I feel Oschner's of New Orleans on Jefferson Hwy should be held accountable for the performance or behavior of their rotation of doctors when giving care to one doctor in particular I will not call her name, but I have submitted a formal complaint and I'm seeking legal council. She has which is a note system that travels along with each patient in their files. She has placed a note in my file in epic stating that he is an which is incorrectly. My son has to take Delatin via IV. So how can he be attic if the only way he can get it is that your hospital administer? It's not something you can go off the street and get he hasn't been seeking it off the street so how could you call him an attic? I am very upset with this. I am contacting my should be ashamed of yourself to even allow a doctor to put that in a foul when this type of performance is unacceptable it's just unacceptable so I am filing a formal complaint. She needs to be removed from the rotation. She's rude and not only did she put this in his file, she treat him like he was a piece of dirt up under her shoe. I don't like it at all. He has been in for the last six years. I flew him medically to New Orleans, thinking that you all would take care of him, but hell he could've stayed in California and got this kind of treatment. On May 1st, I underwent a urological procedure at the former NSRMC, now Slidell Memorial Hospital (SMH) East, also known as Ochsner. From my initial check-in with Ms. Mickey to the pre-operative care provided by Ms. Regina and the recovery nurse, Ms. Breann, the experience was exceptionally pleasant. The staff made the entire process significantly easier to manage. While I was aware of what to expect during recovery, their efforts to ensure my comfort were truly commendable. Dr. Gurtner is an excellent physician, and I appreciate her straightforward approach to my condition. She ensured I was well-informed about the procedure, although, of course, no preparation can fully account for the postoperative period. The staff at SMH East consistently provides healthcare services of the highest quality. I have been a patient at these two hospitals since the 1970s, and the standard of care has remained consistently excellent, regardless of the name change. read more

I went to emergency room for my back, I couldn't walk the pain was so bad. The doctor on call was wonderful and compassionate The male nurse came in and my daughter ask for pain medicine, male nurse said Tylenol is what I will give her. I'm 76 years old, guess he thought I was drug addict. He was the worst nurse I ever encountered. He judged me before he looked at my chart, I had blood work, I'm sure he could tell nothing was in my system. I will go to East Jefferson Hosipial from now on. My main concern was I had cancer twice, I wanted a MRI to make sure it didn't spread I would have to wait until later that night because they had a full house. I did get a scan and it showed bulging dics. Male nurse needs a lesson in compassionate, or maybe find another job. I did get a shot for pain and I was able to walk. He pre judged me. When I had my scan I started to cry because shoving the xray tray hurt so bad, I'm pretty sure he was upset because I said something to one of the nurses. read more

I am extremely unhappy with the new route that the hospital is taken with ."gatekeeping" physicians from their patients. It used to be easy to reach out to them on portal and wait for them to respond, now when you send a message, a nurse responds and doesn't deliver your message to your doctor. The nurse then gives you their medical advice without taking into account your relationship with your doctor or the fact surrounding treatment. I think it's time to move on from Ochsner! read more

We are there weekly and like to stop for a treat at PJ's and listen to the person playing the piano (usually just a random employee or patient, stopper by!) then we take a walk over to the fountains in the hotel lobby area, and hang out there too. It's a nice, clean facility and very peaceful if you have to go often. Parking is ok. Elevators can add 5-10 minutes to your trip, FYI! read more

Orthopedic surgery with Dr Brian Darrith. Hip replacement. Botched initial install but at least forgiveable if functional. Issue was completely ignored leg length discrepancy. Prior to surgery asked FIVE times what procedure was and was told check and correct. After surgery and in recovery it became clear no attention to the discrepancy as I still wobble from side to side, have difficulty with getting up and down, and simply feels the same as the half inch difference I previously had. Attempted to get clarification from doctor but e-mail and phone call ignored. read more

If you're a parent of a medically complex child--BE WARNED. My baby girl Alora is a preemie with a cardiac condition. We trusted Ochsner Main Campus for her G-tube surgery, which was placed on May 26th. We went home on May 30th. By her June 4th cardiology appointment, the tube site was already showing signs of infection. Fast forward to today: her tube site looked awful--red, swollen, draining pus, and red streaks spreading across her belly. Thankfully, cardiology jumped into action and tried to coordinate a direct admit with general surgery. We went to the main campus expecting that plan to be followed. Instead, we were told general surgery doesn't do direct admits and were forced to choose between bringing our immunocompromised baby into the ER (a hotbed for infection) or... nothing. No one--especially not the house supervisor, Matt--offered an alternative. No compassion. No escalation. Just a cold, "You have to go to the ER." Parents of medically fragile babies deserve better. This was not an emergency--it was mismanagement. My daughter deserved a safe, coordinated plan. Ochsner, you let her down. read more

