Urgent cares were something that I got used to seeing when I moved to the east coast; it was interesting to see more and more of these pop up back at home. This particular one is located off of Dempster, across from the new mini Target, where once stood a resale/consignment shop. UltraMed addresses the following needs (and, more) for their patients: cold/flu, sore throats, fever, cough, pneumonia, respiratory infections, rash, eczema, yeast infections, various testing, and even offer school/sports/camp physicals. The front desk was friendly, and the P.A. that I saw was fine. I just found it odd that there weren't really any other patients there at the time, and there was just an incredibly long wait time in every aspect - a long wait time to be called back, a long wait time sitting alone in the room until someone came in, a long wait time to receive a confirmation of what I had, and a long wait to follow-up and to get checked out. It became awkward, because what felt like 30 minutes or so after receiving a prescription and thinking that my session was done, I wasn't sure if I could just have walked out. There weren't any check-ins at all during at any point in these scenarios, and I really thought that I was forgotten! I don't mind seeing P.A.s or nurse practitioners, but only if they are competent in doing their job. However, the particular P.A. that I saw seemed to look up/research on his phone, had to get constant confirmation from one of the doctors that were on the premise, and played a waiting game to receive the 'okay' to proceed in how to handle the case. If I knew that was how I was going to get my diagnosis, I would have just self-diagnosed using the internet! I just felt that there was no respect for my time. Why couldn't the doctor just come in and say what was needed to be said, or the case be transferred to someone who actually knew what to do? The amount of time I spent here, it would have been better just to have gone to the ER and waited an extra couple of hours. There was also a billing issue; make sure you always have a receipt when you pay with your insurance to confirm payment, as you may get notices of an inaccurate balance! I'm glad I finally got the results and the medicine that I needed, but I can't recommend this place to others, especially since there is no sense of 'urgency.' My patience and my anxiety just can't handle it. By far the best health care in the area! My husband and I have used this Urgent Care clinic twice for post surgery care. Many places turned us away because they had not done the surgery. The friendly staff at UltraMed took us with no issue. The office staff is beyond friendly and accommodating; very helpful. Dr. Alex in particular provides exceptional care with the best bedside I've ever experienced. We came in to refill some post-surgery medications. Dr. Alex examined the incisions and noticed a couple spots he thought he could help heal faster. He was very thorough and informative. He took the time needed to help keep surgical wounds healing well and even let me watch closely as he worked. He made easy friendly conversation between being very clear about what he was doing and why. If I could make this Urgent Care clinic my GP I would. Worst urgent care I have ever been to. I had a back pain so I decided to go there. When I got there I had to call them to open the door for me (I don't know what kinda urgent cares is this) They charge me $95 for a visit plus another $90 for an ultrasound picture. I didn't mind the money but they couldn't figure out the pain and their nurse is a young girl whom I think she still goes to school because she didn't know what she was talking about and she sounded so unconfident, I left there with $185 out of my pocket and no clue what's going on in my back pain. I work at an Elementary School and hurt my back on the job. I called our nurse hotline and was told to go to this location for care. I showed up on Thursday and spent 3 hours there, all after giving the front desk my workmans comp information. Mind you, UltraMed had already been faxed my claim information. They verified it, or so I thought, and sent me home with a note that I could not go back to work until I was seen by them again, steroids, and a muscle relaxer. I made my follow up appointment for the following Sunday. I showed up for my follow up, on time, and waited 40 minutes until the manager/doctor comes out and tells me I have to pay out of pocket for both appointments. He said that workmans comp can take up to two years to pay them back and he wouldn't work for free. I reiterated that I was seen on Thursday with no problems. He told me it wasn't his problem and he refused to call on my claim. I said they had THREE days to follow up but he said, again, it's not his problem. He also claimed that they were understaffed. Yeah, not my problem when they were seeing numerous Covid testing patients when I was sitting there waiting. I should also say that "he" was Alex K. Joseph who is a Physician Assistant and the Director of Operations. If you look up his profile on their website it says, "Alex's passion and practice specializes in both the delivery or acute care medicine and the business aspects of running a PROFITABLE urgent care clinic." EMPHASYS ON PROFIT?! I think so! This "urgent care" is a complete joke and completely UNPROFESSIONAL. I have been reaching out to colleagues and others in the medical profession and EVERYONE (including the workmans comp reps) says that there is NO WAY I should be paying out of pocket for care when they were provided with all the correct information to treat me. So right now I am left with a potential herniated disc that I'm just supposed to figure out on my own. Clearly UltraMed is not in the business of helping people but instead in the game for the profit. The ONLY positive I will give this place is the super sweet PA that helped me when I was first there. She was thorough, insightful, and asked all the right questions. I hope she finds a better place of employment because I would love to see her in the future. read more

