Every October, my wife and I like to enjoy a long weekend in the Hudson Valley. We'll go to farm stands, hiking trails, dine at local restaurants and stay at a cozy Bed & Breakfast. Over the years we've stayed at a few nice hotels. Minnewaska Lodge is now at the top of my favorite places. Minnewaska Lodge is centrally located to all of our favorite spots. Driving our Tesla from Long Island, we stopped for lunch at our favorite diner, charged up at a Tesla supercharger station and pulled into the Lodge parking lot around 3pm. The view is just commanding. This large lodge with the mountains as a back drop is post card perfect. After we received our keys and stored our luggage, we went to a local farm stand for a bottle of local wine as well as local cheese and crackers. I tried to light a fire but each deck heater had issues. Sitting outside and just enjoying the natural beauty was worth the room price. Not only was the staff friendly, the guests were also very engaging. Almost chipper! We're playing cards in the main dining room while sipping on our local wine purchase and people were stopping by to talk to us. It really made our overall stay extra special. Our room was equally impressive. We had an outdoor deck that opened up to the same view as the main lodge. The bed was comfortable, the shower products were high end and the welcome note was a nice touch. It was a short weekend but Minnewaska Lodge checked all the hospitality boxes to make our stay special. I cannot wait to return! read more

Booked a one night stay at the lodge for $498. The moment we got into the room, we found bugs all over the ceiling. We hardly spent 2-3 minutes in the room in total and did not use any amenities. The front desk manager inspected the room and agreed to the presence of bugs. She mentioned that she will have to talk to the Innkeeper, Eric, about the situation. We asked if there is any other room in the same price bracket that we have paid, so that we can move to that room. We were told that no other rooms were available. The InnKeeper arrived shortly at the lodge and gave us two options: #1 Stay in the same room after they "Clean" the bugs. #2 Leave the lodge without any refund. He falsely claimed that bugs entered the room because we opened the windows - which is a big lie as the front desk manager herself checked that the windows were closed. Moreover, the bugs were densely nested on one of the corners of the ceiling which tells that they have been there for quite sometime and definitely not for 2-3 minutes as mentioned by him. We chose to leave the lodge considering the health risks of sleeping in a room infested with bugs. I have repeatedly been asking the front desk if I can get email of the higher ups of the Inkeeper, but they declined to share the email id. They insist that they cannot do this without permission of Inkeeper. The lack of proper management and channels to address customer concerns is a major problem of this lodge. We felt that their only motive was to get the money out of our pocket. The whole experience has left a very sour taste in our mouths and we feel duped. read more

It was great vacationing here. The staff was informative and friendly. They had a fire pit that was lit every night from 6pm to about 11pm, which was awesome if you didn't have anything to do at night, but still wanted to enjoy the night before going to bed. It was very serene and quiet, if you're looking for that in a vacation than this is the spot. There is a convenient and restaurant store walking distance from the lodge, which is cool. My wife and I took a trip upstate recently just to get away for a few days. We decided to go with minnewaska lodge because it seemed a little nicer than the normal hotels on the highway. Overall the hotel and staff were great. The rooms were nice and the lodge had a warm feeling to it. My only small gripe is I wish it had a couple more amenities, maybe a pool or gym perhaps? However the free cookies and coffee in the lobby were excellent! Breakfast was very good and consisted of hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, cereals, muffins etc. Lots to choose from, and very good coffee too! We were supposed to stay longer but had a family emergency. A big thank you to Tammy and Rebecca who let us check out early and recuperate most of our money, it meant a lot to us. The surrounding towns are fairly quiet but the preserve and mountains seem like they would be great to adventure out on, as we only got to see them partially, due to the icy paths. I really enjoyed my stay overall. The grounds are beautiful and exactly as advertised. Very convenient to Minnewaska park and the town of new paltz. I was taking a somewhat solo trip and felt very safe here while being able to enjoy nature. The hotel room itself was simple, but neat and clean. Breakfast was great, bagels and fresh fruit and some apples from the local orchard. The desk staff was very nice and friendly. My only complaints are that the walls are really thin. I could hear everything my upstairs neighbor was doing. read more

