I read Surf Smiles (SS) reviews and was impressed and decided to make a new client appointment for an exam and cleaning on their website. We had a minor hiccup on the online scheduling, but Dr. Warner and her staff responded immediately and fixed the issue. SS scheduled me for an appointment the next day. When you arrive there is plenty of parking, you are greeted by friendly staff who are professional and do an exceptionally well job in making you comfortable and informed of their procedures. My personal dental hygiene is on the top of my health list. The hygienist remarked that I made her job easier after only 30 minutes to clean my teeth. I requested another 9 month appointement. I only wanted a cleaning and agreed to the $160.00. I am retired and the day of my appt. someone called saying I must have X-rays too. Of course that would bring the cost to over $200. It was understood, when the appt was made months ago, I didn't want X-rays. (money grab). Very Expensive compared to other DDS in O'side. Very disappointed. read more

When I first went in, I was super nervous. The front desk was very welcoming . April took care of me. She was very friendly when I first sat down. I was able to get an appointment within 2 weeks of calling and the quality of care I received was excellent. Update - The dentist gave us a call and apologized for the bad experience. Offered a re-do and I declined, we will try our luck elsewhere. At the end of the day all they can do is apologize and hopefully do better with the next little ones that come through their chair. I have no identifying information in my post as to who my daughter is but he remembered who we were which tells me he remembers the experience too and the apology was sincere. Clean, probably fine for adults. but I took my 1.5 year old here for first dentist visit based on a few recommendations that this is a good place for littles. I walked in at 8:15 and was immediately brought into a room. The dentist came in very rushing-ly and asked if I had any concerns, I said no and he instructed me to sit on the chair with her in my lap, her facing me. He sat knee to knee with me and had her lay back into his lap while I held her hands. He used his fingers to open her mouth and count her teeth. He then said everything looks good and did fluoride. My daughter is screaming the whole time and he says an occasional "good job" to her very monotone. He walked us to the front desk and they handed me a card with her next appt date filled out. We left... We were buckled and pulling out of the parking lot by 8:28. So we were there for a total of 8 minutes if this tells you how quick and careless the appointment felt. If they could have spent just a few extra minutes here and there even ACKNOWLEDGING that my daughter is a tiny human she would have been so much more comfortable. She would have willingly let him count teeth, brush etc if he had said hello to her or built even a tiny quick relationship with her, but that was not our experience. Never asked her name, said hi to her, literally didn't acknowledge her other than sticking his fingers in her mouth. Crazy! Super bummed, will not be coming back. read more

We recently moved to Oceanside, and the process of getting our teeth cleaned at a new dentistry was so easy with Surf Smiles. All the paperwork was available online to fill out and sign so that we could come in for our first appointment and be seen right away. From the X-rays to cleaning, everything took less than 45 minutes and my husband and I were able to take turns getting our teeth cleaned back to back with both our girls in the waiting room! As a mom of two young ones, I appreciated their timeliness in seeing us. Will update my review once we bring our girls in for their own cleaning! Yes, "as good as it gets" and the other reviewers are spot on. New, clean facility, good location. We got to meet BOTH Dr Warners, Mark and Madeline, and their two sweet daughters last night, by surprise.. My son bit into a piece of candy in the car on our way to dinner and cracked a tooth :( he's not a crier so we figured this is probably urgent, I looked up the closest place right away and found Surf Smiles.. they're open til 9?! I called, Dr Warner answered and said we could bring him right in. Everyone was at ease in minutes of our emergency run there. She had one more patient to see that night, but got us in and sat my son right down. She and her husband really knew just how to handle my scared, teary 7year old.. really, what a team. They do take the time to get to know you --the patient that came in while we were there was greeted quickly by first name and warm smiles as well. When all was said and done (drop-in exam + xrays + consult), we definitely got our money's worth and were sad we didn't have the right coverage to be able to have his procedure done there, BUT they were kind enough to help us with a prescription to ease his pain in the