I've been under NP Kora for about 2 years now and I would say shes great! She has truly helped me control my anxiety. However, the fact there's no patient portal to directly communicate with my provider is so inconvenient to the patient. Jocelyn at the front desk... I have a couple words for management about her. Please know that mental health is serious and is not something you should just treat like lightly. Mindpath Health faces several concerns that potential patients should be aware of. Providers are almost impossible to reach, staff responsiveness is lacking, and overall communication is poor. Sudden patient dismissals without adequate support, notice or medication fulfillment raise questions about prioritization of patient well-being versus profit. The company's policy of not providing management names and dropping patients without notice may contravene California law. There are also instances of physicians not attending video visits while still billing insurance. I do not recommend this company if you're concerned about your mental health. Please note: Abrupt termination without notice/referrals can be "patient abandonment." Under California law, patient abandonment occurs when a doctor terminates the relationship without written notice and without giving you enough time to find another qualified provider while you're still in need of care. Dr. Perlov has been really fantastic to work with. He is very conscientious of my needs when providing suggestions for my care. Jocelyn with the front desk has also been very patient with me and extremely helpful. Overall my experience with the practice has been amazing as I am always met with kindness and professionalism. Originally went to this office before it was converted to Mindpath Health. Loved my Dr so stuck with the place. Have been a patient for years, but the new office and billing department are absolutely horrible. I am going elsewhere. My original Doctor left and my new Doctor, although very nice to chat with, lacks genuine attention or compassion for the client. The patent is 'dismissed' in less than 8 minutes. The whole experience seems like an assembly line to push patients in and out as fast as possible to get maximum billing per day. If you are truly in need of HONEST compassion this is NOT your place. While making regular payments I must get 5-10 emails a week telling me I'm being sent to collections. There was a question from my insurance company about a billing code, because Mindpath billed for a procedure that DID NOT occur - an agent from my insurance called Mindpath to look into it for me, saying that if is a mistake they should easily change the code. Mindpath never answered the phone, returned her numerous calls or emails. I have also received emails stating I have been terminated as a patient for lack of payment .. just to get one a few hours later saying 'Accept our apologies, please disregard the last email.' The customer service is absolutely demoralizing. There is aggressive billing, with minimal care. Reading the other reviews here, made me realize this is not an acute case. I've had nothing but positive experiences with the office staff all this time--they're always quick to respond to my messages and help me out both over the phone and in person. This is by far the most unprofessional practice I have had the experience of working with during my time receiving mental health services. As others have stated, this practice lacks ethics and has a history of issuing unauthorized charges to your account. I'm low income and when I originally agreed to services with community psychiatry it was my understanding that they worked with payment plans. For anyone that doesn't have the privilege or the means to pay for their treatment in the moment of services I'd advice to stay away. I had several incidents with the billing department at community psychiatry but the last one was what really set it over the top and what led me to cease services with this practice altogether. During my treatment I was under the impression that I was on a "pay as you can plan" and as long as I was making contributions to the costs of my treatment all was well. WRONG. As soon as my insurance company stopped covering copays for treatment in full due to COVID the billing department was adamant about paying the full balance on my account immediately. Of course I did my best to pay services in full but given my SES, which they were made aware from the beginning, it was impossible for me to keep up. Flash forward to March 2021, they take it upon themselves to charge a total of $170 almost $200 to my debit account without my authorization. In the past I had used this same card to pay for services but only upon my request and it was I who decided the amount I could contribute towards the total debt/balance. I never authorized for my card information to be put on file much less for automatic payments. The real issue here was that they charged my account during the first week of the month which was also the week when my rent was due. Due to these unauthorized charges from community psychiatry there was insufficient funds in my account for my rent check to clear. Unfortunately I don't have the privilege or the financial leeway for $170 to be unexpectedly charged to my account, and I not be affected. Thus the purpose of a payment plan all together. When I demanded that they hold themselves accountable for the late fees I was being held liable for by my apartment complex due to the unprofessional and inconsiderate actions of their billing team I was met with silence and then resistance. Once I threatened to cease services all together the supervisor from the billing department , Marie, finally got around to following up after my multiple attempts to connect with her over a month. She had the audacity to say that it wasn't their responsibility that I had insufficient funds in my bank account at the time the charge was made and that they would not be taking accountability for $100 in late fees. She then added that I had signed an authorization for them to withhold my CREDIT CARD information for automatic charges at the time of my intake. This is false. In my intake I signed the section for financial responsibility but never authorized for my personal banking information to be withheld. Please note that the charges were made to my DEBIT account, which means their actions were still out of bounds despite any signed documentation. Please see image attached. As you can see it is optional to provide your credit card information at the time of intake. I purposefully left this blank. Marie ended that conversation with "you should be more careful with what you sign" as if she had just successfully conned me. It was in that moment that I knew I no longer wanted to continue services with a company that met me with resistance, defensiveness and inconsideration at a time when I was expressing the distress they had cause me. Continuing services with this practice at this point would have been violence towards my mental health. The service itself was subpar. Over the course of almost a year I was on over 5 different medications none which were the right fit. Sessions would start late and end early ( I was still charged the full amount). My service provider was often insensitive and sarcastic in her remarks. If you are struggling with mental health, honestly, anywhere is better than here. read more

