We were looking for an all inclusive to take my mom for a girls weekend and I just stumbled upon this place not knowing that it was insanely popular and also not aware that there was a mystery weekend. Once I booked it and asked around I realized that Mohonk has a huge following especially for the mystery weekend. I was excited to also learn that there was an Edward Gorey art exhibit! 2&1/2 hours from my house, not a bad drive! Check in time was at 4:00 but we got there early so they stored our luggage and said that they would deliver it to our room and call us when it was ready. We got a quick bite in the bar area which was not included in the weekend but we were starving! Then we looked around and went to a healing bowl meditation in the spa area. It was so relaxing, a great start to the weekend. They called us to come get our key and we went up to the room. It was Victorian looking with a balcony that had rocking chairs and 2 beds. Very pretty. The bathroom was big and had a walk in shower. It think it was a handicapped room. I didn't request one but when I called to make the reservation I inquired about how difficult it would be for a person to get around with a walker so perhaps they took the hint. The resort was massive!! And also beautiful to look at inside and out. It was also extremely clean with fresh flowers all over the place and little nooks to sit in to look outside and take in the views. The mystery weekend was so much fun. It was a play in 4 parts and by Sunday at 10 am you had to submit your guess as to "whodunnit". Just like a real life game of clue. There was also a thick packet of puzzles and games to try to solve by looking all over the hotel at the artwork to solve them. We ended up skipping that packet because we wanted a more relaxing experience. We did participate in the tabletop escape room which was really fun. We also skipped an afternoon tea on Saturday that let you interact with the characters and ask them questions to help try to solve the murder mystery. Instead we went to the spa for 2 different meditation classes. We repeated the sound bowl from the day before and also took another one which was part lecture and part meditation. I think we were supposed to choose between the mystery weekend and the regular stay which included the classes because there was so much to do besides participating in the mystery activities that we couldn't get to any other resort activities without skipping the mystery activities. We loved the mystery activities but decided that next time we would go for a relaxing spa type of stay. As far as the food, it was delicious and a lot of it! There was breakfast, brunch/lunch and dinner. We opted out of the breakfast and went to brunch both days which was a buffet with breakfast and lunch options. There were also stations to get freshly made food such as pasta, waffles, carving stations and a whole dessert area. The food was definitely upscale. For dinner it was a sit down with a waiter and a 3 course meal. The dinners took forever! First came the bread which was freshly baked and amazing, then we ordered the appetizer and the entire. The appetizers took a long time to come out but the entree took at least 45 min to arrive both nights. On Friday night we had to be at the first installment of the murder mystery play at 9:00 and our dinner came at 8:50! We took a few bites and had to leave. They were nice enough to tell us to stop back later to pick up our dessert to eat in the room. I enjoyed the brunch more than the dinners to be honest, the fish dish I had one night was extremely bland. Second night, same snafu but we did not have to be anywhere at 9pm so we stuck it out. If there were 1/2 stars this place would rate a 4&1/2 in my book. The 1/2 being taken because of the dinners and the price of the weekend. Now that I am on the mailing list, they are sending me some better deals and specials. I'll definitely be back to take advantage of those! read more

I've seen Mohonk Mountain House morph from a laid back lodge with no spa, no air conditioning, and no alcohol served in public areas (due to its conservative Quaker origins) - to the semi-bougie, craft cocktail serving venue it is today. Has the place improved over the years? Well that's all a matter of perspective. Personally I miss the old days, but I'm a bit of a cranky eccentric. This review is based on a midweek stay during the peak of autumn foliage, a lovely time to visit when the weather cooperates. The hotel itself is old and charming with wonky floors and wild patterned carpeting, but well maintained and immaculate. Pricing is all inclusive (no tipping, yay!) with three meals a day and afternoon tea thrown in. