When we arrived, the three ladies at the sign-in shack were just as friendly and helpful. What stood out most to me was how focused they were on making sure everyone understood the process--not just for fun, but also from a safety standpoint. I really appreciated the way the staff in kayaks guided us, giving us clear heads-ups and reminders throughout the trip. That kind of attention helped a ton. The experience itself was absolutely exhilarating--riding through the rapids with friends was so wonderful. Our guides, Margo and Thea, were incredible. They were both friendly and supportive the whole time. At one point, during the last rapid, my friend lost his balance and fell into me, and almost knocking me out of the raft. Thankfully, Margo and my wife reacted quickly and grabbed me before I went overboard. Special thanks to Margo for that! Honestly, the whole trip was so much fun I was ready to go again immediately, but we had to check in our hotel and grab dinner. Only four stars for two reasons. If you've never been rafting before, you will love this! If you have done some rafting in other states, this river will feel tame. Swiftwater adds in some time at a nice little beach where you can ride over a small rapid and hike up and the guides will show you berries! This makes up for the less exciting rapids. Also, and I'm sure this rarely happens, but the camera malfunctioned the day we were there and we didnt get pictures of our group. Bummer.

This was our first time driving into Duluth through Superior Wisconsin so we had to make a stop at Pattison State Park. Our favorite view of the Big Falls was from the parking area across the street from the park entrance ( you still need a park permit to park there). Short hike to the viewing area and they also have a selfie station to get a great picture in front of the falls. The colors were beautiful as we came in the fall time but I would love to come back in the spring to see the falls raging!

The bathrooms were clean for the most part but the showers were kind of gross- however some of that was due to other campers. They are also in the process of building a new shower/bathroom facility. The most standout part of our stay however was Ranger Chris. He was incredibly nice and helpful, especially towards my 5 year old who always has about a million questions and observations. Ranger Chris hooked him up (pun intended) with a series of much treasured "fish cards" and a neat activity book that we had fun completing as a family so my boy could earn a Wisconsin patch. Wade Stadium was my first baseball stop during my 2015 vacation where we watched the Duluth Huskies…read moretake on the Thunder Bay Border Cats. The stadium itself was easy to find...kind of. It was a little confusing because behind/beside Wade Stadium are several other fields which, at the time we arrived, were also being used for softball games. Ample parking is available in the lot that is surrounded by these fields. Once parked, we walked to and around the brick wall and found the official entrance for Wade Stadium and the home of the Duluth Huskies. We watched the home team win a good game while surrounded by a supportive local community. I bought a travel mug because the proceeds go to the Wade Stadium Renovation Project. The concession stands didn't have anything that really stood out. The team store had all your essentials. The stadium itself is currently a work in progress so it doesn't seem fair to be too harsh in judgement. I do like supporting local baseball clubs and would gladly return to Wade Stadium after renovations.

We went to see the Duluth Huskies, as a start of our summer outings. I called the main number and…read moreleft a message to get information about how accessible the park was. The Head Coach Daniel Hersey of the Huskies called me back and was very informative on how to get tickets, the handicapped accessibility, and how I would be able to sit together with my family. We went on a Sunday June 2nd, 2013 for the Family Pack, you get 4 hot dogs, 4 small sodas, and 2 popcorns for $30.00 on home games. But, we needed an extra ticket for KayMarie with the food options, as well. Head Coach Daniel Hersey said they would charge $10.00 extra for the ticket and food. When we got to the gate to purchase our tickets and mentioned that we needed an extra ticket with the food, it took them awhile to completely understand what we needed. I even told them that the head coach called me and that is the price he said. They charged us the extra $10.00, and we were in. The gate entrance was easily handicapped accessible, I was in my large chair which is bigger than the standard 32" chair. We didn't know where to go for the handicapped seating. The staff were kind, but they would just point directions. It would have been nice to have been ushered, since this was our first time here. We got to the handicapped seating, and there were steps that I had a hard time getting passed. A standard chair would fit just fine, but my chair had to be angled just right to get through. People had to wait for me to get through. They were kind, but I got a bent wheel out of it. The handicapped seating was right next to the teams dugout, which brought an added bonus for Christopher's and Jonathan's first experience at a baseball game. My family was able to sit with me in the handicapped seating area which was great. The Sunday we went, it was a Double Header, and staff had said there was going to be fireworks. But, there was not, which was a little disappointing. That's why we stayed for second game, but, in the long run, it was a long day. Another suggestion we have is having someone at the gate entrance directing visitors with kids to the information booth to sign up for the kids activity contests. Both Christopher and Jonathan asked where they could enter to try to win, we had to tell them that we were not sure. We did have a lot of fun watching the Huskies play and buying a baseball for the meet and greet at the end of the game. Jonathan got to meet the players, and had them sign the baseball. He was really excited to be that close to the players for his first time. It was hard to get the wheelchair through the grass to get to the players, because it was wet and muddy, but it was worth it. For a reasonable, fun time at the ballpark and to support our local team this is a STOP IN. Well, I think my review is slightly swayed that we caught 6 lake trouts. However, I think we were…read morelucky to have such a great captain and 1st mate, Rob and Kyler. We were a little late but they were waiting for us all setup. We made it off first under the foot bridge in the early morning at around 5:45AM. Then, my girlfriend's dad lost the first fish so then my girlfriend's sister reeled in the second fish. I was another 2-3 hours until we hit the jackpot and everyone in our party of 5 snatched a lake trout. Afterwards, Rob filleted our catch and Kyler took photos of us with the rod of 6 lake trouts. Hands down the most fun on my entire trip to Duluth. After getting back, my girlfriend's mom fried our catch which was delicious.

Because we split the fee among 5 people, the price was affordable. Unfortunately, Captain Peter completely spoiled the experience. The music he played was in poor taste, and he had a rude, sarcastic, and aggressive attitude. At one point, he yelled at us about how we were holding the fish for photos to protect his business image. Even worse, he physically grabbed one of our group members because they were standing in the wrong spot. His arrogant, disrespectful attitude spoiled what should have been a fun trip. Not one excuse would be acceptable or ever change what we experienced or how we feel. Our experience with Happy Hooker Charters Captain Pete was deeply disappointing we would not recommend this captain.

We enjoy the paddle boat rental, the office/store, the scenic views, the kind other campers along with the activities. We only live a half hour from Barnum but it is such a great place to camp. It is quickly becoming our favorite campground. The beaches are so well maintained and the lake is clear as glass. So worth the drive wherever you're coming from.

Our main beef is the bath house, its a hell hole and is in DIRE need of some TLC and some SERIOUS upgrading. Theres no ventilation, Poor lighting and the smell from lack of cleaning is deplorable. You don't really want to touch anything. You cannot lock the toilette stalls and the doors just swing open. This goes for both the mens and women's bath rooms, I guess the only thing good about it, is that its free.
