Walking down Lexington looking for clothes was proving unsuccessful until I found Minx. And I instantly knew that I was in love with this cute boutique!! I was in Virtue right before this and for some reason everything in there felt young and trendy. Minx was, for me, a step up with a nice mix of dressy, casual, work style, and whimsical pieces. And the ladies that work here are awesome--not snobby or pushy--there if you need their great advice on putting outfits together. I found a dress I adored and they unfortunately didn't carry my size so the gal wrote the brand name and style for me so I could find it later online. That was cool! I was also really grateful to her because I didn't realize that the curtain on my dressing room had slightly come open and she came over and helped me close it. Oops! I ended up buying a gorgeous and simple blouse for work from the brand Lush. Lush is one of my favorite labels so I was psyched about that. The prices seemed to vary a lot--some of the pieces I found were very reasonable while others were very pricy. The store also has good layout and fend shui--I like how there are individual racks positioned all throughout the store--for some reason it's just a better and peaceful shopping experience as you don't have the pressure of seeing everything all at once--just different sections that you can focus on one at a time. Hands down best local women's clothing boutique in Asheville! As you walk in you are instantly greeted by one of the smiling, beautiful Minx girls who are extremely helpful! The customer service is stupid awesome and they hardly have any turn over so the girls usually remember who you are and are so good at picking out things for you. The location is right downtown and perfect for whether you need a dress for a special event, a good pair of jeans, or just a casual t-shirt. It can be a little pricey sometimes but it's worth it. They also have sales all the time (not to mention the half off everything in the store day after christmas sale, cha ching). Seriously, you will love it! read more

Minx was the best women's clothing boutique we visited in downtown Asheville. It was nice to find a store with a modern take on retro, as well as offer other fashionable selections. Minx was also a breath of fresh air after visiting too many boutiques that seemed to cater to what I call, the stereotypical"aging, liberal arts-teaching, long-haired lady professor swathed in scarves, chunky jewelry, and shapeless neutral linens" type. My one small criticism is that the store employees seemed to take the modern, youthful mode a little too far. When my mom and I arrived, we witnessed store employees fawning over a mid-20-something, oohing and ahhing over her fitting room modeling, and giving her fashion tips. My mom received no assistance, just a pointed finger to the sales rack and dressing room, and was ignored when she came out to show off what she found (while the rest of the shop was empty of remaining customers). I hope it was a bit of mistaken oversight. We all should be encouraging our aging ladies/moms to visit Minx...no more shapeless linens and figure-hiding dresses! read more

Birthday weekend in Asheville....visiting from out of town...bought a lot of stuff at Minx yesterday before they closed. Came back today because changed my mind on a pair of sandals. They refused to return them...because they can never tell if their shoes have been worn because of their concrete floors. It's literally 40 degrees outside so there is no way I had worn summer sandals...could we please use some common sense ladies? Pretty sad they will sell you shoes in a condition they don't think good enough to take back...see pic that clearly shows the only wear is from Minx concrete floors and they KNOW this! As a gentleman, I must say that this place is top-notch. If you plan on bringing your significant other here, no worries for us guys. There is a huge red couch ready for you to sit on while your lady shops. Huge thanks to management who came up with this idea because you know how long it takes for ladies to shop! The staff here were extremely friendly. If there is a dress that is on display, they are more than welcoming to strip off the clothes from the display and have you try them on. I've done my fair share of shopping - both in life and in downtown Asheville. Because of my "experience," I can frankly say that Minx has some of the nicest of the following: varied selection, employees, store set up and overall vibe. Plus, there's a solid space in the middle in the stores for any dudes to congregate and grab a seat in a man chair. Price points vary significantly here from a $30 top to the rare (but extraordinary) $500 coat. Some brands I spied include Red Engine, Seychelles, Eva Franco, French Connection, Ark & Co., Frye, and Spanx. I was particularly impressed with the number of items less than $100! It was also nice to see a fun array of jewels from Saraswati and Liz Larios - both offering pretty baubles at moderate prices. Asheville definitely has some interesting boutique shopping but Minx takes the cake for me. It's a definite must stop next time I'm in the area! read more