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, taken in a large room with high ceilings alongside hundreds of other guests. It's kind of like a fancy summer camp, with service from the mostly young staff ranging from friendly and responsive to adequate. The food is very good, especially the omelettes at breakfast (which include ingredients like lobster and local cheeses), as well as their addictive home baked pastries. You won't leave Mohonk hungry (or thinner!), that's for sure. The main draw at Mohonk for me are the natural gardens and beautifully groomed hiking trails, which range from easy to steep and strenuous. I've downgraded my hiking choices over the years to match my waning fitness level, but there's truly something for everyone. Numerous activities offered: large indoor pool, guided hikes, axe throwing lessons, archery, meditation, evening lectures and live music in the parlor. Paddle boats, canoes and rowboats are available to explore the beautiful lake at no extra charge. The spa is pricey but a wonderful experience, and includes use of an outdoor mineral whirlpool set amidst trees that I love, as well as sauna and steam room on your day of service. Room decor varies, so check the website carefully before reserving. We usually go for the Victorian style rooms which come with a working fireplace and ornate wood moldings. Sound insulation in the vintage building is sketchy which may impact your rest time (depending on your neighbors) but there's no late night partying, in fact the place is dead quiet at night. I rode the elevators and walked around late one night when I couldn't sleep and saw no one at all, not even at the front desk. The spirits of past owners and residents were the only ones in evidence. Be aware that they routinely offer "kids stay and eat free" promotions during summer months, resulting in hordes of noisy youngsters taking over the place. I check their website carefully and try to book when these promos are Not in effect lol. I'll always have a soft spot for Mohonk, a very special place and a true haven from modern stress. read more

Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but honestly... it's kind of worth selling a kidney for the peace, views, and sheer joy it brings (kidding! ...mostly). It's one of those rare spots where you can actually hear yourself relax while soaking in the beauty of nature. The meals? Sublime. I'm still thinking about them. The activities and staff? Absolutely fantastic. We did archery today, and Dylan, the director, made me feel like a slightly clumsy but very enthusiastic woodland hero. So much fun! And of course, the labyrinth rock scramble--with the iconic Fat Man's Misery and Lemon Squeeze--was an adventure I'll be bragging about until someone makes me stop. Truly a blast. I'm here celebrating my sister's birthday,we get back to room around 10:15 and the next thing you know, someone is knocking on door. Saying. Can you open the door and I said no , they did not identify themselves and said they had a noise complaint. I never heard of such a thing in my life. I didn't realize you're not allowed to laugh in your room past a certain time. We get in trouble for a noise complaint and then our neighbors upstairs haven't stopped making noise for the last half hour, but we're not complaining. read more

Mohonk is simply amazing. Our big extended family has visited a few times over the years, and every time we leave feeling relaxed and happy--kids included. It's the perfect place to recharge: rocking chairs overlooking the lake, boating, hiking, swimming, horseback riding, tennis, afternoon tea, BBQs... there's so much to do for everyone. Yes, the rooms are a bit dated and the bathrooms aren't exactly luxurious, but the old-world charm is part of the experience, and everything else more than makes up for it. My husband went here as a child, and now our little one enjoys it too. We're skipping this year for the US Open, but hopefully we'll be back next year. read more

Mohonk is a dreamy, mountain escape only a short drive away from NYC! My mom and I love coming here and this past week was our 4th visit. The scenery is spectacular and we ended up with a renovated room with a lake view... an upgrade we didn't expect! There are gorgeous hiking trails, a boat rental dock, horseback riding, and much more. The meals are included. We love the wide variety of options in the breakfast and lunch buffets and dinner is a 3 course meal. The menu changes nightly and we have had some fantastic meals here. This past weekend we did horseback riding for the first time. You do need to reserve this ahead of time, but we absolutely loved it! I can't wait to do it again next time. We also LOVE the spa here and had a fantastic massage. Their mineral hot tub is also great and only for spa guests. Loved that they also have a sauna, eucalyptus steam room, and this mineral salt heated pool you can hang out in between your treatments. I tried the Mohonk Muscle Rescue ($260 for 60 min), which sounds intense for overused muscles. But, honestly, it was mostly Swedish-style, super chill and relaxing, but not quite the deep muscle relief I was hoping for. In terms of effectiveness it was a 3/5 for me The Skin Awakening Ritual ($230 for 60 min) was a nice, gentle body exfoliation. The loofahs and warm oil felt good, and my skin felt smoother afterward, but I didn't notice any huge, lasting difference. I'd give it a 3.5/5. The services themselves were nice, and the view is beautiful. But, I gotta say, for what it's worth the value just wasn't really there. read more

