Food truck stopped by my office. I am so thankful for the guy who sets that up AND for the truck with yummy food. I got the empanadas. They are covered in a (spicy or mild) sauce, cheese and pic. They were tasty, but they seemed more like fried tacos than empanadas. It didn't matter to me because they were tasty. They also had tacos, cubanos, loaded fries and another sandwich. Another solid food truck within the confines of the Houston area. I noticed they are sometimes at the Truck Yard bar area in EaDo and they'll cater other locations for grand openings or special events. Talk about availability and doing it what it takes! They're known for their tacos and loaded fries. Everyone knows my love for tacos so that's what i went with. I did the pork and brisket tacos which were delicious and tasty although a bit messy. A good if not great deal for a sandwich from Mingo's - which I'd give a 3.5. To explain. They were the food truck of choice at the Kirby Ice House and I ordered the "El Flacos" brisket sandwich. Advertised as a brioche bun with brisket meat, 5-blend shredded cheese, pico de gallo (or pickles depending on which online menu you read) and sauce topped with cabbage, lettuce. So why 3.5 stars - my sandwich came with a well-toasted bun, and moist brisket meat. No 5-blend cheese, no pico de gallo/ pickles, somewhat oily fries, and a $12+ tax price tag. I enjoyed the sandwich, the fried were just okay but I've eaten better sandwiches for $12+ tax and a tip. They were very busy, so to their defense they may have run out of the toppings, and another visit might improve my thoughts - but not tonight. Update - I greatly appreciate the owner reaching out to me within the first 24-hours to address the concerns noted - truly shows a commitment to continuous improvement. Mingo's happened to be coming to our neighborhood to set up shop tonight. After a quick look at their menu online and pics from previous customers, I decided to give the chicken empanadas a try. They were busy, but nothing too crazy. Once I placed my order I was told it would be about 10 mins for the two empanadas. An hour and 10 mins later, and after going up to the window twice, I was able to finally get my food. I completely understand that with only a couple workers and a parking lot full of customers it could take a while, but that was a long time. I had purchased other items from another food truck in the parking lot to take home to my family, but all of it was cold by the time I made it home. The empanada itself was amazing, cooked perfectly and full of flavor. But I just can't get past the wait time. I'm not sure what happened tonight, but when I was leaving I heard them telling other customers that they had ran out of empanadas and would have to change their orders. It was unfortunate. Hoping they can have better days and get back on top of things, cause one things for sure, the empanada was unlike one I've ever had before and definitely something I'd want again. read more

My neighborhood typically has a food truck on Wednesdays, so luckily I got to try Mingo's. AMAZING! Everything was fresh and so, so tasty! We got: Loaded fries with chicken. The fries actually tasted fresh, not the frozen kind like I feel a lot of places use. The toppings were great as well. Very fresh and they gave a good amount. Sandwich- both my husband and son liked this a lot, but I honestly didn't try it. I was too busy stuffing my face with fries and empanada. But again, they really, really liked it. Chicken empanada- this right here was MY FAVORITE!!!!! I wish I had ordered earlier so I could have went back and got another, it was that good. I let my oldest son try it, and the look on his eyes LOL... I knew I had to share. So definitely get the empanadas!! And next time we will try the tacos. read more

These guys came to our neighborhood. We ordered the brisket taco, chicken empanadas, and brisket fries. All were delicious! Brisket tacos were like eating a burger lol. But it was seriously juicy with the mild pico de Gallo it was good. Chicken empanadas, freshly fried with melted cheese, and dude the green sauce! You have to dip it in the green sauce. Brisket fries were also good. If you like kimchi fries these are a friendly less tangy take of it but good! Total= $28 even. Not bad if you want to have something hearty for a change. read more

I checked out Mingo's Latin Kitchen at a food truck festival. Food trucks are one of my favorite things in life. If the name doesn't give it away, Mingo's serves Latin cuisine. They have loaded fries (a food truck staple), empanadas, tacos, Cuban sandwiches, and more. I ended up going with Mingo's fries which are fries tossed with sausage and chorizo gravy plus your choice of meat. I went with brisket as the guy taking my order said it was his favorite. Friendly dude. I also added a fried egg for an additional charge. The fries were alright. The fries themselves were pretty soggy due to the gravy. The brisket was pretty dry and cut into cubes rather than sliced. I'd give them another try but I've had much better loaded fries at other food trucks. I'm big on Cuban sandwiches so I'd try that next time around. read more

In short: a menu that says something different from what the guy in the window tells you, insufficient inventory, and bland mediocre flavors from this food truck that calls themselves a "latin kitchen." Full review: Excited to see a Latin food truck while having a beer and watching the Astro's game at Kirby Icehouse. I looked at the menu before hand and planned on turning the Havana sandwich in to a Cuban by adding pork and removing the lettuce and cabbage. I was immediately disappointed to hear they were out of ham which is one of the listed ingredients in the Havana. I ordered the sandwich anyways and then was given the option to upgrade to a meal and add fries for $2 despite the fact that the menu, proudly displayed and propped up by the window for everyone to see said "served with a side of fries." When questioned about the menu clearly stating it was served with a side of fries already, the guy in the window with his too cool for school demeanor promptly replied with "no." The sandwich was ready very quickly which was a good thing but apparently taking a couple minutes to order a beer at the bar before going back to get my sandwich is not appropriate as I was questioned about what took me so long. As for the food goes, the sandwich was mediocre at best. The bread was the best part as it tasted fresh but the pork was dry and lacked any resemblance to Latin flavor. Recently, had a chance to sample their food while we were drinking out on the patio at Kirby Ice house. Their loaded fries was delicious. I got the one with the fried egg and brisket on top. Opinion: Pretty pricey and nothing we'll be dreaming about. We were really hungry and they were the only food option around (at Eureka Heights Brewery) so we didn't have much of a choice. Ordered: loaded fries (w/ pork) and chicken tacos (comes with 2) - regular sized tortilla but appetizer sized portion inside of the tortilla. Inside the tacos: iceberg lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded chicken and some sort of chipotle sauce. Just a basic taco, with basic taste, on a basic tortilla; probably bought in bulk from Costco. On the upside - the meat was really tender but didn't have much flavor. The Loaded Fries: the sauces/garnishes on the loaded fries were tasty but 3/4ths of our fries didn't have anything but the seasoning that they sprinkle on the fries, after frying. Again, the meat was tender but not much flavor. Portion wise, it was equivalent to a medium fry at any of your fast joints. Certainly not worth $10. Spent a total of: $20 One star goes to the tenderness of the meat. The second star goes to the owners of the truck. Super nice/friendly guys! read more

I got the Chicken El Flaco Sandwich, w/ the chipotle mayo & pico and Mingos Fries! It was very tasty! I did split it with a co worker since we were a bit hesitant, but now I totally wish I would've gotten my own!! The empanadas were crispy and tasty. The chipotle sauce that is use on them, is non spicy but gives it a great kick. However, the gourmet tacos were not what I was hoping for. The chicken tacos was composed of shredded chicken, the flavor needed an extra kick. I order an extra chipotle sauce to give a bit more flavor. Customer service was great!
