This was our first visit to Lawrence, and we were very pleased with the area. We went looking for a nice breakfast spot, and after every place on Massachusetts had a 20-30 min wait, we went down the side streets and stumbled upon this amazing gem. The wait was literally 3mins, we had excellent service, and our food came quickly. We were very impressed with the speed of service in a packed place on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere was open a airy, and charming and very clean. We loved it so much we came back the next morning. The French toast was so delicious, tasted like it did when I was a child. The menu had tons of delicious options, and the latte was one of the best I have ever had.... I drink a lot of lattes. Highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

Milton's on New Hampshire is the perfect place to start your day, but only if you have an hour to relax before jet-setting to work. The atmosphere is peaceful, clean and inviting---Milton's makeover and relocation was definitely a great choice. I ordered the Milton's Breakfast: two eggs, sausage patties, two pancakes, and a little side of fruit. The eggs and meat were wonderful, but the pancakes were just O.K. (maybe next time I'll add chocolate chips to add more flavor!). The coffee bar continues to be excellent, so coffee-drinkers should not pass this place up. Overall, my experience at Milton's was above average, and earns a top spot on Lawrence's short list of places to brunch. read more

I want to give this 2 stars because the food was decent enough. However, the menu is very small, I almost wouldn't call it a menu. I had the daily special, which tasted okay, but the portion was small. The price tag on my frittata special was $16, add in a cup of coffee and I was pushing over $20 for breakfast, which is quite frankly ridiculous. This place will not stay open long with these prices. Another menu item included a fairly small bowl of granola for $6. I almost thought I was in NYC. Needless to say, will not be back with those prices. read more

Came for brunch on a blustery Sunday; was pretty good! I had been to the previous Milton's...was sad to see a smaller space, but was nice getting to sit outside. There are umbrellas and heating lamps. We came around noon and were seated 20 minutes later. I had the salmon eggs Benedict - very good! Maybe half a potato's worth of potato cubes, probably for the best, but could be disappointing if you are expecting a lot. My main sadness - my friend and I got chais and they were so sweet! I love sugar, but it was a little too sweet without enough spice. I used to get steamers and the old Milton's, but only a handful of syrup flavors here. read more

I love this place. Good food, spectacular lattes & awesome atmosphere. Wasn't a huge fan of the eggs benny when I tried them (they were prepared properly, just not my taste), I've stuck with omelettes or hash plates since. Staff can be hit or miss - my only complaint is always being rushed to leave. During my most recent visit the waitress didn't even bother to ask if I needed anything else before dropping off the check. I was planning on ordering another coffee, but the check was dropped off when I'd only had my food for about 5 minutes. Since it reopened, Milton's has been, in many ways, the best drinking spot in Lawrence. I have made it a point to explore them all, and happy hours in this town are mostly lackluster. Milton's has great happy hours as well as daily drink specials every day. It doesn't have much of a buzz, and it isn't the hippest place in town: because of that, you can get to know the servers on a first name basis, talk to your friends in a quiet restaurant, and not have to wait for service. Only thing I would like to see change is the menu. More non-breakfast items (daily soup? nachos? spicy snacks?) would be great! P.S. Milton's, do you serve pizza? Bad service but good food. I guess that can be pretty typical for a restaurant in a college town. Went back to Lawrence and Milton's for the first time in a while. Had to wait an extra 30 minutes then they had told us. Service was pretty bad altogether as they had to move our table about 3 times. Good eggs benedict and brunch food. They have delicious pancakes and french toast and everything your heart could desire! And the mimosas aren't half bad either. If there were a higher score they'd be so deserving of it! Finally tried the new Loopys/old Milton's yesterday for brunch. Service was apathetic, food was same old Miltons but not great: omelet was dry, biscuits & gravy were okay. I visited Milton's a week or so ago and my experience was fine. I ordered the herb omelet and an iced coffee. The coffee was nice although they don't bring you any sugar or cream to go with it. I realized later that there's a station inside where you can doctor it up yourself, but as I was sitting outside I was unaware of that and my waitress didn't let me know. The omelet came out missing the feta cheese and everything was cold. I let my waitress know and she told me that she doesn't eat omelets so she didn't know if it was supposed to have feta or not. I feel like you should know what you're serving whether or not you would eat it, but she was pleasant enough about it. When my food came out the second time it was both hot and correct. This place isn't anything to write home about, but it's a reasonable place to go for breakfast. read more