If you need a COVID test PLEASE do not visit this location. The nurse who gave the Covid test to my minor placed the test in his nose and asked him if it was ok if he stood under a tree while it was in his nose for 30 seconds each nostril due to the heat. They also make you PREPAY and charge your insurance $398 while the insurance company stated the allowed is $180.00. You also need to follow up for a check to be issued to you after three months. Unprofessional and very rude their billing department who was a guy. I had to pay up front for a covid test. I was told I would be reimbursed after my insurance paid. After I waited a apt amount of time I gave them a call and I was given the run around for 3 weeks straight. Their receptionists would lie and say that the person responsible for billing was either in a meeting or he was always gone for the day and he will return my call, but never did. The last draw was when I called and was told that he just left for the day, I hung up and called their corporate office and made a complaint and then I call my insurance company. The same day I was told that the person was gone for the day my insurance representative had me to hold the line while she gave them a call and he just happened to be there, The reception is lied to me. she click back over and said he was, so rude and unprofessional that he hung up on her. A joke. Ironic that they are considered an urgent care clinic, but unable to take patients with urgent needs. I was having bad symptoms of UTI, got to the door and it says I need to call in. I called and the guy told me I need to make an appointment!!! I told him that I was in pain and just needs to see a doctor. He told me he needs to ask me pre-screening questions, fine. I answer and tell him I have been fully vaccinated. He finally says, "okay you will be a walk in then", but then tells me to come back in 45 minutes since no doctor is available to see me. The clinic was about to close its doors for the night, however, I called to find out if they would see me because I was coughing so bad and I had a terrible sore throat. Stopped by UltraMed today because I had been experiencing back pain for a few days. I did not have an appointment but I was able to see a doctor within 45 minutes and get a prescription that I was able to fill at the Target/CVS across the street. Everyone at UltraMed was wearing a mask and social distancing when possible. The employees were kind and professional and I felt very safe visiting. I would suggest calling in advance to schedule an appointment especially on the weekend. Overall I am glad I stopped in. read more

DO NOT GET A COVID TEST HERE - they charge up front and will not reimburse you. Please file a BBB complaint if this has happened to you. My son got a COVID test here in September - I was told that we would haveto pay $250 up front and they would file with my insurance. This should have been a red flag, but they could see us right away and I was confident my insurance would cover it. Now, four months later, I have still not been reimbursed even though my insurance covered the claim. I called and called always put on hold and calls never returned. They only called me back once I submitted a BBB, just to yell and talk at me, arguing my insurance rejected their claim (even though they did cover the only claim that was received by the labs, but nothing came through from the clinic) and saying that I received several messages even though I didn't. Get a free test elsewhere and don't bother with this place - this is not ok. Check the reviews!! It seems covid testing reimbursement is an issue with this place once insurance has processed the claim. I paid in advanced for all of my family to get tested post exposure and we paid out of pocket after being reassured we would be reimbursed (I even double checked with my insurance). Here we are one month later and it turns out the claims weren't even submitted until weeks after the visit and my daughters claim wasn't submitted at all! Now the billing department is ghosting me and not returning phone calls regarding the issue. Don't go here! Went in for a covid test and they charge you $200 upfront and tell you they'll reimburse you after they submit a claim to your insurance, and you send them back an Explanation of Benefits. Haven't received reimbursement yet after more than a month after sending them my EOB! There's also apparently only 1 person who does billing stuff and he's never there (maybe it's just a lie they tell). I've must have called 10 times over the past month and he's either on vaca for weeks at a time or out of the office for some reason or another, they take down my info each time and assure me the guy will call me back and he never does. Oh! And the best part was they submitted the covid test claim as an office visit for obesity I'm not obese) and had the gall to b*tch out a sweet blue cross blue shield rep when she tried to correct the claim with them, telling her "well how about you teach me how to do it then." This place is super unprofessional, I'm surprised they haven't been reported. Update: after I threatened to contact the BBB and hung up on them, someone there immediately called me back. Went to Ultramed Urgent Care as a referral from my Doctor to get a COVID test for surgery. If you have ever had a COVID test you know that it is NOT pleasant. Several hours after my test was done I received a call and was told that the test tubes that they used were faulty and that they were getting new ones and I would have to come back to have the test re-done. Not only is my time valuable and I would have to make time to go back, I certainly did not want to have the test done again, twice in one day. Completely unacceptable. I did speak to my Doctors office to let them know what happened and suggest that they find another facility to send their surgery patients to. I canceled my appointment and went to another provider. Also, Ultra Med does not file your insurance claim for the $180.00 for the test. You have to pay upfront and file your claim with your Insurance company and get a refund. This is fine, however, they did not tell me that when they made the appointment. They told me once I was there. read more