Truly perfect as Eric the owner and manager has thought of every detail for guests' comfort and aesthetic senses. It pains me to write this because I have enjoyed many lovely stays at the Minnewaska Lodge. During the pandemic it was a haven for me to escape to. Sadly, it has changed management recently and, while the new owners are nice people, there have been a few changes that, although minor, have a noticeable effect on one's enjoyment of the establishment. I will outline them here in the hopes that the new management reads this and does their best to improve the situation. First of all, since the new management has arrived, the prices have steadily been raised. Where a weekend stay used to cost around $600 all in, it's now closer to $1,000. Part of this must be attributable to pandemic pricing being abnormally low but it still raises expectations from the guest that must be met. The Lodge was never cheap, considering that it is a lodge and not a luxury hotel, but I didn't mind paying the money because everything was just so right about it. When a few of those things are wrong, it makes the cost harder to justify to oneself and consequently the stay is a little soured. The Lodge used to excel in the details. It can't offer the luxury of a big hotel and that's fine. It knew what it was, which was basically a wonderfully clean motel with gorgeous views of the mountain and a few key details that made all the difference. Some of those details have changed. Whereas you used to be able to count on a hot shower after a long day hiking in the cold, now the water is tepid at best and then turns cold after a while. In the fall, it's a minor inconvenience; in the winter, that alone would stop me from returning. After your nice hot shower, while you were waiting to go to dinner, you used to be able to buy a glass of very good local wine at reception and drink it on the back porch overlooking the mountains. This is a great example of the little things that I described as being "just right" under the previous management. You forgot to bring a bottle of wine with you? No problem, the lodge had you covered. The new management has apparently let the liquor license lapse and there is no alcohol on sale. Breakfast used to be served in the main hall; it has now been moved to the lobby, which used to be a pleasant place to sit in an armchair after a long drive up and is now cluttered with half-cleared buffet tables. The only apparent motivation for this is to cram more tables into the main hall. This is obviously a minor quibble but part of the appeal of a mountain lodge is its ability to help you to relax and unwind. Aesthetics and use of space are key to this and this just seems like such a bizarre and unnecessary change. Lastly, while the staff used to be friendly, courteous, and extremely helpful, the new staff simply are not. When we informed them of the aforementioned hot water issue, we were not offered an apology or assured that it would be investigated, but rather the claim was disputed. They seem like nice enough people and I understand that the service sector is difficult but it really seems like they don't enjoy their jobs and should reconsider whether they want to own a mountain lodge. If all the above were changed, I would gladly return to the Lodge several times a year. If it remains as it is now, I would have to reconsider coming back because it really is too expensive for a stay that isn't "just right". read more

I had the pleasure of staying here for a much needed weekend getaway and let me tell you this lodge delivered. I had the most relaxing and peaceful stay. Definitely what I needed to recharge. Eric was super friendly as well as the entire staff. I have a very weird obsession with gnomes and this place had fairy gardens !!! I even bought some spring gnomes for them in hopes Eric would add it to their fairy set up. The lodge is dog friendly and while my furry friend didn't accompany me on this trip, it was so nice seeing the other puppers have fun on the property. The fire pits were amazing. The lodge is has amazing scenery that you view as you pull into parking lot with mountains just past the rear of lot. The lodge itself offers breakfast and a nice place to meet and chit chat with fellow visitors each morning. The rooms are spacious and clean. Great place for a romantic getaway or just a quiet time vacation. We brought our 3 boys and they had a great time as well. Every night thy light up 2 gas fire pits and even offer s'mores. The state park is about 3 miles away with swimming and numerous trails of different difficulties. There's also an amazing waterfall there. If you need food or dining, you only need to drive 6 miles to the nearest town and they have loads of neat small specialty shops and restaurants. The lodge itself has fast WiFi (but you won't be using it on this getaway). The only negative, if you take it as a negative, is the lodge itself is aged. It has aged well from what we witnessed. This is a very comfortable lodge in a beautiful setting and a great location that gives easy access to the trails and beautiful vistas of this area. We greatly appreciated the friendly and helpful staff who made us feel at home. The room was spacious and clean and the bed very comfortable. We were very impressed by Eric, the General Manager and owner, and greatly enjoyed talking with him. He has wonderful plans for renovating and adding to the Lodge which just adds to our looking forward to staying there in the future. read more

