We have found other Dentists in the area push unnecessary work. Here, they want to ensure you have a positive experience from check-in to check-out without hitting you up for work that isn't needed. They always ask me about my day and remember previous conversations from my last visit. They are always upfront with the costs prior to the consultation, and they provide an itemized invoice to let you know what is going on with your teeth/gums. Overall, Dr. Nyguen is very kind, gentle, and understanding; he truly cares about his patients. His office staff are always very professional, welcoming and friendly. Now with 2 crowns involved, I was told that would fix an issue where I would have striking pains from cold/hot temperatures but it didn't. They then said I would need either a root canal or my tooth has a fracture. They said they will call me within a week to notify me of the cost. Come appointment time, I never received a call. So I still went in for the appt to see what will happen. To my surprise, they just told me that I need a root canal and it will be $1,282 even with insurance. No insurance, they are charging a WHOPPING $4,004. I REPEAT $4,004 and yes this is for 1 tooth... I told them that I am not gonna be paying the $1,282, that seems VERY high for a root canal procedure even with insurance. The practice was very unprofessional to not even inform me of the cost when they had 1 week prior to my appt and they can't just dictate the procedure however they want and bill at the cost of whatever they choose. They then told me that there is a $100 cancellation fee because the person who came was a specialist. I did not sign any consent and I'll appeal it with my insurance. I then called my insurance and they said that the practice is charging a higher percentage than what they are normally supposed to. 80% is covered for a non major surgery in which a root canal isn't. So that is 20% co pay. Practice literally charge closer to 35%. This is a bad practice and unfair service. They milk clients/patients out of their money. What a scam and a fraud business. They just lost 2 clients because of their low class no integrity and disrespect to the people who are in need of dental service. Good riddence and I hope one day this business gets penalized for obnoxiously inflating rates that is deemed theft.

But at Hudson it is, after a bad experience this past year at another dental office I decided to read up on the reviews and do some research for this location. I was impressed and after today I can see why. I called last month and made an appointment they were able to schedule me for the following week Thursday but I ended up getting strep throat and had to cancel I was then rescheduled for April 29th, someone from their office was nice enough to send texts for spots that opened sooner but it didn't align with my schedule. But I got another text that did and we re scheduled for Monday April 20th,2026 at 11am, I filled out all my paperwork online and arrived 15 minutes early. I was greeted by a kind older woman at the front desk who checked me in and advised that I would be paying $20 for pictures of my teeth, I was grateful for how forward she was, I was called back at exactly 11, Michael did my X-rays and Jen was my dental hygienist and she was amazing!! I explained my concerns and she walked me through all that she was going to be doing, I felt very comfortable. She did an amazing job cleaning my teeth, let's just say it was badly needed. So Jen thank you for your patience. After the cleaning Dr.Hudson came in and took a look after hearing his recommendations I'm glad they aligned with what I was looking to do, which was first a deep clean then a referral for the oral surgeon to get my wisdom teeth extracted and the orthodontist later for Invisalign. I did a fluoride treatment on my teeth and Jen walked me to schedualing . There they had my price sheet already filled out after what the insurance covers, I was able to schedule my deep cleaning appointments, I'm grateful for their organization as well as not expecting all the money upfront, they break it up into payments and with the economy now that's amazing, paying for dental work shouldn't be a burden. I refused telling her that I get anxious coming to the dentist and then having to get my blood pressure taken makes it worse. She continued to tell me that it had to be done. Mind you I was just getting my teeth cleaned. Nothing more. I then told her ok get an arm cuff and a stethoscope and we can do it that way. But they don't have that. So she said she has to go talk to the dentist. She comes back and says they will not treat me without taking my blood pressure. I walked out and will not be returning. They are using a wildly inaccurate way to take blood pressure. If you are going to force patients to get their blood pressure taken then they need to have the appropriate equipment to do so. I'm also highly disappointed that the dentist not come speak to me about it. My husband and myself will not be returning and I will be sure to share my experience as much as I can so that others are not treated the way that I was.

So after years of happy interactions I was forced to find a different dentist who charges $99 for initial cleaning with Xrays and $99 follow up cleanings. I have no idea how they think $437 is remotely acceptable. I can only imagine if they feel it's okay to abuse existing patients in this way what kind of bogus inflated charges they are hitting the insurance company with. I'm sure practices like this are why we have a health care cost crisis in this country right now. Under NO circumstances would I ever recommend Montecito Dental to anyone ever again. They were problematic even before this last incident. When I had oral surgery, the surgeon told me they could put me under and it'd be covered by insurance. I trusted him and went ahead. Turned out it wasn't covered and it took me months if not almost a year to pay it off. Be careful of this office.