I'll start with the good. I love the doctors there. The nurses when I am there are also very nice and even the phlebotomists are 9/10 times great and don't fight back when I ask them to stick me where I need to be stuck. I have seen Dr. Simpson and Dr Van Hook in neurology. Great, kind, courteous, extremely intelligent and thoughtful doctors. All of them are. I see Dr. Guarisco for OB/GYN, Dr. Jiminez for PCP and Dr. Rodriguez for neurosurgery. Altogether I feel confident I have a comprehensive team that takes my care as a young adult very seriously. But as far as the office experience it's kind of a coin toss what kind of customer service you'll get. This really does apply to all offices. The MyOchsner app also has room for improvement, though I guess I understand why it functions the way that it does. I had a sudden increase in seizures. I couldn't reach out using the MyOchsner app for an appointment. It did not give me the option to reach out to either neurologist, only my PCP who obviously cannot help me with this issue. It only lets you reply when conversations are initiated, or lets you reply to recent visits, which I did not have because my last visit was a few months ago. So I called. The doc was out, no big deal. Everyone needs to take a break. Then they message to tell me the nurse practitioner was also out. Okay.. but where does that leave me? They did not offer me any solutions other than sending a message for him when he gets back. Unfortunately, health issues cannot wait. I left three more messages, I guess two were after he came back. Two weeks passed and my seizures got worse and I still hadn't heard from him or anyone. I really just feel like the messages were not being communicated by the people on the phone given how rude and impatient they were with me. I do feel like there should have been another solution offered if my doctor was out of the office. A stand-in doctor or something. I'm sure there was and these people just didn't care enough to find out and inform me. I've never heard of a doctor just up and leaving without having a plan in place for their patients to continue care if they had concerns. So I went ahead scheduled with another neurologist who had an opening for a virtual on my own. One of the ladies in his office decided I didn't need the virtual appointment, since I "was just looking for an increase in my medication." Firstly, who are you to make that decision for me? Secondly, I did not consent to the appointment being canceled. They then treated me like I was crazy for being upset that I was having increasingly bad seizures and unable to get ahold of anyone. I had no choice but to call the patient advocacy line. They were very nice, and seemed to care a lot about my problem. Within a few hours, my neurologist's office called to sort the medication issue out and actually got in touch with Dr. Van Hook at that point. But it was just insane that I had to jump through that many hoops and suffer for as long as I did over a medication issue. The supervisor did also give me a follow-up call to apologize, and she was VERY kind and courteous. She was very apologetic and made it clear that the customer service I got was not the standard Ochsner strove for. I do believe I had a fluke experience, and do hope to see improvement as I continue to use Ochsner. Once again, I do not fault the doctors or management for the unprofessionalism of the people who had initially answered my calls in scheduling and then the neurology office in general. I am otherwise very happy with my level of care here and responsiveness of my doctors, and would rather Ochsner over LCMC any day. read more

