They were able to give us many options from a local kill shelter (without us feeling pressured- really!) and then followed through with all the information we could ask for about the dogs we were interested in. Jillian was constantly available and willing to work with us when it came to transportation for our new pup. We received constant updates with pictures from both Jillian and Chad, which made us feel included through the entire adoption process; from them pulling him out from the kill shelter and then rehabilitating him until we were able to adopt. We got constant training updates so we felt ready and prepared for him when we brought him home. He is already settling in nicely, alive and happy! Thank you so much!!

We found the shelter to be very clean for the animals. The cats were in nice big cages with hammocks for them and they were well fed and watered and there was no smell from the cats as their cages were very clean. The dog kennels were also very clean and so were the animals. We both felt that the reception area could be kept neater, but we found the small staff there very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate adopting from or relocating to this shelter.

I volunteer at the Spartanburg Humane Society and have learned some about them whenever I'm able to…read morego and spend a few hours over there. They really do try to do their best to make their dogs adoptable. Upon intake, they see a vet, get their shots, get spayed/ neutered, get washed etc. They have even started doing some training with the dogs so they learn basic commands. Some dogs will have stars on their kennel to indicate what level of training they have achieved. They also do some muzzle training and socialization with dogs that were not socialized as puppies. The first 6 months of a dogs life are very important for this so if that window is missed, additional training is necessary. All dogs are walked at least three times a day and usually extra by volunteers. They also go outside for playgroups twice per day. If you get an opportunity, I would go watch a playgroup and actually get to know the dogs. I saw another review that stated that all the dogs were vicious and lunging at her children as they walked past. This is simply not the case. Many of the dogs are just very excited to see humans walking by their kennel. Get them outside and they'll be as sweet, and lovey as can be. Adoption fees are ridiculously cheap here and they include shots etc. All you have to do is make sure that you buy heartworm protection upon adopting. It's totally irresponsible to NOT buy heartworm protection so it just makes sense. They post their adoptable dogs on petango and on their website. I also try to post any dogs I play with to my instagram page to make sure that the word gets out about them.

I purchased a GoldenDoodle from Crockett last year. She was born on February 28, 2025, and she has…read morebeen a constant disappointment from the first day she arrived. She was sick when she got here -- vomiting and diarrhea, sometimes with blood in her stool. We took her to our vet, only to find that she had an intestinal parasite. Total cost to cure: over $500. She has also been a constant behavioral problem -- destroying furniture. Worst of all, she is afraid of almost everything -- from the first day she arrived. The Crockett trainer said she was shy -- hardly. It's as if she were traumatized as a very young puppy. She is the product of a Lancaster, PA puppy mill. The Crockett people should be driven out of business. We spent thousands of dollars for a dog that is a constant problem.

The staff walks all they can but with over a hundred dogs it's not possible to walk them all.

I was going to buy a Siamese kitten because I had one in the past but with so many animals abandoned, I decided to adopt. I found a kitten online and completed the application. I received an email from Randi that said exactly, We are open12-5pm and hope you're able to visit and take Chip home!! I replied that I was getting off work early and would be there to take him home. I stopped by Wal-Mart to buy supplies and got to the shelter around 2:00.I go in and tell the 2 girls at the counter why I was there. One looked up and he's gone. I was surprised and told them that I had the confirmation email to pick him up. She said it's 12-5, basically whoever got there first. She sent me to the kitten room but neither "spoke" to me. By this time I'm angry. I could have been there at 12:00 if I had known their policy. Unfortunately when I'm upset, I cry. It's A trait I wish I could change but it happens every time. I go to leave and stop to tell the girl that I wish they would have explained the policy better and get an eye roll. That night I find another kitten there and show up at 11:30, 30 minutes before they open. I go in and again tell the girl why I'm there. She's trying to get the computer up and tells me to get his card and bring it to her. He is not in the room. She is still getting her computer up but says, I guess he's already gone. What? I pull up the page and show her the kitten and part that says, I'm being cared for by Anderson County Paws. She scrolls my phone screen down where it says, come she me at PetSense. She acts like I'm stupid because I don't know what that is. Another girl has joined her now. I ask if they could call and let them know I'm on my way. I did not want a repeat of the day before. She replied no, they won't hold animals either. The new girl says, the kitten's brothers are back there, so just take one of them and if I would just leave, he may still be there. I tell them this has been frustrating process. For that I get, A sarcastic, have a nice day and as I'm walking out, the other girl says, I hope you get the day you deserve. I did not respond but the more I thought about it, it really bothered me. All I wanted to do is adopt a kitten, I'm not stupid and didn't appreciate their attitudes. I'm going to follow up with the shelter as well. All we hear is adopt, don't shop, it shouldn't be a process where you're treated the way I was. I did find out PetSense is a new pet store in the Wal-Mart on 28 shopping center. It is a beautiful store and every one is very friendly. The kitten I wanted was there and Lauren was very helpful and friendly. I still appreciate Paws, he was already fixed, shots and had a microchip all for free. I've read a few other reviews that reflect the same situation. I hope it's addressed.