Lodge is nice, staff is good and they try. For the price we paid it is really expensive. The rooms are spartan at best. It is equivalent to a Hampton or Motel 6 style. Really spartan accommodations and limited room immenities. We stayed over multiple nights with our dog which made it convenient. The bed was not very good ( mattress needs to be replaced) and walls thin. We heard an adjacent family arguing constantly. Breakfast is good. This is a 130-150per night property yet they are charging luxury rates. Must be a function of supply and demand. This could be a killer spot if they upgraded the bathrooms, provided consistent HVAC and insulated the walls. The walking trails are nice in the back but the trails are not well maintained so if you are elderly or have difficulty walking be careful. There is no luggage cart and stairs up to the lodge and to certain rooms. There is no bar, no room service so besides breakfast you are on your own. At $130 a night I would give it a 3.5. At $400+ two stars is generous. read more

Beautiful location with a view of the rocks out back, but housekeeping is a weak point. Had to plunge and clean my own toilet. Reading other reviews this is a theme. If it was $50/night, then I think I could just deal with it. But not for $200-300/night. Simple oatmeal and fruit breakfast. The rooms can be a bit creaky and noise travels easily from room to room so you have to be quiet. Unfortunately our toilet clogged during our visit. I let the front desk person know (short lady in her 50s) and she offered to find me a plunger. I was shocked that she offered this. I told her I'd be out the whole day and would ask about it later. Upon return it was plunged, but a mess everywhere! Still stuff dirty in the toilet. Scum on the rim. Ewww. It's like they did it angrily and left in a hurry. Whatever I cleaned it up myself, but will never go back to this place. What a disappointment. read more

Reason for low rating is experience with angry belligerent housekeeper, who called my private cell after we left raving and screaming about some supposed issue. Hung up the phone, two major points here. One, under no circumstances should my private data have been released to any random and clearly unauthorized personnel, as this is the not just bad practice but also violation of trust and data and personal privacy. Second, allowing a clearly belligerent and angry staff member to make the call to a customer is clearly very poor business practice. We had a wonderful stay at the lodge. Last time we had been here was almost 22 years ago. The room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom amenities were very nice. The shower was hot and had good water pressure. We enjoyed our stay as much as we did then. It is a great location to explore the area. We went hiking in Minnewaska State Park on Saturday before we checked in. We had dinner at Garvin's pub. It was delicious. We slept in Sunday so we missed the breakfast. They do have water, coffee and tea available all day. The back patio and yard is beautiful with chairs to sit in and relax. My husband was surprising me with a night away. By accident he booked with booking.com. It was very deceiving when you google the lodge and then hit the button to make a reservation. Beware always go to the website and book there. Our reservation was charged $240 in fees. We immediately tried to cancel but because it was less than 24 hours until our stay they would not cancel it. We decided to go anyway. When we got to the lodge we told them about our unfortunate experience, which of course was not there fault. The owner (of only 1 year) was so upset about this she called booking.com and had our reservation with them cancelled. Please visit. You will not be sorry. read more

There is no denying Minnewaska Lodge has a spectacular location. The views of the Shawangunk Ridge cliffs from the large deck or through the wall of windows in the living room are fantastic. As opposed to the views and location, the accommodations are meh. While the furnishing evoke the "park lodge" vibe, the overall feel of the rooms and public areas is that of "church retreat" or Holiday Inn Express. As other reviewers have noted, a major drawback is the lack of sound proofing. It seems as if there is little to no insulation in the walls, floors/ceilings, thus you can hear pretty much everything going on next door or above you (conversations, TV, foot steps across the floor). I'd describe the service class as DIY. On the upside the staff is very friendly. read more

