Frustrated with their appointment process not the their quality of care. I booked online, took time off work, and showed up--only to be told my appointment didn't count because it wasn't "confirmed." They found it in the system but said I should've read the fine print. That's unacceptable. If confirmation is required, make it clear upfront. Wasting people's time isn't good business. read more

Terrible Experience. Used their on-line portal to set up inital appointments at the Prospect location twice. Both times I received confirmations (even took screen shots as validation) that my appointments were registered. Never received any type of confirmation. Both times I had to call to confirm the appointment and was told that neither were confirmed despite confirmations that I had, time spent filling out their forms and submitting insurance information. Scheduling desk could not provide other than to say the appointment wasn't confirmed and that the slots were not longer available. Offered useless apologies for their incompetence. Don't use an on-line scheduling service if it doesn't work. Don't tell me that because your service scheduling service doesn't work, even when I have a confimration screen shot, that you can't do anything to help me. Don't waste your time with this group. They are incompetent and unable to manage customer needs. You are better off going to Pearle Vision or the Walmart Eye Care center--you will get better service there. read more

I called and set an appointment with Milwaukee Eye Care a view weeks ago, during which I was asked for and provided my insurance information. Today, I got to the appointment just to be told that my insurance was separate from the eye insurance and would be out of pocket, which would be a minimum of $480. That this wasn't communicated during my inital call is completely unacceptable. I now have to start my search for a new eye doctor. This is no way to run a business and the front office should have been more proactive in verifying this prior to my wasted trip that I took off work for. To anyone booking an appointment here: triple check that you're insurance is accepted here because it will not be done on the office end. Hopefully this information will save someone the waste of a visit that I just had. read more

If you want to be treated like a widget on an assembly line for your cataract surgery, use this office. Don't complain about the treatment at the surgery center, or you will be branded as a "problem" and sent a bill for an "encounter," not an office visit. After my third visit, the doctor finally took a deep look at my eyes. They seem competent but very laid back on diagnoses. I'm finally getting relief from gummy, crusty eyes that I've suffered from for a year. Not very impressed. Will seek care elsewhere Plus, I always am in there for at least an hour. The care I received from Dr. Heilman was first rate. However the entire unskilled workforce at Prospect Ave are inept and rude. Phone calls are unanswered, messages are not returned. AVOID OPTICAL! They stand out as fumbling idiots among a host of contenders. I purchased a experience pair of Silhouettes 5 years ago. Expensive glasses, $600 if I recall correctly. After that usage the frame broke. I brought them in for repair to be told by said fumbling idiot that the frames are no longer made and that the company representative would be contacted. Three weeks go by, two ignored voicemail went unanswered. Wait until you experience the call tree! ONLY a fumbling idiot could have come up with it. I finally gave up and retrieved my glasses. Don't be a fool, use their physicians, then take your script for contacts and glasses elsewhere. read more

By way of response to the comment, and just so you know for your own business practice, at no point during my visit was I offered disposable sunglasses, nor were they even mentioned, even after asking directly about if it was okay to drive after dilation. After leaving I was able to make it to a nearby CVS and purchase a pair so that I could get myself home safely. Since writing this, I was able to get a thorough, competent eye exam from another optometrist and got a significantly different prescription from the one I received at Milwaukee Eye Care Associates, one closer to my previous one. That optometrist was also able to take the time to explain the condition I mentioned above to me and answer all of my questions. This is a first class group. I have gone here many years, even as a young child. When my last eye doctor retired, I moved to Dr. Pedersen and so did my adult daughter and my husband (who moved from another office). She is wonderful, engaging, and listens well. I recently had cataract surgery with Dr. Edmonds and this was a wonderful experience. He is the surgeon and did the most up to date procedure on me with multi focal lens, Lasik, and included drops in my eye during the surgery so I didn't have to do this following surgery. So great. And it is amazing to not have a cloud over my eye and great eyesight. Following surgery, my appointments have been with Dr. Pedersen, at one week, two weeks, and then a month. Since she is my regular doctor it all feels very comfortable and the whole process was successful. read more