My husband and I needed a weekend getaway but we didn't want to get on plane just for a short weekend, so we researched options within a couple of hours of New York and found Mohonk Mountain House. The pictures looked beautiful and reviews were good, so we decided to give it a shot and we're glad we did. The Mohonk Mountain House is an all-inclusive type resort and it's kind of a throwback to the type of place you'd see in movies like "Dirty Dancing". The rooms are in a big lodge, there's a like, lots of outdoor activities (hiking, biking, tomahawk throwing) and there are a lot of programs available in the resort and the spa. Everything is included, including your meals. The resort is beautiful. If you like old hotels, you'll love this. Lots of stonework and beautiful woodwork everywhere. We had a lakefront room which came with a terrace and rocking chairs. Unfortunately it was a cold weekend and we actually got five inches of snow so we didn't get to use it much, but we did go out a couple of times. After an orientation session with the concierge, we went to our first dinner, which was fine. Service was very nice, but I was kind of surprised that some of the other customers thought that they were dining at the Four Seasons or something and making crazy demands of the wait staff. The dining room is literally a family restaurant and it's included so it was confusing to me why I saw people at every meal getting upset about stuff. The theme the weekend we were there was Magic and Mindbenders so we caught a magic show the first night and it was really good. Maybe a little corny, but fun for a family crowd. The next day we woke up to snow but we had massages scheduled in the spa. Since we were getting treatments we could hang out all day there so we first went to the pool (which is available to all guests staying at the property) and that was very nice. It's in a beautiful room with high ceilings and giant windows. There were a lot of kids in the pool so it wasn't as relaxing as we would have liked so we went to the outdoor mineral hot spa in the spa and that was amazing. It was snowing so it was incredible to be in a warm mineral bath while snow was falling on your head. We then showered and got our massages, which were great. One thing to note is that tipping isn't recommended anywhere in the resort. It says on the website and they tell you when you check in that you don't need to tip because it's built into the price. It's nice they clarify. Later that day, we did a few classes including a Singing Bowl Meditation and the History of a Cocktail. Both were fun. The second night, we had a late dinner (and the meals that night were better than the first night...they have rotating menus) and then went to the featured magic show, which was not as good as the first one we saw. The last day, we had breakfast and went to one last magic show and then checked out. We really like the room we had. It was comfortable and clean and the lake view was spectacular. Since it had snowed so much and we hadn't packed for it, we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor portion of the resort but hopefully we'll go back in warmer weather. Everyone who works there is so nice and helpful and really made you feel welcome. Well, except for Brenda at the spa. She was super unpleasant and our brief interaction with her nearly ruined our day...luckily the meditation class we took shortly after that nasty encounter helped us recover. But seriously, she should not be working in any role that requires direct contact with humans. This experience was nice but it's not cheap. For the two of us for two nights, it was about $2700 plus another $500+for the massages. However, considering that includes food, classes and entertainment, I think it's a decent value. I've been vacationing and visiting Mohonk with my family since I was little. There are so many trails to explore around the house and on the preserve nearby. There are also so many activities to do at the house: kids club for little ones, lots of nature hikes, evening shows, and campfire singalongs. If you're someone who wants to relax, Mohonk has that too. They have a nice spa and you can get massages and there is a small massage house that looks out over the lake and at SkyTop. The food there is always great. Though I recommend the main dinning room over the granary. Mohonk has many activities and your experience really depends on which ones you choose. I highly recommend the lemon squeeze up to skytop and giants workshop to humpty dumpty. They are must dos for anyone visiting for the first time. read more