In mid August, 7 days after our mother passed way, the family made a reservation at Minnewaska Lodge (for their most expensive suite!)  as a home base for a ceremony of scattering mom's ashes. She had a special love of the area and we wanted to honor her in the way, when the family reconvened after Thanksgiving. We knew we needed to plan ahead to be sure to have a location to gather for the memorial. Carlos, Director of reservation, confirmed our date months ago. This morning, October 22nd, he notified us that to accommodate a private party the hotel decided to cancel our reservation. I asked that Carlos use his contacts in the area to find us another hotel, and shockingly, he refused. This is the worst customer relations I have seen in quite a while. Let's start by saying we paid nearly $600 for 2 nights. We booked at a rate of $242 per night and when we checked in we were told the first nights rate was now $329. I gave the place 2 stars because some of the staff was very pleasant, the others not so pleasant. LIKE THE HOUSEKEEPER which banged on our door like the FBI the day we checked out. The first night we were asked to lower our TV which was not loud. THE YANKEE GAME WAS ON. in all fairness the walls are thin. We heard everything our neighbors were doing too. Firstly the guy at the front desk (George) was amazing we had an issue with our bank declining our room and he remained patient and helpful running the card like 100 times until the bank finally authorized the transaction. He also gave great reviews on the local fare. The property is very nice with a few fire pits and some trails on property. It has an authentic log cabin, granola vibe, simple, friendly, beautiful, a window into nature at its finest. This is a great place to stay if you want a relaxing trip, good coffee, close proximity to New Paltz, and want to enjoy all that Shawangunks has to offer. read more

Each year or so takes its toll on this once chic inn. In definite need of refurbishment. Shabby carpeting, tired fixtures in rooms and clogged shower heads to name some. Room rates far exceed the value you receive. Breakfast quality has also declined. Where fresh apple strudel was once baked in the quality kitchen, packaged muffins and croissants from a grocery store shelf now appear on the buffet table. Sadly, even the apples had grocery store stickers when, a mile or so down the road, local orchards sell fresh apples. Great location adjacent to Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park, and the Mountain Brauhaus, one of the best restaurants in the Hudson Valley. The word is that this hotel has just been sold. Hopefully to someone willing to invest in bringing this place up to the level it deserves. read more

Stayed here five years ago and it was grand. Now I am sad to report it's a dump! We stood at the desk for a good 20 minutes waiting to be checked in even though there were two people working. While standing there I thought man someone really needs to wash the windows and doors. Then we finally got to our room it was a run down mess. Not sure how they have any guest at the rate they charge. I have seen cleaner better kept Howard Johnson's. In good news there is a new Hampton Inn just a few miles away! You need to be careful when you read the reviews of this place. Most travelers are rating the beautiful surroundings. Yes, the Gunks are a five stars place. But anyone can rent a camping spot a couple of meters higher up the road with the exact same view. The facilities is at best okay. You get a bed, which was okay and a bathroom inside your room, with a shower tube and no way to get a proper bath. In the morning, do not count on hot water for your shower if you are not taking it before 7am. This is apparently a recurring issue but the owner has decided not to act on it. So, no hot shower for you. I had to take my shower with a bucket. The last time I did that in a hotel, I had paid $5 for the night, not $220!! As for the breakfast, at best average, -and I think I got better at some Motels. No hot dishes. Only cereals, fruits and bread with choice of one apple jam. I come to the Gunks quite often to rock climb. I have stayed in many places that are way cheaper and where I have had a better experience than last night. For the price, you deserve a hot shower. Do not book until you call the facility and make sure this issue has been fixed. And, frankly speaking, if what you are looking for is a getaway from it all, know that there are better value for the price option in the area. Don't waiste your money on a cheap owner. read more

During our time here over the thanksgiving week to hike and climb, the manager made sure to invite us to the thanksgiving dinner that he had made rather than us eating our boxed dinner from Shoprite. The conversation was great, the staff always greeted us in the morning while heading out to climb and welcomed us when we came back in. While it was only 30 degrees during our stay the hotel was always warm and inviting, no ice on the steps or deck as the staff cleared it and sitting by the fireplace each night, the manager would always check in with us. I travel for a living and this was by far one of the best stays I've had in the last year. read more