Some of my friends -- who paid around $8,000 or perhaps more out of pocket for the full vision lenses in their cataract surgery-- seemed to have received "red carpet" treatment, flowers after their surgery, etc. (I received nothing after my first cataract surgery. But when i asked why another person did get flowers, then I did too.) Much more importantly, I was not given sufficiently detailed explanations prior to my cataract surgery about the distance choices in the "near" type of lens. But even before that surgery I had an untoward experience: I had been going to their clinic for about a decade. When I stopped wearing my contact lenses, I asked if I still needed to do the very quick refraction test. I was told I did. I asked if it was medically necessary bc my supplement policy covered any medical need. I was told it wasn't medically necessary. So I asked the office to please put into my chart that I no longer wanted the refraction test, for which a rather large fee is charged that the patient must pay herself because it is typically NOT covered by insurance (because it is "not medically necessary!). At my next appointment, I reminded the clinician that I had asked that it be written in my chart that I NOT be given the refraction test. She said, "I already did it so you'll have to pay the $47. I said, But last time I asked that it be put into my chart that I no longer wanted the refraction test done. She then said "All it says here is that you don't want dilation." I asked "How can they do a proper exam without dilation???" So they did the dilation. After, I was billed for the $47 for the refraction test that I had CLEARLY indicated thatvI did not want bc it wasn't medically necessary, and that I had formally requested it not be done. When I refused to pay the $47, the office then reported me to a Brookfield debt collector! To me, the entire refraction situation sounds like a scam; and for a young and perhaps new office person confused the refraction test for dilation, and after my not so great experience with my cataract surgery, (where I am still experiencing eye irritation months after the surgery) and after my wonderful Dr Pederson left their office, I seriously questioned why I should continue going there, even though I live so close to their location. All I can say is that if you go there, prepare to pay out of pocket for your refraction exam fee! And pray that if you need cataract surgery, you'll have a better experience than I did. read more

I can't get new ones without an appointment because it has been two years (like I said, I don't have major eye problems). The first appointment is a month out. I have been a patient at Milwaukee Eye Care since 2018. Today I went for my 1 PM scheduled appointment. I forgot my insurance card and didn't have a charge on my phone to bring up the card. I suggested I would email the insurance card as soon as I got home. The receptionist said she would try to call my insurer for the number. I said I would go to my car so I could get the number up. I brought my phone back to her to write down the number. My phone died before she could get the number down. I said, forget it. Cancel my appointment. I went back to my car to get the card up once again so I could email it to her. I went back inside and she said I canceled your appointment and that she would have to see if she could set it up again. Less than five minutes had passed since I said to cancel and returned to provide my insurance. I sat down and waited 25 minutes. 15 minutes into the wait, I heard the doctor tell the receptionist she would not be able to take me. I waited ten more minutes and then went to the desk. The receptionist told me that they could not take me because I was more than 15 minutes late. First, I was on time, she held me up because of the insurance. I provided the insurance at 1:15, within their 15 minute late grace period. If she had taken care of me in a timely fashion, all would have been good. The receptionist created the problem and in my opinion, it was intentional on her part. After I left at 1:40 I called and asked to talk to leadership. They never called me back. I recommend you go to another provider if customer service is of concern to you. To be clear, this was at the Mequon location. read more

I had cataract surgery and an intraocular lens replacement. My vision is worse (need glasses now and didn't before) than prior to the procedure. Dr. Frame sold me an expensive lens replacement that doesn't work for me. This was a significant out of pocket cost that the practice is not willing to reimburse me. read more

Bottom Line: Excellent docs, limited frame selection. I was impressed with the professionalism of this office. They seem to run a tight ship. The doctor I saw was very good and took the time to answer all of my questions. I've had some real kooks give me some bad eye exams in the recent past, so it was so nice to get someone I felt I could trust and that gave me a good prescription. I made an appointment at 10:15. I showed up at 10:05. I waited until 10:50. I complained to the person who helped me check-in that I have waited more than half an hour. She apologized and checked for me. She said I am the next patient. I said, I have a meeting at noon and have to leave by 11:30. A few minutes later, I was told that I would not be able to get out of there by 11:30 and asked me to reschedule. I told them to cancel my appointment and left there around 11:55. I am not going back. If you have to wait for an hour, what is the point of making an appointment? read more

This is an excellent group of eye doctors, including a top notch ophthalmologist who has done both an iridotomy and cataract surgery for me. Don't be misled by the earlier reviews that complain about insurance or anything that's not care related. I've seen ophthalmologists in several states over my life and these people are some of the best. You will be in good hands here. read more