Called back and spoke with someone named Darlene who offered to assist but after 3 mins began interrupting me and became extremely sarcastic then put me on a long hold having to call back again for a supervisor. I wish I could give zero stars the way my daughter and I was treated in the ED on 09/28/24. We were brought by ambulance to the hospital to receive medical treatment after an automobile accident. My daughter and I were separated because she had to go to the pediatric side to see the pediatrician. My daughter texted me and said that she was not comfortable with the doctor. She said that he told her that Americans love to sue, and that he didn't think anything was wrong with her but he would do an X-ray because he didn't want to be sued as well. He also told my daughter she only needed to do yoga and she would be fine. He told her that hitting her head in the car accident was ok because she was only going 20MPH, don't know where he made that assumption because that was never spoken about and she's a child how would she know how fast we were driving. She expressed to him that she has anxiety and was feeling anxious. He told her that's all in YOUR brain that's not real you just have to breathe. She said back to the Dr can we take that part of my brain out; he said back to her sure but you'll be a vegetable slobbering all over yourself and someone will need to change your diaper and I'm sure no one wants to do that. I asked to be brought over to where she was however the Dr came to me I asked him about my child's comments to me. He proudly owned up to what he said. He was also very arrogant and rude! Only go to Ochsner Kenner Hospital if you have a death wish because they will kill somebody someday if they have not already. (At the end is how you can report them.) My own primary care physician, who is an Ochsner doctor, told me that Oscner Hospital failed me from the time I walked into the emergency room to even now after I've been discharged. Keep reading to the bottom because it's more than how they failed epilepsy protocol. I went to Ochsner Kenner hospital emergency room on January 31, 2025 because I thought I was going to have a tonic clonic seizure.. I walked in and told the people at the front desk that I had epilepsy and was about to have a tonic clonic seizure. They insisted on seeing my insurance card which is not a problem, except when you're about to have a seizure you don't understand words. Let me add Ochsner prides themselves about being a level 4 Epilepsy Center, which is the highest ranking you can have but failed on all epilepsy protocols. I got a bed in the emergency room which I stayed for four days in the ER, because they never had a room for me. I told the doctor to put up the bed rails because that's what you do during epilepsy protocol and he never did. My dad got mad and did it himself so that I was safe. Ochsner responded to my complaint about this and a quote "Please note that seizure precautions are typically implemented when a patient is actively experience a seizure and the period immediately following a seizure rather than based on a patient's history of epilepsy." The definition of precaution is an action that is done to prevent something dangerous happening. I.e. putting the bed rails up. On February 1, I didn't receive any dinner and on February 2 I didn't receive any breakfast even though my orders were a soft diet from vomiting and severe diarrhea. My dad had to go buy me Jell-O because they didn't feed me. Many times they didn't bring me my epilepsy medication at all or give it to me when they felt like it usually once a day when I take my medicine three times a day. I showed the doctor my bottles to prove it and they could've looked it up on my Ochsner MyChart if they cared. Sometimes my medicines were brought in hour early or late and if you have epilepsy, you know it has to be given right on time or it lowers your seizure threshold. They didn't even have one of my epilepsy medicines in stock and there is a Walgreens right in front of the hospital. My primary care doctor told me they should've called in a infectious disease doctor, which was never done. One day they ran out of toilet paper, which is terrible when you have severe diarrhea, I had an entire IV dripped on me which left me soaking wet and the bed, soaking wet. I asked for my DNR papers to be signed many times and they refused to give them. They lost my norovirus test and they gave me a urine sample cup to collect a stool sample with diarrhea. The so-called hospital needs to be closed and y'all have no business being a level 4 Epilepsy Center I reported y'all to everyone that will listen. I just had pneumonia and think it has come back I have gotten stuck 3 times because the nurse couldn't run an iv, I've gotten 1 mucinex, and have been coughing for an hour straight in a stretcher in the hallway. My mother was fine before she went into the hospital joyful loving and caring she, shortly after arriving to Ochsner and receiving a colonostice exam for liver issues she passed away with the same symptoms of the exam. She told me and my father she was very dizzy, tired, and they her stomach hurt so bad and that she needed to use the bathroom she could barely get up shortly later on that night she passed away internal bleeding. After a colonoscopy, some common symptoms you might experience include: 1. **Gas and Bloating**: From the air introduced into your colon during the procedure. 2. **Mild Cramping**: Similar to period or gas pains. 3. **Feeling of Fullness**: Due to the air used in the procedure. 4. **Light Bleeding**: Especially if a biopsy was taken or a polyp was removed. This should be minimal and stop on its own. If you experience any of the following symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately: 1. **Severe Abdominal Pain**: This could indicate a serious issue. 2. **Heavy or Continuous Bleeding**: More than a small amount of blood in your stool. 3. **Fever**: Especially if it occurs after the procedure. 4. **Dizziness or Weakness**: These could indicate internal bleeding or another complication. Gastroenterology is awful. We were transferred from another hospital who diagnosed correctly, but did not have the skills or equipment to treat. Stayed at Ochsner on Jeff Hwy for a week before gastro attempted a procedure. Didn't meet the doctor until that day. The residents relay all info. Doctor said no signs of infection when he looked and sent us home. Guess the iv antibiotics knocked it back for a little while. Back via er 2 months later with an abdominal abscess I'm sure was present before. The gastro doctors operate as a team, but they don't communicate with patients or family. Guess we aren't on the team? Residents are your sole source of info. You don't meet the surgeons until minutes before surgery, and you are lucky if he sees you after that. No communication of short or long term plans. Promises to call and schedule follow-ups that never happen. I had so much respect for Ochsner before this year, but something has changed. Prior to this year I've never had surgery. In 2022 I've had to under twice, so this review is based on a comparison of surgery proceedings at the main campus vs my experience at Crescent City Surgical in March. Intake was a full two hours, I was intubated but I think they really manhandled my throat. It's more sore than the last time, probably with a scratch somewhere as I hacked up some tell tale mucous. I also feel I have been over anesthetized and to top it off, no one bothered to clean my face either as I awoke with adhesive residue on my lips, cheek, chin and near my eyes. My mother has been in the hospital after a near death experience and does need to be sent to a nursing home. Her case worker, Janelle, got her placed in the wrong nursing home of our preferences which is far for any of her family to travel to and now has an attitude because we have not been able to assemble the paperwork in time for our mother to leave immediately. My mother is still sick - she is throwing up and has constant diarrhea. The nurses have begin to be incredibly rude even going as far as hanging up on the family when we call to get her help. This is beyond unkind to yet another elderly person of color who seem to be the folks treated the worst at Ochsner . Ochsner has cornered the Healthcare Industry and people are forced to be seen in their facilities. All they do is heard people like cattle and move them from one appointment to another w/o diagnosis and without a fix for your condition. The doctors are so young, some haven't been actually practicing in their specialty for more than 2 years. How do you expect a cure for your condition from someone reading from a book and has very limited experience. We had a condition and the doctor ordered a daily regimen of 81mg aspirin. My grandma could've told me that for free. We ended up a few years later with the same condition and now more medication and still no diagnosis of why this continues to happen. If we didn't start out with Ochsner and been for years, I'd immediately switch to another Organization and I'm still thinking of doing so. read more

