History

Established in 1916.

Our first store, in Rogers, was established in 1916 when John Scharber signed a contract with John Deere to sell farm machinery at his general store. The Scharbers added a second location in Long Lake, in 1989. Both stores came to be known as Scharber and Sons. During that time, Suburban Lawn Center in Ham Lake opened in 1970, Weekend Freedom, Savage, opened in 1972, and Isanti County Equipment opened in Cambridge in 1981 and later moved to Isanti in 2002. The five dealerships had separate owners until the merger in 2008. When that occurred, the dealers continued to do business under the existing names. The merger was tremendously successful, allowing the dealers to better serve customers by offering more selection, faster service and greater savings. After a number of years, the store owners felt it was important to clearly identify with one another, acting as one unified front. In January 2015, the five stores were renamed Minnesota Equipment.