I went here yesterday for an eye exam, and possibly new glasses. Donna was the Optician (I think), and she was great. She was very personable, and helpful. Looking through the foropter (sp?), it appeared that she set me up with a great prescription. I then went in to see Dr. Heilmann. I didn't like him. He said almost nothing to me, speaking only to his assistant who was taking notes for him. From what I could figure out from what he was saying to the assistant, it sounded like everything was fine, but I am not totally sure because he said near nothing to me. It wasn't the best experience. They also don't accept ForwardHealth for glasses, just eye exams. read more

I cannot in good conscience write a good review, in fact it is with some trepidation that I write this negative review of Milwaukee Eye Care Associates. I dont like to write negative reviews. I have made numerous visits and repeated tests and have had negative reactions to prescriptions and extremely poor documentation in my medical chart which frightens me. All with no improvement or insight into my situation over the last 8 months. And this after spending a year getting associated and comfortable with a doctor there who left unexpectedly, leaving me to start over with someone else. My vision issues are complicated and I'm concerned I'm spending a lot of good money chasing after bad. I have made one more appointment in the coming months. In the meantime I will investigate my options to obtain a second opinion. It's only money and my health is priceless, right? read more

My experience was incredible - and I wanted to share it here. I had Dr. Ries, and he was very thorough. I get my eyes checked annually, and he was by far the best doctor for an eye exam that I have ever had. He took the time to check everything - I didn't feel like the appointment was rushed or impersonable. In addition, I appreciated how he suggested new contact options, but I didn't feel pressured to switch or that I had to buy them from their office. He gave me samples of a couple new brands to try, but insisted I only switch if I like the new ones. HIGHLY recommend Dr. Ries. read more

I was the type of person who, since gaining independence, always frequented vision centers inside gigantic malls or shopping centers (read: Wal-Mart). Because of my nomadic nature, until recently, I had never sought the services of a professional-looking, independent optometry practice. Now, Milwaukee is my home. I needed an eye doctor two years ago, and asked around at work. This was the overwhelming favorite. I dig the location -- East side, close enough to bike, decent parking, easy access. The docs are top-notch. They actually take time to talk with you, discuss your test results, prescriptions, options...unlike those mass-market places where the goal is to get you in and out as quickly as possible and customer service tends to fall by the wayside. Not only have I been here for three eye exams, I called and was given an emergency appointment for what appeared to be a major eye problem. That doc was great; after a brief exam and round of questioning, figured out the problem and all was well. I must also add that my first optometrist here was kind of an idiot -- I made a note and asked for a different doctor the next time. I also heard he "left" the practice...kudos! The support staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and I appreciate the "heads up" calls to remind me about appointments and when products are in. The guy who works with frames and glasses (blanking on his name) is utterly fantastic...super nice, explains how your insurance coverage works, and works with you in terms of options. The frame selection isn't overwhelming, which I like -- plenty of options without feeling like I'm looking for hours or wasting time. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the prices on said frames/lenses -- whew! Even with my insurance, which is pretty stellar, I'm still looking at upwards of $175 for frames/lenses. Yeowch. I know I can get cheaper options at mass market places, but this is close by and I don't need to walk through the mall to get there. The staff makes a world of difference. read more

Just horrible customer service. I had an issue with my daughters insurance, which would take 24 hours to clear up, and on the phone their receptionist said they could backdate her visit. After driving 45 minutes, they made us wait a half an hour...so they could check the insurance! I explained the issue multiple times, but they still insisted on calling the insurer, when they had already done that earlier. Really stupid. In fact, we have never felt like our concerns came first with them, just their payment. Will never go back. read more

Maybe it's not fair to write a review of this place while I'm here, waiting to be seen by the doctor, but this is my problem with this office. I wait and wait and wait and wait and wait... Last time, I sat in an exam room for over 40 minutes with no one stopping in to let me know what was going on. It was after their official close time, and I was starting to think that maybe they had forgotten about me and gone home for the day. The opthalmologists do not diagnose infections properly. I went 4 times and got no where until I finally went to someone who could help me somewhere else. And then there is the creapy old man who rested his cheek against mine while checking my eyes and then did not realize patients can hear him while he is in the hallway. The good side is the frame selection and the man who works there, he couldn't be more helpful. read more

