was to be a buffet... got there to discover it was a less-than-impressive 4 course meal. We would have walked out then and there but.... where do you go ... on Christmas night... in Parksville.... without a reservation...at dinner time,,, when you are hungry? There is only one answer: No where!!!! So we decided to stay... and we fully regretted it afterwards. The stuffed mushroom appetizer was good but the two main courses we selected (Turkey and Beef Wellington) where pretty well the worst meals we have ever tasted.... turkey was bland and flavourless and the Beef Wellington was a complete joke...it looked and tasted like stew meat thrown inside pastry. Chef Ramsey would have smashed it into oblivion. We ate everything because we hadn't eaten all day and we were hungry, but it was extremely disappointing..... Especially at $69 per person!!! Oh, and by the way, not offering at least 2 soups, on a minimize menu, when you have to know that half your diners can't stand squash, in any form, is absolutely unacceptable, at the prices you charged for this meal. I do silent shopper assessments for restaurants and if I were doing one for Cedars, it would have received a definite fail grade when it comes to the thing that matters most - the food. Our Server was good. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Since I was staying at the Thai na Mara resort I thought I'd check out Cedars restaurant. It was recommended that it was brand new renovated and suppose to have amazing food so why not right? The decor was nice, ambiance decent now here's when I get into the food part. I went with a couple friends and the water suggested we do the three course meal for $44. You get to choose one appetizer, one main dish one desert. So I'm looking in the section for main meals and it's 75% red meat, the rest was a chicken dish and scallops. I asked if they had anything vegetarian at all as most restaurants do and they said nothing except a Caesar salad so I decided to have a Caesar salad then I asked if they could make an exception and take some prawns and put them on them. So the waiter asks the chef and they did. I ordered the soda bread because they don't offer any normal bread and butter like most restaurants do so the bread came and it was heavy, gross, bland and hard. So I didn't eat it and I took it back to the cabin for my dog. When my salad came, it wasn't tossed, some leaves had too much dressing, some had none. The dressing was so tangy it wasn't that good. I prefer a nice thick creamy Caesar dressing and the prawns tasted like they were frozen prior and also a bit overly fishy in taste. I ordered a martini, it came warm in the glass and I sent it back to get shaken with ice and poured as a martini should so they brought me a new one and it was simply a bad martini so I gave it to my friend and opted out of another drink as well as a desert. The bread was 2/10 the mushroom caps were 7/10 the Caesar salad 5/10 martini 3/10. I will not likely repeat. read more

This restaurant is located on the Tigh-Ma-Mara hotel grounds. Decided to stop in since there was a sign out front stating that kids eat free with the purchase of one adult entree. This is only the case between 5-6 pm. Ordered the 3 course meal for $41 Appetizer: chicken and waffles Entree: black cod with polenta Dessert: cookie with ice cream and spicy linguine with grilled chicken. The spicy linguine was so flavourful and had the right amount of spice. However the grilled chicken was dry and did nothing for the dish, skip the chicken. The chicken and waffles appetizer was massive. It came with three waffles. This was delicious. Cod was cooked well and polenta was rich and creamy. The cookie was delicious. It was served warm in a skillet topped with Vanilla ice cream. My only complaint is that this dessert took 30 minutes to come out and I would've appreciated a warning as we had a young child. The meal took over 2 hours in total so be prepared if you decide on the 3 course. The portions were large , actually too large and we both left feeling stuffed. This restaurant is family friendly. Crayons were provided and the noise level is reasonably loud. read more

Went to the Cedar Room for lunch today. This restaurant is okay but I don't think I will be returning soon. The prices are too high for the quality of the food--and that's not saying much given the prices are not that high ($10/18 for 1/2/1 lb. of muscles, $9 for seafood chowder, $14 for fish tacos). Hostess was on the phone when we arrived and was VERY slow to acknowledge our presence. Waitress was excellent. Tigh-Na-Mara is on such a beautiful property, I wonder why the restaurant doesn't overlook the Strait of Georgia, have a great chef, and have a warm and inviting decor, styled after the resort's beautiful log cabins. Of all the food we ate here today, the only item I would order again would be the seafood chowder -- it was very good. read more

Service was good and i think everyone was pleased with their meals. Mine was kind of simple (a salad with just lettuce and the three scallops i added on) and lacked imagination but tasted good.