This was my first time staying here. Nice lodge with beautiful view in the back. Housekeeping left a little to be desired. The rooms were not left properly cleaned. Beds were not made and drinking glasses that we used the night before were left behind. We didn't get any fresh towels either. The breakfast the first morning was not great either. My brother had to ask for everything to be replaced as it was not checked on. There was nothing warm served. It was a bit disappointing. Don't think I will stay here again. read more

Learned my lesson today....... Read customer reviews!!!!! We were looking forward to a nice weekend away visiting some of the local sites. So we booked a room at the Minnewaska Lodge. Unfortunately a national emergency has been declared due to the Corona virus. That had forced many of the tourist sites in the area to close their visitors centers temporarily. We called hoping to receive credit on our stay due to the EXTREME circumstances as you would receive with majority of hotels. With that credit, re book for an additional night on top of that so we could see the sites we wanted. By doing so we would have spent more money with them then initially planned. But the response we got was very suprising. It was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL response and basically blamed us for booking with them. So for anyone looking to book here, it does not seem to matter if there is a national emergency declared by the president, death in the family or any other extreme circumstances. No concession will be made for you and you will be treated very poorly for even asking. Do not book here!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I was originally supposed to check in on November 15th but we got hit with a snowstorm that ended up being worse than everyone expected. We were coming from 2 hours away and we attempted the drive but it was too dangerous so we turned around. Long story short, we missed our first night's stay. We left as soon as we could the next day. Upon our arrival we were greeted at the door by Rebecca, I believe, who asked if she could help us? I said we were checking in and she said well just so you know check in isn't until 3pm, we were there by noon. I told her we were already checked in because I called the night before to let them know that we wouldn't be able to make it and if we could get some kind of reimbursement or complimentary something as I was treating my boyfriend for his birthday and wanted it to be special and there was nothing we could do about the road conditions. She immediately knew who I was and promptly said there was nothing she could do and they have no snow policy. She then offered 2 complimentary canned La Croix waters which was unbelievably insulting after losing $200 for the night. The room (108): I said to her (half serious) well do we have the best room? She said oh yea, it's forest view with a deck, which is what I requested so I was excited! When the card for the door didn't work after a couple attempts and she let us into our room, I was vastly disappointed! Out the window is the side walk and side entry and the view out the door to the deck was the deck, with a few planted trees in front and the parking lot. I could see cars pull up, park and people walking into the lodge. There is no fridge, no movie channel (basic cable only). We planned on hiking and being outside but at night to wind down or enjoy what I thought was going to be a forest view room, it would have been a nice option. Breakfast was similar to that of Holiday Inn only no hot eggs, sausage... it's truly continental. I am going to wrap this up by saying I was in hotels/restaurants for 15 years and I didn't expect the Taj Mahal when I booked this place as I am originally from the New Paltz area but I did expect hospitality. No attempt was made to go above and beyond. There was an exchange for which that hotel benefitted from my money and absolutely no exchange of gratitude or empathy was given in return. I would recommend an Air B&B over this Lodge. I was super disappointed with the entire experience (albeit the location beautiful) I would never stay there again. Angela White read more

