Those with whom we were in most direct contact were largely folks having roots in New Paltz , and this really enhanced my genuine pleasure in dealing with them . In all honesty , Margaret and Kenny at the front desk became instant friends , great " listeners " providing a warm welcome on my return to the Shawangunk Mountains after a long hiatus . As we took care of our room ourselves , wanting total privacy on our romantic getaway , we had little contact with cleaning staff , but our room was immaculate , as were the hallways, elevators , and lobby . However, providing basic English lessons to the cleaning staff in some manner would not be a bad thing ....... Having come to camp or hike in these mountains 30 + times from 1974 to 2013 , the lack of decent lodging off I 87 had become a bit of a mystery to me , but at 71, there will be no more lengthy breaks in my visits now ........ Although parking in front is a little constricted because of the necessity of conforming to the boundaries of the lovely, park-like historic cemetery the inn fronts , there is ample parking in back , which few use . ......... My main recommendation is one I can make to every inn with free breakfasts : No backpacks or shoulder luggage in the somewhat constricted dining area ! We keep our hiking gear in the room until ready to leave for the day ; it's simply a matter of common courtesy , and how long could it possibly take to return to one's room ? ........ But again, I instantly fell in love with this place, and look forward to a return in September or October ............

If you don't tip, at least provide a written review if the experience and service was good. Our service here was for a paddle boat and two kayaks. You will sign a waiver and be issued a lifejacket. No time limit is placed on you and instructions are clear. The loss of the star is strictly for the carpeting in the bedrooms/guest rooms. There's nothing historic about the carpet that was used so if there is an anticipated renovation restoration in the future, management might consider replacing Carpet with some type of flooring or have an annual deep cleaning schedule to keep the musty smell away.

We had a king bed room with a balcony with two rocking chairs and a scenic view of the mountains. The room was tidy and the bed comfortable. Bathroom was clean, but other than a tiny glass shelf over the sink, no place to put your toiletries. Your daily hotel room charge includes a gourmet 3-course dinner, buffet breakfast, and buffet lunch. From the dinner menu, I ordered the lobster en croute soup, the roasted halibut, and chocolate cake. Everything was delicious. Alcohol and espresso coffee drinks are not included. A beer was $11 and a single espresso $6. The buffets were lavish, but too much food, especially since breakfast and lunch were served just four hours apart. Our room for one night for two with the three meals, plus one 8 oz. carafe of wine, one beer, and one espresso with dinner cost a whopping $1,700 with the fees and taxes. Our room 9 had the sweetest, all-around views from the multiple windows both in our corner room & in the bathroom of all the greenery, flowers & lawns. Although breakfast is no longer offered as part of the room rate, we were "grandfathered in" by the super amenable, welcoming head chef, who, in large part, is the engine behind the hotel's managing group, because our room had been booked when the breakfast plan was still in existence. Our breakfasts were presented beautifully & by servers who were super friendly & engaging, as is the rest of the staff here. The pool had not yet been filled for the summer, so we enjoyed sunning on the pool deck, the sweet sauna, walks to the lake down below the property, played shuffleboard, billiards in the way-downstairs which has stone walls, low ceilings, a wine closet, board games & game table, as well as darts. The first floor library is cozy, filled with couches, upholstered chairs, books, coloring books & colored pencils & the in-house restaurant offers 3 meals a day, either in the beautifully outfitted & sunny dining room or on the back patio, alongside a rain barrel, herb garden, smoke house, fire pit & the grassy lawns. The owners & the hotel's hospitality group are working on upgrading & updating the facilities & its offerings & we applaud them for their efforts & plans. Over the years we've stayed at a few nice hotels. Minnewaska Lodge is now at the top of my favorite places. Minnewaska Lodge is centrally located to all of our favorite spots. Driving our Tesla from Long Island, we stopped for lunch at our favorite diner, charged up at a Tesla supercharger station and pulled into the Lodge parking lot around 3pm. The view is just commanding. This large lodge with the mountains as a back drop is post card perfect. After we received our keys and stored our luggage, we went to a local farm stand for a bottle of local wine as well as local cheese and crackers. I tried to light a fire but each deck heater had issues. Sitting outside and just enjoying the natural beauty was worth the room price. Not only was the staff friendly, the guests were also very engaging. Almost chipper! We're playing cards in the main dining room while sipping on our local wine purchase and people were stopping by to talk to us. It really made our overall stay extra special. Our room was equally impressive. We had an outdoor deck that opened up to the same view as the main lodge. The bed was comfortable, the shower products were high end and the welcome note was a nice touch. It was a short weekend but Minnewaska Lodge checked all the hospitality boxes to make our stay special. I cannot wait to return!

Call in advance to check availability and make a reservation: it's a small place! The communal kitchen is big, and you can use the coffee, tea and oatmeal (anything else you have to bring yourself). The kitchen has an 11pm curfew, so they're trying to keep it quiet here (this is not a party hostel; alcohol, smoking and drugs are banned!). The wifi is good. Enter with a key from the back door and use a code to enter the room. Sone notes about room 3; which is where I take off one star. Theoretically the room sleeps four as long as two are willing to share a full size bed, and as long as one can vault up to a bunk bed (the ladder is broken). So at the moment it's really a three person room. You'd better be very comfortable using a bathroom around those folks, because the room entry is through the bathroom, so anyone going from hallway to room and vice versa passes through the bathroom. Okay. It's the only room set up that way. The shower is great, there's lots of light and fans, but the main reason im taking off a star is because the room clearly wasn't cleaned before check in. The sink had brown stuff on it, which was easy enough to clean, but not what I would expect to see. There were also literal sprigs of weeds and wildflowers on the floor, which I picked up and put it the trash, but when you see mess that's that obvious, it makes you wonder what kinds of less obvious uncleanliness might be there... and good thing they provide ear plugs, because the room next door had a piano (ie someone practicing piano, not just playing music on a speaker), a dog and a toddler!

(in the US, at least) Owner is incredibly kind and humorous. We stayed in two different private rooms and they both felt like home. One even had a fridge, something that's hard to find in a hotel these days, let alone a hostel. Location is great, you can walk to everything. Only negative is that the parking can be kind of tricky.
