I was discharged without adequate instructions. The bloody laceration to my head was not so much as wiped and there were no stated or written discharge instructions on how to clean it or aftercare. I woke up the next morning and it was still actively bleeding. Although I had a obvious knee injury, I was told to get with my primary care for an MRI, even though this is a service available through emergency services. I was also told I would receive a call from their Ortho within 24-48 hours. That has not happened and I've been given the run around all day (4/27)with their ortho saying they have no information on my ref. I am 3 days post fall and my head has been contiuously hurting and my knee is swollen and can't hold weight. This was such a horrible experience and I can't drive because of my knee so now I'm home, missing work with an injured knee and trying to put together a treatment plan that this hospital should've assisted with. I also remember in years past, at other clinics, I waited hours, in the exam room after intake, to see the doctor. Not the case here. From start to finish, I believe I was there 30-40 minutes, at most. I felt at ease from the moment I stepped in the door, throughout intake/questions and I thought Dr. Horton was both approachable and informed, not to mention a great sense of humor. The exam room was spotless and comfortable. While it's not like I'd actually look forward to annual exams, I dread it a lot less at Ochsner.

The staff made the entire process significantly easier to manage. While I was aware of what to expect during recovery, their efforts to ensure my comfort were truly commendable. Dr. Gurtner is an excellent physician, and I appreciate her straightforward approach to my condition. She ensured I was well-informed about the procedure, although, of course, no preparation can fully account for the postoperative period. The staff at SMH East consistently provides healthcare services of the highest quality. I have been a patient at these two hospitals since the 1970s, and the standard of care has remained consistently excellent, regardless of the name change.
