There is a medium-sized cheese plant -- Great Lakes Cheese -- just down the street. They used to have a factory store where you could buy direct, but now Freeway Grocery sells it instead. The price is a steal. The 4X Cheddar (the sharpest version they make) goes under the name "Adams Reserve" when sold elsewhere. I've seen little chunks of it for sale in gourmet stores in Boston and NYC for more money than what at Freeway gets you a big brick of no-nonsense, wrapped-in-plastic-wrap, tangy, crumbly deliciousness. Milder versions (3X, 2X, 1X, medium, mild) available too. If you like good cheese, fresh curds, and/or local products, this spot is a great, easy stop off the highway.

The produce is fantastic and is monitored by the amazing and friendly produce manager, George. The facility is clean; the employees are helpful. However, I stopped in yesterday to check it out. The store is very open and the shelving units are very low. The aisles are short and are on both sides of the store. There is a deli, bakery, fresh produce, and the frozen section tucked away in the back of the store. Nothing about the store really wowed me, it's a grocery store, nothing fancy. The store seems a little outdated in my opinion and it's not as bright and vibrant as others. They had the brand "taste of inspirations" which is a brand that Giant, a grocery store back home has that I shop at. At least I can say that I've been inside.

I know my Aunt especially loves this store for her canning needs and baking ingredients for the holiday season since everything comes in bulk but at very reasonable affordable prices. One time I found myself paying $10.99 for a quart of strawberries... don't do that. It's not heavily advertised, but they have an incredible sub shop here at the deli. The half subs are as big as a whole at Jreck's. The meat is high quality and the rolls are soft and tasty. I am going to go as far as saying this is the best sub shop in Watertown. Their meat (chicken breast, ground beef, etc.) is better than what I have found in most groceries stories. The produce is good and you can usually find what you need. They also have a cool assortment of dips and hummus and a tasty spicy tomato oil. Tops carries a good mix of big name brands and local products. You can park incredibly close to the store entrance. What an incredible little country store this is. It is run my the local Amish population and most…read moreeverything is hand made, hand baked or otherwise made by the Amish. The staff is incredibly friendly and actually wear traditional Amish clothing. The food selection of is amazing and meats and cheeses are like you are in France or Wisconsin. I bought so much stuff I might have to check a second bag to get home and it's worth every penny to me. This store is a long way off the beaten track and outside any city. If you ever find yourself out this way, make sure to check that little treasure out. They actually collect the maple syrup from the trees. The store is clean, bright and open. If I lived here, I'd be in this store weekly.