Lasik Surgery went great! Dr. Peter Foote and his staff were excellent from start to finish. While I didn't get to meet the doctor until the day of surgery, I felt very comfortable because of the professionalism of his team. The day of surgery went very smoothly and l especially appreciated the nurse whose entire job seemed to be to hold my hand and keep me calm during surgery. My vision was -6.5 in each eye going into the surgery. I could already see better walking out of the surgery center and my vision is now 25/20. It is an amazing result for someone who has had glasses since she was in 3rd grade. read more

I received superb emergency Argen Laser Surgery at the expert hands of Dr. Aaron Holtebeck. I was seeing "cobwebs" in my left eye and they fit me into their busy schedule. After being examined, I was scheduled for same-day emergency surgery and was informed that I was "one day away from a complete retinal detachment." I am so grateful for his expertise and also for his compassionate and caring staff. I recommend him without reservation for anyone needing his services. My Doctor at this location is great but the woman at the glasses counter is awful. Her demeanor and attitude were incredibly rude. I tried to pick up a pair of glasses and really did not need anything else. They were already paid for and they are work glasses so I did not need them adjusted and told her that. The attitude coming off of her was very off putting. The glasses at this place are not cheap but I like to try shopping local. Can't say I will ever buy glasses here again. My main issue is the waiting, got in immediately to see the assistant, she was great, Doctor Weis saw me right away and that was great. He is the main reason I came back, the first time I saw him in Brookfield, this time in Franklin. He gave me my prescription, asked me if I was going to get glasses, I said yes and one of the office staff said I had one in front of me to see, Gary is the name I recall. I sat down and waited, waited, all the people in front of me he was no longer helping, I even got up to look at glasses thinking I would spark some urgency, it did nothing. So I made sure with the front desk that I didnt owe them anything and I left. Their service years ago was much better, and the Brookfield Staff at that time had a sense of urgency. I liked the Doctors I saw after an eye emergency, however the front desk staff is some the most rude women I have ever experienced. As a new patient I did not feel welcome, nor did they help me resolve an insurance issue; rather they had me take a seat and treated me like an uninsured homeless person looking for free care. It didn't get better when I called in to ask for clarification regarding a script. They forgot to call in necessary medications and when asked about said I must be wrong and that never happened. Spend your money somewhere else, this office clearly doesn't want new business and could care less about people. read more

This is the first review I have ever written because I am so disappointed by the service at Milwaukee Eyecare Associates. I originally went there because I was a college student three hours from home. I have now been a patient there for the past three years and regret every appointment I've attended. I was plagued with ongoing eye issues in two separate 5 month stretches. Over those ten months, I attended several appointments to try and figure out what was wrong and get the correct treatment plan. From these appointments, I felt as though only the superficial issue was being addressed because the ailment kept returning. After feeling helpless due to blurred vision, eye pain, inability to wear contacts, and overall dry eyes, I made an appointment at my previous eye doctor in my hometown three hours away. The difference in caliber of service was astonishing. Fifteen minutes after sitting in the exam chair at my old doctor's office, I was given a straight diagnosis and prescription. I remember telling my mom how frustrated I was by Milwaukee Eyecare Associates' inability to accurately diagnose my problems and how much I regretted the time I wasted there when I could have been effectively treated and avoided the year of suffering with unhealthy eyes. The symptoms related to this issue have been completely resolved since taking the medication prescribed by my old doctor. Secondly, the people at Milwaukee Eyecare Associates were not the friendly employees one would expect from a seemingly neighborhood family doctors office. There were times I felt talked down to because of my young age (20/21 at the time) which did not sit well with me. I gave them one more chance because I needed contacts and the three hour drive to my home optometrist did not fit in my busy schedule. I attended the contact exam and was thoroughly disappointed yet again. When the technician had a hard time adjusting my vision to 20/20, she brought a doctor in for assistance. This doctor was unbelievably rude. She did not greet me and barely looked at me aside from my eyes. She spoke to the technician as though I were not in the room and seemed annoyed that I was having a hard time clearly seeing the eye chart across the room. I left the office in a bad mood but was happy I could finally get contacts...or so I thought. Because they did not have my prescription of contacts in the office, they said they would order a trial pair for me which would be in in about a week. It has since been three weeks and I haven't heard anything. I called the office to check the status of my trial pair but they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. I am an incredibly easygoing person but I feel as though I've been taken advantage of by this office one too many times. Once I get my official contact prescription, I will be taking it elsewhere to purchase contacts. I am never returning to Milwaukee Eyecare Associates and advise others to do the same.
