This place, in contrast has made lemonaid out of lemons so to speak. The room was great, as always. The staff was great, as always. They no longer have a breakfast buffet.... most motels have stopped offering it while not reducing their room rates. The Eagle's view came up with an interesting solution. You fill out a menu of what you want in the morning and when you'll show up and hot coffee and all the goodies you ordered are waiting when you get there. Being a big eater I was concerned that the portions would be skimpy. But the gal working the b'fast really heaped on the food. It was great! This motel has always been the best lodging in town (by far). Always stay here when we're in town.

But the inn is much more than this. you are walking distance to downtown, and a mile from the lake. the outside seating areas are cozy and the roof top seating area is wonderful! there are snacks and drinks on both floors and the breakfasts are exceptional. a really great couple of days!

Okay, the food isn't "foodie" worthy, but it is decent. The drinks - including a nice assortment of cocktails, are all well curated and fairly priced. The atmosphere is great. The back deck overlooks a grassy area with picnic tables and plenty of area to relax. Yes, the property is a no pet property, and that isn't all bad - especially as some folks are allergic or just plain don't care for pets. I think being a no pet property is great - and I am a take my dog everywhere person. I suggest going to the Wallow Lake Lodge for the Happy Hour. Get some fries, and then grab your dog and walk down to the lake off the property to end a great evening.

Rooms were great, the owner is a little Korean lady that makes the stay special, and it is only a couple of minutes to walk either way to a convenience store or a restaurant at the truck stop. And got us to our room in a hurry which we loved cause we were so tired. He explained that there was no elevator which we didn't mind cause we traveled light. When we got to the room it was exactly what we needed. Everything was clean and and in great working order. Only thing is the DirectTv left a lot of channels to be desired. In the morning the continental breakfast is from 6-10. I over slept so didnt get in till 7. When I opened the warmer they were out of eggs and biscuits. I was slightly bummed but knew it was my fault so I didn't mind too much. Well the day time lady (forget her name) came out in a hurry with a HUGE good morning and noticed and immediately asked if I'd like some and made me some FRESH! I ate alot and went back to sleep. Oops over slept again! It was 10 and check out is at 11! I called down to inquire about a late checkout and the super nice clerk gave me untill 12! What great service! At check in I was assigned a room on the second floor. When given instructions on the best stairwell to access my room I learned there was no elevator. Due to health conditions I find climbing stairs to be extremely difficult. I asked if he could change m3 to a first floor room and he said that would not be possible though it appeared to me that I was an early check in he should have easily charged room assignment. Apparently he was not authorized to make any decisions as I heard him tell other guests that he would have to call the owner or manager. I'm a loyal Best Western traveler and though this hotel was just "okay" I find that their sub brands are not nearly as nice as their core brand. The free breakfast while adequate was the same each morning, sausage gravy, biscuits, sausage links and sausage patties and pre fried eggs. No fresh fruit but three cold cereals and selection of breads.

If you visited the hotel prior to the pandemic, please be advised it is a completely new and improved experience. The building and grounds have a unique and storied past, dating back to the mid-1800s when the first permanent structures were built there. The building was once a hospital and trading post, a movie theater and many other things. Then it fell into precipitous disrepair for many years until the last several owners began putting a great deal of money into bringing the resort back to its former glory. The building is a big, sprawling and drafty old place. If you are looking for a painstakingly restored Williamsburg style country inn, this place isn't for you. There are creaky floors, uneven surfaces, and yes... cobwebs here and there. But the wonderful new owners of the property are dedicated to making it shine. Please do visit the The Lodge at Hot Lake Springs. Ask questions, wander from room to room. Explore the grounds. Read Wikipedia about the lodge, and track down some of the cable ghost hunting programs on YouTube that feature the place. Enjoy soaking in the pools.