I hate shopping, but Minx makes it painless, pleasant even. The space is clean, bright and airy, featuring only a choice selection of exceptional clothes for women. They carry just enough variety to offer a range of styles without overwhelming or distracting the shopper. The prices are not distracting or overwhelming either. The customer service is perfect - they always greet me kindly and subtly make it known they are there to help, but never ever apply any pressure or make unwanted wheedling commentary. When you pass this place in a row of nice high street shopsies you might think nice stuff, but honestly customer service is lousy, fantastically arrogant and if I am not mistaken, somewhat 'judgmental' ?? One lady indeed found it appropriate to engage in dispute with me about fashion preferences, funny, but then of course I don't accommodate that with leaving my money in this shop. Asheville has a lot of very nice and very affordable stores compared to other places, and for that reason most stores go out of their way to accommodate their customers, ensure that they have a great experience and perhaps: even come back! This store seems to have different approach. Of course this is a free country in the sense you can behave as you wish in this case, but personally I prefer people with a more positive attitude in general, for sure if it's a shop. Sometimes this is the case with stores, I suggest a good solution to the problem would be: write a list with what exactly you want from your ideal customers and post it upfront, so only those people who find that agreeable will even bother going inside and you don't have to bother with people you feel are "inappropriate" for whatever reason. Minx retail clerks have perfected the skill of offering the pinnacle boutique experience to shoppers; I tell my friends that going to minx is like going to play dress up with a friend...but a friend with impeccable taste. I've never felt that the clerks there were trying to up-sell me. Rather, I felt that they were genuinely having fun enjoying helping me to put together the most flattering and fun outfit imaginable. Perhaps Minx was lucky on the hiring end. Or perhaps they have a strong work ethic and culture. Regardless, it's an amazing boutique experience. It's why I shop boutiques in the first place - to feel like the necessary engagement with consumerism is at least somewhat localized and life enhancing. And one more thing...the clothes!!! Cute dresses and unique styles - a little pricey. A shame about the apathetic customer service - I was not greeted once despite wandering the store for over 20 minutes. I even perused the jewelry counter while an employee stood directly behind it, and she didn't offer help whatsoever or even a "hi." I am usually annoyed by overly enthused retail employees, but this experience was downright cold. I find this interesting because their website is all about their values and how important they consider their customers. Too bad, because I had money to burn and was interested in several items. I love this store so much! The merchandise is so cute and they have great sales. What's even better than the clothes is the customer service. Every time I walk in I'm greeted with a smile and a hello! They aren't too pushy about anything (which I hate at most boutiques). Cute clothes and accessories, this boutique carries quality lines at reasonable price points. Got a really cute tweed herringbone trench-style dress by Tulle, some Cheap Monday jeans (on sale!!), and locally-handmade earrings carved from reclaimed Dogwood from a tree that fell in the artists' yard.. and getting the story that went along with the earrings was free ;) The sales ladies are very helpful and friendly. They also included a reusable shopping tote that will get you a 10% discount on return visits. read more

Went down to Asheville last year to check it out as a possible relocation spot. I was blissed out to discover Minx, a cute boutique chock full of girly goodness and on par with Anthropologie and Nordstrom, but with all the intimacy and flair you'd expect from an independent boutique. Lines I remember include Kenzie, Kersh, Tulle, Frye, Sweet Pea and Virtue, a clothing company located right next door that handmakes tees and bags. I grabbed a Kenzie dress and a Virtue tee. I have an eternal crush on Minx. There is truly something for everyone here--they have pieces for $20 and $200, funky patterns and simple chic pieces. They have awesome sales too, so if you like French Connection but are living that poor life, you can get lucky. Their salespeople are amazing and always hit the nail on the head when I come in looking for a specific item/style (they're also just really genuine and friendly ladies!). This is literally the first shopping review I have EVER written. I had the nicest experience at this store yesterday. I actually wondered in on my way to a store a few doors down. The sales person who helped me (still kicking myself for not getting her name - sweet petite woman with pinkish hair) catered to my indecisive shopping needs for over an hour. She even ran quarters out to my car's meter so I could keep trying on clothes. Their prices range quite a bit but she routinely brought me lower priced items in my price range, including jewelry to go with my outfits that was on sale. I really had the best experience. I spent the first day of my trip to Asheville shopping and was told I had to go to Minx. I bought a pair of earrings, which broke within 12 hours. When I went to return them the saleswoman appeared shock that I paid $42 dollars for them..."these were $42!?" I found it curious that she didn't know her own merchandise. When I told her I was an out of towner and did not see anything else there I liked (yesterday) she said they never give cash back and my only 2 options were store credit or to pick something else. This policy makes sense if I had just changed my mind, deciided it did not fit right, etc. However, I think an exception to the rule is to back your merchandise that broke overnight. Especially since I paid almost $50 for it. I then picked a ring for $28, which I don't want, to leave me with a $7ish difference and she still hesitated to give me the cash back. The experience was not great. I was not impressed with the customer service or the lack of humiliation for selling a non-quality product at such a high price. I dislike stores that do not work with their clientele to improve their experience and would not rec. this store - especially anyone from out of town. read more

