They did not provide a clear treatment plan and when I requested it in an email, I simply received a phone call from the receptionist. We were charged up front for services and when Dr Duenas finally noticed 11 teeth that needed to be removed first he went ahead and made the impressions anyway. I have requested a refund for $830 and they have been gaslighting me for two weeks. There is poor communication, sloppy assessments of the work that they are quoting and requesting payment for. They have verbally changed the course of the treatment three times but only verbally never in writing as I finally requested. I just don't recommend them. This review is more so to provide feedback to upper management and hopefully improve on preventing minor mistakes that could be avoided. We had a situation today where my fiancés appointment would not be covered by his insurance by a couple days but was scheduled and not informed. I suggest if there is a blast of confirmation texts being sent out/ courtesy calls a week prior, multiple parties should double check to see if a patient is due. The treatment coordinator was professional and offered to accommodate a late appointment since he had taken off work today. the office was not able to do courtesy X-rays or an exam. I would appreciate whoever is overlooking this office would give me a call and re assure me this mistake won't happen again, since I believe we are not the only ones that has gone through this. read more

I haven't been to a dentist in many years since I've always been terrified and have not have the best experiences since I was a kid. I've had many dentists in the past, but I've never had a pleasant experience. After years of avoiding of the dentist, I knew it was time I had to go to see a dentist since I cracked a molar. I was referred to Dr. Duenes by my fiancé and my cousin who have been his patients since they were kids. The receptionist, Maribel, has been very sweet and super helpful with scheduling my calls and handling my insurance! I've met both Jose Duenes and Angela Duenes and made sure I was taken cared of, they educated me about my oral health, while being so gentle, kind, and patient which helped my anxiety! When I had to get my fillings/cavities fixed, Dr. Duenes was the best as I did not feel pain from the needle to numb my mouth (getting numb always hurt and I would always feel the needle from last dentists, but not from Dr. Duenes). I was pleasantly surprised afterwards and I actually don't feel scared of going to the dentist anymore! I went a while back , he told me I needed a root canal but proceeded to just fill the tooth , eventually the tooth chipped , I went to a different dentist office and said who ever did my fills just covered up the fact that I needed a root canal , he doesn't do a very good job , rushed also .! read more

The staff is great but the dentist is not and it's bcuz of my insurance if I'm paying for a lower insurance is bcuz that's all I can afford. I have never had such a terrible experience with a dentist in my life. I had a simple procedure appointment with Dr. Jose Duenas, for a deep cleaning and filling. Disappointed that the filling was not to be done after all and they did not let me know in advance. The doctor started with Novocaine injection on my right upper side. Then he proceeded to inject another one on the same side, I started to have a strange sensation going all the way up to my head, I let him know, but so far ok. When he started to inject on my left side I felt pain and I made a moan...strangely Dr. Duenas just put the syringe down, took off his gloves and simply told me " You can go now"...What?? he said that he could not continue since I felt pain, " I cannot do this, you can just go"...what he said. I could not believe it. What "real doctor" does and say such thing? Letting a patient go because he couldn't handle it . With Novocaine in my already numbed mouth I got up and left. I made a complain with my insurance, also because they told me at the office the irrigation was not covered and I had to pay $60. for it, unless I just wanted the regular water irrigation, but my insurance told me it was all included, antibiotic irrigation after the procedure. Not honest at all. I would not recommend it. The doctor has no manners, very detached and cold, he is a dentist, but not a doctor, which makes a huge difference. read more