Fortunately, I made conversation with the Walgreens pharmacist and he caught UltraMed Urgent Care's mistake for the prescription. I would give less than one star if I could. I got statements for my insurance company that everything was paid including a small charge extra of $25. I have Medicare plan E with the Blue Cross supplement for 20 years and I never have to pay co-pay or one penny for any of my medical needs. Everything is always covered Nevertheless this place keeps sending me a bill for the $24 that my insurance company said they paid weeks ago. . . AAnd threaten me. They are belligerent when I call They are just grindHoping that I will pay the money because I am stupid or because I don't understand. I would rather go to court and fight them on it. I've been using this particular center for my entire family over the years since they opened their doors. All of us have had to find an urgent care walk-in center for things as minimal as a booster tetanus shot to stitches in the facial area! not only have they been amazingly accommodating for each and every visit, they are always clean, fast, knowledgeable, and patient. The combination of being a boutique healthcare provider that also offers emergency services is a plus for me - I don't have medical insurance. They offer a separate type of insurance that has nothing to do with corporate insurance companies; it is crazy affordable for the regular types of visits and rx medications the at are routine for me. I do not always like to jump on the bandwagon of reviews, but the lack of positive reviews on this platform urged me to share this with those prone to look at the negative reviews first. read more

This was far and away the worst experience I've had with a healthcare provider. My wife and I went to UltraMed for COVID tests (administered in our car) in January. UltraMed billed BCBS for "office visits" rather than COVID tests which, as noted by the IDPH, are meant to be covered in full. This information was relayed to both Raj and Dr. Alex directly from BCBS. Despite assuring me on multiple occasions that this would be resolved, there has been no update to the claims with BCBS. Raj and Dr. Alex will not return repeated calls unless fraud is mentioned in which case they are suddenly available. On one occasion, Raj berated my BCBS advocate who said she had never seen billing practices like this in her entire career. I am sure Dr. Alex will comment below claiming that "insurance is complicated" or "we discussed this and you are confused". Do not trust this place. They are taking advantage of patients during a global pandemic and hide behind the complexity of the patient/provider relationship. I encourage you to check out the numerous reviews on Yelp where others have experienced similar issues with their billing practices. I cannot stress strongly enough that you should pursue other options for any medical needs that you have. This was a complete waste of both time and money and I hope no one else has to go through this. I've escalated this issue through the appropriate channels. I had an appointment on July 2nd where I was required to front $180 of the cost and then wait until after the claim with my insurance company was settled to be reimbursed by them. I was hesitant to do this, but was assured I would be paid back within six weeks. It's August 18th and they have yet to even send my claim over to my insurance. I've called multiple times and have been told their billings person would call me back and I hear nothing (never have I received a call back). At this point who knows if I'll ever get reimbursed. Completely unprofessional, I would not recommend anyone go to this Urgent Care. Edit: Into September and this was finally taken care of. Care I received was good (although a long wait time), but the billing is just slow, particularly when you have to pay up front and wait to get reimbursed. The fact that I had to call multiple times to get a call back is just bad customer service. I'd recommend going to a Northshore immediate care (which I recently had to do for something else): they bill your insurance directly, charge you only your deductible and have shorter wait times. read more

