UltraMed addresses the following needs (and, more) for their patients: cold/flu, sore throats, fever, cough, pneumonia, respiratory infections, rash, eczema, yeast infections, various testing, and even offer school/sports/camp physicals. The front desk was friendly, and the P.A. that I saw was fine. I just found it odd that there weren't really any other patients there at the time, and there was just an incredibly long wait time in every aspect - a long wait time to be called back, a long wait time sitting alone in the room until someone came in, a long wait time to receive a confirmation of what I had, and a long wait to follow-up and to get checked out. It became awkward, because what felt like 30 minutes or so after receiving a prescription and thinking that my session was done, I wasn't sure if I could just have walked out. There weren't any check-ins at all during at any point in these scenarios, and I really thought that I was forgotten! I don't mind seeing P.A.s or nurse practitioners, but only if they are competent in doing their job. However, the particular P.A. that I saw seemed to look up/research on his phone, had to get constant confirmation from one of the doctors that were on the premise, and played a waiting game to receive the 'okay' to proceed in how to handle the case. If I knew that was how I was going to get my diagnosis, I would have just self-diagnosed using the internet! I just felt that there was no respect for my time. Why couldn't the doctor just come in and say what was needed to be said, or the case be transferred to someone who actually knew what to do? The amount of time I spent here, it would have been better just to have gone to the ER and waited an extra couple of hours. There was also a billing issue; make sure you always have a receipt when you pay with your insurance to confirm payment, as you may get notices of an inaccurate balance! I'm glad I finally got the results and the medicine that I needed, but I can't recommend this place to others, especially since there is no sense of 'urgency.' My patience and my anxiety just can't handle it. The friendly staff at UltraMed took us with no issue. The office staff is beyond friendly and accommodating; very helpful. Dr. Alex in particular provides exceptional care with the best bedside I've ever experienced. We came in to refill some post-surgery medications. Dr. Alex examined the incisions and noticed a couple spots he thought he could help heal faster. He was very thorough and informative. He took the time needed to help keep surgical wounds healing well and even let me watch closely as he worked. He made easy friendly conversation between being very clear about what he was doing and why. If I could make this Urgent Care clinic my GP I would. By far the best medical care I've experienced.

They were playing 80s hair rock in the hall the first visit which I thought was hilarious and kept me in good spirits during my inevitable bag of IV fluids. What frustrated me most was that when I came back, the clinic wanted to bill my insurance for the follow-up visit rather than taking responsibility for addressing an issue that occurred immediately after the injection. I felt I was being charged for a problem directly related to the treatment I had just received. I was especially disappointed by the lack of accountability and customer service. Instead of reassuring me and addressing my concerns as part of the original treatment, I was treated as though this was a separate medical issue. I have gone to this clinic twice and both times left disappointed…read more Visit #1 - I tested positive for covid, was borderline miserable and the NP refused to prescribe Paxlovid but instead wrote a RX for a coughing pill. The pill did nothing for me so I called my PP and within minutes he sent over an RX to my local pharmacy for Paxlovid. The meds worked great and was back to normal within a few days. Visit #2 - I had a bad infection. The NP at the clinic determined it was a viral infection and I would need to tough it. A few days after my visit the infection got worse so I called my PP for a same day appointment. After doing the same basic tests as the NP my doctor determined it was a bacterial infection and wrote an RX for Z-Pak. The Z-Pak worked wonders and I was back to normal within 48 hours. The moral of the story is two separate times I was feeling like shit and both times the NPs did nothing to help me. What is the point of having health care professionals manage these locations when they are scared to prescribe basic meds to help ailing patients. Minute Clinic stole my money twice but never again. I will never be back.

I've found Oakton Park Medical Center to be extraordinarily competent from the front desk to the doctors. And they are technologically advanced - you get notifications, online access, electronic sign-in... even a tablet if the front desk is occupied. Doctors listen and explain everything. There's no rushing you out. No rushing you off the phone. If you have a question, they answer confidently and competently and do what they say. It's a medium sized office and they do stuff like ultrasound and labwork in-house so you don't need to run around for everything. One little thing I'm slightly concerned about is if under an HMO (since you need to see your PCP) an appointment will be available on short notice like a walk-in. Some larger places have walk-in hours, but that's not really a huge issue for me and I'm pretty sure they'd accommodate anybody in need based on the situation as they've been nothing but helpful with me. In my past experience with a Northshore Health office, my past provider was similar to ATT or Comcast - just too big and clumsy... Rude front desk that was too busy to answer you. My doctor would come in, see me for maybe 5 minutes, then walk out for five minutes. Then walk in for another minute and that's my appointment. If there's a billing issue, there'd be nobody competent enough to help you or if there was, good luck figuring who that is. At the time I had a PPO. After a couple years my specific Blue Cross PPO was no longer accepted by Northshore but nobody thought to check before my appointments. So I started getting charged out of network and I didn't understand what was happening so I paid. And they keep sending bills for something they should have caught. So I don't want Oakton Park to be too busy and turn into this mess, but they deserve the gratitude. A breath of fresh air in Skokie.