They killed my aunt. She came in with a kidney issue. Nobody kept track of her eating. Started tube feeding after 3 weeks of this. She died the next day. They drew so much blood she needed a transfusion. They gave her medication with opposing mechanisms. Nurses and doctors here don't communicate. Please save yourself and your loved ones. The bigness of the hospital & clinic makes the experience of hospital visits and clinic visits intimidating but the customer service of staff & employees makes visits doable. Every time I visited friends this week my watch recorded miles but what really helped was valet parking and staff members who were willing to help navigate the distances. A very long time ago there were lines painted on the floors and we could follow the red line or follow the blue line. They don't have lines any longer but they do have helpful staff to lead or tell you where you need to go. Beautiful facility but it's the human beings who are friendly and experts in care who make Ochsner Medical Center successful in healing. The care is phenomenal. Kudos for hiring above & beyond doctors, nurses, & other staff (I. E. Ward Secretary on 9th floor). Also, has safe, clean, comfortable environment. Transferred to this place by my Laurel Ms hospital into intensive care unit. The nurses and staff in I C U we're very nice and attentive to our needs. Especially Robert the evening nurse on 2/14/2020. But we were transferred from ICU to 6th floor rm 623 which was filthy the bathroom floor was wet from a plumbing leak the floor was so moldy it was unbelievable that this is a hospital room the toilet had mildew growing in it. The toilet seat was dirty and stained. The floor in the bed area was actually sticky and so dirty. Really there health Dept should go in and shut the place down until they clean it up. My 91 year old dad was admitted Apri 2024, with pneumonia, uncharacteristically high sugar levels and an e coli infection in his urinary tract. His care team was incredible. They investigated, discovered the root of the problem, found the proper diagnosis and necessary treatment plan.THEN, he was admitted February 19th of this year, with virtually identical conditions and the addition of an injured knee. This stay was the polar opposite! He was discharged to a skilled nursing facility for physical rehab on an injured knee! Despite multiple conversations with his doctor, Nicole Nammour, M.D, she refused to order an MRI, stating that she would, "Hate to put him through such an expensive test if there was nothing wrong, and that if he needed one, it would be referred as an outpatient procedure. Despite my efforts to express my concerns that he would not be be outpatient, but an inpatient at a REHAB facility wanting him to perform rehab on an injured knee, she insisted that it was not medically indicated. Furthermore, his blood sugar levels were still uncharacteristically high and there was no evidence that his infection was under control at the time of discharge. I was told, and I quote, "Well we just can't keep him here for that." Last April he was discharged AFTER those conditions had been brought under control and was, in fact, sent home with IV antibiotics to be administered by me. read more

I have been in Ochsner main campus Emergency at least 5 times over the course of 2 months. My mom fell twice broke arm, then her hip. My friend got Covid Pneumonia, i have Covid blood clots in lungs can't breathe well. To have to battle with the male screeners whom i suspect are the security guards. They are rude, and combative and typical power hungry idiot's. I went because my mom was on her way by ambulance 5:15 pm Mon. 1/18 so i was going to regustration and he wouldnt let me in. Didnt even care i couldnt breathe made me stand in the cold. Did not want to hear anything i tried to say. No compassion, just a power hungry guard who gets off telling people what to do.