meantime and refer us to someone they trusted nearby that they were close to and could help us asap. Really hope their plans to partner with the VA work out (Mark used to work on Pendeton) and glad we stumbled on this place. I was referred by my orthodontics office Dr. Allen and soooo glad I chose Surf Smiles. I requested to schedule a NP appt online and the very next day Tatiana called me and got me in. She helped every step of the way with insurance questions and although my insurance was out of network, I still chose to give Surf a try. Upon arriving, (wear a mask) my temperature was taken and I was called back within 5 mins? Taylor, was GREAT! She took my x-rays and was very gentle! She wasn't forcing the dang object in and out . She explained everything as she went. She also did a light cleaning and again she was great! Her personality was amazing and she just loved her job! So thank you!!! After that was done. Dr. Warner came in looked at my X-rays and explained what treatment I should be expecting before braces could be put on. He didn't require half of the other crap my other dentist had said I NEEDED to do to my teeth before I could even get braces put on. There wasn't no 6k quote of worth of work I needed to do. I like having my appointments first thing in the morning so I can get on with my work day. Dr Warner and the staff attend to you right away and get your cleaning done in less than an hour. They are not like my last Dentist Coast Dental, that would over book and have several people waiting in the lobby for 20 minutes. I have had both Dr. Madeline Warner and Dr. Mark Warner, who is a former Dental Officer in the Navy, do my cleanings this past year and they are very personable and gentle. They are also family friendly , so bring the kids. The office is clean and have plenty of parking. I like that it is not in a busy shopping center so you can get in and out easily. This was by far the best dental experience I've ever had in my life. Dr. Warner was amazing! My husband and I both came in for a cleaning and checkup, Dr. Warner was very welcoming and pleasant. I am the type of person who dreads going to the dentist because of past experiences. Before seeing Dr. Mark I had seen a previous dentist who made me feel extremely uncomfortable which led me to looking for a new dentist. What a wonderful dentist! This is a brand new, clean, beautiful office with all the newest tools. They are very knowledgeable about the military and they handled my insurance with no issues. I had a cavity filled today after having my teeth cleaned a few weeks before and I can tell you that she did very fast, expert work both times. Over the weekend I experienced what everyone's worst nightmare is.. a broken tooth. I was unaware of a cavity that had caused a lot of decay that resulted in a break. I knew that finding a dentist to treat me would be a difficult task because I am a cash patient (insurance doesn't kick in until March 1st). I was hesitant to even go because I knew I wouldn't be able to afford a crown etc with cash upfront, but convinced myself to go to one at least to see what it would take to fix my tooth. I called Surf Smiles on 2/10/20 at about noon.. and they were able to fit me in same day! I mention that I was a cash patient and they quoted me a reasonable 89$ for a visit and x-rays. As I showed up to my appointment, I quickly noticed the well put together office. It's a beautiful spot. I was greeted by Dr. Hoeg at the front desk promptly and was asked to wait to be called. Not more than 10 minuted later, I was called to the back by Dr. Mark Warner who stated I would be seeing Dr. Hoeg for my appointment, but he was in a meeting so he would be starting my visit. (I thought that was very courteous because most of the time you're kept waiting when something like that occurs) Dr. Mark Warner was very friendly and was quick to get my x-rays going. Dr. Hoeg came in shortly after and I was amazed by how nice he is!! Seriously just a genuinely nice individual. While I was getting my tooth looked at, Dr. Madeline Warner came in to introduce herself (seriously how nice is that?). I quickly realized that this practice is family run and they care about their patients as individuals. You're not just a number or price tag to this family! Dr. Hoeg continued to examine me and was very conservative in my treatment as he was trying to avoid a root canal (which I very much appreciate!!) I expressed to him that I am a cash pay patient and would be interested in a temporary solution to my tooth problem if need be until my insurance kicked in. I was blown away with his work ethic and compassion as he completely restored my tooth and was able to work with me on pricing. You literally can't even tell I had half of my tooth missing. (pictures listed as reference) Not only am I (and my whole family) a patient for life, but I am actually excited to return and work on my other dental issues.