We came here because it's one of the only places that allows children but isn't flowery and frilly. The rooms are a good size, and it's comfortable and attractive. You can choose between a kind bed or two doubles. They will provide a pack and play if you need one. The cliff views are amazing, and the balconies are big enough for two people to sit comfortably. It's buggy, but then, it's nature! The breakfast provided is very nice, and it's simple. Yoghurt, hard-boiled eggs, toast, cereal, different fruit, cinnamon rolls, juices...you get the idea. It's replenished often, so you don't have to be there when it first starts. There are chocolate chip (sometimes with peanut butter, I think) cookies in the afternoon, and there is always water and coffee and tea available. There is a small fitness center with a couple of treadmills, some weights, and towels. There's also a water cooler in the fitness center. My only complaint is that the sound-proofing between floors seems lacking. We heard our upstairs neighbors snoring, walking, talking. So, I'm sure they heard our baby wake up hungry at 3 AM. But he only cried for a minute; the other guy snored all night long. The staff is very friendly, especially in the morning. The evening staff doesn't have much to do, so you'll find them usually checking out YELP on their computers. Either that or probably funny animal photos, right? ;) My one suggestion would be to have a pool, but that wouldn't go along with the environmental philosophy of the lodge. There is the county pool about five minutes away, and it looked really nice. It's $7 to get in, even if you don't live in Ulster County. I think that's really nice. I'd go back, but my husband was more annoyed with the noise than I was. So maybe we'll be there again, and maybe we won't. I suggest a stay. read more

I reserved their best room for New Year's Eve and was very impressed. The cliff view was spectacular, the balcony was a good size for two people, service was good, everything was very clean. Really couldn't be happier. I'm sure this place is a much better value than Mohonk Mountain House a few miles away, which has rooms that start at about double this hotel's best option. New Paltz is also only a few miles away, where my date and I had an awesome sushi dinner. Lots of places to eat in New Paltz, really nice having it so close by, yet able to escape it all in Minnewaska. The day of arrival we hiked around Minnewaska Lake (highly recommended!) and the following day to the Skytop at Mohonk, also very nice. Overall a great trip. read more

Went here for our 1st Anniversary in Nov (2013). This is the cutest place! I loved our room (cliff view w/ deck), and the fire pits outside were a nice touch. Breakfast is in the Great Room where coffee, tea & cocoa is available possibly 24hrs. don't remember. Also, cookies! At all times :) Room was clean & tidy, WIFI is free and the shower curtain was colorful & plaid. No fridge in the room, but I have a feeling you could ask the desk to put something in the kitchen fridge. They also have wine glasses, should you want to have some wine while sitting outside at the fire-pit (which they turn off at 10, but let us stay until 10:30). We are SO glad we went here instead of Mohonk Mountain House-who can afford that place! It is close to Mohonk Preserve hiking, lake Minnewaska State Park & across the street from Mountain Brauhaus (you MUST eat there). read more

At night, there are fire pits to relax by and in the morning fresh breakfast to take in the views with. Fresh cookies every day! The staff was also helpful in advising in things to do during the day. First of all the scenery was amazing. Uh Maze Ing. Secondly, the place was awesome. It was very clean and the staff was always visible. They have coffee and tea all day and had apple pie and apple cider as well as cookies out at night. Oh, they also had a more packets pure made for the fire pits. I loved it here and there was so much to do. Angry Orchard Brewery, Hudson Whiskey Distillery, a few wineries, the town of New Paltz was very nice, lots of shops and bars. But I loved getting up in the morning and relaxing in the mission style great room at the lodge. OH! You must must must get a 2nd floor Cliff view!!!! Pulling up to the Minnewaska Lodge, I was immediately struck by its charm. Maybe because it was January 1st and the lodge's Christmas decorations were shining sweetly in the snow-covered landscape. Maybe because it's based on a random road not in the dead center of town. While the rooms and interior weren't as rustic and charming as the outside, I still think this is a great place to stay if you happen to be visiting the area. Although I imagine there is much more to see and do during the summertime. The free continental breakfast is GREAT and we made ample use of their boardgames in the main room (although weren't allowed to BYOB). Just 6 miles down the road from New Paltz, we were able to drive down there for some decent evening meals. We also got some great information from the ladies behind the front desk about local trails and a whiskey distillery that gives tours. There are far worse places to start a new year! read more

Staff is so friendly and nice. The hotel is cozy and they used to have a breakfast buffet available but do you COVID you just let them know what you want from the options available (currently 2) and they will have it ready for you. The campfire is awesome just wish there was a time limit as at times it was full but if you're willing to join others it's fine. We also did the trail behind the hotel which was challenging but beautiful. Highly recommend. read more