On a recent trip back to my old hometown, I was surprised at how thin the choices had become for decent breakfast food in the downtown area. The old, funky places that were still around in the '90s and '00s are gone, and mostly there's quick food for drunk frat boys on Mass Ave, though a few places still try to aim higher. Far and away, Milton's was one of the best breakfast spots - I went there three times and got the Greek omelet on each occasion and was quite pleased. It was yummy, with fresh ingredients and felt like good, healthy fare. Every time I went there I was seated immediately, and though the waiters were just a tiny bit too engaged -- a few too many "how are things?" prompts, which seems to be a problem at many Lawrence restaurants -- but I never felt rushed or unwelcome. The vibe at Milton's has certainly changed. While it was never totally a hippie-retro type place (and there are many still in town, which is nice), the new Milton's is definitely more shiny and pretentious than the original restaurant, and they clearly aspire to be seen as high-end and clean-cut. It is, literally, the place that many KU students take their out-of-town parents to eat -- a few scruffy locals show up, but mostly it's a yuppie place now. I felt a little out of place, but it was worth it for the quality of the food. Honorable mention in this department goes to the hippie-delic Global Cafe, which also had excellent food, though ironically the staff there was a bit unfriendly in comparison. read more

However, after my experience/interaction with the manager/owner, David, today, I'm disappointed to announce that I will NEVER AGAIN patronize this establishment. Maybe they were having a bad day, but had an awful brunch experience. If there is a long wait for food, you need to let your customers know beforehand. We had to wait a full hour before getting our food. Manager was no where to be seen, leaving the waitress to catch flak. I was so hungry had to ask for something to snack in while we waited (something they should have brought out). Finally on to the food. Eggs Benedict were like hard boiled eggs, yolk was completely done. The english muffin was hard and crunchy on the bottom. French toast was not bad. Home fries are ok. Got a mushroom bacon omelet that was decent. Blueberry pancakes was a complete disaster. The thinnest most anemic pancakes I have ever seen, which were UNCOOKED and doughy inside. (Had to get them to remake as they brought out plain pancakes the first time. Still underdone the second time). Ordered a side of bacon that was half burnt. In summary, waited too long for subpar food. Most bothersome was the manager was no where to be seen. read more

Get here early. If you don't expect to wait, but this is true for ANY breakfast spot in Lawrence. Lawrence is a college town so during the school year the breakfast restaurants are pretty packed. It is worth it to get here for before 8 or 9 a.m. seriously. Milton's has all you can drink, serve yourself coffee and it is delicious. So did Dave and crew meet the expectations of a great meal after the closing of Miltons?? Not even close in my humble opinion. The space is nice the design is good but concept is a bit off for Lawrence Ks. This place reminds me of an east or west coast coffee house/ cafe which is good if you live in either location but for Lawrence I just dont see it. The menu is small and very limited with an overwhelming amount of pizza and flatbread which fell way way short of expectations, the crust was chewy and not seasoned and the toppings didnt even cover the top of my slice it was literally more dough than toppings not to mention for a 7 inch pie 8 ,9 or 10.00 is a bit ridiculous whats the cost on a 7 in. pie really? The breakfast menu is horrible I wouldnt even call it breakfast no variety or creativity boring bland and not what you expect going in to eat some breakfast. I am certain The former Miltons employees opening in the old space will crush the competition for great breakfast downtown sure wish they would hurry up and open. Miltons was way way way better than the experience I had at Loopy's. I understand what they are trying to do but good luck making it happen in this town in a space that small with the costs I am certain they acquired with the build out of the space. Will I go back??? Maybe if they come up with a better menu more suited to the area. I know the chefs are talented and could do so much more than they are doing now who knows maybe it will evolve and become something worth talking about but for now I am done talking and dining ..no more words other than good luck, and hope you make it work but you have a ways to go, just my opinion though maybe the masses will disagree read more