Loved this boutique on Lexington. I bought two dresses each was under $40 and have worn both of them numerous times already with many compliments on each one. The young lady working the store was very helpful and I loved how the store was set up by color. There was high end clothing there too and just overall a really great selection. You might get "pretty womaned." I don't like leaving bad reviews. A lot of the time I roll my eyes at bad reviews of places. But something happened that I definitely believe is worthy of one. I'm gonna start off with the fact that I really like the store itself. The clothes and shoes are really cute, and the upstairs is a wonderland of accessories, toiletries, housewares. The only thing I dislike is that some of the employees seem to be really judgemental. I'm pretty much ignored every time I come in, while they greet and are very helpful to other customers. Like, what the heck, Minx? It doesn't make me feel comfortable here at all. I suspect it may be because for whatever reason they don't think I look like I can afford their clothes. Sure, I'm young and I'm not always dressed to the nines. I work very hard with multiple jobs so I can afford nice things. Well, the one time I actually sought out an employee and asked for help it was a very awkward experience. I was nearly in tears when I left. I asked the price of something in the window and her response was "Well, that's one of our higher priced items." It was very dismissive and condescending. Also, it wasn't even one of the "higher priced" items, they have things that are upwards of 400$, this was nowhere near that. So, clearly she thought I couldn't afford to shop there and was just wasting her time. I decided to drop the fact that I had a gift card to see if that might change her mind and she started going off on how you might buy things you wouldn't normally when you have a gift card. What? I might be crazy but I feel like that paired with her attitude from before was so weird and snobby. After that her whole attitude towards me changed and was suddenly trying to be helpful. That made me feel even worse and I just had to leave, started crying right after I left. Came back intending to ask to speak with a manager but I chickened out, spent what i had on the gift card and left. I'd like to continue shopping here but not if the employees are gonna make me feel bad about myself. read more

Minx Boutique is an Asheville landmark. I usually hate shopping for clothes but I love shopping at Minx. It's hands down my favorite shop in Asheville and I've been going there for years. Katherin is always so nice to help me. She is one of the main reasons I shop there because she offers suggestions and helps me find the right outfits but never pressures me into buying anything. Minx has great dresses, shoes, bags, and accessories. It's a small boutique that can be your one stop shop for the perfect outfit. They mix in designer label clothes with very unique locally made jewelry. The best part is the helpful staff who immediately start you a dressing room and even make some additional selections for you. I really appreciated the extra help, and ended up leaving with the dress the salesperson selected for me. She took the time to help me assess all the options and I left very happy with my decision. I have been going to Minx for at least 8 years now and love the store and the staff, some of whom have been there for as long as I've been going. The wide range of prices is great and I can always find something that feels unique. Some of my favorite pieces are a flowy cardigan/wrap by ReneeC that I've almost worn to death, a couple blouses by Fun2Fun and one by ReneeC I wear for work, two miniskirts that I've dressed up/down for years now, and a unique necklace by Boe that I get complimented on every time I wear it. The store itself holds a lot of clothes and its racks are organized by color which I've always loved. The staff gives great feedback on how to wear/style things and will bring you other selections to try once you tell them what you're looking for. It's a great place to find a dress for a special occasion, but I've also found great pieces for work/play as I wrote above. They also added a gift shop upstairs fairly recently. I always look forward to going to Minx and just think they are the best in the town for selection and their friendly staff! read more

I was in town for a ladies' weekend (we're from Boston), and I'm really glad one of our servers at a restaurant tipped us off to Minx. Aside from the perfect boutique name, this place has an adorable mix of clothes and jewelry at reasonable, non-boutique prices! I bought the cutest top for $35. Sure, there were hundreds-dollar dresses too, but even budget-conscious folk can take something special home, so props for that. It's a delightful store.
