These are the best tacos in Ottumwa. The homemade salsas and perfectly cooked meats make these wonderful. Very delicious!! Service is quick and efficient. More than passable. I've got to try more things on the menu. They have many different kinds of meats like chicken, asada, pork al pastor, lengua. The server went right to the favorite, asada, and I had to clarify that I wanted something different. Its okay. I look like a guy who would order asada. I always ask. I would suggest a better menu that fits what is on the menu. All the meats available would be great. Ambiance is typical taqueria decor, but most people coming here are really looking for the great food. It's clean and well lit. Just here visiting and was so very glad the reviews of this place were accurate. Thanks fellow yelpies! We came an hour before close and our service was great, they have a huge menu to choose from and everything we ordered was delicious. Authentic Mexican food for sure, I'm usually an Al pastor girl when it comes to my sopes but the asada was definitely a 10/10. A quiet spot a bit hard to find- tacos were good but refried beans were watery and tasteless- no beer or wine-

mid day order. been a while but i had to have steak fajitas! 18.50 for the full set with extra tortillas. beans rice and a bit of salad in the full set. i wish they had more onions and peppers in with the beef. a bit well done on the grilled items. but good all the same! i see they have beef soup again! i will have to try this at the new location. read more

Love this place! Best authentic tacos ever, the red sauce makes it for me. I haven't found anything that even compares. I hear that everything else is good also, but I can't not get the best tacos I've ever had every time I go. I decided it was time to check out Mimi's instead of my usual stop at Taqueria Juquelita. I had only recently learned of its existence. I had a very good meal. I usually go to these places just for 3-4 tacos. This time I had two lengua and two seasoned pork. I enjoyed them both very much. I always like lengua and this was fine. It was juicy and tender. I thought perhaps it could use a little more salt cooked in, but this is one of those things that you can add salt to at the table. I also really enjoyed the pork. It is coated in a sauce that is very slightly sweet. I also received a very well griddled chile jalapeno. Tacos are served with very good homemade green and red sauces. Mimi's is certainly a place you need to go, based on this one visit. It is similar to Taqueria Juquelita in size and feel and is certainly on a par with regard to food. Ottumwa is blessed with some good places for tacos. I need to try Los Cactus since I learned they just moved (not closed) and then there is Tortaco. Stay out of the gringo-ized places; El Potro, Rancho Grande, Fiesta Cantina, etc. read more

Had bad service the first time but wanted to go back. I believe they had just opened. Had a hard time convincing the wife. Came back quite a while later and service was excellent. Had street tacos the first time and they were amazing. Tried the burrito xl the second time. Great. Huge. Their salsa is amazing. Wife had enchiladas and they were great also. The burritos are the best that I ever had here in Ottumwa would recommend this place to anyone. The price is good and so is the food. I love the seasoned chicken burrito with white cheese sauce on top. The regular sized burritos are quite large and for around $6 can't beat that. It is worth the money. They have massive burritos that are around $13 but it is worth it. read more

This was my second visit to Mimi's. I must say, it was as good as my first. On this visit, we had the enchiladas, the quesadilla and the tacos especially. I had just finished working on my house and had been craving for Mexican food, after hearing about Mimi's from a friend I decided to give this place a try, and after live my off of Tex-Mex's my whole life its very tricky to be very surprised. But after one try of the Enchiladas, and my entire world has been mind blown. The sauces, the tortillas, the lime juice, it all tasted very authentic, and that brought a smile to my face. Worst Mexican food we ever ate. My burrito was ice cold and my husbands fajitas were burnt to a crisp. It was dirty, overpriced and even though it was obvious our meals were barely touched they refused to take any money off. I talked to the waiter, a waitress and some guy that came out of the kitchen. I had heard good things about Mimi's. I had even read an article in the newspaper about Mimi having the best street tacos in Iowa, so we were excited to dine there. We ordered iced tea but only bottled sweetened was available or soda so we chose water. I ordered the tongue tacos and a pork taco. I have always enjoyed them elsewhere but Mimi's tongue was tender but tasted off. The pork was greasy. The refried beans were velvety smooth but almost soupy. The rice was bland because of a lack of seasoning. I was disappointed with my choice. But my s/o ordered their signature dish of a grilled pineapple half, stuffed with ham, chicken, pork and shrimp, chunks of pineapple and rice. It was smoky and had a delicious teriyaki flavor going on. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. There was more than enough for the 2 of us. We will go back again because of that dish alone. Mimi's is low on ambience but service was friendly and quick. I would actually rate Mimi's an ok instead of A-ok but did not have that choice. read more