My family & I were in Lawrence recently, visiting my brother who goes to college out there. He loved this place, so we went for brunch. It was a weekday, so it should've been cool (no large weekend crowds). Anyway, we ordered - & 30 min later, the waitress comes back & says there was a party of 10 before us so they're running a little slow with our food. Fifteen minutes after that (which was 45 min after we ordered our food), another waitress comes by to apologize for the lateness & says they were currently working on our order. REALLY?? IT TAKES YOU 45 MIN?? AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN DONE YET?? Look, I understand that I'm from LA, where everything moves quickly (& apparently we can handle parties of 10 without making everyone else starve), but STILL. My family & I ended up leaving... without food. Whenever I go back to Lawrence to see my brother, I will for sure NEVER visit this place again. They have lost a customer. read more

First time there this morning and was sadly very disappointed. I've been wanting to try Milton's for a very long time and finally made plans to go today. I ordered an eggs Benedict and my eggs were poached haaaarrddddd and when I say hard I mean full on Easter egg boiled egg hard. I understand that poached eggs require cooks to be precise so I have no problem if it's not the perfect easy egg, but they had to have been cooked at least 4 minutes over to get that hard. I cut into them as the waitress refilled my water and she could clearly see they weren't cooked appropriately but she just walked away. My plate was also covered in water, I assume from when they put the eggs directly on the english muffin from the water, so my muffin was extremely soggy. I understand that mistakes happen but I'm sad to say that this was the worst eggs Benedict I have ever had. The hollandaise was also disappointing as the only flavor that came through was vinegar. Our waitress was disappointing as well, unfortunately. She was attentive with refilling waters but seemed annoyed by a simple question and only checked back by when we had finished our meals and asked "you good?". I understand every experience and meal won't be perfect, and unfortunately this one was far from it. I'm not sure if I'll be back but maybe it'll be better next time. Who knows. read more

I was really enjoying the food until I found a long, curly hair baked into my buttermilk biscuit. Disgusting! I actually got sick to my stomach. To be fair they were nice and comped my meal, but I would never trust a restaurant again where this happened. The hair was long and really baked in there. Probably not a clean kitchen. My spouse and I had breakfast at Loopy's this morning, and we both enjoyed it tremendously. We ordered the frittata, and the maple french toast with a side of ham, and shared our meals. We thoroughly enjoyed everything. It was all outstanding. J. also had coffee, which was very very good. We really like the idea of a quality oriented, small yet diverse menu, which appears to be updated daily or weekly to provide the freshest and best ingredients depending upon availability and season. The portions were just right, instead of huge amounts of low quality and low nutrition food, they were human portions of high quality, extremely tasty, satisfying food, full of delightful flavors and high-quality nutrition. The cafe space itself was charming, making wonderful use of its small area, and the staff were all helpful, friendly, and made us feel at home. We look forward to our next visit! read more

The food and coffees are good. I came here a lot when I was in college, and now that I'm older, I like revisiting an old college staple. However, they've moved locations since I left Lawrence, and the new location seems to be considerably smaller. I went back there last weekend with my husband and 10 month old son. We patiently waited 40 minutes for a table. Luckily my son was well behaved during the wait, but by the time we sat down at a table, my son needed a diaper change. To my surprise, THERE'S NO CHANGING TABLE IN THE BATHROOM! I had to get on my knees while wearing a dress, in a women's bathroom to change my son's diaper. When I mentioned to our server that they should install a changing table in the bathroom, she kind of rolled her eyes and said "Tell the manager", giving me the impression that she's heard this complaint before. I'll give it 2 stars for the food and nice outdoor patio, but good food or no, I won't go back to a place that won't accommodate young families. read more