Our family just enjoyed a terrific weekend. This is the 30th year anniversary from our first stay. The food quality this stay was excellent. The rooms are clean and quiet. Old fashioned and yet updated. We enjoyed a lot of rock climbing, playing frisbee golf, loved the band and magic shows at night and just relaxing with the tea and cookies. A dream on the mountain. I attended a winter conference and stayed in a lakeview room on a magically high floor with a fireplace & a huge bathtub. Just heavenly. The fireplace is so simple to light with these foot long matches and a special instant light brick that resembles a graham cracker. The entire place actually reminds me of a very upscale nursing home with rockers and sitting areas scattered all around. Warm & cozy, relaxing & laid back. The food is beyond any conference dining hall that it may even qualify for a Michelin Star. One dish after the other stood out. Coffee & tea with some snacks awaiting you in different areas. I did not use the spa, but it looked like a wonderful treat. The many conference rooms, some huge and some more intimate, are outfitted with all of the modern technology to host your event. Of course, the grounds are the star here. A view in an direction that you turn, hiking, ice skating and long porches to sit back & take it all in. At night, fire pits & smores. A couple of weekends ago, my husband and I were looking for a quick getaway--not too far from New York--and we came across Mohonk Mountain House. The photos were stunning, and the reviews were glowing, so we decided to book it together. We chose the Victorian room package and couldn't wait to experience it for ourselves. From the moment we started driving down the long, scenic entrance road, we felt ourselves start to unwind. When we caught our first glimpse of the historic building, we were completely blown away. It's hard to describe just how beautiful and peaceful the whole property is. The hotel is over 150 years old and absolutely full of charm. Walking through the front doors felt like crossing into another world--one where everything outside just faded away. We stayed in a gorgeous lakeview room (Room 356), which even had a cozy terrace. Just a heads-up: many of the rooms are adjoining, which is good to know when booking. That first evening, we had a delicious dinner (make sure to make reservations!) and then caught a fun magic show. There's a great lineup of daily activities for all kinds of interests. The next day was our spa day, and it was the absolute highlight of the trip. After breakfast with a view of the lake, we started with a dip in the outdoor heated mineral pool--and to our delight, it started snowing while we were soaking! Floating in warm water with snowflakes falling around us felt surreal and magical. After that, we enjoyed a couples massage that left us completely relaxed, followed by a sound bowl meditation session that helped us feel centered and calm. It was the perfect way to end a rejuvenating day. We honestly didn't want to leave. The whole experience felt authentic, restorative, and unforgettable. If you're looking for a peaceful, luxurious escape close to the city, Mohonk Mountain House is a gem. We're already talking about when we can go back. Recently stayed here for 2 nights as part of a school retreat. I didn't want to leave! The food was top notch, the environment was very relaxing, and there was a lot to do! We had perfect weather- we were able to hike & do water activities. Didn't have time to make it to the indoor pool. My only wish is that they had an outdoor pool. Had an amazing time with my kids hiking, scrambling, rowing, swimming, and trying out other activities at the resort. One of my kids spent time at the kids club and got to do archery, which he loved. The best part for us was experiencing the Labyrinth and Lemon Squeeze which was truly a highlight and such a great bonding experience. Nothing you see in pictures compares to the actual beauty of this amazing place. Beautiful trails and expert naturalists highlighted our visit. The staff was exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable. The rooms spacious and the beds comfy with the softest sheets. Gourmet food served at mealtimes with cookies at tea. The interior and exterior were prestine with everything in top shape for use and enjoyment. Please be sure to visit the Barn Museum which was delightful and unexpected! Our family of six(children 8 and younger) had a very disappointing experience at Mohonk. We tried several times to make dinner reservations by phone, but no one ever answered or returned our calls. When we arrived, we were told we couldn't be seated because we didn't have a reservation -- even after explaining that we'd tried repeatedly to book. We also had trouble booking activities, with the same lack of response. When we expressed our frustration about the dinner situation, staff didn't try to help or walk us through options -- instead, they simply offered a full refund, we left in the rain at 8pm with young children. Ridiculous. The property itself feels tired and is not kid-friendly at all. We ended up leaving and would not return. Very disappointing for a place with such a strong reputation. I'll start with the positives: three stars for the beautiful mountain view and