The best addition to the area! After heading to Northshore for an urgent ear infection only to find a long wait and an overcrowded waiting room filled with very sick people, we left to try ultramed-so glad we did! The kindest service, efficient, affordable and they take most insurance plans. Super hip and very clean. They also do primary care and they see kids. It's right across from target which made it so great. We got in to see the doctor, went to CVS inside of target to fill the prescription in under an hour. This is our new go to for times that we need to be seen quick and they were open 8am-8pm!! read more

Never trust their promises. My wife and I needed a covid test to board a Tuesday international flight (which was not a regular flight and no next flight was scheduled if this one was missed, and a negative test result is a government requirement for check-in). We called them on Friday, and they promised on the phone that the result would be available by Monday. The doctor who did the swabbing also "guaranteed" that result would come back on Monday. We trusted them and did not try to find other test locations because we were also busy packing our stuff and removing our furniture. On Monday we called many times, and they kept saying that the result should be back before the day ended. They also promised to call us back before they close. However, neither of these happened. They told us that calling their number after 8pm would transfer us to the manager Raj. We called tons of times, and it only worked out once. Raj told us on the phone that the lab had put our samples in the machine and we should got the result by Tuesday 10am. On Tuesday morning, Raj changed his tone and said that the lab had difficulty locating our samples. Another manager Alex helped us find a clinic 50 miles away, and we drove there to get a rapid test. We eventually caught the flight. However, we spent the whole Tuesday doing the covid test and all our plan was disrupted. We had to leave our car at the airport, and our apartment was a mess. We have not got the test result from UltraMed yet. They have not agreed to give us a refund. The test costed $600 for two of us. UltraMed told us that our insurances do not cover tests of travel purposes and we needed to pay out of pocket. However, the other clinic contacted the insurance provider and successfully asked the insurance to pay. In summary, the following that they said was not true: 1. They can deliver covid test results in 3 days 2. They would call us back before they closed on Monday 3. The lab had put our samples in the machine by Monday night 4. The insurance does not cover the tests Things would not be so hectic if they had not promised something that they can never deliver. Don't trust them. read more

I called and made an appointment for 9:45 am. I've had a lingering cough for 10 days and I couldn't sleep due to the cough attacks. When I arrived on time I was told to wait outside. Someone came out 15 min later to collect my id snd insurance card. Another 10 min later she came to collect my credit card. Another 10 min later someone called and collected my family history and said provider will call me. Another 15 min later "provider" called and said he will do the chekup outside, because I may have COVID. All that time I waited under the sun, in hot weather. I told them I am not comfortable with being checked in the middle of the street, and they could have easily tested me for COVID when I arrived and have taken me inside where I could wait under more humane conditions for my age. Any way they tested me and saw that I didn't have COVID (as I told them because I checked myself with at home COVID test). Of course that took sometime as well. It was about 10:40 they took me in and asked all the family history questions again! They wanted me to guess my weight and height while filling in the questionnaire. The provider finally arrived and listened to my lungs for a few seconds and prescribed me with 4 medicines. And all that time I was waiting inside and outside, I did not see anyone leaving the clinic or going in the clinic. I then went to get my prescriptions, the pharmacist said the provider did not sign one of the meds and she couldnt give it to me because it was a controlled substance. This is the worst clinic I have ever been to in my entire life and do not recommend it to even my worst enemy. read more

Their billing department is messed up here. I paid my bill for services, and 7 months later (after hearing nothing from them that entire time) I get a letter saying it has been turned over to collections and they have no record of me paying. However, they clearly deposited my check, which I have a copy of from my bank. When I called them, they didn't even have my name correct in their records. So far it's been about 2 hours of phone calls, emails, getting bank records, etc. and still not solved. read more