Mindpath Health - Intake / Financial Responsibility Section - Psychiatrists Near Me - La Jolla, California

On September 6th at 10:15 in the morning I had received a call from Kim in regards to making an appointment with Dr. Leslie in order to get a refill on my prescription. This morning on September 20th around 9:35 in the morning, I called and spoke with Kim to set up an appointment not only for my refill but for an adustment or re evaluation in my medicine because last night I had a severe breakdown and had been contimplating ending my life. She placed me on a brief hold. When she came back she told me that they had me on a "termination" list and were about to let me go as a client. She said they had attempted to reach out to me several times. I explained that I had only received one message from September 6th. Kim became combative. I expressed my concern to Kim about being terminated and that in all my years of being with Community Psychiatry now Mindpath Health, I have never been told that I was about to be cut off as a client from not responding a week and half later especially when I was reaching out for URGENT help. Her response to me... " Well maybe you would'nt be in this situation and feeling this way had you had responded sooner and kept up with your appointments." The lack of empathy, training and customer service is evident in my experience with Kim. Her condescending treatment, and lack of emotional I.Q says alot about this office and this company. I called back to speak to an office manager. While Im sure I will get a call back, I'm pretty sure the staff have already come up with an excuse and their version. AVOID. I wish I would have read their reviews. Not great. EMDR Therapist arrives late and leaves early. They only have one EMDR therapist according to them in their whole network. Cost is high even with insurance. Therapist doesn't know if she diagnosed or not. When the medication nurse was the one that suggested a diagnosis. Lack of communication maybe but therapist would contradict herself a lot. Seeking private pay therapy is a better option for better mental health. Cost was in the $300s for both Med Nurse and EMDR each visit. Find something better. Which I did and paying less with better caring EMDR therapist. That $300 charge came in different amounts for the same date of service throughout the year. Maybe they do that so you don't notice and keep charging you for the same visit. I thought I would never stop getting them. It became so expensive I had to stop going which stops your med refills because you need to see the med nurse for constantly. For that amount you would think the level of care would be spectacular instead you get someone who seems like they are bored and winging it. read more

If there was an option for no stars, that would be more appropriate. Not only was I told by my doctor, Yi Ting Halgedahl, that she would be transferring me to another doctor because she had "too many clients," it turns out that she actually no longer works at the La Jolla location, she did not transfer me to another doctor, and when it was time to get my medication refilled, no one contacted me or the pharmacy to let me know this needed attention. On top of that, the unprofessional, very rude woman I talked to from the La Jolla office told me that it was my responsibility to find another provider, even though I was told that my case would be transferred to another doctor and I wasn't told my doctor was actually leaving the organization. She also said I should have gotten a letter in the mail, which I didn't get. When I asked to speak with her supervisor, she said no one was available. No providers were available, and that she was "trying to help." Trying to help is not telling me that it was my fault for not knowing something I wasn't told in the first place. read more