attentive service. The hot, crusty bread was a great start, and my onion soup was enjoyable. However, the rest of the meal would only get two stars. The New York sirloin steak was on the dry side, and the seafood squid ink pasta with crab meat was more about the pasta than the seafood. Mohonk lives on in our memory. Whenever we get down we can think of our time at Mohonk. There is a reason they use this place as the afterlife for the show Upload. It feels ethereal almost. You feel closer to nature. The rooms and hotel are wonderful. You have a relaxing balcony. All the food was delicious. Everyone we encountered was so friendly. We did this for a family reunion and they were all extremely accommodating and helped make it a trip to remember. My family booked a week-long stay for somewhat of a family reunion, and while I was initially skeptical of the property due to a few reviews, I'm happy to report that the mid ratings were absolutely unfounded. The place is amazing, and the amount of activities to enjoy are mind-boggling. The staff is wonderfully accommodating, and the building and grounds are well maintained. Vintage but nicely updated. My Room: Lake view king on the 5th floor. Immediately upon entering I could smell the wood burning fireplace, and while turned off by the smell initially it became quite charming and defined the stay. I miss that smell already. Sort of campfire and coffee. The room was icy cold for a hot July day but I shut off the A/C for the entire stay, opened the solid door to the patio revealing a screened door, and kept the fresh air flowing day and night. The luxury of sleeping with fresh air flowing through the screen, the ceiling fan on low, and a completely silent lake was just heaven. Bed was super comfortable. Lakeview Breakfast: Perfect way to start the day with fresh local yogurt, berries and house made granola. You'll feel great for that morning walk/hike. One suggestion, while I was informed to bring a water bottle as every floor has a filtered water station, I wish it had been suggested to bring an insulated coffee bottle. The coffee, while drinkable, is not super hot, and if you fill one of their paper cups and sit outside or take it to your room, it's now barely warm. There are no reusable mugs available either, so if you want hot coffee from Lakeside, bring your own double walled cup or thermos. Dining: Founders is fantastic and more intimate, make those reservations well in advance. Servers are super kind but beware, the food can take a very long time to come out. Sometimes over an hour per course. The drawback besides only being open on certain days, is that the menu never changes. Main dining rotates between three main menus which is nice and always varies a bit. Everything I ate, no matter the venue, was fantastically delicious. There are so many choices at every meal, and the presentation of each dish is surprisingly good. Granary is so much fun for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was rather limited but the lunch and dinner was awesome. Needless to say I ate a LOT on this trip, and all of it was delicious. Enjoy yourself because between walks/hikes, using the stairs, walking the property, you will definitely get your steps in. Activities: So many hiking trails, but make the walk around the lake your first, then you can expand from there. Definitely try the Labyrinth rock scramble, it's challenging. I love swimming and I never went to the pool, the outdoor beach and diving board are so much fun, and 100% do the lake swim, where for an hour window a couple times a day you can leave the beach area for a swim to a designated rock across the lake and back. The lake water is very clear and I never left smelling like a lake. I also loved paddle boarding and kayaking. In summary, the place offers breathtaking natural beauty, a super cool historic hotel, and hardworking staff. I love that it's mostly all-inclusive and that there is no tipping, even at the spa. Go for the massage, stay for the burger! Kid you not, the burger they make at The Carriage House is the most perfectly-charred classic burger I've had (and I'm burger-obsessed). We came for just the day and got two massages, hung out in the mineral pool, sauna, steam room, and got a la carte lunch at The Carriage House (since the lunch buffet for non-guests is astronomical, literally $270 per person). The burger and the views and mineral pool were the best part. The whole place is so cozy and epic, classic and charming, full of families just relaxing around with books and games for hours - really adorable. Too bad it's so expensive to stay here, but glad we got to spend the day. It's so much more affordable and almost the same experience. We explored New Paltz after and had such a full, fun day. "A Stark Disconnect Between Price, Promise, and Delivery" I have written only one negative review in my life. However, as someone with over 20 years of experience in high-end, international hospitality consulting--and as someone who has previously visited and enjoyed these