Dr. Duenas and his team are truly amazing! I had a terrible toothache that caused the whole left side of my face to swell up. Since it was a Saturday, midst COVID-19 closures/stay at home orders, and I hadn't established regular dentist, I was in a total bind and in a ton of pain. I called dozens of dentists and most of them couldn't see me for an emergency appointment for days. Then, right before I was about to give up, I called Mira Costa Dental. After hearing what was going on, they made it a priority to get me in that day. During the appointment, they went the extra mile to be gentle around the area I was feeling pain while still making it possible to get the x rays needed to assess my teeth. The pain I was feeling was associated with an infection caused by a wisdom tooth and after being in so much pain, I was ready to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed to avoid going through the same thing again. Dr. Duenas referred me to a specialist for the extraction. Him and his team quickly sent the X-Rays to the specialist, who then called me over the weekend to schedule my consultation and surgery. Dr. Duenas also made sure I had antibiotics and pain medicine prescribed in the mean time so I wouldn't be in so much pain. I had my extraction just three days later (could have been two, but I had work to wrap up so I couldn't take Monday off) and it was a very positive experience. I'm so thankful for Dr. Duenas and his team for being there for me and look forward to going to them for all my dental needs (hopefully no more painful ones)! when I was going in for a denture fix , simple procedure, he wanted to do a complete exam. i was ok with that, , in doing so , they were rough on my gums,and actually nicking me enough to bleed. no big deal but it got infected to the point I couldn't wear my dentures, if I had to . my gums infected by the end of the day. fast. i can only assume the tools were dirty.not to mention they lost my dentures. . good luck to you if you go there. lee read more

Everyone here is so sweet and kind. The environment itself is very tranquil. I've had some pretty bad experiences with past dentists. Dr. Dueñes comes nowhere near that. I went to this dentist in March 2020 and had temporary cement put in a molar to keep the nerve from being exposed. Went back to the same dentist a month later and the dentist told me that they didnt put in the temporary cement! There was nothing noted on my chart. I showed them the original receipt from my checkbook, but they said they never did. I now know why their parking lot is always empty. read more

I just wanted to update this rating from 5 years ago - I am still a patient of Dr. Duenes, and I wanted to mention that the office manager, Yesenia, has been there since before I started as a patient back in 2004! They are so honest, they NEVER upsell, and extremely patient with all of my questions. Dr. Duenes always refers out any special procedures to specialists, which is a really good sign for a general dentist. He has referred me out for two root canals and an extraction, and I have been very pleased with the specialists in his network. I can't think of anything negative to say - I am very grateful I found them randomly 13 years ago, and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else! read more

I have been coming here for the past few years and have gotten some serious work done. The staff are always friendly and greet everyone with a huge smile. This is a small family owned business which to me makes it that much better of an experience than a larger more corporate dental office. Mira Costa dental is very affordable and are always willing to help people out with a reasonable payment plan, Now since it is a family owned business there is only one Dr here who does the work so he does go from patient to patient at times while your Novocaine kicks in, which could keep you here a bit longer but I personally don't mind it much. I've been going to Dr. Duenes since 2012 and love his work and his staff. I needed a lot of work done and work corrected since they did some bad jobs in T.j and Gentle Dental. He took care of all my teeth and for getting so much work done the price was pretty good. He is very gentle and you can't even feel the needle when he puts the anesthesia in your gums! I have not had any problems and it is a pleasure to come to this office. His front staff is very friendly and explain everything to you in regards to your treatment plan and insurance. We love this place! Dr. Duenes is the most light handed dentist I've had in my life time. Painless dentistry!!! I didn't even feel the needle when he had to numb mouth! After my own personal experience at his office, I actually pulled my kids from their pediatric dentist because these guys are just way better! Went in on the recommendation of a former employee. Found out I needed a root canal. Scheduled appointment and went it for procedure and temporary crown. I've never had a root canal so I didn't know what to expect but I must say that it was a breeze!! The doctor explained the procedure, the hygienist was attentive, and the whole thing was fine. Even though I was there for several hours, due to the different procedures, I was always made to feel comfortable. Everyone there is so friendly and caring. Let's just say this is the best dentist in town !! from the minute you walk in to the minute you see the dentist this office is the real deal! I had actually not been to the dentist in quite a while and came across this office through a referral from my friends mom . I was a bit nervous as I am a very anxious person and dental offices are the last place I wanna be ! My first visit was very easy and overall just gave me that peace of mind that I was in great hands ! My next two visits went very well as I needed to get a deep cleaning! When I had both cleanings the dentist always made sure I was ok and made me as comfortable as possible! Even the dental assistants were very lovely and explained everything to me and often asked how I was doing since they knew I was nervous ! Because I don't have dental insurance they worked out a plan for me which was not bad at all considering I had quite some things I had to get done! The dentist was also kind enough to refer me to and orthodontist since I do have braces in order to either remove or continue my treatment!! Overall my experience with them was a 10 plus never been to such an awesome office! I will definitely continue to come to this office as long as I am in the area!