Raj khurana is the billing / owner and refuses to properly bill insurance. My daughter is Supposed to get a covid test for surgery here and have not only reported to my insurance company who instructed me this office is in the wrong and if they bill the test correctly covid anything is covered 100% no copy and they should not be requesting it from me additionally we met all our out of pocket and deductible so there for regardless of what the visit was for it would be covered 100% he refused to even talk to the insurance. I informed my surgeon to quit sending his patients here as they will not be billed correctly and they thanked me. I have found another local urgent care that will properly bill and do the test. The worst place ever. It is privately owned and the doctor/owner is a crook. He over charges always, rude and very inconsiderate. I have been obligated to visit this place due to circumstances but I will never go back again. I've had five-six experiences here and they are always horrible. Urgent Care Med Center: Ultimately I would like to be as fair as I could but I did not have a good experience here unfortunately. They charged $90 (had to negotiate) for a consult (taking vital signs and an assessment) and after the physician already had seen my father, they stated that the insurance would not be covered AFTER telling us initially that it was. It was not until I mentioned that this was out of network that they came to realization that they needed us to pay out of pocket for costs for services. They charge cost per service it seems. I feel you are ultimately better off going to your own primary care provider if you can avoid immediate care centers if you want to save money and experience better care. Some advice and recs for improvement to this center would be to: -the staff was nice but I didn't feel the level of experience was there (no introduction to their name or title). -explain "basic" service-costs/co-pay to customers/patients before billing them at the end or at least tell the patient what to expect. -it also the responsibility of the patient/customer to THOROUGHLY check their own insurance (make sure this center is in network or I'm sure you'll be billed a big bill in the mail or at the time of checkout). read more

My son ingested pool water and we suspected chlorine poisoning. We brought him here to Ultramed but when we arrived we could not enter. We were instructed that we needed to call first. I went to the parking lot to call from the car and explained what happened and what his symptoms were (stomach ache and burning mouth) we were told these were COVID symptoms and needed a Covid test before receiving care. COVID tests are no longer free and I have a high deductible plan I just wanted to make sure my son didn't have chlorine poisoning. We left and went to another urgent care where we were accepted with no problem. Shame on this place. I see why they have a low rating. Do not recommend! read more

Went in saturday, had an infected foot needed a procedure ouch. the staff from the lady at the front desk to the nurse and physicians assistant were polite professional and extremely competent. very pleased with the care they didn't even get upset with my expletives when I felt a little "uncomfortable". my wife went here and didn't have a good experience. 2nd star for new equipment and cleanliness. -the front office worker is not polite. -my insurance is bcbs and never had an issue anywhere before. for some reasons they kept telling my insurance plan is expired, after some time they figured out. it was annoying to wait for them to figure this out -they tested for strep throat but never told or called for results. -they billed my insurance $395. it is not coming out of my pocket but most urgent cares don't charge more than $200 for same thing. They tried to take advantage of my insurance to make more money since my insurance was covering %100 -they are not able to send prescriptions to your pharmacist. physicians immediate care is a better option and upfront pricing. read more

I came in with a bad case of sinusitis and it was a breeze. After a couple of short forms (They take My Anthem insurance) and no wait I spoke to the practitioner Alex who was lovely. He quickly addressed my concerns and confirmed that it was sinusitis. After less than 30 min I walked out with a prescription and recommended OTC supplements. Great to get an appointment right away for both rapid and antigen test. Drove to their parking lot later in the same evening, get swabbed, 90 minutes later got a phone call with a negative result for rapid test. Was informed I would get a phone call within two days about antigen test. Never got the call. I call the clinic four days later, the receptionist looked up my file and said the test was negative. No apologies. Spoke with supervisor and he basically said they were understaffed. Guess I had to followed up. read more

As a Canadian, I went to this clinic for my COVID screening test so I may board my flight to go back home. This clinic was extremely sketchy and off! They quoted me one price ($125 for the test) after which I paid that amount without a problem. A few minutes later they return to the car and tell me that they made a mistake it should be $250! So they wanted to charge me again and after speaking to the manager they kept the price at $125. However, they did say in order for me to receive my test on time they would have to expedite and it would cost me another $75 BUT still could not guarantee it on time. So what's the point of expediting? But of course I was nervous so I paid the $75 for the faster service. The whole thing just seemed like such a scam and it made me feel dirty afterwards. They were draining me of the funds and they were after the money and liability rather than just doing the damn test already. Was a very bizarre experience. read more

I went there this evening after a s/p fall. Alex took care of me. He made a thorough assessment, he's very attentive, took the time asking me a lot of questions and explained my condition in a detailed manner.
