I ended up telling my friend about it, he called Foothills to check on it, spoke with someone who was suppose to call him back, that never happened either. Since this time, I had made 2 different donations to Spartanburg Animal Shelter,(in memory of.....) and those people received notice within a week. In future I will be making contributions to Spartanburg, not Tryon.

She calms my son on the spectrum and sleeps with him at night. She has awakened the empath in me and increased my drive/motivation. She helps me get out of bed, enjoy sunshine, and has brought so much love and laughter! And here I thought I was going to give to her/rescue her... What an absolute blessing! First of all, when we…read moreadopted her, we were told she would be very small, she weighed 2.3 lbs. when we picked her up. She grew like wildfire and now weighs 9.8 lbs. and the vet says she is still growing!! She was very hard to house break or to train her to do anything. She destroyed the carpets in our home, not just by peeing or pooping but by chewing them. She also has chewed corners off dressers, doors, and cabinets and still at 1 year old scratches, like a cat on evrything. (and I have scars on my legs to prove it) We even paid $1600 extra for a 2-wk. Board and Train where she spent 2 weeks in the home of one of CD's expert trainers. When we picked her up I expected her to have learned things like" stay, crate, no, down", etc. and maybe even been closer to being potty trained! All she learned was sit., & down, which she quickly forgot how to do as soon as we brought her home from the trainers. One other thing, we were under the impression we would meet the breeder. I'm not sure. but we picked her up at someone's house because she was being "fostered there until we could pick her up". DO YOU'RE RESEARCH WHEREVER YOU PURCHASE A PUPPY. She is 14 months old now and we do love her as one of the family but she is still a handful and a slow learner.

DOGGY DAY OUT PROGRAM - I love this facility and it's team of friendly staff. It's clean & bright…read morewith room outside for the dogs. I participated in their amazing Doggy Day Out program requesting the dog they thought would need it most. I "borrowed" one of the adult dogs, his name was Goblin, for the day. They had everything prepared for me when I got there:: he had a special "Adopt Me" vest on, a good leash, a water bowl, poop bags, a couple of toys to bring with us and even a bag with special treats for him. I took him to Paris Mountain and we hiked for hours. I fell in love with that boy! He was so pooped when we returned but in a good way. I shared numerous photos I took of him on our hike, hoping to help with his adoption. Good pics really help. He was adopted shortly thereafter, and it made my heart happy. If everyone would spay/neuter/chip their animals, we wouldn't need animal shelters in the first place. Great program!

Unpleasant telephone experience with a sarcastic volunteer who had an "Holy-er than Thou" attitude…read more After being told that I would not be eligible to adopt from their business, especially considering that I don't live within a four hour driving distance. (Originally from Mars Hill, NC, visiting family in Etowah, NC, currently living in Vermont.) I lamented that in this instance their policies would be denying a dog a good and loving home, and ended the call. Five minutes later, the same, self anointed "Director of Phone Etiquette" volunteer called back to chastise me, and my attitude. She ACTUALLY called back to put me in my place. (Hence the 1 star rating.) After a heated exchange, she told me to "Go back to the 'North' where you came from!" and ended the call. I think if I were an actual 'Northerner' I might have been offended by that statement. Keep this in mind my Northern neighbors who have moved to the area. Your 'Northern Dollars' might not be wanted if making donations. I feel sorry for this frustrated woman and anyone who has to encounter her. Guess I should be blocking the phone number, I suspect she might also be the self anointed 'Responder in Chief" to 'less than positive, reviews. Apologies only accepted by paper mail.

CSHS is a non-profit and No-kill animal shelter. They have adoptable dogs and cats on site. The kennels and cat rooms can be walked through and their cats/kittens are free roaming. They have all sorts of breeds and sizes of pets. Typically there are 60-80 adoptable animals. They need Volunteers! The Volunteers here are wonderful. They give the dogs and cats their time and love while awaiting forever homes. The shelter is need of donations as well. The main things they need are: Gallon bleach, Laundry soap, Wet pate dog or puppy food, and paper towels.

The cats were healthy, had been chipped, and we're up to date on their shots. Nine years later, my girls are still going strong! I have volunteered there as well. Their Kibble Crew works very hard to bag hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food to give away to the community. I can't imagine how much food has been given out. The shelter is always clean. The staff there is knowledgeable and their top priority is the animals. I recommend them every chance I get.

On the wall there are magnetic pics of who is for adoption with a professional picture & their name. There is a separate kitten room where the antics are captivating. Dogs are separated far enough away from cats to minimize any anxiety. The staff is very friendly and helpful, willing to give any info they can on a particular animal. I highly recommend this Humane Society if you are looking for a fur-ever companion. They also have a thrift store you can donate and buy an array of great finds from. Had an agreement/approval (they told me not to fill out adoption application until they day I…read morepicked up the dog) to adopt a dog and talked to the canine coordinator Amanda, everything was figured out and all set to adopt her. They told me to call back with a official date to pick up the dog I had chosen to adopt. Come to find out the dog was adopted a week prior and they were not able to give me a solid answer and told me they would call me back (BIG LIE!!). Called the next day and was told the dog was adopted, explained how I was supposed to adopt the dog and had personally been called my Amanda due to being on the dogs file and set up that I would adopt her and was then told I was put on the file again as the person adopting the dog. I had dates and voicemalls to prove this. When explaining this to the oconee employee, they hung up on me!! No respect or decency to admit their mistake at all. Very disappointed by this and do not recommend at all!

I saw a puppy on line and called them on Friday ...the stray was on a 5 day holding per law they…read moresaid to call back on Monday...MY husband and I were the first in line on Monday ready to meet the baby...They said the dog has already been spoken for...I said you told me it was going to be 5 days...per law...the boy up front asked who I talked with...I didn't get her name ....I did voice my opinion about how disappointed we were to hear this...It's a shame there are rules for some but not all...Spartanburg Humane Society..you definitely need to do better than this....I'm sad to say this is the last time I will ever visit again......
