Lexington Playcare Center - LPC's Nature Inspired Playground

*UPDATE 2026-06-04* : Don't trust the positive comments! Right after my initial negative comment,…read morean updated positive comment appeared. There hadn't been a comment for years! That doesn't look like pure coincidence to me at all. A truly safe and well-managed daycare should address parents' safety and communication concerns directly, rather than PR management. ORIGINAL COMMENT: Our experience at LPC was disappointing, especially considering the cost. What concerned us most was the lack of transparency and communication when issues arose. Over a relatively short period of time, our child came home with multiple injuries, and we often felt we were not getting clear explanations about what had happened. Some incidents were not documented, and attempts to discuss our concerns did not lead to productive conversations. We also noticed a level of stress and low morale among staff that made us uncomfortable. Every family has to make their own decision, but based on our experience, we would not choose this center again. Not recommended at all.

LPC has truly become part of our family (so much so that we return for alumni events each year!!). The staff, including the new director Karen, are doing a wonderful job creating a play-based environment where children are encouraged to be curious, imaginative, and kind. Both of our children thrived at LPC. They developed confidence, independence, curiosity, and meaningful friendships in an environment where they felt safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. As parents, there is nothing more reassuring than this. Highly recommend!!

Waverley Square Daycare is amazing! My son has been enrolled since he was 8 months old; currently…read morehe is in Pre-K. In all that time, I feel that he has been very well cared for and liked (even loved) by his teachers. Yes, this place has great hours, and there are tons of daily activities for kids, but it's the nurturing staff and teachers that makes this place amazing. I know my son is in good hands, and he genuinely loves going to his daycare.

Our family had such a good experience with Waverley Square Daycare, I can't recommend it enough!…read moreBoth of my children attended this program as soon as we moved in Lexington. My Pre-K son, blossomed literally. The ratio student/teacher is low, the academic side is taught in a sensory way. Children learn at play. Every children is considered as a special person, they learn how to manage their emotions and how to interact with others. My daughter spent 3 years from toddler to Pre-K. Waverley Square was a second home, teachers were so kind that she even asked to go to school on week-ends and vacation. When entering into Kindergarten, she was emotionally and socially ready for this big jump. The little friends she met there, are still very important for her she is very connected with them even if they don't attend the same school. More than leading a classroom or a day care, the staff organizes many events through the year : Halloween, St Valentine's day, sports support (Go Red Soks! Go Patriots! Go!), St Patrick's Day, Dr Seuss' week, Mother's Day,.... As a parent, I felt as belonging to a great festive community!! I feel very grateful to Monoshini and her team for everything they have done for our children and our family.

We enrolled our 3-year-old son, in the Stage 1 swimming class at YMCA Waltham and unfortunately had…read morea very concerning experience. From the start, the coaching approach by the main instructor was not supportive of his emotional and developmental needs. He was often overlooked, and when he cried or became upset, the responses lacked empathy and patience. At times, he even received judgmental looks instead of reassurance. One incident that really upset us was when he accidentally fell into the pool during class, and the coach at the time showed little attentiveness or constructive feedback afterward. Ignoring a young child when he is struggling only adds to their fear, and it was disheartening to witness. Thankfully, on the second day, Coach Max stepped in and completely changed our son's experience. His patience, kindness, and understanding helped him feel safer and more confident. Coach Max showed exactly the level of care and empathy that we believe is essential when working with young children. We are truly grateful for his support and would love to recognize him further for his outstanding efforts. We hope YMCA Waltham takes this feedback seriously and ensures more thoughtful, inclusive coaching for all children.

Ok, 3rd update on this place---the sauna issue is FINALLY no more, as the heat-draining ventilation…read moreout-fan has either broken down or been permanently disabled...thank da Lawd!!! NOW this sauna is finally able to reach a decently hot temperature without requiring some bothersome intervention (e.g. applying a wet paper towel or plastic piece to block the useless fan). It's not QUITE as hot as the Cambridge Y's sauna, but I'll take it. Otherwise, the rest of the place is great. They keep improving things. The second strength area, more of a functional fitness room, has now increased in size by at least 1/3, with an astro-turfed area for a sled, plyo boxes, etc. My only gripe is that there needs to be more weight plates in a separate plate stand just for the new astro-turf area because people often steal the rubber bumper plates that are supposed to be used for deadlifting at the side squat/deadlift station. YMCA staff while plentiful (you often see them sitting on their backsides in the office on the way into this weight room) are completely lazy/useless in terms of putting the weights back in their proper places, waiting until closing time to do it. More watchful management here would be helpful, because they seem to be very well funded and somewhat overstaffed actually. Oh, and it would be nice if there were a few more kettlebells---they top out at 36kg (wish they went up to 44kg) and are missing the key 24kg pair. Awesome thing about this Y is its relatively decent closing times: 10pm Mon-Thu, 8pm Fridays, and 6pm weekends.