grounds--I feel obligated to document this experience clearly and publicly. I have been on the Mohonk Mountain House property before during warmer months and genuinely appreciated the trails and natural beauty. This visit was intended to share that experience with a guest visiting from abroad--to showcase what is marketed as a world-class destination. Instead, I was left embarrassed for having recommended it. Mohonk Mountain House positions itself as a premium property. What we encountered instead was poor operational transparency, coercive upselling, and a pricing model that demonstrates a profound and troubling disconnect between cost and value. Trail access is priced at $35 per person year-round, with no seasonal adjustment despite many trails being closed in winter. More concerning is the complete lack of clear disclosure that microspikes are mandatory in winter conditions. Guests who arrive unaware are effectively cornered into limited choices: abandon hiking altogether, leave the property to source equipment elsewhere, or be redirected into a paid "upgrade" simply to gain access to the grounds--while still being required to pay an additional $22 per pair to rent microspikes on-site. This is not an oversight. It is a systemic design choice that prioritizes revenue extraction over guest experience. Because we did not have microspikes and were unwilling to waste hours driving back and forth for rentals, we were steered toward brunch, which was positioned as a high-end, special experience. At $145 per person, expectations were not just reasonable--they were implicit. What followed was one of the weakest food offerings I have encountered in any hospitality environment, at any tier. The buffet was sparse, uninspired, largely tasteless, and executed without any discernible standard of refinement. Professionally speaking, it was a failure. There was no culinary point of view, no sense of occasion, and absolutely no justification for the price. This was not luxury dining; it was a cafeteria-level experience concealed behind branding and scenery. I understand that this brunch may primarily be designed for overnight hotel guests, and I am not certain whether it is included in their stay. That distinction is irrelevant. If management chooses to sell this experience to outside guests at a $145 price point, then the quality, transparency, and execution must stand on their own. They do not. What is being delivered does not remotely align with the price being charged--regardless of who the intended audience is. The experience crossed from disappointing into indefensible with undisclosed add-on charges. A tonic water--a basic soft drink--was priced at $11. Coffee was offered after the meal; only after the espressos were delivered were we informed they would be charged separately--$22 for two. Charging extra for basic coffee after a $145-per-person meal is not premium hospitality. It is unapologetic nickel-and-diming and reflects an operation that has lost sight of the fundamentals of guest care. I have no issue paying premium prices. In fact, I actively seek out and gladly pay for exceptional experiences and outstanding food. This was neither. Based on food quality alone, this brunch aligns more closely with a $45 experience--perhaps $60 at most when factoring in the setting and views. Instead, we left stunned by the confidence with which such a substandard product was sold at a luxury price. This was not hospitality. It was transactional, extractive, and cynical. It relied entirely on reputation and scenery while delivering subpar quality and aggressively monetizing every possible interaction. Management should be deeply concerned--not only about guest satisfaction, but about the long-term erosion of trust and credibility. Now I understand why Airbnb is so popular -- why would you spend $1k on one night in a tiny room when you can rent a beautiful house with a hot tub or other amenities for a whole weekend for the same price? When we arrived we were third in line under the portico. There was one valet who was working with the people in the first car. There were 3 cars behind us. After 5-10 minutes we unloaded our luggage and put it by the front door of the hotel. A valet came and asked if we wanted him to valet our car and park it. We said yes. Nothing happened with our luggage so we got a cart and moved it into the hotel. A valet came up and said oh, you can't do that. I'll put your bags in the luggage room. They will be sent to your room. So we check in. When we made reservations they said the hotel was fully booked. But they said when we checked in we could ask about balcony and fireplace rooms. They said I'm sorry we're fully booked. You have two queen beds on the third floor. When we got to the room there was no water running in the bathroom. We called the front desk and they said that the problem was universal but they were working on it. So the hotel did not have running water. The food was okay. Not great. I had pork tenderloin which came on a plate looking like an ice cream