I found this place by mistake. I had made plans to take my wife for dinner somewhere else, then found out it was closed that particular night. We needed somewhere close by so that we could eat before the babysitter was done. In our scramble for another option we stumbled across Al-Amir here on Yelp. The reviews are right. This place is great! The gyros, schawarma, and falafel are delicious. I lived in the Middle East for 2 years in graduate school and the food at Al-Amir is the closest thing to actually being back over there that I've experienced in the US. The prices are great and the food is better. If it didn't take 30 minutes to get here I'd be getting takeout from here multiple times a week. They do have several tables with chairs. The tables and chairs were deserted when we were there. Only two other couples came in while we were there and they were picking up takeout orders. At least the night we were there gave us the feeling this place hasn't really been discovered yet. It needs to be. This place is great and I hope it sticks around. read more

Food is fresh and plenty! Husband and I both got the gyro wrap platter for lunch with rice and salad and it was all so good! Our kids loved the falafels (my picky 2 year old was obsessed). We got the kids a cheeseburger and it's not an American cheeseburger so they weren't thrilled with the spices but my 4 year old loved my gyro meat so they left with full tummies. read more

We ordered the Gyro Wrap Platter with Greek Salad and Fries (upgrading them to Greek Fries). So good and filling. On our second visit, we split this combo and added pita and hummus. Finally had a chance to stop in here after reading the reviews a few months ago. Definitely worth your time. Wife and I went in for dinner, we did not leave disappointed. We split the Greek fries, which came with a ton of cheese and seasoning, enjoyed every bite. My wife got the traditional Gyro and I got a Shwarma sandwich. Both were some of the best Greek sandwiches we had in a long time. The lanb and the chicken both had great seasoning and taste. The only disappointment we had was the hummus. My husband and our roommate wanted to get Milya but since I was tired all I wanted for dinner was hummus, baba ganoush, and pita bread... CAN I SAY THEY DELIVERED ON DELICIOUS FOOD?!?! I was a bit ridiculous and asked my roommate for 10 pieces of pita bread (when they asked how many I wanted... I didn't know they would take me serious...) and they accommodated me... This location is super-busy at lunchtime so we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our order but once we got it I forgot about the wait. It's a small establishment on the end of a small strip mall. It's clean but basic in decor. I was hungry and wanted to try as much as I could for a small price. I ordered a chicken platter for $8. It came with a golden yellow rice with grilled chicken pieces and tzatziki sauce drizzled on top. With this deal you also get a feta, olive, green leaf salad perfectly laced with a delicious vinaigrette and fries. Oh, the fries! The fries are cooked to the exact crispiness I've always hoped for but never quite achieve from other restaurants. The seasoning on the fries takes it up a huge notch! This will cause a "Constant Craving" my mouth will love but it won't be good for my waistline. LOL This restaurant will be frequented often. read more

This place is simply amazing. I wish it wasn't so far from me but I make sure to stop by everytime I'm in the area. I'm not a huge fan of rice but theirs is to die for. You get two sides with the gyro so I get that with salad. I'm not a huge fan of olive or tomatoes and they never have a problem accommodating me. Their grape leaves are exceptional. I recently thought about making my own rotating vertical spit to make shawarma with. On their facebook it has a video of how they do their chicken. I messaged them and they were more than willing to give me information and even sent educational YouTube videos! Unfortunately they don't make their own beef/lamb shawarma but it really is better than most of what I have found in the area. The employees are super helpful and nice as well. The only warning I would give is you're getting Togo they put the salad and rice in the same container and it won't last long. I just always ask for it separated. If you read the reviews for Milya Cafe you'll see terms like "a hidden gem" and "an unassuming little place" used a lot, and there's a reason for that. It's down at the end of a little strip mall off Reed Hartman Highway next to a Wendy's, but the food here is excellent, and the folks who run it are really nice people. I usually get the chicken platter with the yellow seasoned rice and Greek salad - drizzle some of the white garlic sauce over the chicken, and you'll be vampire-proof, but you'll have a smile on your face from the combination of flavors. If rice isn't your preference, their crinkle-cut fries are sure to please - do yourself a favor and pay the up-charge to make them Greek fries, with feta cheese and seasoning. And make sure you bring a friend or are really hungry, because the portions are huge. Their gyros are wonderful and they're big - everything tastes fresh, which makes sense since you watch them slice the meat off the spit. (Pro tip: get a second cup of the tzatziki sauce; you'll thank me later.) And save some room for their excellent baklava! It's worth the trip all by itself. read more

Ill start as I always do when reviewing middle eastern fare: I'm an expert. Its the only cuisine I eat on the road as it is the healthiest option for the road warrior and amid the 9 states I dwell throughout the Mid West, Ive sampled 100's. And then there is Milya..... I found this joint in a Yelp search while staying in Blue Ash Ohio about a year ago and honestly, the start was kinda weird.... this is not a review about ambience: this place is nestled deep within a non-descript strip mall off of a commercial by way and the inside isn't really much to speak of other than it resembles more a fast food place than THE place that serves the best ME food I've ever had. And after at least 12 visits, i feel ready to review Milya's with a fair amount of knowledge. As Ive come to know the friendly staff Ive learned that this is a family owned restaurant owned by the sweetest Palestinian family who you will often see hanging out either outside at the table when the weather is nice or inside where the young members are often playing games-- a feature I find endearing as it lends to the family element of the place. But on to the food. After sampling tons off the menu there is no weak link. Everything is made from scratch, from fresh ingredients and the portions are huge, making it a crazy amazing value. Ill start with the benchmarks: The Hummus is perfectly creamy and comes topped with paprika, EVOO, and pickle chunks with warm fresh pita. For those who say its bland I disagree. Hummus is a personal taste and though I usually gravitate to a more tahini laden version, this one holds its own just fine based on texture, presentation and balance. The falafel when eaten straight outta the fryer has a perfect crunch followed by a melt in your mouth filling..... it doesn't get any better than this. The grape leaves are the perfect texture and flavor with a rice filling that balances perfectly with the oiled leaf. Whether you like lamb or Chicken shawarma, the key is how they spice it that lends to its greatness. Ive tasted enough bland meat in my search for the greatest ME food and Milya's nails it down to where no competitor could come close. Whether in sandwich or salad form, the heaps of spiced meat comes topped with a garlic sauce that stays in your mind days later like a food mirage that you have to have again.....I find myself in Blue ash about 4 times a yearand the one thing that keeps me looking forward to this trip is Milya's, where I know that I will be spending every dinner. I don't know how we have been so blessed to have these people settle in our neighborhood. They have brought true cuisine of the Mediterranean culture directly from Israel to this community. Their food is unmatched anywhere in this area and their flavor and portion sizes are boundless. There is no one within 10 miles of this location that has better Mediterranean food. Their chicken Schwarma straight out of a street vendor cart in Jerusalem.