Just an update to note that I finally paid the additional $75 that they charged me on top of the $150 they initially charged up front. No one would change the billing code which was clearly wrong. I used their online portal and received email acknowledgment of the payment. 3 weeks later I still got a bill--this one saying that it was my final notice before I'm taken to collections. The psychiatrist never answered the personal letter I sent him, asking for help. Avoid this place at all costs! I missed an appointment with Dr. VJ. It was unfortunate but I couldn't do anything about it. When I tried to call the office back, they declined my call for three days! When I finally got through I had expressed that I had missed my appointment and needed to reschedule. They already knew who I was and laughed at me saying they knew who I was and that the doctor was mad at me. He said I would need to pay hard ball with the DR. i've had such a great experience with my provider and the staff here at mindpath. more specifically, i wanted to highlight the efforts and kindness of the administrative staff. everytime i have a question, if they're unable to answer it right away, they're able to find an answer and give me a call within 1 business day. i've been having issues with finding a pharmacy to fill my medication that is on back order, but the staff has been kind and patient with me and had also tried to reach out to some pharmacies to help find a place to fill the order. when i had called to let them know that i ended up calling a pharmacy on my own and let them know to send the rx, they had voiced out their appreciation of me, even though that was their job to do. i think that type of efforts shouldn't go unnoticed esp. with how most medical office staff handle things with patients. thank you! read more

I had a few appointments with Dr. Kearny before deciding to never go back there. Dr. Kearny is a nice lady but stay clear if you have an eating disorder. During our first session we went over what I was struggling with and I told her I was in recovery from an eating disorder. She then looked me up and down and asked me how much I weighed. When I said I didn't know, she asked me how much I thought I should and would want to weigh. I felt so uncomfortable at this point that I left that session never wanting to go back. I gave her another chance but it was still not good. I ended up finding a psychiatrist elsewhere that is sensitive to those with eating disorders. read more

Edit - One day after this review was posted the billing manager finally called me back. She was very nasty to me and ultimately refused to send the bill to my insurance. Instead she sent the bill to collections the same week I found out I even had a balance. What they are doing is a bait and switch scam. The doctor treating you will come up as in-network, baiting you into using their services, then they will bill your insurance through their clinic which is always going to be "out of network" then stick you (the patient) with the bill. This tactic helps them get more than what the insurance would negotiate for an office visit and they pocket the difference. See my link below. I'm working with local media to expose this. I'm filing a formal complaint with the California Medical Board and also the Better Business Bureau. I also called the clinic under the advice of my insurance company to get their NPI number which is common practice for people to verify benefits. Incredible Psyciatry Ive had a very good experience my Doctor Kora does an amazing job

During covid times, providers were super backed up and I made an appointment with a psychologist here for about 3 months out (that was December, appointment in March). I called to cancel the appointment sometime in January after finding a different therapist. Then I got an appointment reminder in February. I called the office, again, and canceled the appointment, again, in February. Now it's 24 hours before the originally scheduled appointment and I get a reminder email saying here's the zoom link and you need to cancel with 48 hours notice or you will be charged (odd thing to include in a message sent less than 48 hours before...). I replied to that email, but it's unmonitored. I tried to call the office to cancel FOR A THIRD TIME but they are not answering the phone. I consider myself an expert at bureaucracy (I'm a lawyer) and have no serious mental problems. If it's this hard for ME to cancel an appointment, how hard must it be for all of their other patients? read more

These guys never pick up the phone and rarely return calls. This isn't new to COVID, I've been going here for years and it's always been their MO, but it got so, so much worse when they moved to Community Psychiatry. Found a new therapist and am looking for a new psychiatrist simply because the office staff here is unreachable 99% of the time. You literally cannot get in touch with a provider without filtering everything through the office staff which seems to promptly forget whatever you tell them. For example, I asked for a prescription refill at a specific pharmacy. Instead of sending the message to the provider, they waited until after hours to leave a message saying they don't know what pharmacy to send it to even though this information was already given to them. read more