sandwich with some romaine on top. It was fine. But not great. The breakfast and lunch are buffet which was plentiful but not great. Not for $1100 a night. The place is beautiful. We walked around the lake then walked up to the tower. Beautiful views. Had a massage and the woman who massaged my husband did pressure points and alot of ear and skull massage and not so much lower back which he had asked for. I had an appointment for a pedicure but the pedicure person was sick and went home. This hotel has 260 rooms. Really, one pedicurist for over 500 people? We went for a drink in the bar. There was no one there except for two women seated near the door. The waitress was telling them about her life, hospital stuff on and on. There was another woman in a white jacket that said hello then left the bar. We sat at a table for seven minutes and then my husband got up and interrupted the waitress who was still sharing her tale of woe with the two other customers and said excuse me is this self serve? Rude perhaps. But $1100 a night? Please. The waitress came over to our table and apologized for making us wait. We ordered two martinis which she made. They were horrible . So much ice that turned to water. Horrible. Then my husband saw the waitress talking to the boss in the white coat. I didn't see the exchange but I went up to white coat and said the last time we were here it was 30 years ago but they didn't have a bar. When did you add the bar? She looked at me stone faced and said 2016. I said oh that's right they were Quakers so they didn't drink. And she said with the dead eye stare That's right. You can't be rude to your customers when they are paying $1100 a night. The worst thing was that they claimed they were fully booked so you couldn't ask for a certain room. There were some business meetings but the dining room was one third filled and the hallways were very very quiet. Maybe there were 500 people there but the seven I saw in each room: the library, the bar, the dining room (there were 14 people having breakfast on our departure day) made me wonder. very fun place to day trip from nyc! came here for brunch and explored the area around the resort of the rest of the day. brunch is buffet style and delicious. there wasn't a single item I tried and did not like. would definitely come back to dine again. the price tag was a little steep ($150), but it was a great experience. the view from the dining hall was amazing--an overlook of the entire mountain. the hike itself was fun. I did the labyrinth trail and it was one of the most fun hikes I've done. it was all rock scrambles and at one point you climb out of a rock crevice. the hike itself almost felt like bouldering at points. the view on top was absolutely amazing too. Close to the city... looks VERY luxurious, and gets your girlfriend to stop requesting to see the fall foliage. Seems like a resort, prices are high -- maybe that means this is it, right? The mohonk mountain house is a Cancun-style all-inclusive, a home-base for adventure, a beautiful 1800's victorian mansion, and set on a lake with small boats and fishing. 1. Cost/value If you care about this at all, go to new paltz, get an airbnb and get a daypass for hiking. Room rates often exceed 1-2k a night, which parries the likes of the Ritz carlton. That's not what this is. Do not expect luxury. 2. The food The food is dining hall food from college. Overall, it is generously oversalted and largely disgusting. You will find yourself holding tea and coffee frequently to avoid it. Service is generally terrible, as gratuity is "included" in the overnight rate. We waited 90 minutes to be served bread and a personal pizza at "Founders". Overall disappointed with the food, which absolutely did not amount to more than $50pp/day, with room rates at this price. A $400 cancun all inclusive certainly has better food and alcohol. (Alcohol basically isn't included anywhere). 3. The activities The free activities are cool/cute. Definitely not entertaining for more than 2-3 hours a day. If you plan on entertaining your family with stuff to do from the resort, you will mostly find yourself eating (which, see 2, is a huge let down). They had some cute themed stuff for halloween for the kids which I appreciated, but most activities seemed to be aged for kids under 13 or adults over 65. Nothing really for couples or friends on a trip, for more than 2 hr a day. Some cooler activities all book up ahead of time, so make sure to answer their emails. 4. The views A+. Seriously beautiful, this is what you're paying for. We got a room on the 0'th floor however that looked at the parking lot. Tough sh*t for us. Many rooms have no view at all on the bottom floor. Book early if you're going to come here to avoid this. Overall... mid experience. Get an airbnb in new paltz, eat better food, and drive around. This place would be cool for a family needing to entertain small kids or a reunion for old people, but any millenials prob don't bother with this. Way better ways to light 5 grand on fire.
