8 pm.-10 pm: Late happy hour starts and it's MUCH cooler on the roof of The Oread at that time…read more The view is amazing anytime but the sunset.....it's spectacular. There's no blender on the 9th floor so don't ask for a blended drink. There are a few appetizers on the menu and they are quickly brought up from the bar in the lobby. We tried the pretzels and they were really good, hot and fresh. Relaxing to hang out and meet new people. There is a sail covering over part of the bar, but honestly, even though it was 100 degrees during the day, it was quite pleasant at 8 PM on the roof.

Hands down the coolest patio/bar/viewing spot in the entire city, hands down. Nothing close, and…read moregetting here you'll see the city and KU Campus as you've never seen it before. There's a small bar serving quality beers, wine and mixed drinks to boot, plenty of outdoor seating and on the weekends usually a band from 7-10 p.m. Typically a $5 cover for the latter, well worth it in my opinion. A large tarp covers a good part of top in case the sun is still out and you want in the shade. To get here, take the elevators around the back side of the front lobby to the top floor (8th... I think). From there it's one flight up and through a set of doors. Added bonus: because you're so high up, in the summer that means no biting insects you'll get if at ground level, and I've never been here when there wasn't a light breeze, so cooler. And the views, well. Where else can watch planes taking off from Lawrence's tiny airport, see the cars streaming along I-70, and the tops of downtown, the gazebo in South Park, look down into the football stadium and more? Nowhere. Simply worth coming as a destination in and of itself. No excuse needed. Great spot to simply sit and watch the sun go down and enjoy a beverage. Very highly recommended.

This is a genuinely interesting place, unlike any other in Lawrence. It is tempting to try many of…read morethe drinks on the menu, but if you do so, you may end up with sticker shock when you get the bill. Better to try a couple of drinks each time and return to try others. On some days, but not all days, they have bagels with a choice of spreads. If you want food with your drinks, I suggest you call to see if they have bagels on the day you plan to arrive. We were there on a Friday, and they did have bagels. Parking is less of a problem than downtown. There is diagonal parking on the street in front of the bar. Nostalgia Room is best known for its mixed drinks, and deservedly so. But we also tried the two wines on the menu, and we were surprised by how good they were. Non-alcoholic wines are improving in quality and sophistication.

We tried several drinks between the four of us; favorites were the margarita & horsefeather. I've been exploring the burgeoning world of NA cocktails, and what continues to amaze me is the dedication to not just 'replace the alcohol' with sugar or something blasé. Instead, the challenge seems to be to raise the (pardon the pun) bar with complex flavor pairings that entertain the drinker without the 'easy A' of adding alcohol. Out favorite drinks were easily the ones mixed by the bartender, not the canned variety. So even if you're only sober-curious (or doing a sober buddy a favor), NR is entirely worth your time.
